I did not expect that SPICE!! Hahah, not for me but I promise others will love it!
Molly does not do weddings or class reunions. As someone who just skipped her 10 year high school reunion I felt this hahah. When her friends drag her to the 15 year reunion she’s sat next to her ex, Seth. Seth is a successful divorce attorney who has been trying desperately to find the one to help him get over Molly. At the reunion, their classmates are making bets on who will be together at their 20 year reunion and Molly and Seth make the list.
My problem was I didn’t love either main character. I loved the premise and was rooting for them but rolled my eyes constantly at the dialogue.
Divorce lawyer meets romance author meets second chance romance? This is MY cup of tea. From the start I LOVED Molly. I love her narrator, I love her sass, and I love how she is unapologetically herself.
I loved Seth as a character, but his audio narrator did grind my gears a little bit.
I loved the pacing, the plot of a high school reunion, the family drama and the very realistic problems that we thirty-something’s face.
I loved that our MCs were older, more experienced and so genuine.
I was definitely surprised to find out COVID made an appearance, but honestly I should start expecting that in newer books, shouldn’t I? 🤣
Overall I thought it was a great, quick summer read and I’ll be sure to be looking for more of her books in the future.
3.5 ✨
While I enjoyed the plot of this second-chance romance, I felt like the main character was very frustrating and hard to relate to.
Absolutely splendid. Amazing contemporary romance debut. I absolutely loved. The perfect summer read. Grumpy sunshine and friends to lovers. Love a good second chance romance reunion too!
I enjoyed this story about a VERY cynical rom-com writer who puts no trust in lasting love in real life. She reconnects with Seth, her high school boyfriend, @ their 15 year high school reunion. Some fun tropes in this one: second chance, a bet, grumpy/sunshine. Molly & Seth have great chemistry, & some really funny interactions through the years.
It’s an interesting twist that Seth is the more romantic, sensitive, idealistic of the two. It’s obvious early on that Molly has some serious stuff she has to work through. Definitely stemming from her jerk of a dad, & the consequences of her parents’ failed marriage. She really is a mess of feelings. She has no idea what she wants because she’s afraid to want it. Seth knows exactly what he wants, but is afraid he’ll never get it. My heart ached @ times for both of them as their lives & timing just can’t get right. I was also sometimes a bit mad @ one or both of them, & their brands of coping. Life can sure get messy (even for characters that are attractive & successful). I like that I honestly couldn’t guess how they’d ever get to happy in the end.
Another quick note: I like that COVID experiences & quarantine is mixed into some stories now. Adds another layer of relatable, for sure.
Thanks to the publisher for allowing me to read an advance copy via NetGalley. I’ll definitely watch for new titles from the author.

Talk about experiencing so many emotions during a book! I can honestly say I laughed, screamed, cried, and fell in love with these characters while reading! This was such a beautiful story that captures the love between two people stuck in a right person wrong time scenario over the span of five years.
I loved the chemistry between Molly and Seth. The irony in their characters alone is hilarious, Molly is a romcom screenwriter who doesn’t believe in love and Seth is a divorce attorney who is longing to find the love of his life. I found myself relating to both Molly and Seth during this story. Seth so desperately wants to find the love we all seek out while Molly avoids love as she knows from experience that sometimes that love doesn’t last. The biggest downside to me was the timeline felt very lengthy. Luckily, the author was able to make this lengthy timeline enjoyable by keeping the reader on their toes. These two overcame many obstacles but eventually made it to their well deserved happy ending! 🩷
Such a great summer read that I could not put down! ☀️ I can’t wait to read more from this author!!
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this e-ARC! I voluntarily read this book, and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Just Some Stupid Love Story by Katelyn Doyle is a phenomenal debut rom-com about a screenwriter who doesn't believe in love and a divorce attorney who does, they are forced together at their high school reunion fifteen years after their breakup!
In this exceptionally smart and hilarious romance… Doyle's writing is crisp and funny, the characters are fully engaging, and the story is delightful. The characters Molly and Seth are lovable but very humanly flawed.
I pretty much read this in one sitting.
Thank You NetGalley and Flatiron Books for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
I'm still absolutely giddy after reading this one! Ummm I am in love with Seth. His confidence and quirky personality are just so attractive. Also, the fact that he's a hopeless romantic just checks all my boxes. Molly, on the other hand, is just so hard to like with all her anxieties. I read this one very quickly and loved it! The audiobook was absolutely wonderful! Great narrators for each of the main characters!! Overall, I loved it!!
*Thank you partner @flatiron_books and @macmillan.audio for the #gifted e-galley and audiobook in exchange for an honest review.*
Just Some Stupid Love Story by Katelyn Doyle, is a wonderful, enjoyable story about two people destined to be together; or are they. Molly and Seth were high school sweethearts who broke up shortly after graduation. Molly completely shattered Seth's heart and they have both been in and out of relationships since. When they find themselves seated at the same table at their 15 year reunion, old feelings flare and emotions run high. Molly is a rom-com screenwriter; damaged from her parent’s divorce passionately believes that everyone does not have a soulmate. Seth is an incredibly successful divorce lawyer, quirky, family oriented and definitely believes that your soulmate is out there somewhere. While people watching at the reunion, they make a bet about who will be, or not be, together at their 20th reunion. What follows is the next five years of their lives as they explore different relationships as they try to fight the magnetism that pulls them together.
This dual POV story explores the growth of their relationship over the years, portraying realistic flaws in the characters. Molly's trauma from her parents' divorce and her reluctance to commit is interwoven with Seth's romanticized view of love and rushing into relationships; adding complexity and depth.
This would be a great beach read where you laugh out loud at times.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Just Some Stupid Love Story was a fun read; the will they or won't they keeps you guessing until the end. Does being able to predict the fate of others relationships make it any easier to know how to navigate your own? I think we can all agree, no! Commiserating through the back and forth of the main characters left a "can't put down" feel that made you want to see how it all unfolded, even if you had your suspicions.
Author did a great job of navigating the time, the pandemic, and not making it radiate in a depressing way.
Thank you to NetGalley for an e-arc to read, rate, and review.
This was good for a debut, but the characters felt one dimensional and the plot was lacking.
I think this book is a lot of fun. I did think the golden retriever nature of the male main character was a little strong at the beginning and not quite believable, but it did settle the farther I got into the book. I enjoyed the main characters, and I liked the concept of missed opportunities. I think the book was a touch too long. I would have preferred one missed opportunity fewer-I think the effect of the book would still have hit well that way. Overall I enjoyed it!

Thank you to NetGalley for proving me an eARC of this story. All opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed the beginning of the story. You immediately get a taste of the types of characters that Molly and Seth are going to be and I really liked the way that the story was set up. A great set up for a rom-com.
There were other elements of the story that I enjoyed. I really liked Seth I thought he was a really sweet MMC and it was easy to root for him. I enjoyed his arc and though he had things to work through you could see that he was putting in the work to better himself. I also liked the idea of both characters having baggage and them needing to both work together and work on themselves in order to be the best versions of themselves for each other.
As the story went on I think there were just some elements that were brought up that just ultimately were not for me. Personally the FMC was hard for me to connect with and empathize with. I also am personally not a fan of 3rd act breakups.
Like I said there were things I liked and things I didn’t about this story which lead me to this rating. Overall I may or may not recommend this story depending on what the person liked vs doesn’t like as a reader!
Emotionally Wrecking. Seth's love for Molly should be written about for years to come.
First of all Poor Seth, my main man Seth, he's gone through it.
Molly must be one of the most frustrating FMCs I've ever encountered, but if Seth loves her, I must too.
The premise alone should get you invested in this story, two high school sweethearts who see each other at their reunion and make a bet about couples around them including themselves.
What a roller coaster ride of emotions!
Synopsis: High school exes Molly and Seth continue to encounter each other over the years, but it is never the right place or time to rekindle their romance.
Thoughts: This is a well-written debut romcom. The story follows Molly and Seth as they bump into each other over the course of several years starting at their fifteenth high school reunion. I enjoyed that we get both POV's as it added a lot of depth to both characters. The banter, chemistry and spice were all there BUT I just never connected with Molly, the walking talking relationship red flag. While it was still enjoyable, I think it could have been a bit shorter.
Overall, though, an impressive debut that will have me keeping an eye out for this author's next book.
Read this if you like:
• second chance romance is high school sweethearts
• reverse grumpy sunshine takes place over several years

If there’s one thing I love, it’s a messy-as-hell second-chance romance with tons of wry banter. And y’all: Katelyn Doyle’s Just Some Stupid Love Story DELIVERS.
The book follows Molly Marks, a Hollywood screenwriter who doesn’t believe in love, though she writes romcoms and Seth Rubenstein, a divorce attorney who wholeheartedly believes in soulmates and is desperate to find his. They were high school sweethearts until she broke his heart, and when they see each other for the first time in 15 years at a reunion, they make bets about couples, including themselves, and have five years to see who wins.
As the story unfolds over the next five years, we experience the ups and downs of Molly’s and Seth’s lives, as well as the fates of the other couples in their bet. As the characters change and grow, this book will tug on your emotions, making you laugh uproariously before gut-punching you in surprising ways.
Molly is a character that is 100% going in my hall of fave FMCs, and one that I maybe over-identify with (writer, cynical, bad at feelings) but I loved her journey of learning to open up and see vulnerability as a kind of bravery. And Seth is the kind of sunshiney MMC that you can’t help but cheer on – and then swoon over when all of a sudden things start to heat up and a whole new side of him comes out.😏
I’m terrible at being effusive, but omg I loved this so much. SO MUCH. Like, it was a I-devoured-it-in-one-sitting-because-I-physically-could-not-stop-reading kind of situation.
And honestly? I won’t be surprised if this is my favorite contemporary romance of the year.
Just Some Stupid Love story NEEDS to be on your summer 2024 reading list!
Molly Marks, a rom-com screen writer and pessimist when it comes to love, runs into her high school ex, Seth Rubenstein, at their 15 year class reunion. Unlike Molly, Seth believes in the idea of soul mates and end game style love, even after he and Molly's rough and unexpected breakup and the end of high school. But he's determined to change her mind, so they make a bet. Who of the 5 couples they know will be together at the 20 year reunion? And will they be one of them?
Katelyn Doyle writes a wonderful plot that was unlike any romance I've read before. Her main and side character development was fantastic. What sets it apart from other romance books is the angst of the characters and their trials both together and apart. Doyle shows their relationship in the broader context of the pains of their past, their family and their friends. This book is not all roses and happy faces. It felt REAL. But it's also funny, witty, and has a HEA!
If Ali Hazelwood and Emily Henry are your vibe, then Just Some Stupid Love Story will be too. I read this in one day and it would be fantastic for your next pool day or beach vacation.
Molly and Seth were high school sweethearts until she broke his heart before he could get a chance to break hers. When they unexpectedly reunite at their 15 year high school reunion, they set off a series of connections over the coming years.
This one really wasn’t for me. Molly was incredibly unlikeable and I had a really hard time wanting her to end up with Seth. He was too open hearted and loving for her, and the way she treated him throughout was terrible. I also wasn’t a fan of the role the pandemic played or the multiple side characters involved in cheating and toxic relationships.
You may like this if you enjoy second chance romance where one character has grown up a lot and the other still has a lot of growing up to do!
Just Some Stupid Love Story tells the story of Molly, a jaded rom com screenwriter, and Seth, a divorce attorney who loves romance. They were high school sweethearts who went their separate ways, but end up reconnecting an a high school reunion.
I have a soft spot for second chance romances and I love rom coms so I jumped at the chance to read Just Some Stupid Love Story early. But now that I’ve finished it, I have some mixed feelings.
It just felt like a long read, or at least longer than the page count indicates. And in some places, the pacing wasn’t the best – it sometimes felt like it was just dragging on and on. There was a point where I felt the book embodied its title of being just a stupid love story and honestly considered DNFing around the 25% mark. Full disclaimer, I did hit a bit of a reading slump while reading this, but regardless, it normally doesn’t take me two whole months to finish reading a rom com…
But to be fair, I don’t really think Just Some Stupid Love Story is a true rom com. Were there parts that made me smile and laugh? Yes! But I personally don’t think it was as light hearted or fun as most romantic comedies are. And once I got through that first quarter, I actually really enjoyed the rest of the novel. For perspective, it took me from February 15 to April 13 to read through 28% of the novel. I read the rest of the 72% in one day.
Just Some Stupid Love Story really revolves around Molly and her self discovery, more than the actual romance. And I absolutely enjoyed peeling back the layers of her history and her journey to leave it behind her. Seth serves as a great juxtaposition – he’s so fun and nerdy that it balances out some of Molly’s more dreary moments.
In conclusion, Just Some Stupid Love Story is not just some stupid love story, but in fact a cute love second chance romance full of self discovery bogged down by poor pacing.
The miscommunication trope annoys the crap out of me. But gosh does it make for a page turner... if that's your thing. The spice is 1.5. It happens but is not detailed, just noted. The angst is from page 1 to "the end." I wanted to strangle Molly and I wanted Seth to move on. But I also wanted them to figure their crap out. Beach read for sure (I'm at the beach now reading it!) but find something fun afterwards because you will need it!
