I absolutely love this series so far. Dennard is a master at building a world and introducing information without it being overwhelming. I think my teenage self would be OBSESSED with this haha. I really loved getting more information about the town and what was going on in this book. I also enjoyed watching Winnie come into her own. I feel like the characters are spot on with what it was like being 16. It is rather crazy thinking these two books happen in a couple of week because there is just so much happening! These books are honestly fast paced and so easy to read. I love the bit of romance that shows up in this one too. All in all very excited to have these on my shelves and to read book 3!

I went between the audio and ebook for this one but honestly, the audiobook is just so fun that I finished it off that way. I really enjoy the narrator.

CW: Violence, death, injury and injury detail, grief.

A big thanks to MacMillan Audio and NetGalley for the ALC. All opinions are my own.

This was the perfect sequel to book one. I loved book one and I so excited to continue on with book two. We get to explore our characters more and the world. There’s some twists and turns and it was great. Highly recommend this series.

Thank you to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for sending me a copy of this audiobook! All opinions are my own!

I have become obsessed with this series and I desperately need to know more right this second. This series is so good about giving you just enough information to keep you hooked, but then you reach the end of each book with so many more questions than when you started. I absolutely adore the way it had me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book.

This series is set in such a unique world and I love learning more about it (I'm so excited to learn more about the Dianas). Every time it gives you more information, there's just so much more that it opens up in the world building, and I greatly enjoy every new piece of information that it throws our way.

I did find myself yelling about the very obvious plot twists, but there was also so much other twists and new lines to the story that they weren't too detrimental to the enjoyment. I love learning more about these characters and can't wait to see where the next book takes them!

Get your hands on this series now!

Once again, Susan Dennard doesn't disappoint. The mysteries get deeper, the characters get cooler, and the romance starts to SERIOUSLY heat up. I love how easy it was to get lost in the story, and how good the suspense was. The atmosphere was absolutely perfect, and totally aligned with it being autumn in the Northern Hemisphere.

The forest made me actually long for Winnie to return to it, again and again. Jay was right - do you trust the forest, or not? I'm starting to think it's not what it seems, and that you're almost safer inside its bounds than you are among the other Luminaries.

And that ending! Oh, that ending. I can't wait to see how everything unfolds in book 3.

I couldn't read this book fast enough. Just like with the Witchlands series, I'm going to have to read this book twice to pick up all the tiny details Dennard leaves behind.

Yet another great read from Susan! I can’t wait for the third book. I have this on my “bookseller faves” endcap in ya because it’s so good

Thank you Netgalley for giving me an arc in exchange of my honest review.

I enjoyed this installment a bit mire than book 1. Here we get to wee Winnie dealing with what happened in book 1 and I think the way she took everything was completely believable. This one had a bit more action which was great but I thought it was going to answer most of my questions but I still have to wait until the last book for that. The twist was predictable for me since I had figure out who was the wolf when I read book one.

In general it was a good book it just felt too juvenile at times but other than that and the predictable twist I think it can be very enjoyable.

The way this series has hooked me from the start. Unlike the first book, which was slower paced and had a lot of world building, this book was fast paced and had a lot of action. I do wish we would have learned a little more than we did about Winnie’s dad’s secret, but hopefully a lot more unfolds in the next book!

I'd like to thank the publisher for providing me with an ARC

This was a great followup to the first book. It was fast paced and continued great characterizations. We got to see more of the world building. This is currently one of my favorite series and I'm excited to see where it will end.

A big thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan audio for providing an audio arc in exchange for my honest review.

I found this second book pretty on par with book one, in terms of enjoyment. It picked up after the events of The Luminaries and expanded on the world and mysteries. I do think the characters are well developed and the story is fast paced and kept my interest. It’s not a new favorite by any means, but I am interested to see how everything wraps up in book three. 3.5 Stars.

I’m a simple girl. You give me a broody guy who plays bass in a band, I’m going to be invested. Even better if the story contains a badass girl hunter. I have Lord Byron/Mary Shelley issues.
I was lucky enough to get this early through @netgalley — questions from “The Luminaries” are answered and of course more questions emerge. Listen @stdennard I know this book isn’t even out yet but I’d really like the next one, thanks.

This was a fun one. I think I liked book 1 more and wish it didn't always say the last names. But they story in general was a fun ride.

This was a decent follow up to The Luminaries. It picks up pretty much where the first book leaves off. Winnie is adapting to her new reality and trying to continue following the clues left for her. She also makes some good self-discoveries.

The Hunting Moon by Susan Dennard is a YA fantasy with horror elements and the second book in The Luminaries series. I listened to the audiobook version, narrated by Caitlin Davies.

I had a good time with this and liked it better than the first book in the series, The Luminaries. In this second installment, we get a good amount of expanded worldbuilding. Like the first book, the plot moves pretty quickly.

Some things come to light in this book, including a few of the theories I had cooking after reading the first book. I like the trajectory it's going, and there was one reveal that really hit me in the feels.

The last book in the series, The Whispering Night is slated for release this October, and I can't wait.

Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this audio book.

Great series so far! Somewhat predictable twist but still very enjoyable. I am very much enjoying reading these. The narrator did a good job as well.

It's my new favorite triology. I like all the energy of every characters. There is a way where they are fully aware that there's a sense a family and then one of blood. The younger wants to show the others that the trial is really something dangerous.

There is a multi generation problem that only keeps on going better. After that beliving what Winnie is seeing. It helps that she has a nice name and a good personnality.

Another excellent book bringing paranormal back to life in the YA space! The mystery continues to build in this book and the narrator does an excellent job of transporting you to Winnie’s world.

Taking up shortly after the first book. Winnie got what she wanted, Luminary status, returned her families honour, and respect from her peers. Yet she’s not happy, the final trial had taken a toll on her and now questioning if she’s good enough to be who everybody thinks she is. While struggling with PTSD of the nightmare no one believes her about, Winnie starts uncover secrets about her father. Was he actually a witch or was he framed? Is her nightmare monster real or something that’s just in her head?

I found this to be a three star story, lots of interesting elements, but some uneven writing. Bullies and social ostracism, some awkwardness, etc.

This was an exciting read and a good follow up to the first book. Winnie's voice is unique and refreshing, and the storyline is interesting. The worldbuilding is great. I want to spend the day in Hemlock Falls, although maybe not the forest.

The Hunting Moon, by Susan Dennard, is the second installment in the authors The Luminaries series. The story follows a group of people who live in Hemlock Falls. These folks are trained to hunt and kill the monsters (nightmares like changelings, and harpies) that are spawned each night in the forest, before these monsters escape and kill innocents. 16-year old Winnie Wednesday has passed her hunter trials but now has the infamous reputation as being the girl who jumped as well as the girl who was bitten by a werewolf.

She is also the only one in Hemlock Falls who seems to know about a new nightmare called the Whisperer, but she also lost part of her memories. To make matters worse, Winnie worries that her Aunt Rachel, who knows about her trials and the reality of what Winnie did, will go back on her word to allow Winnie's family back into the Luminaries after they were banished 4 years ago after her father was accused of being a Diana (Witch). Winnie's trials are not over. She still must put together the pieces that her father left behind for her.
