Informative and well researched. Great for someone just starting to learn about health and wellness. If you like fitness books you may not get much new information from this book.
This is a cookbook geared toward medical research with recipes considered easy as well as tasty. There is a meal plan that is designed to go with the author's best seller The Simple Heart Cure: The 90-Day Program to Stop and Reverse Heart Disease Revised and Updated (which I have not read that book). The recipes and information in this book are to help prevent and even reverse heart disease according to the book. The author talks about things to do that include better living and diet change. The author includes diets, tips, meal prep, shopping lists, meal plans, recipes and other easy-to-follow steps to help. This is a well-organized book that can make it simple to follow this diet and meal plan.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me providing me with an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review, All opinions are my own.
This book was not a great match for me personally. I found the informational section to be presented in an uninteresting way while also not being particularly clear. I also found a lot of the wording to be unencouraging.
As for the meal plan, I personally did not find it to be particularly useful because there were so many meals I would not be interested in eating and not enough information is given to allow you to make substitutions. on your own. I recognize that some of this is personal preference.
As someone who is always curious about health and fitness topics, I was eager to read this book by Dr. Chauncey Crandal, a cardiologist who has performed over 40,000 heart procedures and recovered from his own heart attack1. The book claims to offer a simple and effective way to prevent and reverse heart disease by changing your diet and lifestyle. However, I was disappointed by the lack of originality and depth in the book. Most of the information seemed to be common sense or easily available online. The book seems to be aimed at people who are new to healthy eating and need guidance on what to eat and how to cook. The book provides 28 days of meal plans and over 100 recipes that are heart-healthy.
I think this book might be helpful for someone who is just starting their journey to a healthier heart, but for someone who is already familiar with the basics of nutrition and cooking, this book does not offer much value.
There weren't any astounding revelations on nutrition or diet contained within this book. And while this might be great for people at a healthy weight, despite mentioning obesity several times, the meal plans are unrealistic for anyone needing a higher caloric intake. 3 egg whites and a half a cup of blueberries is less than 100 calories. This is an incredibly unhealthy breakfast. I
In The Simple Heart Cure Diet and Meal Plan, Chauncey Crandall has written a book to assist readers in reducing the effects of major heart disease. He is a cariologist. He begins the book by sharing how 20 years ago he was close to having a heart attack. He experienced pain in his left shoulder and he thought it was just a pulled muscle and no big deal. He went to the ER and discovered he had coronary heart disease and had an artery blockage. His wife instructed him for years to eat better and to lose weight and he didn’t. He almost suffered the deadly consequence for not listening. He decided to change and he also began to help others. He created a diet that mixed the plant-based diet and a Mediterranean diet. This diet will help with managing your high cholesterol, lower blood pressure, and preventing or reversing diabetes. He shared four key principles in successfully completing the diet. One of these is filling up on fiber and this will assist us in staying full longer. He enclosed a shopping list and a sample menu for a whole month.
One of my favorite features discussed how we can snack on protein to keep us full and it helps our cells to build immunity. They help us to sleep better and feel more rested. Some of the food items are hard boiled eggs, nuts, Greek yogurt, edamame, pumpkin seeds, hummus, just to name a few. He also stated how important it is to eat breakfast and it has helped lots of people to keep weight off. The book also went over fitness and how to improve and increase how much you exercise.
I would recommend this inspiring diet book to anyone who is struggling with their weight and are at risk of developing heart disease or other health issues. This book is an excellent resource to use to combat their challenges of losing weight. I loved all of the recipe ideas and how easy they appear to be and quick. Some of these was chicken parmesan, peanut butter waffle, beet brownies, strawberry spinach salad, and much more. There is tons of menu planning ideas and it’s super easy to make it a lifestyle of healthy eating. I loved how the book contains some pictures and graphics to lure readers into enjoying the book even more.

Very informative book, which I felt like I learnt a lot from.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
I’m a recipe and nutrition book aficionado and read all that cross my path for ideas and inspiration because I’ve struggled with HBP, high cholesterol levels, and inflammation from rheumatoid arthritis for decades, so when Dr. Chauncey Crandall’s, “The Simple Heart Cure Diet and Meal Plan—28 Days of Healthy Meals and Over 100 Delicious and Easy Recipes,” was made available for my review I eagerly devoured the pages and can happily recommend that this is a winner in all aspects.
Dr. Crandall’s guidance is straightforward and based on his own experience. It’s nothing revolutionary; however, his advice reinforces what in our minds we know is true.
As he suggests, we should think like skinny people. They eat when they are hungry because their bodies tell them that they are hungry. They also stop eating immediately when their stomach indicates that it’s full. Don’t just gorge and pig-out because something tastes ‘so good.’ It’s not like you’re never gonna have any other great food again.
Also, Dr. Crandall stresses that small meals with high quality proteins and filling fiber are critical to keep you from crashing, then craving carbs and sweets. He even changed his former healthy oatmeal breakfast to one of eggs because he maintained a longer satiated feeling throughout the morning without a carb low before lunch.
His sensible eating plans are terrific for anyone seeking a healthy and nutritious lifestyle, as well as persons in risk of developing the four major killer maladies: heart diseases, stroke, cancers, and diabetes. As Dr. Crandall says, “Save your heart, save your life.”
Dr. Crandall’s recipes are delicious as well and include varieties from blueberry pancakes to whole wheat veggie pizza. There are fabulous options that aren’t just salad or turkey and avocados—my personal favorites— but yummy options like stuffed mushrooms, chicken Parmesan, sloppy Joes, mini quiches, chicken wings, and so many more yummy, yet healthy options.
JoyReaderGirl1 graciously thanks NetGalley, Author Dr. Chauncey Crandall, and Publisher Humanix Books for this advanced reader’s copy (ARC) for review.
I learned a lot from this book. Some things I knew, many I didn't. Really helful if you want to put your health on the right track.

Dr. Crandall gives advice that is practical, sensible, and timeless.
With every new "diet" and "lifestyle" that has become popular in the past few years, it seems like we have forgotten the basics of a good, heart-healthy diet and this book by Dr. Crandall reminds us of exactly that! None of the information in the book is new but it is a wake-up call for us to get back to the basics of healthy eating.

Hi everyone!
for me it’s very hard to review this book.
I didn’t like how it deals with losing weight, the wording could have been definitely better.
Let me explain, if you are a person that has never dealt with eating disorders this is probably going to be a great book to learn how to eat better. If you are sensitive to the topic please choose another book.
All of this is because I really didn’t like some phrases like “think like a thin person” and other similar stuff.
But, really, if you have family members with heart diseases this is going to be a great book to help you with your diet!
I perused not really knowing what to expect. First, it is well-organized, the recipes are clear, and the rationale for all of it is explained. As promised, 30 days of recipes are there.
This book is perfect for someone who is a vegetable lover or who needs to make a drastic diet change. The first week is vegetable heavy. Lots of chopping. There is some variety that opens. This is a total change and not one of those diets that promises that you can keep eating what you are eating now. That will only hold true if you are already following a a Mediterranean diet already.
As a leading cardiologist, author Chauncey W. Crandall gives us an informative and well needed lifestyle check with many recommended foods and meals towards heart health. With simple exercise plans and meal ideas, this is a book for all interested in improving their health.
The simple heart cure diet & meal plan does exactly what is says on the cover, the recipes are straightforward and easy to follow and perfect for people who are not fussy on what they eat. It is packed with plenty of information but I did feel it could of expanded on the exercise part a little more but as a introduction to healthier eating it’s a goodwill start.
For those who have been unable to stay with a whole food plant based diet, this is a compromise: plants but with animal proteins from the Mediterranean diet. Oils and fattening items from the Mediterranean diet are mediated to help with weight loss but items like fish and eggs are kept for satiety through their protein. There are a few contradictions, the book feels very over simplified, and I can't help but feel this is a gateway rather than a lifestyle type of book. By that, I mean that you'll need discipline not to revert back to old eating habits since the constraints of what you can/shouldn't eat are very relaxed. Of course, just avoiding fast food and processed foods is a huge win.
The book is very simple in terms of what is here: very easy short chapters, a day by day meal plan, a few extra recipes to add variety, and then an exercise plan that amounts to walking 10,000 steps a day and a suggestion to do some resistance training. Nothing is really in detail here and I think the goal of the book is to keep from overloading readers who are likely already suffering from cardio vascular disease. As the author notes, he also had a heart attack and that is what prompted him to change his own diet.
The diet includes eggs, yogurt, salmon, anchovies/herring, cottage cheese, and other animal products. The author lists his own meals that includes 2 egg whites and 1 egg yolk in the morning but then makes the recommendation that readers only eat 1 egg per day. This felt somewhat contradictory and it was interesting to note that he eats animal products at every meal. He believes that animal proteins are filling/satiating and so thinks it is important to keep them in a diet despite their cholesterol and saturated fat. He just wants everyone to avoid red meats except for game/wild animals and cut down on chicken.
Two things especially brought the book down for me. The book is very simplistic and can be read in entirety in 30 minutes. That might be a plus in the beginning but I have concerns that oversimplification and compromise are a set up for failure to really change permanently. But at the same time, I recognize that this might be what some people really need from a diet plan. The second is that there are ads for his subscription service in the back - it made me feel that the book is just an extended advertising pamphlet to draw you into spending more money on his service. Motivation is so often found in community and that was missing from the book and is perhaps only available if you pay him more money. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.
A handy book to have if you want to give your wellness a boost!
Great meal ideas, great recipes - some of them nice and quick - great ideas, lots of personal details to really make you give this book good consideration.
A really handy tool!
