Powerless is another amazing installment in the Chestnut Springs series! Jasper stole my heart with his back story and I just wanted to grab this boy with the heart of gold and hug him! Sloane was absolutely precious and I was rooting for her along the way. My heart broke for her and they manipulation she has had to endure. I love that these two saw each other for who they were and the strength that they were able to provide each other. The chemistry and tension between these two was perfect. The sweet things Jasper does for Sloane with and without her knowing melted my heart. He is so swoon! I, loved his possessive and protective side, then his use of "mine." The friends-to-lovers connection between Jasper and Sloane is portrayed with tender hesitation and undeniable chemistry. Their relationship transforms as they embark on an impromptu road trip, and the narrative unfolds into an epic love story. I cannot recommend this story and series enough.
When I tell you this book had me in a chokehold, I couldn't be more honest. I could NOT put this book down! It had all the right tropes, friends to lovers, one bed, both of them in denial of their feelings, or thinking the other person couldn't possibly feeling the same way, when really, they were truly meant to be together. I've come to find out I'm a hopeless romantic, so I am a huge sucker for soulmates and truly believing there is one person out there for you, just like Sloan and Jasper were meant for each other.
This book was amazing, and I definitely made me weak in the knees with Jasper's demands, and Sloan's never-ending willingness to comply. The possessiveness of that man, and his ability to let Sloan also be independent. I was in love; Jasper is 100% my book boyfriend. (Sorry Sloan)
The book was definitely worth the read, and I would strongly suggest you give it a try, even if you didn't like the first book.
Elsie Silver is a new to me author; I think I found her after seeing other authors sharing some of her work and I thought I'd give Powerless a try.
The first few chapters had me interested in the story of Sloane and Jasper, but if I'm being honest, there was a little bit of a drag after I got to know them and what their story was about and when things picked up for me. I think it was just a little too much of them in their heads about each other, when it was clear to everyone that they were both pining for each other...and yet they continued to deny it for what sometimes felt like forever. That being said, I still found their love story interesting with all of the side characters and subplots that were involved and that kept things moving for me and then things got moving for Sloane and Jasper and once that happened, the novel picked up steam and I flew through the rest of the pages.
I enjoyed how sweet both Sloane and Jasper were and I also appreciated that they both were strong and weak and that when needed, they had each other's back. I loved the whole family aspect of the novel and am definitely curious about the other siblings and their books. So even though there were parts that were a smidge slow for me, I'm glad I stuck with it because it ended up being a solid 3.5 read.
Elsie SIlver continuously delivers amazing stories and characters you can't help but feel for. Jasper is especially easy to get lost in and following the journey between him and Sloane was enjoyable from start to finish!
Back to chestnut springs we go, with some time in Calgary. Jasper and Sloane have been best friends since Jasper came into the family. 20 years later things finally and I mean FINALLY start to move in the right direction. Sloane runs away from her wedding- thank god and her and Jasper go on a road trip that has snow- one bed- pool- bad beer- and feelings coming out! Also, get ready for HOLY SHIT HOT HOT steam- dirty talk! Jasper has to work through his childhood and Sloane learns about her horrible dad. There are some gems of lines as well - so get ready!
We also got a Gold Rush Ranch camo and it was just perfect also! Harvey is perfect and adorable and you want him as a second dad as well. We also get all the Eatons and how their lives are.
With all that hype I will say- WTF why not say something to each other at some point - sure the first decade but not the last 5 years?? You are a professional hockey player! Also, I really hated that she kept wearing the ring for way too long.

This was a fun and spicy small town friends-to-lovers story, and I am here for it. There is plenty of character development, and best of all, there’s no major third-act drama. I highly recommend this book.
I received an ARC from NetGalley. This is my honest review.
Elsie Silver continues to impress with her latest release, solidifying her status as one of my favorite authors. Having eagerly anticipated Jasper's story since the first book in the series, I can confidently say that it exceeded all expectations. Jasper Gervais, a broken hero with a tragic past, captivates with his love and loyalty to Sloane, providing a complex and endearing character. The chemistry between Jasper and Sloane is intense, especially in the bedroom scenes where Jasper's dirty mouth adds an extra layer of steam. The slow-burn romance, complemented by flashbacks and character development, contributes to the authenticity of the story. Silver's talent shines through in crafting emotionally resonant narratives, making the reader feel deeply connected to the characters. Although reluctant to finish the book, I am eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series, hoping it might focus on Beau and continue the emotional rollercoaster.
Love me a road trip romance! This series just keeps getting better and better. I've fallen in love with this family and it is fun to see characters from Silver's other series.
Jasper and Sloane had a childhood friendly flirtation and are given a second chance once Sloane pulls a Runaway Bride . This series gives small-town romance a breath of fresh air and a heaping of spice, love it! Side note: I love the updated covers for this series 🙌
Although I didn’t read this previous books in the series I could still enjoy it and understand the side characters.
This friends to lover is a a powerful story about doing what you want to do and loving who you want to love.
I enjoyed it and made me want to read the other books in the series.
Elsie Silver has done it again! I really enjoyed this one and can we just drool over these covers for a minute?? I recommend this series!
Back in Chestnut Springs, and this time the romance is between the adopted Eaton brother Jasper and the Eaton's cousin, Sloane. Jasper is such a sweet guy, and just wants the best for Sloane. Sloane starts off engaged and almost married to this HORRIBLE guy, but breaks it off and ends up spending time with Jasper. One of the tropes was childhood friends/crushes to lovers, which I enjoyed, but overall I still liked book 1 the best so far!
please note that the trigger warnings and topes/themes may contain spoilers
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
HEA: yes
spice: several open-door spicy scenes
TWs: blackmail, car accident (non-fatal), death of a parent (recounted), parental abandonment, cheating (not MCs), verbally abusive partner, verbally abusive parent, sexism
standalone: book 3 in the Chestnut Springs series
final thoughts: OKAY SO JASPER TOOK ME BY COMPLETE SURPRISE!!! He comes across as grumpy when he’s a shy cinnamon roll guy, but WOW does his mouth not match that persona!! I love a dirty talking MMC especially when it’s unexpected. I loved how he was a hockey player and a cowboy- didn’t know how that was going to play out but it was done well. I’m glad Sloan made him work for it since he’s turned her down over and over throughout the years

Powerless is Jasper and Sloane’s story and I was so excited and here for it. Jasper is such a mystery. This famous Hockey guy is so quiet and keeps everything to himself except for Sloane, who knows everything, has great intuition and is full of joy. She is such a fun character and I thought she and Jasper were so great together, so I just ate up their book so fast and I loved every minute. There was so much great tension between them, as well as compassion and having each other's back. I thought that their relationship development was amazing and pretty unique on the complications they were having. Powerless, had so many great tropes that I love and they were done so well I could not put it down, It was so fun. I did not give Powerless a full five stars because there was a bit of repetitiveness in plot, but I still really enjoyed this story that has a little bit of everything.
I received an ebook, via Netgalley. This review is my own honest opinion.
Thank you for this book in exchange for my honest review.
I thought the book started out pretty strangely. While it was easy to follow, the set up of the family a little bit odd to me and I felt like I was given only a portion of the characters. It felt like a puzzle piece was missing.
The plot was predictable, and I felt like the characters were as well rounded as they were in the previous two books in the series.
Since I don’t rate books anything lower than a three star , that is what this book will have. However, it was less than that for me.
Ohhh the feels this book gave me, spoilers it was all of them. My favorite friend to lovers story, of the pinning! Also loved the big softie that is Jasper plus being a hockey stud, chefs kiss! Sloane was also a fantastic character loved her journey in standing up for herself. It's my Christmas wish to get her mom and Harveys book next.
POWERLESS - ELSIE SILVER
3.75⭐
PLOT Sloane leaves her douchebag of fiance on her wedding day and it's none other than Jasper Gervais her best friend who helps her.
An impromptu road trip forces them to confront their feelings for each other. But can they figure out their happy ever after?
MY THOUGHTS
This was good read though I enjoyed the first two books more.
The friends to lovers part was well done but the steam in the second half of the book was a bit much imo. Nonetheless i want to read the last two books in the chestnut spring series soon.
I enjoyed this read, the second one I have read in this series. I was excited to read about the MMC romance story as he was familiar from the other story and I was not let down. Both of the main characters are very likeable and I love how their relationship went from friends to lovers. Added in is a hockey plot line and runaway bride shenanigans which really keeps you interested and wanting more.
It was a good read! I loved the hockey/ballet inclusion in this book. And the setting of Chestnut Springs is so much fun for me to read about. I know lots of people loved it. Not my favorite of the series though!
I received an arc via Netgalley, and am leaving an honest review about the book. I’m thankful to the publisher and the author for giving me this wonderful opportunity!
I love Elsie Silver’s small town romances a lot, and Powerless is one of them. However, I didn’t particularly enjoy it as much as I’d enjoyed Flawless and Heartless, so this ended up at a three star rating. I think Heartless in particular set up a standard for me that Powerless didn’t really meet, which was pretty upsetting, but that’s ok.
However, I love friends to lovers, so this was lovely to read. My favorite part was when Jasper basically fucked the ring off Sloane’s finger JDJSJDJSJJD Him making sure she had a place to go to when her horrible father and equally disturbing fiance were terrible to her was everything to me. We all need a Jasper in our life sometime. <3
