I just couldn’t get into this one very much. The characters and story just fell a bit flat. It wasn’t bad per se, just wasn’t for me.

I loved book one and was so excited to continue the series, but unfortunately, I just simply could not connect with this one! I'm not sure what it is about it, but it took me a few tries to get into it, by rereading the beginning. And then I couldn't really connect to the characters enough. Maybe this just wasn't the right time for me to read it, which happens sometimes. I will be reading the next book though, because I do enjoy the world created. Thank you for giving me a chance to read it!

»How to Fake-Date A Vampire« sounded like such a fun book because I love the fake dating trope and fantasy romances but ultimately this book just wasn't for me.
I found it to be pretty boring for one thing. It's not that I expected high stakes in a cozy small town setting but neither the characters nor the story made me care about what was happening. The writing was also... a bit silly? Like, the characters didn't felt like they were adults. Which is something some people like to read or aren't bothered by but I found both our main characters pretty annoying most of the time. And also, why make him a vampire if there's nothing vampiric about him? He does drink blood, yes. But he's aging like a human, he eats like a human apart from the blood, he is not dangerous in any way. That was the most disappointing vampire I've ever read about.
To be totally honest I actually dnf the book at like 90% because I just couldn't bring myself to finish it because I just didn't care at all if the characters ended up together or if the ball was a success.

Thank you to netgalley for an advanced copy of this book!

The premise of this really intrigued me and I absolutely love fake dating, vampires & witches! Unfortunately this was a bit disappointing.

It’s quite a fun story with the two main characters, Alaric’s family and Emma’s familiar. I did really like Emma, Alaric is a bit of a bland character and one thing I just HAVE to talk about - what was the point in him being a vampire? He acts like a human and apart from maybe 1/2 lines where it explains what a vampire does in this world, he didn’t need to be at all as it has no bearing on the story. It literally could’ve been just Emma as a witch meeting a duke and his family.

I enjoyed maybe the first 50/60% but then I found myself just wanting it to be done as Alaric isn’t a great love interest even though he is attentive and does things that he should, but I just didn’t feel the chemistry between them and a lot of interactions felt really boring. And the 3rd act obligatory break up was just very silly and wasn’t needed at all. Not one I would read again unfortunately!

I really enjoyed this one! Emma finds herself in an impossible situation - she needs to find a venue better than the Enchanted Gardens to host their annual Belatne Ball.....but in order to get the one she wants, she has to agree to fake date the Duke, Alaric. Sure, what could go wrong?

Of course, Alaric is a difficult man and vampire who has the family Emma has always wanted....but does she want him, too? It's hard for Alaric to trust after his last girlfriend and Emma doesn't want to be involved with the bigger than life lifestyle he leads. But they can't seem to stop being confused about whether or not their "dating" is real. Watching them come together was so sweet, and finally realizing that they're so good for each other was the best!

I quite enjoy a fake-dating trope, however they often irritate me and leave me feeling a little angry and frustrated, why I do it to myself I don't know, however this one was more on the fluffy side, it made me smile, I wouldn't say it packed the humour but it was light and a little dusted over when it came to the conclusion. Something easy and quick to read and I enjoyed it for what it was.

I would have enjoyed this A LOT more if it was just called "How to Fake Date. a Duke." Look, the author makes the rules and vampires work and operate differently from one fantasy world to another. However, I was reading this for spooky season and it just doesn't give vampire AT ALL. We also never get an explanation of how it works and what the vampire rules are in this universe. So yeah, I was very disappointed.

This was fun! The banter was cute. I do wish we had more about vampires but overall I really enjoyed. Very cozy.

This was a lovely fake dating romance with supernatural/witchy vibes. It was just the thing I was looking for right now. As always the familiars in these books are so much fun and they have the best lines. I also loved how loving, caring and welcoming Alaric’s family was. Emma and Alaric is a really cute couple. However regards to the paparazzi that said he had his sources in how he knew about their relationship, we were never told who that source was. Which I would’ve liked to know.

Furthermore, in the beginning it was a bit repetitive how Emma kept goin going on about “oh no I read something bad about him and his dad in the newspaper so therefore he must be bad too. Especially since his dad was a bad person he must be bad too”. It was just too repetitive or mentioned to many times, it felt like I was gettin spoon-fed even though I already understood. I also wished we got a bit more romance, in the sense of reading more about Alaric and Emma’s relationship.

However this was a lovely quick witchy romance read. 3.5⭐️

The story is cute, the banter is fun, the witchy vibes are great bbbutttt it’s lacking the vampire part. It’s mentioned in the beginning but we never learn about vampires or hear it mentioned more.

Witchy chick Emma Willoughby is new comer to Charming Cove and is trying to find where she can fit in with her coven. Trying to win them over she volunteers to plan the town's Beltane Ball and go up against a rival witch for the coveted position of officially joining the Coven. Biting off more than she can chew, she mentions she wants it to be held at the Duke of Blackthorn's estate. There is just one problem, he is moody, mysterious and has NEVER let people on his property. No problem, she will just charm him into giving her permission.

She quickly agrees to fake date the Duke at his request in exchange for use of the property for the Ball. Between trying to plan the ball, fake dating the duke, and trying to work with her coven, she has her hands full. What could go wrong?

I have not read the first book in this series, but I didn't feel like I was missing out. This definitely felt like a standalone book. I thought it was a cute read and I like the whole fake dating as a genre, however I felt this would have read better as an enemies to lovers/fake dating. The fake dating was too easy and there wasn't enough wondering if they were going to end up together. I really enjoyed the supernatural aspect though, and will probably read the first book of the series.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy of the E-book in exchange for an honest review.

Many thanks to Net Galley and Bonny Doon Press for a copy of How to Fake-Date a Vampire.

I enjoyed this book, but there were a few problems, in my opinion. First, the beginning speaks of the Duke who is a vampire. But after that, nothing. The Witch's character however, was built up.

This is my first book by this author. It is the second book of a series and I have not read the first book.

Overall, I felt this was a cute fake dating story. There were parts I really enjoyed. I liked the banter between the characters and I liked the “witchiness” parts. Where it lacked for me was the vampire part. The title is called “How to Fake Date A Vampire,” but there is not much in the book about vampires. Honestly, they could have just called him a Duke and it wouldn’t have effected the story. I wanted more vampire stuff! Overall, it was a warm-hearted Hallmark movie type book but with a little spookiness.

Thank you Netgalley and publishers for providing me with a free e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

while this book is part of a series each one features a new couple. I have only read this book and there were no spoilers to any other in the series.
There is nothing fresh with this story, if you enjoy the fake dating trope this book will prove enjoyable. it is lighthearted with minimal drama. The characters were okay but nothing to make it stand out from the crowd.
i received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I found myself enjoying the fake dating of Emma and Alaric.
The banter was enjoyable and Emma trying to work her way up in her coven was entertaining.
I always enjoy the fake dating troupe.
It was a fun and enjoyable book

This book really had it all. A likeable cast of characters, a cozy environment, simple but fun lore for the "monsters" who are in this book.

It was a really delightful and easy read, keeping me engaged throughout. I also found it incredibly easy to hop back into the story even when real life took me away from it for a few days.

I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun read!

I wanted to like this, and I can see why others would like it, but sadly, I just really didn't like it.

The entire premise was very generic. Fake dating is a common trope (and possibly overdone), but I thought I'd enjoy a spin on the trope when supernatural elements like vampires and witches were mixed in. However, if you removed the supernatural elements, this book would have been almost identical, save a couple minor subplots about a ghost and Emma's familiar. I didn't see the point in Alaric's character being a vampire as it had very little bearing on his character development or the plot, and it actually almost never came up other than a couple of generic side comments. Was Alaric a vampire or just a regular rich guy?

The world-building was barely explained, so I didn't even really have a concept of what it meant to be a vampire or a witch in this world. Giving the story the benefit of the doubt though, it's possibly that the supernatural world-building elements were explained more in book 1, which I have not read, but if that's what happened, this really shouldn't be read as a standalone.

I didn't think the main characters had much chemistry, and I could not have cared less about the plot around the ball.

Overall, it is a fairly lighthearted and quick read though, so if you're reading it just for a standard fake dating story and don't care about the fake dating elements, you might enjoy this, but definitely don't pick this up just for the title or you'll be disappointed.

Also, be aware that this was more of a cozy fantasy book and kind of had the vibes of being a clean book, but it wasn't. That part wasn't for me, but this didn't impact my rating.

I love fantasy vampire books to death, and this just hit perfectly. I’ve not read anything from Lindsey hall before. so I was a little bit sceptical, but the writing style was easy to read. It was fun. It was fast paced. It had everything that I would want in a romance novel and especially in the spooky time of the year that’s just gone past and it was just spot on. I read it on Halloween and it was everything I wanted and needed to pick me up from Reader‘s slump

"How to Fake-Date a Vampire" by Linsey Hall is a delightful romantic fantasy that weaves magic, humor, and romance into an enchanting tale. The story follows Emma, a witty witch, as she enters into a fake relationship with Alaric, a charming vampire duke, to prove her worth to her coven. The book skillfully combines popular tropes like fake dating and found family, creating a fresh and engaging narrative. Emma's authenticity and determination make her a relatable protagonist, and Alaric's genuine nature adds depth to their budding romance. While the plot follows a predictable path at times, the story's execution keeps readers invested in the characters' journey. The book's minor shortcomings, such as quick resolutions and occasional corniness, are overshadowed by its endearing characters and witty storytelling. Overall, "How to Fake-Date a Vampire" is a heartwarming and humorous read, perfect for fans of lighthearted fantasy romance, offering an enjoyable escape into a magical world of love and acceptance.
