I got quite into this book and enjoyed reading the twists and turns as the story developed. Unfortunately the supernatural bit at the end ruined it for me, totally daft and not necessary. The storyline was great as it was x

The Prom Queen by Laura Wolfe

Brooke has returned to renovate her childhood home after her mum passed away, she has not been back home for twenty years since her best friend Bailey jumped from a bridge onto an oncoming train. Bailey’s death was said to be a suicide, but Brooke has always wondered was it a suicide or was Bailey pushed? Now a Podcaster, Hannah, has come to town investigating Bailey’s death.

I enjoyed the book very much and I could not wait to see if Hannah is correct and there was more to Bailey’s death or not. I love how this book took a nasty turn towards the end. The twist I never saw coming.

I would like to thank Net Galley and Bookouture for a copy of this eBook in exchange for an honest review.

PROM QUEEN thrillers and horror are totally my jam! And Laura Wolfe does not disappoint with this novel. I was entertained and engaged the whole time, really ready to solve the mystery at hand. Prom Queen follows Brooke who just recently moved back to her little high school hometown because she needs to sell her mom’s house. Her high school best friend, Bailey, died on the night of their prom twenty years ago and they ruled it as a suicide. But a podcaster named Hannah has come into town to bust the case open again and see if that was really the case.

I enjoyed the past and present dual narrative as I normally do. And I think the way the past and present are unfolding at simultaneous times works really well in Prom Queen. There are clues and red herrings, conspiracies, scapegoats, more death, mysterious threatening notes, and more!

I thought I had it all figured out around 40%, but a curveball got thrown ALL our way and switched up the game completely. More than one, actually! And may we get a sequel?! Who knows! Definitely give this one a chance if you, too, find it fascinating how people can't ever get over and escape high school. Okaaaay. To be fair two people died by the same train tracks that kind of kept those high school feelings alive in this case. So I will give it a pass here. Wolfe put together a fun, twisty story!

I LOVE this book, the way the tension builds throughout the scenes and the way the author uses flashbacks to help the reader gain deeper understanding of what really happened the night Bailey died. All the minor events which add up throughout the story kept me gripped the whole time and obsessed with finding out the truth. It is the perfect book for fans of A Good Girl's Guide To Murder series. The plot twist at the end left me speechless. I would have never guessed it!

I love these kinds of books where everyone is just a liar, it just fuels my love for the drama of it all. My first thought when I saw this book was, that it looked like it had some good drama in it and WOW was I correct!

This book starts out 20 years after the murder of Bailey who had just been crowned prom queen, which was deemed a suicide a little too quickly. Now though almost all the original suspects are back in town and there's a podcaster snooping around trying to figure out all their secrets. The story follows Brooke, who was Bailey's ex-best friend and also a huge suspect in the case and she has just as many questions as everyone else does.

I love books that take characters with dirty and dark pasts and put them all back together, and watching them basically just brawl it out. The collapsing of old friendships, the secrets uncovered, and the nitty-gritty of what happened in the past. This book was incredibly hard to put down, and I read it in two days easily.

I loved Brooke as a character, and how she was not always who she seemed she was but stayed a character you could root for. She felt mature, if a bit irrational at times, and just made a perfect person to follow for this story. Next, I really loved Bailey's character, and how Wolfe wrote a beautiful downfall of a girl who loses herself bit by bit. The characters were all very compelling and interesting to read about, and ALL of them made the perfect suspects.

As for the story itself, it was shocking. I do not want to spoil anything but every chapter is adding something new to this web of secrets that surrounds Bailey's death. Plus that ending??? Absolutely deceased from shock.

The book follows Brooke, a mother with some secrets of her own as she returns to her hometown. She’s met by Hannah, a podcaster, there to do a story on Bailey, Brooke’s former best friend and her school’s prom Queen who died in an apparent suicide on the night she was crowned…or was it something more nefarious? Hannah is there to find out and she has a long list of potential suspects, including Brooke. She’s not the only one who seems to suspect Brooke of something and Brooke needs to figure out what really happened before something happens to her.

Fairly good story. Everyone seems to have something to hide, as usual. Don’t peak in high school and don’t be a bully!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Brookes best friend Bailey Maddox died on prom night 20 years prior. Was it suicide or murder? When Brooke returns to her hometown, podcaster Hannah Mead starts investigating the case. With the help of Brooke it stirs up deadly secrets someone will kill to keep.

This was a small town murder mystery that kept me entertained throughout the story. The pacing was good and it definitely had me questioning who did it.

Prom Queen keep me wanted to read more about Cove Heaven a town where all the people who lives there knows each others.
It is about Bailey a prom queen who died 20 years ago due mysterious circumstances according to her friend Brooke.
Brooke returned to Cove Heaven to renovate and sell his mother's house. Meanwhile, she begins to uncover certain topics that for many are things of the past, discovering secrets that she would never have thought of, Brooke and Hannah get closer to the true reason for Bailey's death and get closer to people that perhaps they should have left behind. in peace.

Laure is a wonderful writer, the story, the characteres, the enviroment all the thing that she describes was a truly good story. I have never imagine the end,

I was suspicious of everyone, and not who I should have been looking at. Totally recommended

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and Bookouture for the advance copy to read.

The story follows Brooke as she returns home to Haven Cove following the death of her mother to sell her inherited home. Whilst home it coincides with the 20 year anniversary of her best friends death by suicide. Or was it suicide?

This book will have you questioning all the characters as you go along. It's filled with twist you never see coming.

The writing is easy to read. However, my personal preference is for more detailed and descriptive writing as my taste in novels expands and matures.

That being said if you want an easy to read small town, possible cold case whodunnit then this is absolutely for you.

3.5 stars.

I really liked it! Prom Queen is a well written, fast paced, page turner. The intrigue starts building from the first chapter. The story’s timeline is clearly identified at the beginning of each chapter: alternating between Now and Then (20 years ago). It was hard to put down. Definitely a “Whoa!, didn’t see that coming!” ending.
Thank You to NetGalley, Bookouture and Laura Wolfe for the opportunity to read and enjoy this ARC.

Synopsis: Brooke has returned to Cove Haven to renovate her childhood home. When Brooke stops at the local coffee shop, she meets a podcaster who is investigating the local 20-year-old mystery of the death of the prom queen. Will Brooke finally get to the bottom of her best friend's death 20 years later?

What I liked: This was definitely an easy read. While there are many suspects, the author does a fantastic job of recounting everyone's stories with past and present accounts of the main plot and backstory. This book has a small-town feel and is very well written. At one point in the story, everyone was a suspect, and I became so involved in the story!

What I disliked: The epilogue was odd to me. It felt as though the entire vibe of the book took a turn, almost turning the book into a Steven King-like novel.

I gave this book 4/5 stars. This was an enjoyable read that I was able to read in a few sittings. If you enjoy the small-town feel with a lot of unexpected twists, then I highly recommend this book! The expected publication date is October 9, 2023.

Thank you to NetGalley and to Bookouture for the advanced copy of this book!

I’m giving this book 3.5 stars- soooo close to 4 because the ending was definitely unexpected. I think the fact that the one character that was hardly mentioned turned out to be the one we were searching for seemed a little obvious- maybe I just read too many thrillers. I loved the back and forth between the past and present timelines, I always think that it adds something to the book in creating more of a backstory. I would absolutely read a sequel and would pick another Laura Wolfe book because her writing is great.

LOVED! Highly recommend.

A podcaster focuses in on a case of a “suicide” in a small town from years before. Who did it? The story unravels a lot of suspects and will keep you guessing until the last pages.

This was a tense and mysterious thriller that I managed to read in a day! The characters were intriguing and the narrative was gripping. I found this an easy read that was impossible to put down as I was desperate to found out the truth of Bailey’s death. There were so many twists and turns and unexpected plots to come out from this book but I am happy to know that some of my theories came true. The narrative was well written and paced evenly and I really enjoyed the switch between past and present and being able to see the events of the night unfold as Brooke relived the trauma of her friendship. I really enjoyed the book and found it so easy to read and to uncover the mystery of the small town.

A really gripping read. The book is told from two different times and in both times I couldn't wait to find out what happened. All the way to the end, I was ready to give the book 5 stars, but the epilogue just felt totally unnecessary and ruined it for me!
