I really enjoyed this book! At multiple times I thought I had it all figured out. I was wrong every time. Never once guessed the ending. This mystery sucked me in from the start. Highly recommend. 4.5/5 stars.
This book piqued my interest from the star and I loved the Prom Queen element of the book. It definitely adds to the intense vibe, which is reminiscent of how i felt the first time I read Carrie.
Twenty years ago, the town's prom queen Bailey was found dead. Presumed to be death by suicide, the town slowly but surely moved on.
When Bailey's old best friend Brooke returns to the small town to clean out her childhood home, signs of Bailey's death begin to pop up everywhere. Bailey's missing half of the friendship locket was found, and a podcaster is in town covering the death.
Suspicions arise everywhere. Was he involved? Did she do it? Was this really a suicide, or, was it a murder? The only thing Brooke knows is that she is innocent- no matter what the town thinks.
A twisty-turny small-town murder goes from nothing to everything in the blink of an eye. Will we ever find the killer?
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC of this book. I really enjoyed this, edge of your seat twisty thriller. The main character Brooke was easy to root for, she actually made smart decisions and I could imagine her as a great 'final girl'. The plot revolves around Brooke returning to her home town and trying to discover who, if anyone, killed her friend 'The Prom Queen' 20 years earlier. The story moves along at a nice pace, there are lots of characters but it's still easy to follow and lots of characters means lots of suspects. I think I suspected every single person of foul play at one point but the book still managed to shock the hell out of me at the end. This is a great thriller, dealing with themes of friendship, jealousy and rejection. I would highly recommend!
Prom Queen was a very captivating read! Brooke and Bailey were best friends, until Bailey ditches Brooke for the “cool crowd” at school once she joins the cheerleading squad.
Bailey is crowned prom queen and that night she jumps in front of a train.
20 years later Brooke returns to Cove Haven and a podcaster has turned up trying to unravel the true events of what happened to Bailey, was it suicide or murder?
I did not know what to expect with this book! But I loved Brookes point of view throughout the story and how it changed from the past to the present interweaving the story so you could see a fuller picture. This book definitely made me feel as paranoid as Brooke felt! Prom Queen really made you feel like you were in a small town surrounded by people who suspected you of something horrible. It took me a few days to get into it but once I did I completely devoured it!! Definitely draws you in and makes you want to keep reading until you find out the truth! That ending was not was I expected at all! Thanks NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC.
I loved this book. This book is perfect for Fall. If you liked, I Know What you Did Last Summer, and Carrie, you will love this book. It had a few twists and turns that I wasn't expecting
Prom Queen is a twisted thriller told in alternating time frames of the past and present. It’s been twenty years since Brooke’s best friend, Bailey jumped in front of a train after falsely being crowned Prom Queen. Brooke is trying to get her mother’s house fixed and on the market so she can once again leave the town that caused her heartache and all the people who suspected her involvement in her best friend’s death. Hannah, a true crime podcaster as received a tip that Bailey’s death wasn’t a suicide. Dragging Brooke into her investigation, Hannah stirs up a hornet’s nest that leaves the women in danger while uncovering everyone’s secrets and unmasking a killer. Unpredictable and suspense filled all the way until the shocking whodunnit, this story enthralled me and demanded that I finish it all today. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from NetGalley
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this new book!
After Brooke returns to her hometown twenty years later, the mystery of her best friends death is brought to the surface again! She starts to receive threatening letters and we start to wonder how did Bailey really die?
This book was engaging from beginning to end. The pacing was good and we are constantly left wondering what happened all those years ago! This was definitely a great book..
I didn't get into this as much as the other books by this author that I have read. I think the prom queen element did not appeal to me.
All I can say is OH. MY. GOD.
I could not put this book down. I read the whole thing in two sittings (only putting it down because I had to sleep and work). It’s been a long time since a New Adult thriller had me in a grip like that. There were SO many twists. SO many suspects. I changed my mind on who committed the crime almost every chapter. The epilogue left my jaw on the floor. All I’m saying is there better be another book!!!
I liked this story a lot! Another classic who-done-it. This story alternates between Brooke's past and future - and tells the story of what really happened to her best friend Bailey - murder or suicide? Every time I thought I knew how it would end, there was a new revelation, a new suspect etc. This was fully of twists and I really enjoyed it. It was my first Laura Wolfe book and I will definitely read more. Fast paced story yet easy to follow!
Prom Queen.... It is a mind blowing story about Bailey who was found dead 20 years ago the day she was crowned the Prom Queen. And now twenty years later a Podcaster has arrived at the small town where Bailey lived to dwell a little more about the death, which the police have closed as Suicide
A new clue resurfaces around the same time Bailey's best friend Brooke gets back to town. Brooke is getting anonymous threats which links to the accident.
But why ?
The book is perfect for mystery and thriller book lovers.
#Dual Timeline
#Podcaster
#Has glimpses of YA to it.
It is twisted and reveals keep coming until the last page and an absolute page turner.
I would recommend this all the thriller and mystery lovers. You are into a delight.

Prom Queen is an entertaining thriller, perfect for those who like true crime without graphic violence and who like to have everything laid out clearly for them.
Brooke has returned to her home town after the death of her mother. The place has always been linked to bad memories as Brooke’s one-time best friend was found dead on prom night years earlier. At the time it was ruled as suicide, but there’s more than enough suggestion that Bailey might have been murdered.
From the outset we’re given clear details of who did what. The action flits between present and past, and we slowly get to learn about the key players. There’s no doubting that someone knows more than they’re letting on, but the actual reality was less of a surprise than it might have been.
The book kept me interested, until the end. The final twist seemed a step too far, and an attempt to shock for the sake of it. Still, the youngest has picked it up and seems to be enjoying it so far.
Thanks to NetGalley for giving me the chance to read and review this.
OMG......... what a great read. Twisty, Thrilling and so fun to read.
The main character is Brooke. Her best friend Bailey died 20 years ago on Prom night. Was it really suicide?
20 years later and Brooke is back in town to oversee redecorating her late mothers house.
Notes start to appear accusing Brook of being a liar and not everyone is happy to see Brook back.
She joins forces with Hannah, a podcaster who is investigating Baileys death.
I read in book in a day - it was fast paced, thrilling and the ending was just brilliant.
I am going to go and read all of Lauras others books now. I cant get enough.
Highty recommend this book.
thanks to Natgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.
4 stars.
When I read the synopsis of this book, I was intrigued. It gave me Pretty Little Liars vibes. My prom was 13 years ago, but the night is one that will always stick out in my mind. When reading this book about Brooke and the death of her best friend Bailey on prom night, I felt like I was there. When the question of whether it was an accident or a murder came about, it allowed me to play detective just like everyone else in the town. I feel like I suspected everyone at one point. When the truth came out I will admit I was truly shocked. Great read!! Highly recommended!
Synopsis (From Netgalley, the provider of the book to review)
*******************************************************
Bailey stood on the stage, her crown glittering under the high school lights as she blew kisses to those glaring beneath her. Despite the celebrations, something didn’t feel right. She wasn’t supposed to be prom queen, and someone would make her pay for it…
Twenty years ago, my best friend, Bailey, was found dead by the train tracks, half of our friendship locket missing from her pale neck. She never took that off. Officially, it was ruled a tragic accident – but I knew better. She’d been crowned prom queen only hours earlier, and someone’s jealousy had finally gotten to them.
Now I have been forced to return to my childhood home, to the small lakeside town, and the group of friends I grew up with. Back to the scene of the crime that ruined my life and stole my best friend away from me forever. I need a fresh slate, but I am seeing Bailey everywhere. A quick flash of her locket on a woman in a café surely can’t be a coincidence.
As I walk along the street, I avoid the suspicious stares of my former classmates. Everyone here thinks I had something to do with Bailey’s death. Sure, we did things we shouldn’t have as teenagers, but who didn’t? But when I start to hear noises in my house and receive threatening notes, I realize someone here never wanted me to come back, and they’ll do whatever it takes to keep me away…
Someone in this small town murdered my best friend the night she was crowned prom queen, and now they’re after me. We all have our secrets, but who would kill for them?
Don’t we all know some B from high school that we would have liked dead, to have killed or to have found the body of? (Okay, you may have had a different high school experience than I did!!!) Bailey did not deserve it, for sure, and a return to the hometown can be deadly it seems. (Some sensical thinking here: does it really matter if you were Prom Queen? It is really an invitation for teenage pregnancy, an over-inflated ego and a guarantee of a TikTok-worthy useless life………..)
A great mystery and a totally thrilling read – highly recommended!!

Engaging Suspense..
Who killed the Prom Queen? Ruled an accident many years ago, the death of Bailey shocked a small town. Now Brooke travels back and new secrets may well come to light. Relayed effectively in dual timeline format, the reader learns of the past and the present. An engaging tale of suspense, secrets, lies and misdirection and a plot populated with a well drawn cast of characters and twists and turns aplenty in a well imagined setting.
HOLY. MOLY. Prom Queen follows Brooke, who temporarily moved back to her small town where she went to high school to sell her mom’s house. Brooke’s best friend Bailey died on the night of their prom twenty years ago, supposedly by suicide off the local bridge. But was it really suicide?
You meet Brooke’s old friends - and enemies - as newly discovered bits and pieces of this old case is brought into question by a podcaster Hannah who is investigating Bailey’s death from an anonymous tip she got. Something terrible might have happened to Bailey, and Brooke isn’t sure if she can trust anyone in the town.
I found this book to be entertaining enough, I kept picking it back up because I wanted to see the story through, but unfortunately I found the writing pretty lackluster. It wasn’t bad at all, thank god, but I found myself zoning out at times because the writing style was very much “this happened, then this happened, she said this then he said that.” I loved the idea and the concept and the TWISTS at the end kept delivering, I was hooked in the last 10% there was no way I was going to put it down without finishing it!!! But overall, I found this to be very okay. Best believe though I’ll be checking out the author’s other works!
Thanks so much to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this arc copy of the e-book. The description sounded good on this book and there were so many 5 star reviews but I have to say half way through the book I thought to myself when is shit going to start happening. There was a murder at the beginning the prom Queen and there wasn't another one until 60%70 80 % of the way through the book .I gave it a 3. 2 and thats only because of the very ending I liked. But if your looking for a thriller packed full of thrills and kills this ain't it
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this arc in exchange for an honest review. If you love thrillers this is the book for you! Firstly trigger warning this book deals with the subject of suicide. The story is told by Brooke who is back in her old town 20 something years after the death of her best friend prom Queen Bailey but was it murder or suicide like the town thought. This book cleverly intertwines 2 timelines then and now to reveal the puzzle pieces. A cross between Carrie, Scream Queens and I know what you did last Summer this book kept me guessing right to the end. Full of twists and turns and secrets I would highly recommend!
