Prom Queen written by Laura Wolfe was INSANE!!!!!! THE TWISTS AND TURNS THIS BOOK HAD WERE JUST INCREDIBLE!!!!!!! Unfortunately, for me, the class of 2020 didn't get to have prom because of covid, I'd always dreamed of going to prom with a group of friends, wearing a sparkly dress, just having the time of our lives, but unfortunately that didn't get to happen for me. Instead I lived prom through this book, but with twists and turns. The prom queen "committed suicide", which everyone was told. The only minor issue I had with this book was the podcast, like I enjoy reading about someone having their own podcast, but not in every single book, if that makes any sense? I have never read a book written by Laura Wolfe before Prom Queen, but this book is at the top of my favorite thrillers list. Let me just add, the cover is so beautifully detailed. Prom Queen is a YA novel, but it doesn't focus on the drama part of a high school student, instead it focuses on the night of prom and a student dying. If you are looking for a good mystery/thriller that will keep you guessing, then look no further than Prom Queen written by Laura Wolfe. When I thought I had an answer, I was completely wrong with every single turning page.

THANK YOU TO NETGALLEY AND BOOKOUTURE FOR AN ARC OF THIS BOOK IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW!!!!!!

"Haven't you heard the story of Bailey Maddox, who jumped in front of a train just hours after she was crowned prom queen?"

Twenty years ago, Bailey Maddox was found dead by the train tracks. Bailey had be crowned prom queen just hours before she was found dead. Bailey wasn't supposed to be the prom queen and someone was going to make her pay for it. Bailey and Brooke were best friends, they had a friendship necklace with their initials painted in nail polish on the back of the locket. When Bailey was found dead, her half of the necklace was found further down the train tracks, Bailey never took that necklace off. Bailey's death was ruled an accident, but her best friend Brooke knew it wasn't an accident. Someone wanted Bailey dead, but who? Bailey's death was ruled as a suicide, but Bailey would have never committed suicide. Did Bailey really jump in front of train or was she pushed? When Bailey tried out for the cheer team and made the squad, she made a new group of friends, Brooke didn't like that because she felt like she was losing Bailey to a group of girls that were only using Bailey. Prom Queen is told in an alternating POV from then, the night of prom and leading up to Bailey's death, and now to finally find justice for Bailey Maddox.

Twenty years after the death of Bailey Maddox, Brooke Webber has finally returned to her childhood home. Brooke's mom has passed away and now she's cleaning out her mom's house to put on the market. Brooke hasn't been home since Bailey's dead because it always brings back painful memories. When Brooke returns to her childhood hometown, she sees flashes of Bailey everywhere, a flash of Bailey's locket on a woman in a cafe. That woman would be Hannah. Hannah has her own podcast, "All The Dark Corners". Hannah is in town trying to find answers to Bailey's death, but as she's asking questions, she's digging up dark secrets and bringing back painful memories for those who were there the night of Bailey's death. As Brooke starts appearing on Hannah's podcast, she keeps finding little white notes every place she goes. Does someone believe Brooke killed Bailey? Brooke and Bailey didn't do the smartest things when they were teenagers, but who hasn't? Why would they want Brooke to disappear? When I found out the ending, I was completely shocked. This book was a crazy ride and I loved every single minute of it.

One of the best thrillers I have ever read!! The story unfolded bit by bit until the very last page! I loved the cliff hanger at the end. Will check out other books by this author

This was an enjoyable read for me . Told both in the past leading up to the death of Bailey who had been crowned prom queen and in the present where her former friend Brooke has returned to her home town ! Good pace and a really good twist at the end , would recommend

This book was ok. I thought I’d like it a lot more than I actually did. I wanted it to be more thrilling.

Prom Queen by Laura Wolfe was another brilliant book from this author that was full of twists and turns throughout which is a brilliant twisted whodunnit, which was full of suspense, drama and lots of it!, that will have you guessing till the very end which was fast paced throughout.

I admittedly found it difficult to connect with Brooke in the beginning. I couldn't decide if I trusted her or not, particularly during the scenes set in the weeks running up to Bailey's death as their friendship became frayed.

But that ambiguity paid off because it added more suspicion to the story, and I had no idea who seemed the most likely to have been involved in Bailey's death, if anyone.

The double twist at the end was unexpected, and left things on a bit of a cliffhanger.

This one fell short for me to be completely honest. I’m not sure what it was about it but I had to force myself to finish it to review. I hate to leave bad reviews so I will say I think it’s my taste and others may truly enjoy this

There were so many times I thought I had figured it out but the final twist completely came out of nowhere! Fantastic plot twist and well developed characters. I love how it ended - hopefully there is something more int he works!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a chance to read an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Prom Queen by Laura Wolfe was released on October 9th, 2023.

Let's solve a murder. Podcast Vibes. Who Did It?
Prom Queen hits all of these and it does it well, but it just...didn't click for me. I don't know if it was the format or the POV or just the plot itself, but it took me so long to get through this book and I really don't think I retained much of anything from reading it. The ending was a twist, though, so that's fun.

I absolutely adore the podcast format of storytelling, however, I think that it is much better suited as an audiobook. I wish I had listened to this book instead - I think it would have gained a little bit higher of a rating from me if I had.

Brooke and Bailey were best friends until Bailey joined the cheerleading team which started a chain of evenets that led to her apparent suicide. Twenty years later, Brooke returns to her hometown and finds Bailey's missing necklace. Was Bailey murdered and who kept her necklace hidden for so long...?
Prom Queen is a dual timeline psychological thriller showing us the past and present experience of Brooke as she adjusts to the change to her friendship followed by the mystery surrounding Bailey's death.
Brooke returns home to renovate then sell her late mother's house. She meet true crime podcaster Hannah who is wearing a familiar necklace. It belonged to Brooke former best friend Bailey who died on prom night 20 years ago. Hannah doesn't believe that Bailey's death was an accident or suicide so calls on Brooke to help her investigate with a view to finding a killer.
The book is written from Brooke's first person perspective in the past and present. The chapters from the past create suspects and suspicion which Brooke follows up in the present day. I felt desperately sad for the best friends as they split but remain neighbours. I'm sure that almost everyone will have gone through teen friendship angst so will be able to identify with Brooke and Bailey.
There is plenty of mystery as Brooke joins in with the investigation to support the podcast. I suspected eveeryone and had no idea about the truth behind Bailey's death. Brooke receives anonymous notes that add to the tension as someone thinks she is lying and this could place her in danger. I was not expecting the huge twist at the end!
Prom Queen is an intriguing mystery with a strong narrator.

Really good story, well written which keeps you guessing and frequently changes you mind on what you think happened. It's well structured switching between the past and present but remains easy to follow with the plot flowing naturally. Some of the chapters are slightly longer than I usually like, but overall a really good read.

I'm not a huge fan of psychological thriller but the blurb attracted me and I was on the edge till the end which was a huge surprise.
Well plotted, fast paced and entertaining.
Recommended.

I won’t spoil anything but I did not see that coming. What the actual hail! I can’t wrap my head around the end of this. This author knows how to throw you off the trail that’s for sure.

From reading the description, I thought this book sounded intriguing and I wasn't disappointed! The range of characters and how they had changed over the 20 years was brilliant to read, they were all so well written that I could vividly picture them in my mind. The suspect in the story kept changing and I was not prepared for the ending at all. I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves a thriller with a twist.

Brooke has returned home to oversee renovations on her parents house before she and her brother sell the property. She's on a leave of absence from work. Recently divorced and her child is away.
Returning back to town is not easy. Twenty years ago her friend Bailey had died on the train tracks on the night she was made prom Queen. Their relationship was strained but did Bailey really take her own life?
Soon Brooke starts to feel under threat as she discovers a reporter is doing a series of podcasts on the events leading up to the night. Things are not helped by the discovery of a necklace Bailey was wearing at the time of her death.
This book is gripping. Fast paced and holds your attention. There's the odd twist thrown in too.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to see an ARC

Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC!

By the end of this book, I trusted no one. I suspected every character, including the main character, of murder. I was analyzing every detail. I LOVED the incorporated podcast element. It took a bit longer to get into than I expected, but once I did, I couldn't stop. The ending was a plot twist I never saw coming! However, I did think back about several tiny details throughout the book and realized how many hints were dropped. I would recommend it to YA readers who want some thrill and mystery.

Oh my goodness… this has gripped me from the very first page and been a book I haven’t wanted to put down. I was initially attracted by the tag line, but the minute I opened this one, it was a book I couldn’t put down.

Twenty years ago Bailey was murdered. Now Brooke is returning home. This is fast paced from page 1. I was pulled in and completely unable and unwilling to put this down.

I loved the now and then timelines, really gives you a sense of events. I definitely couldn’t predict where the author was going to take this one. I loved it though.

This is a book that had my heart pounding and my pulse racing. I was hooked and definitely didn’t want this one to end.

I’ve read a few books by this author. This is definitely my favourite so far. I’ve been hooked, caught up and fully invested. This book has left me craving more.

This is one I highly recommend to other readers.

💄 REVIEW💄

Title: Prom Queen
Author: Laura Wolfe
Rating: 4.75/5

I took a leap of faith with this book. It was way out of my comfort zone, and I'd never read any of Wolfe's books before. I couldn't have been more surprised by this book if I tried.

The MC was very flawed and realistic. She could at times be unlikeable (no character in the book was perfect or morally so, and she was an example of this). However, she needed to be that way to further the plot and make the story what it is, and I felt that it made the book so much better for her to be 3 dimensional and human.

The blurb promises a surprise twist ending and it was dead on (pun intended). The climax gripped me by the throat and wouldn't let go, even after I'd finished. What's more, the epilogue shocked me to no ends. All I can hope is that there will be a sequel to follow up on that in the future because I can't stop thinking about it!

Prom Queen by Laura Wolfe was an Arc that I was given on NetGalley. This was my first book that I have read by Laura Wolfe, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I sped through this book in one sitting, it was such a page turner! I highly recommend fans of 'A Good Girl's Guide to Murder' to read this book if they are looking for something similar. I cannot wait to read more of Laura Wolfe's novels.
