Wow what a book! Love this author, will read anything by her. And this book! Could not put it down. Absorbing and completely, wonderfully addictive. Loved. Loved. Loved.
5⭐️! Ummm hello this book was so good!
This gave me serious I know what you did last summer, but without the gore! It also reminded me of a good girls guide to murder too. This book reminded me how much I hated high school, but in the best way in a thriller 😂 I don’t think this is technically a ya book, but I think it could pass for one! The gore and details were very minor.
I read this in basically one day. It kept me guessing the whole time and took the reader on a chase. While I did predict one of the first twists early on, the rest I did not! That epilogue though?!?!
I wish I read this sooner!
I wanted to enjoy this book, the storyline seemed so promising and then I started reading and quickly realized this was just not for me. I am over the whole podcast host who is trying to solve a mysterious death with absolutely no knowledge or factual information. The podcast host, Hannah, just annoyed from the time she was introduced. I did not sympathize or empathize with any of the characters. I did enjoy the flashbacks at times but felt like the story towards the end became incredibly predictable. I give this book a 2.5 rating but rounded up to a 3 for someone who will enjoy the podcast direction.
Horror is one of my favorite genres, The premise of the book sounded good, I didn't think I would love it as much as I did. Prom Queen takes us through the lives of different folks and we see how their past are intertwined.
This was a good read, especially the first half. I do feel like this book gave off young adult vibes.
I did like the dual timeline aspect of the book.
This book is available now, the twist/end is worth the read, I didn’t guess it at all.
Twenty years ago Brooke’s best friend Bailey died on the night she was crowned prom queen. Ruled a suicide, Brooke left town as she was blamed for not being a good enough friend to spot the signs. However, Brooke is adamant that Bailey was murdered, and now she is back in town she is determined to prove it. With a nosy podcaster nipping at her heels, can Brooke discover the truth?
I absolutely flew through this, and that isn’t easy with a newborn! Wolfe has crafted prose which flows easily and you soon get gripped by the story.
The narrarive flits between past and present, giving the reader ample opportunity to try and figure out who, if any, of those characters could have been the culprit.
Hannah the podcaster is ruthless in her investigation, and I was torn between annoyance at her blunt behaviour and enjoyment at her putting the pieces together for us!
I enjoyed Prom Queen, though felt it was also fairly run of the mill until the epilogue, which made my jaw drop! Never skip the epilogue people! This added a whole layer of shock to the story and made it stand out more in my mind amongst other thrillers I have read.
I was immediately hooked but at some point, it felt suffocating. At some moments I didn’t want to continue, or more like I needed a break. I didn't stop though. I finished it and let me tell you, my jaw dropped. Never once did I guess who killed her, because I suspected everyone. Didn't trust any of them. But the ending still shocked me.
Thanks, NetGalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this Arc, it was great.
I enjoyed this! It follows a pretty typical style but if it isn’t broken, don’t break it. The flash back and forward was effectively done. I didn’t actually figure out the twist - I was slightly taken in by one of the red herrings! A fun read
A rollercoaster of a Who Dun It..
Brookes best friend died after being crowned as prom queen. Now 20 years later she is back and it’s digging up old secrets.
This book is a fasted paced thriller where you don’t know who you can believe. You feel like every single person in town has something to hide.
This is my first by this author but I really enjoyed her writing. She doesn’t make the book too wordy but you can still picture the scenes around this small town.
Each character is so different and easily remembered through out the book.
I love how we are not only going through this in the present 20 years later but also getting chapters from 2003 and teenage Brooke.
Thank you Bookoutoure and NetGalley the chance to read and review a copy of Prom Queen.
This should have been a 5 star read, it had all the ingredients but for the first half of the book it just fell short. There was no sense of urgency, none of the tension that has you racing through the chapters because you just have to find out what happens next. Where the author redeemed herself and saved this book from being merely average was in the twists that she seamlessly wove into the story during the last few chapters. It was like being on a rollercoaster, no sooner had you recovered from one shock than another one reared its head and took you by surprise. Then just when I thought I was on level ground along came the epilogue. Really clever writing.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.
I received an early copy of this book to review. I’d describe it as a coming of age thriller with true crime vibes. A great young adult read.
20 years ago, hours after being crowned Prom Queen, Bailey died from jumping off a bridge. Ruled as suicide at the time but not all locals believed this ruling.
With her best friend, Brooke from that time visiting town and a true crime podcaster arriving to look at the case, will the question finally be answered…..
Did she jump or was she pushed?
I liked the dual timeline aspect of this book. I also suspected most characters at some point which evidences good writing in itself.
I didn’t warm to Brooke for some reason and as I said before, the style of writing I feel is aimed at young adults.
This book is out now and was worth the read just for the twist at the end 😱😂
I was obsessed with this book I couldn't put it down, I haven't felt this obsessed since I read Daisy Jones earlier this year.
I was on the edge of my seat trying to see where this book was going, just when I thought I knew how it was going to end I was surprised that I was totally wrong. If you enjoy reading thrillers I would definitely recommend this read. I really hope there is a follow up to this smashing read as I would love to see how to story goes next.
This book wasn't quite what I expected. The pace was just too slow for the genre, though the ending felt rushed. For readers looking for a bit of a spooky read for the Halloween season, this may fit the bill.
Vibes: Mystery. Puzzle pieces. Train tracks. Murder in a small town. Whodunit. Prom night 2003.
My review:
This is a new-to-me author. I was in the mood for something different that wasn’t what I’d typically read, and O.M.G, I loved this!
Brooke and Bailey were inseparable - they were neighbors, went to the same school, did the same activities…until Bailey started hanging with a new crowd. The author captures how friends can start to drift apart when you’re teenagers: you join activities, you start to make new friends, and then your old friends just don’t cut it anymore so you jump on the Bully Train and start teasing them with your new friends. We’ve all seen it happen, and the author takes us back and forth between 2003 and present to where we see the drifting start, to where it ends up, and gives a very accurate depiction of what happens.
You don’t get the story at once, which I loved. You get the end result (Bailey’s death), and then you slowly get how her death goes from suicide to murder within close to 400 pages. I loved reading every second of this, and there were times my heart was racing because I NEEDED to know things. I even stayed up late a few times to finish a few chapters.
My fellow readers, this was very good and I recommend to all who like a good mystery. This was not gory or smutty, it was just a mystery, and that was exactly what I needed in this moment.
Working on my review for my insta! @chuckreadsbooks, and it will be out this week. But I enjoyed this. Some parts felt slow to me, but anytime I felt it lagging it picked back up, and I couldn’t put it down. but I think this was a great YA thriller. It was a easy read, and wasn’t super outlandish like some can be.
I will be reading other stuff from this -“author.
This book was really fun and fast passed. I really liked the small town setting of the story and the small town mystery. I really enjoyed the podcast aspect of the story it was pretty cool and adds a little extra . The mysteries and twists and turns kept me at the edge of my seat the whole book. There was so much back and forth in the story but the author did an awesome job and it wasn't confusing and helped the story line a lot. This was my first book by Laura but I will be looking for more because I really enjoyed her writing style.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture a copy of this book!.
True Crime podcaster Hannah Mead has arrived and is investigating the death of Bailey Maddox. The Prom Queen who died on the night she was crowned. Her body was found on the train tacks and many have been left to question if it was suicide or murder. Hannah Mead is questioning the classmates of Bailey including Bailey's best friend, Brooke. Brooke who has always found the circumstances peculiar also seeks the truth and finds herself teaming up with Hannah despite her reservations.
It's been twenty years since Bailey's died and as the secrets and lies unravel more twists and turns appear. Be prepared to find yourself as an outsider looking in on the days the characters roamed the halls and high school students and watching everything unfold in "real" time.
Prom Queen is a fantastic read! The characters are well developed and entertaining. I'd love to see this book made into a streaming tv series and you will too!

BLOG TOUR REVIEW
Review for 'Prom Queen' by Laura Wolfe.
Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Laura Wolfe, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous
Publication date 9th October 2023.
This is the fifth book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'The In-Laws', 'Her Best Friends Lie', 'The Girl Before Me' and 'We Live Next Door' and I would highly recommend them all!!
This novel consists of a prologue, 51 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is fantastically written with vivid descriptions that absolutely grip the readers attention and puts them right in the middle of it all feeling the hair raise on your arms and feeling the sweat run down your back.
Another absolutely huge success by Laura!!! This book had me hook, line and sinker from the first page and I could not put it down!!! Every time I said one more chapter it ended on a cliffhanger and I just had to know what was going on!!! If you are going to read this then clear your day because it is truly unputdownable. I started this yesterday afternoon and finished it at approx 1am, read it in one sitting and although I'm knackered today it was 1000000% worth it!!! I loved that you got to meet such a a mix of personalities and so many suspects!!! It keeps you constantly guessing who did what!! It is filled with friendship, murder, romance, lies, secrets, twists, turns and everything you could want from a psychological thriller along with some MASSIVE BOMBSHELLS which will leave you absolutely shocked!!! I haven't read a book with a storyline like this one and I loved the podcasts throughout the story and the fact that you jist can't trust any of the characters so your guessing and changing your mind constantly. Laura's fantastic evocative skills brings the environment, characters and their emotions to life ensuring that the reader is feeling their heart pounding along with the characters. She ends the timelines together perfectly to drip feed the reader just the right amount of information to tell them what they need to know while not giving anything away. I for one was NOT expecting that at all so a huge well done to Laura!! After reading hundred of thrillers it is getting harder and harder to surprise me but she definitely threw a bombshell with this one!! This book would make a fantastic movie that I will be first in line to watch!!
It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture
All the characters were strong, well developed and realistic as well as each of them hiding their own secrets. Laura's fantastic evocative skills ensures they all come to life in front of the readers eyes. Unfortunately, I really can't say anything about them without giving anything away now that I know who did. However, this is one of those fantastic books that will have you questioning each and every one of the characters and leave you with no idea who is lying and who, if any, you can trust. One minute I was convinced how I felt about one character and then the next everything was flipped around leaving my head spinning!!! Regardless of how you feel about the characters they all played their parts perfectly to create this on the edge of your seat thriller from the fantastic author that is Laura Wolfe!!! Grab your copy now to meet them all yourself!!
I would love to see this turned into a movie and Laura I really hope you are working on your next psychological thriller at this moment because this book will go far!!! A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS on what promises to be a MASSIVE success!!! This is exactly why you are one of my favourite authors and here's to your next guaranteed success 🥂!!
Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read the prologue and first two chapters of Laura's 'The In-Laws' which is actually one I have already read and if you enjoyed this book then I can guarantee you will love that one too. I would highly recommend reading it!!!
Overall an absolutely heart racing, nail biting, unputdownable thriller with twists you will not see coming!!!
353 pages.
This book is just 99p to purchase on kindle, free with kindle unlimited and £8.99 in paperback (at time of review) via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Podcasts are my new hobby and when I saw that it is in the story, I went for it. I enjoyed reading this fast-paced story with a dual timeline and was invested in finding out what would happen. This is my first book by this author, and I will read her future ones too.
Prom Queen by Laura Wolfe
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a slow burner but I did enjoy it. An engrossing story line which switched between the present day and the past 👑💛
