I love Wendy Dranfield and the Madison Harper series. The books are incredibly tough, addictive reads that deal with some really difficult, heavy but important themes. Reading this one reminded me why I love reading these books so much, why they give me a book hangover and why I need some light relief in between!
This might be the best Wendy Dranfield book I've read. My head was absolutely mashed and I loved unpicking pieces of the puzzle at the same time as Madison and Nate did. You really feel like you are there, in Lost Creek, investigating these crimes and cases with the characters.
I loved the cold case aspect of this story in particular and although it was dark and devastating, the excitement of it harked me back to the days of addictively watching Cold Case documentaries and tv series.
I found some parts of the story a little slow, but on reflection this added to my addiction and also showed the reality of this. In real life, DNA results don't come back in a few minutes, and complex cases don't get solved overnight, and I respect Wendy for really establishing the reality of that.
Ultimately, what makes these books so wonderful are the three dimensional characters that you want to return to, like Madison, Owen and Nate. None of them are perfect but they're all trying to do right by the community of Lost Creek, and I love the family dynamic their closeness brings to the story.
Overall, an unpredictable and unforgettable police procedural with extremely dark themes, so not always for the faint hearted!
Her Lonely Bones is book six int he Detective Madison Harper series that is written by Wendy Dranfield. I have not read the other books in the series, however the author does a great job in filling in Madison's story. I love how the author draws you into the story within the first few pages. This book was packed full of lots of mystery.
She is having a rough week. Her son, that she lost several years with is about to leave for college. She also catches a very gruesome case. A family who had just moved into a home is found brutally murdered. So much so, that they are unidentifiable. Harper and her team need to try and find out who they are. But they literally showed up and were killed the same day. No-one seems to know them. First look appears that this was a home invasion, but Madison thinks there is more then meets the eye. They also find out that there is a missing little girl.
Along the way, Harper has to deal with some of her past. She and PI friend, Nate have some unresolved issues. I loved Brody, his working but funny dog. I was on the edge of my seat reading.
Thank you to the author and publisher for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.
This was an exciting read that caught my attention and held on fast. The fact that nothing was known about the victims kept me turning page after page leaving me almost as desperate to learn their identities as Madison and the other detectives. This was a clever move on the part of the author because it ensured that I could not put the book down until I knew what was going on. Not a book to be read if you have to get up early the next day.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this book. She did it again!! Another incredible mystery of this series. This one handles a cold case and flashbacks that were pretty intense. It kept me guessing and flipping pages. Highly recommend!!
Thank you to Bookouture for my copy of this book via Netgalley. I love Detective Maddison Harper and have followed this series since the beginning. This is the 6th book in the series but you could read each book as a standalone.
This book switches between now and flashbacks to 15 years ago. This case is a very sick and twisted. As a new mother, this one really hit me. I found it a very shocking and heart-breaking story.
Wendy really knows how to create a suspense filled mystery. This story was fast paced and was rather baffling. Who is this family? Where did they come from?
and who would want to kill them? Wendy had me on the edge of my seat trying to guess the answers to these questions.
Wendy has done it again, a detective series that made me cry. When I found out the truth about this book I cried.
So much to unpack with this tale, Owen off to college, Madison adjusting to the fallout from the last book, Nate's restlessness and a missing child. There is nothing worse than that…well what about her entire family bludgeoned to death. It’s harrowing.
The case takes so many twists and turns and goes painstakingly slow as we deal in real time and the fact a little girl is missing makes things more upsetting.
His book also sets up the next one perfectly as we know what case we are going to be following.
I have been a huge fan of Wendy’s from the start. She captivates me with her writing, and boy does she go dark. I say it every time but this is her darkest work to date. She knows how to play on your fears and she amplifies them with a slow real-time pace. I’m surprised I have any nails left.
This is most definitely the Madison Harper series but Nate is forgotten, he has his demons and own story to tell but he is always linked to Madison. Never straying too far, but now his cold case is linked to her, just not in the way we thought imaginable.
What a book.
This is book 6 in the series. You can easily read it on its own. I just cant get enough of this series and will read anything this author writes. This one is also about her personal relationships.

✨My Thoughts✨
This is one of my favourite Detective Series ever and I couldn’t wait to delve into the pages and get my Madison & Nate fix!.
( And Brody)
We’re back in Lost Creek with another horrific crime for Madison and her team to solve along with Nate and Brody’s help.
This story has 2 timelines one from the past and one from the present, they’re both so shocking and mysterious that I really couldn’t guess what was happening or who the culprit was.
This really was an edge of your seat page turner that I couldn’t get enough off.
After everything that Madison and Nate have been through they deserves some happiness and this book finally made that happen!!.
I think this book and the first in the series are my favourites.
The Detective Madison Harper remains my favorite crime series thriller. I absolutely love the MCs, Madison and Nate and all the other characters including the magnificent radar dog, Brody. Their background stories have always appealed to me and I think this is one reason why this series continues to be so strong.
This installment began with a gruesome discovery. A whole family is murdered in their home. It’s as cold as it can get as the killer did not spare even the little twin boys. What first began as a search for a killer becomes more complex when it is covered that the family also had a daughter who is now nowhere to be found. The detectives began the race against time to find the daughter as they also search for the killer. Tensions get higher when the case is tied to a cold case.
This was quite a twisty read. I couldn’t guess the perp’s identity and the reveal was quite a shock. The coldness of the crime and the perp sent a chill down my spine. All in all, quite well written and every bit thrilling. Although this can be read as a standalone, the series is better enjoyed when read in order.
This was a PAGE TURNER! This is a book to get you out of your reading RUT! I was nervous going into this because I know that there were other books prior.. but I was able to read this just fine. This story absolutely sucked me in. I read it in ONE SITTING. Perfect for the spooky vibes of October. I plan to read more Wendy Dranfield novels!
LOVED LOVED LOVED!! This is book 6 in the detective Madison Harper series and it was SO WILD AND ADDICTIVE. I love all the characters and how Wendy Dranfield draws you in with the prologue and keeps you guessing until the very end! I’m was so very very happy that some of the characters FINALLY got their moment! I won’t give any spoilers but this is a fast paced crime thriller series that will keep you up all night long!
MARVELOUS addition to this wonderful series which I have faithfully read from the very beginning. Riveting
story line, well written & with great characters portrayed by Madison & Nate. Enjoyed fully & RECOMMEND highly this & the full series. Thanks to NetGalley & Bookouture for this arc in return for my honest review.
This is a really great thriller! It had some unexpected moments I didn't see coming and is very well done. An absolute page-turner I would recommend! Special Thank you to Wendy Dranfield, Bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me to read a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
Love love love! I can’t say enough good things about this book. I love this series and the growth the characters have had since book 1.
In this instalment Madison is called to the scene of a murder where all may not be as it seems - there also appears to be a child missing from the scene. Can Madison and Nate - whose own case leads him on the same trail as Madison solve the case and find the child before anyone else dies. So fast paced, it’s hard to put it down!
This was my first book in this series and I would definitely like to read more by this author. This can be read as a standalone, however. Madison is tasked with investigating the brutal deaths of twin boys and their mother and her boyfriend. The story goes back and forth between 15 years ago and now and everything is nicely figured out in the end. It was very shocking to finally learn the truth.
Her Lonely Bones by Wendy Dranfield is the sixth book in the brilliant Detective Madison Harper series and what a series this is. This is a series that just gets better and better. Every page I turn on my kindle is full of twists and turns that will have you gripped form the beginning full the very end.
Her Lonely Bones is Wendy's best book so far but then, all her books are a 5 star read.....They will not disappoint. Just brilliant!!!
I highly recommend this series.....
Big thank you to Netgalley and especially Bookouture for my ARC.
