I LOVE this series and I LOVE Dranfield’s writing!
Her Lonely Bones is book 6 in the Detective Madison Harper series by Wendy Dranfield. This is an incredibly gripping and intriguing crime thriller. It’s quite hard to pinpoint exactly what I enjoyed about it as it was just so addictive from beginning to end.
This was a gripping read, with an excellent storyline full of twists and turns that any crime fiction fans are going to love.
I like how she creates her characters. You actually start to feel a bond a with them along the way. Which is so nice in a series.
I loved being back in the company of Detective Madison Harper and her crew.
A solid book filled with tension and mystery with a fast-paced, heart-pounding, engrossing case and jaw dropping twist along the way!

Thank You NetGalley and Bookouture for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
Detective Madison Harper returns with a bang! And a little romance. As she and Nate finally get together. But before that can happen Madison has a doozy of a murder to solve and a son to say goodbye too.
As Owen is off to College in Arizona and after missing so many years of his life after being imprisoned for a murder Madison didn't commit she isn't ready to say goodbye.
Yet, she barely has time to dwell on that thought. Thanks to a family of four who have been bludgeoned, stabbed, and suffocated. And that's not all. As Madison soon realises there's a two-year-old girl missing.
But as the killer has gone to so much trouble to ensure none of the victims can be identified. How are they going to find this little girl?
And as the story brilliantly melds two timelines. Madison and the team desperately search for answers.
And Nate who is struggling after receiving some shocking news decides to take on a cold case of his own. That could have massive consequences for Madison and the team.
And with the most confounding crime and a killer I did not see coming. This was a cracking read that I genuinely couldn't put down and I honestly believe this series has got better and better. And I'm excited to see where this series goes next.
I'd one hundred percent recommend Her Lonely Bones to all. 😊
My first Detective Madison Harper book and woweeeee! Where have I been?
A fantastic plot, starting with the murder of a couple and their twin boys - no ID, no DNA matches on the database and their faces beaten beyond recognition. That in itself was a gut-punch of a start to the book, and then there were flashbacks to 15 years before, which gradually revealed their connection to the present-day case.
The characters in this story are really well written - Madison, Nate, Adams, Alex and Lena were the main stars of the story, with Kai, Dawn, Richard and all of the other locals adding layers of intrigue and creating a web of twisty behaviour for Madison and her team to unravel.
The pace is fast and intense, i devoured this gripping book and can't wait for the next one!
5⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Wendy Dranfield and Bookouture for an ARC in return for an honest review.
Madison Harper returns with another grueling case and adventure with Nate Monroe!
In a house, a couple along with two children are brutally murdered and their faces are beyond recognition. Madison is assigned to this case and it seemed that the family had moved into this house twenty four hours before they were being murdered. And while investigating the case, they find that another child is missing and Madison must find the murderer and the child before it is too late. Nate meanwhile gets a phone called from an inmate named Dennis who tells him that he wasn't responsible for Grace's disappearance. Grace is a child who disappeared fifteen years ago and Dennis was accused of her murder and sent to prison.
This was quite an unputdownable thriller! I haven't read a book that is as gripping and fast paced as this one and I feel this is one of the best books of all the Madison Harper series. I stayed up all night reading this book and I simply couldn't put the book down! There were twists and turns and also the fact that who the actual suspect was wasn't revealed until later in the book! And the ending was actually unexpected ending! I just liked Madison and Nate's chemistry with each other. I cannot wait to read more books of this series.
If you haven't read this book yet, check it out but started with Book 1 as some background past of Madison and Nate are shared in the later books so you will be able to catch up. Overall a solid five star rating!
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.
Detective Madison Harper book 6 and O.M.G. It's the best one so far! I made the mistake of starting this at bedtime and ended up reading into the early hours. There's so many twists and turns I'm sure I have whiplash! Brilliant book and I absolutely loved it.
When a couple and their young twin boys are discovered brutally murdered in their beds, everyone suspects this is a home invasion gone tragically wrong. But as Detective Madison Harper walks into the run-down house that is eerily empty, she isn’t so sure.
Talking to the neighbors, Madison soon discovers that the family only recently moved to the small town of Lost Creek, Colorado. No one has met them, and no one knows their names. With nothing to identify them in the house, or even to show that the house belonged to them, Madison is suddenly faced with not only having to find a cold-blooded killer, but needing to identify the victims too.
Rounded up from 4.5
Wow, I can't believe we're on book six of this fantastic series! It feels like just yesterday that I started reading it.
As usual, Her Lonely Bones is an absolutely gripping story which takes you on a real emotional journey throughout.
Poor Madison is really going through it in this novel. Her son is going off to college, which means she feels like she's losing him all over again. She's going through an estrangement from long-time friend Nate after events in the last book. Then there's her new partner who she's having a difficult time warming to. She's tasked with investigating the gruesome murder of a family, including two young boys. The family doesn't seem to have an identification, but even more worryingly; the family had a little girl, and she's missing.
There were plenty of twists and turns through the novel, which kept me guessing, so I didn't guess who the killer was until we neared the end of the book.
I can't recommend this series enough, especially if you love police procedurals!
This is the first book I've read in this series, and while it absolutely worked as a standalone, as soon as I finished I went on Amazon and bought the first book!
Madison has her work cut out for her when a family is found murdered just a day after moving into their new home. The violence of the crimes screams that this is personal, and when they realize that a member of the family a baby girl is missing the race is on to figure out who the killer is and hopefully find the little girl alive.
This book was a rollercoaster of a ride. There are twists and turns around every corner, the case itself is emotional, especially once they figure out its connection to a case from the past.
I was hooked from the first page and read it in one sitting. I can't wait to read this series from the beginning and see how it all started!
This is book six of the Detective Madison Harper series and we are back in Lost Creek once more. A family are found murdered in a run down house. The parents are so badly beaten it’s impossible to identify them. There’s no car but there is a trailer which still contains some of their removal items, indicating there is another child
- a little girl - who is missing. When questioned, the neighbours don’t appear to have seen anything untoward. With little to go on, Madison knows she’s dealing with a really tough case, and it doesn’t help that she now has a new partner who is not as thorough as she would like.
The story pulled me in immediately and I was soon immersed in not only the case, but the on-going story of Madison’s personal life. The plot is beautifully interwoven and the pace never lets up. There’s a knife edge finale too. The author has created an amazing series, with believable characters and gripping storylines that stay in the memory long after you've reached the end. Highly recommended.
I would like to thank Bookouture, Wendy Dranfield and Netgalley for an ARC of Her Lonely Bones in exchange for an honest review.
This is a great crime thriller.
Madison is called when a family is found dead in an old house. The adults are unrecognisable due to their faces being beaten badly and they have no idea who they are.
There’s also chapters from the past where a young girl is missing and the person charged with her murder says he’s innocent. He contacts Nate and asks for his help and it seems there’s an overlap with Madison’s case.
They soon realise a young girl is missing from the murdered family but haven’t got a clue where she could be.
This is a gripping crime thriller with some great twists that I didn’t see coming.
I highly recommend this series.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

REVIEW
Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for this ARC. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

WOW! That was my expression when I found out who the culprit was. The author gave me the mother of Unexpected Twists. It was surprising, mysterious, deadly, and evil. I also loved the crime solving, it was amazing! The kind of crime thriller that takes you along while solving the crime. Nothing was rushed, and I enjoyed how our FMC, Madison, literally turned all of the stones involved in the case, it was perfect!

I also loved the perfect blend of Madison's personal life. I was able to be involved in her life without it overpowering the storyline. I also enjoyed learning about what about happened in the previous books .

I'd love to say more about the crimes, but I don't want to give spoilers. But this is the darkest of all crime thrillers
When Detective Madison Harper is called to the scene of a brutal murder, she immediately knows she has her work cut out for her with this one. An entire family has been slaughtered, a mother, father and two boys. Whoever killed the mom and dad did so with a lot of rage. It appears that it is a robbery gone wrong, but Madison does not believe that is the case. Her worst fears are realized when she finds a box with a little girl's shirt that reads "Daddy's Girl". Now they not only have a murder to solve, but a child is missing. There is no identification in the home to identify the victims. The vehicle is missing, so they cannot run the vehicle registration. So, they have a missing child of indeterminate age with no clue as to what she looks like or anything else. This was a convoluted, complex mess that some predator has left behind. This predator has met his/her match with Madison Harper because this woman is like a dog with a bone. She is fearless and determined to identify this family and find this young girl alive and well.
The story went back and forth between 15 years ago and the present. You will find that today's tragedy is not the only tragedy to occur in this household. As the gap lessens from 15 years to the present, the mystery just continues to deepen. I have never read a book with so many twists. This book exhausted me, but it also enthralled me. Wendy Dranfield is a genius as you are pulled into story grasping at straws while trying to figure out exactly what happened. Shock and awe will grip you as the end nears and the hits just keep coming. Wow! I need a breather after running this marathon. I was officially hooked from the first few chapters thinking I was so smart and had it all figured out, only to be fooled again. Five stars are insufficient for this rating, but will have to do.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
What an amazing police detective/mystery! Detective Madison Harper is the lead investigator on a crime involving the murder of a young family. But this murder is not as simple as it seems. Nate is a close friend of Madison, and with his PI skills, along with his trained dog Brody, they help Madison along the way working through the victims, the suspects, and al of the clues. There are so many layers to the characters, including Madison’s college age son, Owen, as well as other police offices and the many neighbors in the small town of Lost Creek.
This book was a quick read, with lots of turns, that kept my interest.
This is my first book from the Madison Harper series. Beginning with book 6, was not a problem at all, although I will be going back for books 1-5! Such an enjoyable book!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC, This is my honest review.
SO GOOD! What a great addition to the Madison Harper series. Finished in just a few hours and can't wait for the next one.
Thank you #netgalley and #bookouture for the eARC.
*5 Stars*
Copy kindly recevied via NetGalley for an honest review.
This was a really interesting read, with a lot of twists and turns as to who the killer was. It pointed to alot of people, but Madison never gave up. Great characters. The ending was both happy and sad. Would recommend and want to continue this series.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my advance copy of Her Lonely Bones by Wendy Dranfield
This is the sixth book in the Detective Madison Harper Series.
When a family is found dead Madison and her team are called in.
The husband his wife and young twin sons have been mercilessly killed.
But no one knows who they are or where they came from and then they realise there was a daughter, only about two years old and she’s missing.
The race is on to find the missing child but the twists keep coming.
A really great story with so many different threads, it keeps you glued to the page.
Gah!!! This one wiped me out by putting me through the wringer!
I actually wailed in chapter 8 when I thought Nate was going to do something and I was very disappointed, like Brody, in what he reverted to doing.
However, I was whooping for joy in a subsequent chapter at a rapid turn of events and even yelled Freaking finally!!!!
The story has many layers and wow are there some truly vile characters. Brody is still my favorite and Owen slipped many rungs on my approval ladder. What he did to Madison was truly shitty.
I appreciated Dranfield’s note at the end of the book with one assurance, but I have no idea what the next book will bring.
I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Her Lonely Bones’, the sixth in the Detective Madison Harper series written by Wendy Dranfield, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
A couple and their twin sons are found brutally murdered the day after moving into an empty run-down house but it isn’t until Detective Madison Harper examines their belongings that she realises their daughter aged around 2-3 years is missing. Madison finally identifies the bodies and the investigation becomes more desperate as she realises that unless the girl is discovered soon there’s every chance she won’t be found alive.
‘Her Lonely Bones’ is a gripping fast-paced thriller that’s had me completely hooked and unable to stop reading. It’s fast-paced, enthralling, and with an abundance of drama, suspense and twists and turns it has all the ingredients needed to make it a thriller not to be missed. Despite this being the first I’ve read in the series I don’t feel I’ve missed out on any of Madison’s background but I now want to read the previous five to catch up. I’ve been thoroughly involved in the story from the first page to the last and although there are some chilling moments it’s been thoroughly entertaining with a great ending. I’m hoping that there’ll be another book in the series and I can find out more about Madison, Nate and his dog Brody.
Utterly spectacular, the pace and twists and turns of this one held me truly captivated. I’ve read previous books in the series and thoroughly enjoyed them and I certainly wasn’t disappointed by this one. There is just the right level of interest and investment into the Police characters to feel you know and love them but not in overdrive so as to distract from the storyline.
The main premise of the story is breathtakingly shocking, a man and woman are found gruesomely bludgeoned to death in a property and even more shockingly twin boys are found murdered there too. The answers as to who they are and why they’re in a near empty house it’s very few possessions are revealed very slowly, keeping us waiting, in the main to the end. The sense of evil and shock factor is immense as the tale unravels. There is a tantalising amount of suspense and numerous surprises on the journey. I had quite an emotional investment by the end and was very much drawn in, excellent writing, can’t wait for more!
Madison is one of my all time favourite detectives. I am not sure I can really explain why, but she is so real, vulnerable, and likable, and even though she has gone through hell, she still lives her best life, but right now is not the best of times, because her son is about to move away. This is very hard, sort of losing him again.
She has an interesting case going on, a puzzling one, with several dead people, and one missing child. Nate gets news, good in a way, bad in other ways, but makes him think about life, and he is about to change his life even more.
Love the story, love the characters, and the character growth. This is such an interesting, haunting, and emotional book, a typical detective story in some ways, but very atypical in other ways. This really works!
The resolution to this story ends up being fairly simple, but we get there via a nice, chewy mystery. I also appreciate that the investigation seemed logical, as I can't stand when it feels like detectives are just treading water until the denouement.
