Her Lonely Bones, by Wendy Dranfield, is book 6 Detective Madison Harper series. This novel is the first one in this series that I have read. Her Lonely Bones is not really a stand alone novel. There are many references to earlier events and a shared history, which is a problem for new readers. I do recommend that readers start at the beginning to fully grasp the history of Madison and Nate's lives. That history is referred to several times in Her Lonely Bones, but since it is not explained well, there is a lot of the back story that new readers, such as I am, will feel a bit lost.

The plot of Her Lonely Bones is situated mostly in contemporary time, but there are shifts back to an earlier crime that proves to be important to the current story. Dranfield does a good job with these time shifts, making sure that chapter titles and notes make clear the time, whether 15 years earlier or in contemporary time. The plot, itself, is well crafted until the ending, which felt a bit contrived and predictable, but the chapters dealing with the discovery of the crime are well done. The characters are interesting, as well.

Thank you to the author and to the publisher, Bookouture, for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. I did enjoy Her Lonely Bones and would recommend it, but I also recommend that readers begin with the first book in the series. Thank you to NetGalley for recommending this novel and author.

I am reading these out of order (by mistake and I now need to go back to the beginning as the author suggested in her afterword) . So bearing that in mind, it is quite a complicated book and makes you think and need to concentrate on the backstory - it does become clearer and it would definitely be clearer if you did it as you should have.

It was a well written book which got me completely engrossed and I honestly not until the end knew who the culprit was and for me that is a sign of a great book.

I was given a copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.

Thank you to NetGalley , Bookouture & the author for an ARC of this book.

Book six of my favourite series - following the life of Madison Harper, her son Owen and her friend Nate and his dog Brody! I recommend you read the series from the beginning to keep upto date with the full goings on in madisons world.

This book kicks off with a flashback from 15 years ago and a missing toddler, we then come to the present day where a couple and their two sons have been brutally murdered in their home. All our favourite characters are in the story and it is definitely a must read. I hope we will be treated to more in this series

This is book 6 of the series and is an interesting addition to Madison and Nate's stories. The mystery is complicated and tied to a crime 15 years before. Likeable characters with hard back stories as they both are adjusting to being falsely imprisoned before. Not necessary to read all the books but they are all good so........

Wow! Get ready for twists and turns a plenty and action that will keep you guessing right until the last page! I didn’t feel like I could put this book down, reading into the early hours of the morning, thinking I’ll just finish the next chapter, but then there was another cliffhanger I just had to keep reading!

This is book six in the series and really doesn’t disappoint! As all the other books in the series, this is well written and the characters are really well developed. The more I read of both Madison and Nate, the more I like them and want their futures to be so much better than their pasts!

I really enjoyed how this was slightly different in its approach, Madison and Nate not so close as they were, each taking on their own cases, but of course their paths have to cross at some point. Their cases are cleverly linked, bringing them back together, in work, maybe more?

I don’t want to give anything more away, this one will keep you guessing, you may work out some things along the way but it’s written in such a way that you won’t be able to guess all the suprises hidden amongst the pages!
It was just what I was hoping for when I started this title. Looking forward to another instalment 🤞

Another fantastic book in the series. Love the characters, the setting, and a fast paced storyline that kept me on the edge of the seat. Brilliant as usual, more please.

Her Lonely Bones (Detective Madison Harper Book 6) by Wendy Dranfield is a gripping novel.

When a couple and their young twin boys are discovered brutally murdered in their beds, everyone suspects this is a home invasion gone tragically wrong. But as Detective Madison Harper walks into the run-down house that is eerily empty, she isn’t so sure.

The story is a thrilling mystery with credible characters and an atmospheric locale. It's so good to be back with Madison and her crew. I love the author's descriptions of the setting, which makes me feel like I'm right there with them during all the action.

As the premise states, the story is twist-packed and is perfect for fans of Lisa Regan, Melinda Leigh, and Kendra Elliot.

Another great installment to the series. I would highly recommend this book, this author, and this series. The stories are solid and enjoyable to read, never a dull moment, and always a good twist or ending to keep you satisfied.

"Her Lonely Bones" by Wendy Dranfield is a gripping and suspenseful thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Detective Madison Harper is a strong and compelling character, and the mystery surrounding the murdered family and the missing girl is masterfully woven. Dranfield skilfully blends tension, emotion, and unexpected twists into a tightly written narrative. As the pieces of the puzzle come together, the story becomes increasingly chilling and riveting. With its well-drawn characters and a plot that keeps you guessing, this book is a must-read for fans of psychological thrillers.

Detective Madison Harper has a true mystery on her hands. The discovery of a family murdered in a home seems to have no clues as to the perpetrator. The man and woman are found with their heads bludgeoned to the point that there is nothing left of their face to be recognized. Their DNA and fingerprints are not in the system. Also found in the house is a young boy who appears to have been smothered. In surveying the grounds, Madison finds a fourth victim with a stab wound who dies despite her best efforts to save the boy. The family appears to have just moved into the abandoned home. The plot takes another sharp turn when a baby girl's clothes are found among the boxes in the moving trailer. Now there is a missing child along with the murders. Madison and her team are racing against time to find the little girl and solve the murders. Outside of work, Madison is struggling with her son's upcoming departure for college and her unresolved feelings for Nate. It's a great read, and I can't wait for the next book!

Another must-read for those like me who enjoyed the first five books in the series, this new story could work for a new reader too, but be aware that, as good a job as the author did to avoid spoiling book 2's entire plot, there's a limit to what could be kept vague so some twists (including a few from other books too) will be ruined for you if you read this first. Anyway, your choice.
As usual, I was impressed by how well-woven the twisty story was, and how, even when I did guess something (which was probably supposed to happen), there was still plenty to find out that I hadn't expected at all. So, as usual too, I found the book really hard to put down and ended up reading "one more chapter" several times in a row.
Now there's something I'd love to mention but don't want to spoil for the other readers who have followed the series from the start, so... just read, you'll see what I mean!

The first time I have read this Author but was fine as a stand alone. I enjoyed the style of writing. A solid four star read. Great premise. Good characters. Page turner. Plenty of suspense to keep me guessing Would definitely read the next novel. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.

This series just keeps getting better and better! This one is pretty emotional, as it involves child victims and is pretty heartbreaking at times. Detective Madison Harper is working on the case of a family murdered in their home with no clues to their identity to be found. It appears they just moved in, which makes it even stranger that they could have been attacked so quickly. There are a few nearby neighbors, but their house is in a secluded area and no one saw a thing. Madison has an even harder time when her partner, Detective Adams, drops the ball multiple times at the crime scene leading to late discoveries that turn the case on its head.

Thank goodness her team has the assistance of her close PI friend, Nate, and his faithful canine companion, Brody! Brody is such a sweetheart and I love how the author acknowledges that he’s the one character nothing bad will ever happen to! If they thought the case was getting complicated before, his actions lead them to rethink the way they’ve approached their entire investigation. Parts of the story are told in the present and other parts are a flashback to fifteen years ago. Because the past is catching up with someone. But will Madison be able to bring about justice without becoming the next victim?

This is one story where I definitely didn’t empathize with certain characters and their fate. Evil people deserve what they get. I don’t think anyone would disagree when they read about the heinous crimes committed. On a lighter note, I was pleasantly surprised by some other action going on… This is one book you can’t miss!

Although I hadn’t read the previous novels in this series, I didn’t feel that detracted from this novel as you are given enough background knowledge about what has happened before. I found this novel to be a gripping thriller as Detective Madison Harper and her team try to solve the murder of a family who have been brutally murdered. Not only do they need to identify the killer but also the victims. A great police procedural that will keep you booked to the end. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.

If I could give this 10 stars I would.

HOLY GUACAMOLE!

This book was FANTASTIC, absolutely bananas. It was such a twisted plot. Dark, full of mayhem, secrets and so many plot twists…I have whiplash. I had an idea of how it was going to go for a part of it but man I was still gobsmacked with it all. And I don’t do spoilers but I will say this…FINALLY‼️

I’m a huge fan of crime thrillers. My favorite author is Lisa Regan. I gotta say this author for me is right up there. She is a master story teller. I tried so hard to read this slow because I knew I was going to be sad to be done. Like Lisa’s books. I could not put it down. I had to finish. This series is a must read.

I found this book to be as enjoyable as the previous ones I've read in the series. The plot was different, with plenty of suspects to make it harder to guess. At times it was a little sad, but I kept turning the pages to find out what happened to a certain character. I'm invested in the main characters as they are easy to like and believable. I think it could be read as standalone as there's enough background included, without being overdone, but I'm waiting (impatiently) for the next book so I can continue the series. A book I'd highly recommend.

Absolutely loved this book. I usually read historical fiction, but I do like mystery/thrillers as well and when I read one like this it reminds me that I need to read more. This is book 6 in a series and I will definitely be going back to read the first 5 books and hope there is more to come. Obviously something happened to Madison in the past (which you would know if you’d read the previous books) and her partner, Mike, and her friend, Nate, but you don’t need to know about that to enjoy this story. There were twists and turns everywhere and by the end I was so confused about who I thought the killer was. You’ll never guess the surprises contained within these pages and you won’t want to put it down because you’ll want to find out more. I’m very much looking forward to reading more about Madison’s story.

What can you say about a book by this author? I don't have to think long and hard about to answer that question. They are, each and every one of them, gemstones. They are amazing, suspenseful, filled with heartbreak and with characters you love at first sight like Madison, Nate and Brodi of course and baddies you hate with all your heart.

There are people who seem to have a heart of stone, but some don't seem to have a heart at all. OMG the things they are capable of without the slightest bit of remorse is beyond words.

I had a lot of Oh Noooo moments, but there was also an Oh Yesss! moment. There were moments when I held my breath and moments I smiled.

The author really knows how to keep your attention. I was dreading the thought that at one point I would finish the book and would be forced to wait a few months for my next dose of Madison and Nate. 5 stars

Thank you
