A brilliant read and one I really enjoyed. The characters are loveable. The plot is one that is engaging and I found myself completely drawn into the story and enjoyed the writing style.
This is a beautiful book and it is so amazing, the story is so lovely and very enjoyable to read. i loved everything about this book and i would recommend to anyone who loves reading to give this book a go. it is a lovely book and i will read other books from this author.
I tried to finish this book several times but alas I did not. I kept seeing so much potential but not enough to pick it up the next day. I saw a happy ending coming but moving from one character's perspective to another kept throwing me off.
Christmas Wishes at the Lakeside Cottage by Erin Green was a great read. The blended Carmichael family rent out a cottage for the usual family gathering, a special birthday and a wedding. Plenty of characters to get your head around but this didn’t complicate things for me it was easy to navigate who was who. Plenty of family drama, romance and revelations what more do you need in a great book.
I want to alert readers to the type of book this is. While I didn't read all of it, I did want to comment on it. If you are from England or the British Isles and understand their colloquialisms, you will love this book and think you are back there. But for me, I don't understand all the language. You can garner the meaning from the context. But, for me, that slows my reading time down. I'm sure this book would be worth the effort if I only had a few books to read. However, my TBR stack is very tall.
A Christmas wedding, what can go wrong ?
Lowrys mum is about to marry into the Carmichael family as the 4th wife and is about to meet the extended family.
The ex wives and children are all going to be there as they have all stayed close and have gathered for the Boxing Day wedding along with Martha who has worked for the family for many years and is almost one of the family
Will the wedding go without a hitch ?
A good read but I did find some parts slightly confusing as there so many characters
Although this is a second visit to the Lakeside this book can be read as a standalone. I did find the number of characters & the dynamics between them rather confusing at times & difficult to follow. However, I did enjoy book and it held my interest from beginning to end.
A quirky novel, not sure how much I have taken to it. The characters are very mixed and I like them. But as the story line goes, unable to decide where this leads and if it’s for me?
#ChristmasWishesattheLakesideCottage #NetGalleyThis was a different type of Christmas story that was interesting to read. The complex and convoluted relationships within the Carmichael family were a bit confusing at times - no wonder Lowry wasn't sure what her mother was into. An easy read once you figure out the
(not entirely plausible) relationships! I liked the fact that Lowry worked for the RSPCA and lived in Pendlebury, which is close to my home town!
Wow, what a whirlwind of a book! Whilst this was a good read, I don’t think it was really for me. There were quite a few different characters and at times I found it a little confusing. However it was an interesting read, just not something I’d usually go for
A few days after finishing reading this and my head is still spinning. I'm not sure I've read about a more complicated and surprising set of family dynamics ever.
There is so many connections and interconnections between all the Carmichael gang, that it's amazing how easy the story is to follow, once you have the basics sorted in your mind.
The fact that Lowry is only just meeting everyone for the first time, helps as a storytelling device to let her and the reader to get to know everyone.
What did take my by surprise mainly cos I rarely read blurbs is that I was expecting this to be related to Summer Dreams at Lakeside Cottage, and can now safely say they are two very standalone stories, with no connection other than the setting.
Featuring a massive blended family, a birthday, Christmas and a wedding, in addition to almost as many ex-wives to rival Henry VIII, and an adorable cat with kittens - there is a lot going on this story. And it was a pleasure to read it.
I really felt for Lowry as coming into this family, to watch her mother marry Rupert, can't be easy, and her first encounter with her new step-father to be doesn't really go according to plan.
There are secrets galore within this family and I loved discovering each and every one of them.
It was a very enjoyable story to read, set once again in a fabulous location.
Thank you to Headline and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
This is a very enjoyable and unusual Christmas novel. It has a large cast of characters, the extended Carmichael family, and chapters are narrated by different people. There is romance, but not the predictable sort. The Christmas theme is strong throughout, and I definitely recommend this book. I have read many of Erin Green’s works, and this one doesn’t disappoint.
this is the second book in the series but can be read as a standalone. this time the Carmichael's are at lakeside cottage, sweet Christmas story.
I absolutely love this authors books and reading them is like being wrapped in a comforting hug. It felt good to be back at lakeside cottage again and getting to know its latest inhabitants.
Although this is the second book in the lakeside series it could be read as a standalone as the story is separate from the previous one
Loved how the characters came to life on the page and how the author has written about different family dynamics and the role each person played in this blended family.
Loved the descriptions of the setting and the Christmas feel of the book although this was so much more than just a festive read.
Look forward to seeing who the next inhabitants of lakeside cottage are and their story.
I don't know... I found it hard to care about many of the characters in this story. It seemed to be written more for shock value than anything. The patriarch of the Carmichael family, Rupert, has had four kids with four wives, and they have all gathered together as he prepares to marry for the fifth time. Two of his ex-wives are sisters, making those sons both cousins and brothers. And the family ties just continue to get more convoluted as the story goes on.
Rupert's childhood friend has "consoled" each of the ex-wives after their initial breakup with Rupert. But now Gunner Jeffreys has taken it a step too far and gotten Rupert's daughter pregnant.
It's no wonder that Lowry is a bit confused and repulsed by the Carmichael's behaviour! Especially since her mother is marrying into the family.
Overall, I felt the story was a bit of a train wreck and spent most of the time trying to figure out how I was supposed to feel about things. If you like stories about people behaving badly, you may enjoy this one, but it wasn't my cup of tea...
This book is the second book in the Lakeside Cottage series. It can definitely be read as a standalone novel though as it has the same holiday cottage as the first book, but there is a completely new cast of characters.
There are a lot of characters in this book, with a complicated blended family. Learning about who everyone was, and their relationship with each other was confusing and difficult to follow. I think that this was intentional though, so you could relate to the characters who were meeting for the first time.
There were lots of family dramas, comedy moments and secrets. Overall this was an enjoyable read.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC.
Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for a review.
Wow, what a family! It is way too complicated to explain but you soon get used to the family dynamics.. A family wedding and Christmas celebrations in this Lakeside cottage make for an interesting festive tale.
Who doesn't love a book with Christmas in the title. This is the second in the series about the Lakeside Cottage. This time it deals with the Carmichael family. The story is told from the viewpoint of an ex- wife, soon to be step-daughter and the Carmichael long term employee. A large "blended" family with plenty of drama, revelations and romance in the mix.
A lovely cosy Christmas book by Erin. Another one to add to your to be read books at Christmas. It's fun, festive and has a nice romance running throughout
Loved being back at Ladeside cottage again. Loved all the characters. The setting is fantastic and i want to stay there! Just a fab feel good story! Thank you Net galley
