Okay, so I almost didn’t finish this book. Not because it was horrible, but because it was kind of slow and I did not like Mallory.
Starts us with Mallory picking up and waiting for her husband Jake to get off work. He isn’t there and the story tells about what she does to find him with the help of their best friends. There’s some twists and turns and some secrets come to fruition as Mallory tries to find her husband.
I did not like any of the characters, except maybe their friend Craig. I tried to like Mallory, but she was annoying. And I didn’t like Jake whatsoever. The plot was okay, but it seemed a little jumbled and a lot going on. I think the ending could’ve been different.
Overall I didn’t think it was a bad book. The writing itself was good in my opinion. And once it got going it wasn’t hard to read.
Another brilliant thriller that I just couldn't put down. I loved solving the mystery and finding out of I was right at the end. I love this authors writing style. I just couldn't put the book down it was that good!
Where Is My Husband is a page-turner of a mystery/thriller!
In the beginning, we are introduced to Mallory, an anxious character that is completely head over heels in love with her husband, Jake. But when Mallory goes to pick up her husband after work one day, he’s not there. In fact, he has disappeared completely.
As she goes through the motions of trying to find her husband, with the help of friends and family, more is uncovered about their seemingly perfect relationship. The plot thickens and twists in all the right places, making it difficult to put the book down.
The writer successfully shows how domestic problems can blur the line between a healthy and unhealthy relationship, and how people rationalize them.
The book takes us on an intense psychological journey, uncovering secret after secret and lie after lie.
Bring on Book 2!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.
This story is a lukewarm domestic thriller about a woman who marries a guy who she felt was honest and open, despite the abusive garden of manipulation and abuse in which he grew up in (and learned from).
Unfortunately, it turns this woman's new husband learned the art of manipulation, blaming others, physical abuse and addiction all too well.
All of us begin as a blank slate with just a sprinkle of uniqueness and personality (if we are lucky). However, as studies have repeatedly proven, but people (historically women) repeatedly REFUSE to believe - that kids grow into adults who typically mirror the dramas and the relationships that they had daily front row seats to as children. Where else would they learn how to treat their spouse as an adult? It isn't as though most people spend years in "relationship school" after all.
People who chronically prove themselves as untrustworthy, nasty people really ARE untrustworthy, nasty people, thoroughly and completely.
I am a Criminal Justice student, and I will never forget a class on Domestic Violence where a specialist gave a lecture where she stated she had attempted to change hundreds of abusers and addicts throughout her career and they hardly EVER change, period! It is who they are, inherently and wholly.
In this story, the lying addict of a husband had been engaged no less than THREE other times, but those women saw hints to their future spouse's personality (and they had the self-esteem to dump the fool) as soon as he started showing his "true colors" however, he finally makes it down the matrimonial aisle with a poor woman who has poor judgement skills, and, as can be expected, he repeats the patterns of manipulation, use, mistrust and abuse that his father taught him to emulate on a daily basis...
SURPRISE! We all have to learn how to treat others from SOMEONE, and treating a mate with either respect or as an enemy is learned by parental example.
The mystery is, what will the woman do when she discovers her husband is just another manipulative LOSER who is incapable of mature and honest spousal interactions? Unfortunately, the tale told within the pages of this book is one that is frequently replayed in our society.
Until next time, consider, dear readers, if you want your daughter to read this book and agree with the author's conclusion that "we all have problems", and end up settling in real life for a spouse who repeatedly shamelessly manipulates her, lies to her, threatens to kill her, and steals money time and time again from the family coffers only to throw every penny he ever touches on gambling,
Surely there are books with better lessons than this (for example, stories where women are empowered to recognize that they are worth so much more than tying their futures to lying theiving jerks).
Why is there no book cover on this book yet? This book was just ok. I found myself skimming through parts of it to get to the end. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release. To be published October 2023.
Where is my Husband?
Author: Ivanka Fear
The premise sucked me in, but, all in all, it was just okay. There were twists and turns with this thriller (some were predictable) but it felt like it was trying too hard to be a twisty mystery, which just made the plot go all over the place. None of the characters were likable, the flashbacks happened too often, and the ending left me going, “that’s it?”, especially when there were so many twists earlier in the story. There were also a ton of spelling and grammatical errors, especially in the last few chapters. Overall, I would rate this book 2.5 stars.
Thanks to Net Galley for providing this ARC for an honest review
I think I enjoyed this but it was seriously weird and kept changing direction.
It started out with a couple who were oh so much in love, almost sickeningly so, then he goes missing and she’s in turmoil. After that it all gets a bit strange and little secrets keep slipping out which change the whole direction of the story.
It felt a little disjointed, rather than twisty and exciting for me.
I also struggled to find any of the main four characters very likeable and they were increasingly less so as it progressed. Mallory in part was really shallow and fickle and the whole marriage was pretty questionable and messy, good luck with that.
I did keep interested enough to carry on until the end, but that was a bit of an anticlimax really. I’d probably still recommend it as a read and I did like the way heavier topics such as addiction were handled as this seemed believable and sensitively handled including the effects of family.
Thank you to Ivanka Fear and Netgalley for letting me have access to read this book prior to being published.
I would give this book a solid 3.5 star read, I have to say that I did get through it pretty quickly and personally I did not feel it was easily predictable but the reason I kind of took a bit away as far as rating was just because of how I felt about the main character Mallory, I personally found her a bit annoying, but that could just be me.
The great thing about this story is it had me thinking and lately I've been reading books along with a buddy and I was wishing I could have talked with her throughout the whole thing, so it would definitely be a great book to read as a book club or a buddy read, it'll have a lot to talk about and question, etc.
There was a few issues in the book with like doubling words, etc or something a simple editor would be able to catch but I also am unsure if it was just because I had it downloaded to my kindle of if this is actually not captured in the book, maybe its here before final edit is done? Mostly the last few chapters had a few errors.
DNF
I wanted to love this, but I finally gave up half way through. The main character and her thoughts are so confusing and hard to keep up with. The story goes back and forth from previous years it seems like every three paragraphs. It seems every one in the book knows some big secret that always ends up being "you know why" instead of getting to what the secret is.
I would still try another book by this author, but this particular book just did not do it for me.
I received this book for free from Netgalley.
This book grabbed me from the beginning and didn't let go.
It was full of twists.
Although I didn't find either Jake or Mallory very likeable, the book was very well written.
I would definitely read more by this author.
Sometimes I wonder if people who receive ARC copies of books through NetGalley are giving positive reviews in hopes of being allowed to read more books that haven’t been released as of yet. With that said I was approved to read “Where is my husband” by Ivanka Fear. The plot was great but OMG between the way the book was written(3 paragraphs then a memory in just about every chapter) to the way it seems as if someone from highschool wrote this book with such in depth dialog as “,”Arf, arf, arf” barked the dog Russ” this book is one of the worst written books I have ever read. The way it’s written reminds me of my writing assignments when I was taking creative writing in highschool….badly written. I wanted to jot finish this because it was so bad but had hopes of it getting better. Although it didn’t get better it got ridiculous, boarding on I’d rather have a tooth extracted then read about this stupid couple who apparently shared a combined IQ of 5. I give honest reviews and if I never get approved to read another ARC book again after this review then so be it.
Where is My Husband?
A Jake and Mallory Thriller
by Ivanka Fear
Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.
I did enjoy this book. I did not know it was a continuing series. Hence the ending was just not at all expected right for me. Both husband and wife were very much dysfunctional. I felt Mallary was too over the top. Not as if Jake wasn't a huge secret keeper. I did not care for either. But, without both, there would be no book.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC! The publication date is the 3rd October 2023. I really enjoyed this book it was a real page turner and kept me on the edge of my seat. Wow the ending… I didn’t see that coming!
My favourite character was Mallory I felt the characters were well written and the reason why I liked Mallory as I would always wonder what the next twist would be and what would happen next!
The books was full of suspense I had so many questions while reading it like: Where is Jake? Overall, a must read book with lots of twists and turns to keep you reading well into the night!
Thanks to netgalley, Ivanka Fear and Level best books to let me read this.
Where is my husband is a thriller/mystery that got you hooked right from the start. Its really easy to read, its lightweight with short chapters, which always is my favourites. This book had me completely until about 80% into the book. It was a fun read, but;
____ spoilers under ______
I found a lot of the twists very predictable, both of the characters was as moody as the Norwegian weather and it felt really rushed, and Î feel like the ending really made no sense at all.
“Where Is My Husband” is a thriller/mystery by Ivanka Fear. I wasn’t sure what I was getting with this book, to be quite honest. The subtitle is “A Jake and Mallory Thriller” so I wasn’t sure if this was part of a series - possibly the first book, maybe the final? But, willing to give it a try - I read it. If you’re okay with unreliable characters, dual timelines, misinformation (or maybe hidden information?) and past/present stories this book may be up your alley. There were a number of characters to keep track of and at times it seemed that people were popping up to be red herrings, though in the end the storylines were tied up. For me, the cops in this book were beyond useless (avoiding a spoiler is hard, but suffice to say at one point I actually said aloud “And that’s not suspicious to anyone?”). This book could have been edited a bit - I think the last 12% of the book was unnecessary, it was kinda like you’ve ridden the last big hill of the roller coaster, why do we need any more little ones - we’re all thrilled out.
This was a really quick and easy read. I loved that the chapters jump from pov to pov and back through the timeline a bit but it's all done really cleanly so it never gets confusing or with the reader ending up lost. The characters ters were well written, if the absolute most annoying people on the planet. Like..... it takes a lot kf teeth gritting to not want to just shake Mallory half the time. I found the ending a bit disappointing but otherwise it was enjoyable. Just don't overthink it lol
I really enjoyed this book, it kept me guessing from the beginning till the end. The chapters were short and easy to get through. The only thing I wish was different was the ending, for EVERYTHING that the protagonist went through I thought the ending was dull and didn't match the rest of the book.... but everything else I enjoyed very much
Very juvenile. Armature writing. Every character said the main character's name far too often. Just not a good book.
What this book didn't have isn't worth having!
Everything and more from a mystery/thriller, Mallory drove me insane at times with her constant....did i do that, put that there? etc etc but eventually a lot of things made sense.
As for Jake's part his re-run through what was happening was so entertaining i found myself laughing.
A really good read that i highly recommend.
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
Easy 5 stars.
Good book! This book had a bit of everything! It had suspense, Action, intrigue, mystery, revenge, murder, abuse, kidnapping, great plot twist, some crazy characters, and some crazy twists and turns! The storyline was very interesting and kept me glued to my Kindle! I definitely recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me
