A fantastic story of where the Drover’s brother arrives for Christmas and the children are fascinated by the fact that they think their is something special happening.
A quick and easy Christmas read. The characters are a delightful bunch that kept me entertained. The drama, romance and cheekiness made it gripping.
his was a quick, fun, and magical read. It felt a little bit familiar, and then I realised that it is the sequel to Fraser’s The Drover Comes Home for Christmas which was published in Our Country Christmas in 2018, and which I am now keen to reread.
I really liked Lizzie, and Mr Nicholas was a really fun character (I love a jolly, friendly, is he the real for real Santa? character in a cosy romance). I liked the mix of glimpses of what life would really have been like in a little town like Munyup with some proper Christmas magic. I thought the plot moved along well for the length of the story, and I would certainly be keen to read more about the characters we meet in the town.
While this is technically a sequel I don’t think you need the previous story to understand what is going on here, although you might want to! I also don’t think the order in which you read them is important.
I think The Drover’s Brother Comes for Christmas is definitely worth a look if you’re after some historical fiction flavoured Christmas magic, and it gives a good taste for Fraser’s writing if you’re looking for an author with a good backlist of Australian historical fiction to get into.
Thanks to NetGalley and Escape Publishing for the chance to read this book.
This story is a quick read filled with Christmas magic, new beginnings, and a touch of drama.
I really enjoyed the strange idea of Mr Nicholas and his cheeky Elf in the 1890s setting in Outback NSW. It's fun to imagine the mischief they create together. The brothers clearing the air and Lizzie getting a real chance at love are happy moments in the book.
I hadn't read the story preceding this one but will be reading it soon. I hope there will be another story featuring the third brother. It'll be great to read more of Elf's antics!
I love reading books by Darry Fraser and this one didn't disappoint. I love the Australian-ness of her books, I can picture the places where they are set and the are so real to me. Christmas in the Australian bush. Fantastic.
This one is also a quick little novella and I just whizzed through it in no time at all. Set in 1890, this is a cute, magical, cute and entertaining. I love the characters (some of who I know from a previous book), the era and the setting. This is a great Christmas read and one I highly recommend will make you fell good, warm and fuzzy if I must say!
Thank you NetGalley and Escape Publishing For giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
Are you looking for a short Christmas read, set in the Australian bush, in 1890 then this magical story is one to pick up I met the Miller family in a previous book by Darry Fraser and now Mack Miller has returned home just in time for Christmas, let the adventure begin.
Lizzie works in her father’s store in Munyup single mum to six year old Alice, who desperately wants a father, it is just about Christmas time everyone seems on edge and then strange Mr. Nicholas arrives in town with his offside Alf, or Elf or Elvin pick whatever name and strange things start to happen.
Mack has returned to sort things out with his brother Shep, Mack has lost people close to him and is deciding on what he wants in the future, he meets Lizzie and Alice in the store and Alice has decided that Mack would make a great father.
When trouble arrives in town and Alice is snatched Mack steps up and saves the day but will he win Lizzie’s heart as well and make Alice’s wish come true in the most magical time of the year?
A lovely story filled with magic and happiness, one that I do highly recommend.
My thanks to Netgalley and Escape Publisher for my copy to read and review,
The drover - Shep Miller - hadn't seen his brother Mackenzie (Mack) for years, but there was something about this Christmas coming up that would bring change to the small town of Munyup. Lizzie Naylor lived for her six year old daughter Alice, and while they resided above the store Lizzie's father owned, her life was alright. She longed to move out of her father's home, but until she could afford it, at least they had a roof over their heads.
It was 1890 and Alice was excited, along with her friend Bridget (Bidge), about Christmas coming. The girls knew when Elf was about - and when Mr Nicholas arrived in town, their excitement went up several notches. Shep and his new wife Jenny, along with Bidge and Ellery, worked the farm, went to school and met with the locals. But when Elf made a dreadful mistake, and a stranger came to town, trouble erupted with ripples of terror going through the town...
The Drover's Brother Comes for Christmas by Aussie author Darry Fraser is a heartwarming story with some Christmas magic inserted into the lives of the Munyup folks. Mr Nicholas was a happy-go-lucky chap, always willing to help people in need. Elven Dust was a mischievous person, making more mistakes than was healthy. An enjoyable Christmas novella, I have no hesitation in recommending The Drover's Brother Comes for Christmas for some light and enjoyable entertainment.
With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.
The Drover Comes Home For Christmas is a sweet, magical tale.
The characters are likable, relatable and the story is fun. It is a heartwarming way to get ready for the Christmas season (that is coming around way to fast!)
Darry Fraser takes us back to 19th century Australia, and I love it every time she takes me there.
