🦩 “Pink flamingos make me sick.” 🦩
Don’t you just love when a book hooks you from the first line. Peril in Pink by @sydneyleighmystery makes you want to drop your weekend plans and head to a B & B, minus the murder part of course.
Jess has opened up a chic B & B in the gorgeous Hudson Valley and will stop at nothing to protect its reputation when a sudden murder occurs. It doesn’t help that the murder is connected to her sort of famous singer ex-boyfriend, Lars Armstrong. I had a lot of fun and enjoyed this one!
Read this if you love a small-town charm, cringe worthy, Nancy Drew-esque, cozy mystery vibe.

I just finished this one and loved it
Lived the descriptions of the B&B and the characters. Bob was easy to hate and Nicky was creepy! Didn't know for sure who did it until Jess figured it out
If you loved Finlay Donovan and Stepanie Plum, be sure and check this one out!
What a fun, quick read.
I was hooked by the cover and the title and it did not disappoint.
I do read mostly thrillers but this book appealed to me and I enjoyed the lighter, humorous mystery.
The writing was great and the characters were fun. I felt like I was in the story as I was reading.
I will definitely read more from this author.
Perfect for readers who love cozy, small town mysteries, but would prefer younger characters and appreciate the social media references. Jess has just completely rejuvenated her grandmother's old boardinghouse, transforming it into an Instagram-worthy, five star experience, with a total pink theme. On opening weekend, her ex, now a famous recording artist, agrees to perform, which will put her opening over the top. Everything is looking good, until the ex is found murdered, and Jess must get to the bottom of it. This is fun and lighthearted, with great characters. I hope this turns into a series.
I really tried. Didn't give up and finished but this one just didn't appeal to me. Maybe if I watch Schitt's Creek then I may enjoy this book. I didn't get the characters and truthfully didn't much like them. Sorry. Thanks#Netgalley and #CrookedLaneBooks for the eARC in exchange for a honest review . All opinions are mine.
Had to DNF it.
It sounded interesting but I had to put the book down and realize it is not my cup of tea. I could not connect with the characters, and also how they talked bothered me. It felt too young. I also don't like when books try to name-drop fashion brands too much. I love B&B cozy mysteries, so I am sad I could not finish it. However, I am sure this book has an audience, and I just wasn't one of them.
This book reminded me of Schitts Creek meets Nancy Drew! This is a light, fun mystery with bits of good humor. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with this ARC copy!
read if you:
-enjoy only murders in the building
-loved white lotus (but want something lighter)
-love unique cast of characters
-can’t deny a glass of rosé
what a fun, cozy mystery! while i normally gravitate towards intense dark mysteries, there’s something so comforting about a mystery combined with humor and drama.
i loved the setting of Peril in Pink; think small-town b&b mixed with instagram worthy experiences and a wide cast of personalities. the author paints a really fun picture that’s easy to visualize. the writing easily immerses the reader into the b&b.
the murder mystery aspect was well done and kept me guessing until the end - lots of red herrings and an ending with good closure.
i will definitely read more from this author!
thank you to the author, NetGalley and crooked lane books for my ARC in exchange for a review!
I truly enjoyed this story! I loved the mystery, humor, suspense and unexpected twists. A lot of times I can figure things out ahead of time but a couple twists got me in this story!
I tried, I really tried with this one. I got about 10% in and had to reread it a few times before throwing in the towel. The characters lacked depth for me and felt it was a little ... blah.
Jess Byrne is preparing for the opening of her new B&B. Already Insta-famous due to some excellent press about the adorable decor and opening weekend concert by her ex-boyfriend reality tv show winning Lars Armstrong. Jess meets all of the new guests at check in including Lars and his step father turned manager Bob. The night starts going wrong as Lars fails to turn up for his set and even worse as Bob is found murdered. With Lars as the number one suspect and her B&B's reputation in jeopardy Jess starts to investigate the crime. There is no shortage of suspects and Jess may be in over her head.
I had a lot of fun with this book. I really like Jess as our lead character. The mystery had a nice number of layers and possible suspects. Having everyone in a B&B together heightened the drama. If this ends up being a series I will be in line to read the next one!
Opening day of The Pearl, the B&B Jess is opening with her BFF and having her brother running the bar, is a dream come true for all three of them. But when things don’t go perfect, thanks to the pasta coming back to haunt her, Jess and her BFF take on trying to fire out who killed their guest. Will their opening be their closing, or will they save the day and the B&B?
I wanted to try a cozy mystery, but I think this one was a little too cozy for me. The characters are one dimensional and over the top. The whole story is odd, especially because no one cares about the murder for half the book. I can see how it would appeal to someone who wants to read something lighthearted, but it wasn't the right book for me.
Imagine Schitt’s Creek meeting Only Murders in the Building, and you've got this fabulous debut mystery. It's got humor, intrigue, and a touch of star-studded glamour, all happening in the dreamy Hudson Valley. The story centers around the grand opening of The Pearl B&B, owned by the resourceful Jess Byrne.
But the fun takes a wild turn when Jess's ex-boyfriend, the famous reality singing sensation Lars Armstrong, rolls in with his stepdad and manager, Bob. The celebration turns sour as Bob winds up dead, and guess who's the prime suspect? Yep, Lars. To protect her B&B's image, Jess reluctantly agrees to help Lars clear his name, and that's when things get crazy.
As Jess digs into the investigation, she uncovers unexpected connections and jaw-dropping secrets. With the pressure rising and another murder happening with Lars nearby, Jess is way out of her depth. With her trusty best friend and business partner, Kat, she's on a mission to untangle the truth behind the murders and prove Lars's innocence.
This story mixes the cozy vibes of a small-town setting with the heart-pounding suspense of a murder mystery. Jess is a quirky and relatable main character, and the fact that a celebrity is involved adds extra spice. The locked-door mystery and the need to keep guests safe in the middle of a media frenzy amp up the tension.
All in all, this debut mystery serves up a blend of humor, suspense, and surprising twists. Jess's journey through murder investigations and B&B management makes for a captivating read that'll keep you guessing right till the end.
This was such a fun read!! Set on the opening weekend of the stylish, instagrammable Pearl B&B in the Hudson Valley, this murder mystery kept me hooked throughout. I liked the small-town setting of the book and the themes of homecoming and moving on that were woven throughout. The actual mystery kept me guessing and though I had various suspicions of “whodunnit”, I must admit that I was never entirely correct.
Within the book, the main character Jess is called “Nancy Drew” and responds that she prefers “Veronica Mars” - I definitely caught vibes of both of these fictional universes as I read. There were also hints of classic mysteries like “Murder on the Orient Express” in that by the end, pretty much everyone had a motive!
I do think some of the supporting characters - Jess’s business partner and BFF Kat, brother Nate and SIL Sarah could have been more developed, and I’d have loved to understand a bit more of the history between Jess and her musician ex Lars and past nemesis Britt… but omitting some of those details kept the pace up and made it harder to put down!
I’m not sure if there are more novels planned at the Pearl B&B, but I’d definitely pick them up.
This was a cute cozy mystery & it caught my attention right from the beginning. This book is about Jess, who has opened a B&B and on opening night someone is murdered. I'm usually pretty good at figuring out mystery/thrillers, but every time I felt like I knew who the suspect was the twist and turns of this book totally changed my mind. This book will definitely keep you guessing, which is always good in my book regarding mystery/thrillers. While there was some moments that made me cringe, I enjoyed reading Peril and Pink and would recommend this to everyone who loves cozy mysteries as much as I do.
Thank you to NetGalley for the arc.
i did realy like the begining of this book, but when i got to about 50% it startet to get a litlle slow.
but i did realy like the riding in the story and the carecters was also great.
I enjoyed reading this book, it was quick and easy to read. There was plenty of twists and turns too.
I struggled with this cozy mystery, I really wanted to love this book but I had trouble getting into it. The charcters didn't catch my interest and the mystery was okay. I'm not sure I will follow thus series or not. I might give the 2nd one a try.
Quick cozy read! I enjoyed the characters and the story line. I loved the small town feel and the unexpected twists and turns. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a quick read.
