Great pictures in this cookbook. I appreciate that because it makes the recipes more appealing. I pulled a few of these recipes to try and I'm looking forward to some Seriously, So Good recipes.
I think this cookbook would make a great hostess gift, there is a nice variety of recipe types and ingredients so it works for lots of different audiences. My three favorite recipes from the book all involve fish--the pistachio pesto salmon, coconut fish tacos with mango salsa, and coconut green curry. The restaurant remakes section is a fun addition which gives credit to dishes the author loves and respects. The dessert section was very fun, the flourless espresso brownies are a standout to me, but the cocktails section was a little underwhelming in terms of variety and novelty.
How on earth am I supposed to judge a cookbook when the sample includes no recipes?! Really bad marketing strategy guys.
Solid cookbook with lots of great recipes! Beautiful photography as well, and really approachable ideas.
This arc is only the first 30 pages of the book. The introduction and “staples of the kitchen” list include the food and the utensils, pots and pans. Lots of pictures of the author with food, but sadly no recipes. Good start, would love to see the finished product.
I appreciate the partial advanced review copy of Seriously, So Good by Carissa Stanton provided by the book's publisher. I was not able to look at any recipes but they sound delicious from their titles. The chapters on appetizers and cocktails are sizable in comparison to the more standard entree chapters. There is no chapter focusing on vegetables or vegetarian meals, but many of the recipes are gluten-free..
The recipes for meals are broken into sections focusing on quick meals, healthy entrees, restaurant copycats, and "Major Mains." After that comes an entire chapter on soup, followed by the aforementioned cocktails chapter and finally a desserts chapter. Yes, everything looks delicious from Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice (a restaurant copycat!) to Brown Brown-Lemon Halibut with Asparagus and Olive Oil Whipped Potatoes (a Major Main).
The recipes fit the young author's definition of a balanced life, which seems to correspond to her younger age where there might be fewer health consequences from a very buttery, creamy, carbalicious diet. As a middle-aged reader, the recipes in toto are not balanced for me, but they all look delicious and I'm especially interested in the restaurant copycat meals for my occasional moments of indulgence.
Fans of What Gaby Cooks and emerging cooks who want to host dinner parties and romantic dinners will find plenty here to enjoy!
The portion the publisher gave me to read was just the getting started bits. It does well looking at the tools and what you need to make the recipes. There were lots of colored pictures which I liked. But I didn't see any recipes so I cannot remark on those.
The arc only contained the first portion of the book, no recipes. So it's hard to review wholly based on that. The first section is great though, lots if helpful tips on how to set up kitchen staples in your pantry and fridge
I received an ARC from Netgalley for my honest review. The ARC only went to page 30 and up to that point, there were zero recipes. I do not feel like I can rate this book but I am required to give it a star rating. I would love to see the entire finished book so I can update my rating and review.
I think this is going to be a great cookbook, unfortunately this was just a preview and included no recipes. The preview was packed full of beautiful photos and thoughtfully laid out pages about pantry staples, and information about her favorite ingredients. I wish I would have been able to see a recipe or two in order to try - but the preview definitely left me wanting more.
Thank you to NetGalley & the Publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
I can't really rate this book based on the sample because it doesn't include any recipes for this recipe book. What I do see looks nice! It seems like a book I'd enjoy, but again it's hard to tell by the sample provided.
Miigweetch NetGalley and Simon Element for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
"Seriously, So Good" by Carissa Stanton, the culinary mind behind Brocc Your Body, falls short of its promise to deliver delicious, satisfying recipes that are good for your health, heart, and mind. While the author's Instagram account boasts an impressive following, for me, this cookbook fails to live up to the hype. Carissa's attempt to combine flavor and health in her recipes results in an uneven balance, leaving many dishes lacking any ‘wow’ factor.
Despite the book's promise of nourishing and approachable recipes, the execution often feels uninspired and doesn't fully deliver on the flavor-bomb concept. While Stanton's philosophy of enjoying food without strict dietary restrictions is commendable, the recipes in "Seriously, So Good" often miss the mark in terms of taste and innovation. The author's effort to create healthy yet enticing dishes is apparent, and a few recipes, like the Pan-Fried Brie with Pistachios and Rosemary Hot Honey, may pique your interest.
Given the lukewarm reception, I recommend borrowing "Seriously, So Good" from the library if you're curious to try a couple of recipes without committing to a purchase. While there are a few gems hidden within the pages, the overall value of the book doesn't justify adding it to your personal collection. Kudos to Carissa for her efforts, but this cookbook falls short of leaving a lasting impression in the world of culinary literature.
I received a sample of this book from Netgalley. This sample did not include any recipes but it did include a ton of useful information. Pantry, fridge, and freezer staples. Kitchen essentials like pots and pans, appliances, utensils, etc. She also gives reasons for needing all these things in the kitchen. The photographs included are beautiful and the food looks great! I'm excited to read the full copy when it comes out.
Seriously So Good by Carissa Stanton was my first introduction to Brocc Your Body but it made me a quick follower. This book is brimming with dinner ideas and colorful, inspiring photography.
The sampler showcased the beginning sections that detail the building blocks of what you need to successfully and consistently cook in your kitchen. I love that this book provides both inspiration and education but doesn’t feel so obvious about it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Simon Element for the ARC - Seriously So Good is out 4/16/24!
I thought it was going to have recipes in it, yet thre were none. Beautiful pictures of meals you won’t know how to make.
