I was initially drawn in because of the cover but the story was a huge let down. I was super excited that I was given an extra chance to read this story but ultimately this story was not good. It felt incredibly rushed and the story I felt needed to be flushed out. The dialogue was cringey and gave the vibe of a pick me and it was incredibly to get through. It was also incredibly hard to even read the story when they have property of web toon across every page.
Thank you to NetGalley and WEBTOON for an advanced ARC of this graphic novel!
This was the perfect graphic novel to kick off October and spooky season with. The illustrations are gorgeous and the story line was fun and entertaining. I loved the bits of humor throughout and I'm highly invested in this duo's newly founded friendship/partnership. I already can't wait for the second installment!

Concept sounded interesting, unfortunately the story is extremely predictable and by the book for the paranormal/supernatural detective genre. It doesn’t really do anything that different or new. The story also jumps ahead after Ellie accept’s Ichabod’s job offer so there’s no real scenes of Ellie and Ichabod getting to know each other and learn how to work together, Ellie telling her friend about her new job and coworker or even us properly learning about this supernatural world and how it coexists with the normal world. Already hints that there will eventually be a romance between Ellie and Ichabod but they don’t feel like they actually have gotten to know each other or even have interest in each other that way so it’s weird to allude to it.
Note for the publisher: your watermark marks it hard to read dialogue. It’s very bold and opaque so when it lands over the dialogue bubbles it obscures the words.
The story starts so ordinary with base colors, I was honestly disappointed. . . But when the story started to pick up I was all in! The art became so interesting. The story was exciting and spooky. A pretty cool book!

This graphic novel has been adapted from a Webtoon comic- I thought the premise was interesting: Ellie comes into supernatural powers and joins up with Ichabod, the pumpkin-headed paranormal investigator to solve cases. Unfortunately, the artwork and characters were bland and forgettable. Some of the mini-cases were intriguing, and I thought had some promise, plot-wise, but the book didn't really deliver. The dialogue is uninteresting, I couldn't tell you any personality traits of the main characters, there's no backstory on why the MC suddenly has powers, nor does she seem curious about how she got them. Overall, I don't think I'll remember much of what happened in this story or anything about the characters if you were to ask me about it a month from now, and probably in a year I'll look back on my goodreads and not even remember reading this.
Thanks to the author and NetGalley for the ARC!
This was such a fun graphic novel! It starts off on quite a funny note and just keeps getting better. I really like our protagonist and her partner, and am very interested in reading future volumes to see how she continues to grow into her new life.
This volume leaves off on a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to find out where it goes!
Down on her luck Ellie stumbles upon some paranormal activity and realizes she had powers and now is teamed up with pumpkin head Ichabod to solve some paranormal crime.
I thought this was a cool story with clean art. Some pop culture references that were clever and fun. The story gave Dirk Gently vibes to me so I was definitely into it and was hoping it would keep going. Definitely want the next volume please.
I do hope they explore Ellie’s powers-she definitely just accepts things and it didn’t feel all that natural.
Thanks to NetGalley and WEBTOON for an eARC.
I went into this graphic novel blind and found myself really loving it! It’s the perfect feel good graphic novel for spooky season. It follows Ellie who gets wrapped up in the supernatural world and her partner Icabod as they team up to help spirits, stop demons, and help newly transformed people.
I really liked the art work and the dialogue was punchy and funny. The only thing I wished for more of was more backstory and seeing Ellie come to grips with her powers! It felt a little rushed in my opinion but overall a quick and fun read
I tore through this graphic novel in one sitting. I love the inspiration the story went with bringing in some characters from other beloved stories like Alice in Wonderland, Ichabod Crane, mythology with demons, etc.
To me it reminded me a lot of my favorite show Supernatural with the hunting of various supernatural entities, some of the wittiness of the characters, and just the interesting storyline. I definitely love the relationship between Ichabod and Ellie (maybe friends to lovers, maybe just a strong partnership?? Who knows). And that ending?? I’m already hungry for me and cannot wait for the second book.
One note just for Webtoon’s with their ARC’s is to change the watermark a bit. Having it that bold over the pages made it hard to focus sometimes and hard to read some dialogue. I understand the need for it, but it’d be better if it was a bit fainter. Very grateful to be given the chance to read this though.
This was the perfect graphic novel to kick off October aka spooky season. I loved the art work and felt it fit the story line pretty well. I will say this graphic novel left me wanting a little bit more at times. This follows Ellie and her jack-o-lantern paranormal investigator friend. We go with them on multiple cases to investigate some type of haunting. I enjoyed the cases, just thought they were forced at a very rapid speed. I wanted more information on the cases/investigation. Otherwise pretty solid read.
A cute collection of adventures of two fun fantasy creatures. Perfect for spooky season and fun to see the beautiful illustrations. An unusual pair come together and I love how she gets trained to learn more about her true self and about the world around her. The cliffhanger grrr but it was a fun fast read.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review. The following opinions are my own.
I'll start with the positive, the art style is very cute. I'll give it that. Unfortunately I wasn't really into the story or the main character. I'm sure others will enjoy it though.
This was definitely what I was hoping for based on the cover and title. It's equal parts spooky and spoopy, creepy and cute.
Thank you netgalley for the e arc
Third Shift Society follows a woman name Ellie, who is down on her luck after losing her job and on the cusp of losing her apartment. When she accidentally witnesses a pumpkin man being assaulted by a monster, Ellie steps in to try to help, only to find out that she has supernatural powers. Together, she teams up with the pumpkin man to form the ultimate supernatural investigation team!
What I liked about this graphic novel was how fast paced it was. We jump straight into learning about Ellie and how she is down on her luck, then BAM! She is teamed up with the pumpkin man and ready to learn how to control her powers. We also get to see a couple of different paranormal mysteries they try to solve as a team, and meet some new friends along the way.
What I didn't love was that because this is an arc copy, there was text going across each page saying "don't copy". While I've seen this before, usually it is faded out text and you are able to see the illustrations underneath. Unfortunately these lines of text prevented me from being able to clearly read some of the dialogue between the characters.
The illustration in the graphic novel was really well done. The dark color palette gave me spooky vibes, which I think was perfect for this type of paranormal novel. I personally am not the biggest fan of the comic like drawing of the characters, but I think that would be pleasing to readers who are more into comics/superhero comics.
I think this graphic novel would be appealing to lovers of superhero comics, and paranormal/mystery type novels. I think it is a great start to a new series, but ended rather abruptly. I would consider reading the next volume should I come across it in the future.
3.5/5 stars
Thank you so much to netgalley and the publisher for providing an arc of this graphic novel in exchange for an honest review.
I was hooked from the start! This is a great start to a new mystery series and I can't wait to read more! Ellie is all of us discovering magic & a pumpkin headed man for the first time! I can't wait to see how Ellie & Ichabod uncover more about Alice and work to set things straight.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre: Fantasy comic
Main Concepts: The MC, Ellie gets fired from her job and tries several different occupations to find the right fit for her. She meets the other MC, Ichabod, and he offers her a gig as a paranormal investigator after she shows magical abilities. The comic then shows all sorts of paranormal jobs the two do. There’s another character that seems super sketch and is for sure involved in some crazy stuff that Ellie and Ichabod have to investigate.
Favorite scenes: The character develop of Ellie with her powers are all good scenes.
World building: Doesn’t delve too deep into a detailed world but this is a comic so you get the graphics. Basically just a human world mixed with all sorts of paranormal craziness that the humans aren’t aware of. Tue comic does a good job at introducing readers to new paranormal creatures and the lore behind them.
Spice level: zero romance in this comic but it’s cute without it.
Overall, this was a cute little paranormal webtoon that is a super easy read and gets you right in the spooky season spirit. I do really want the next comic now because the ending?! Like the cliffhanger has got me. I want to see what happens next. I really enjoyed this little world with Ellie and Ichabod. I’m excited to see more growth between the two characters. Ichabod is definitely a good influence on Ellie and has a lot to teach her. I don’t even mind the lack of romance in this webtoon. The only reason I’m not going full 5 ⭐️ is because some parts of the comic could have transitioned a bit better but that’s the only complaint I have.
Thank you Netgalley and author/creators for a copy of this arc in exchange for a honest review. I’m ready for the next one now!
This book is a fun idea that is just average in execution. It feels like a webtoon comic through and through, not in a good way. The beginning took me out, especially the whole job search and rent. I know it's not supposed to be realistic, but sometimes the little things bother you so much that it takes you out of it. For me, this was rent costing only $200 dollars and being able to get a job in so short a time to have serval before needed to pay rent. The art itself was nice, and I liked the character design. But the actual characters felt very surface-level and had no character development. I knew nothing about them. Overall just eh.
This is a strong first entry in a series - it has action, mystery, and thrills. Sometimes it felt a bit like reading an anime, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The art got a little wonky at times, but I'm sure it will only improve as the series goes on!
I wanted to like this book a lot more than I actually did. I was drawn in by the gorgeous cover, and unfortunately the story just didn’t live up to it. I found everything to be just too simple, but it did end on a cliffhanger, so I’ll probably read the second volume since I’m curious to see where the story goes.
I received this book in exchange for a honest review from NetGalley.
I absolutely loved this cute and fun webcomic that is now being made into a graphic novel. The writing is a little shakey at the beginning but gets better as the comic goes along. I love Ellie and Ichabod. Their adventures are fun and interesting.
