🤪 F R E A K Y 🍷 F R I D A Y review featuring “The Murder After the Night Before” by Katy Brent!

BOOK REVIEW: 🖤🖤🖤🖤/5

Molly Monroe wakes up with one hell of a hangover, some random man beside her and close to zero recollection of what happened the night before at her office Christmas party 🫠

Molly has also gone viral for a SHOCKING act caught on video while she was black out drunk. Now that the world is coming at her, Molly is desperate to piece her night back together! She needs a serious venting session with her best friend and roommate Posey … but then Molly finds her dead in the bathtub 🛁!!!!

Police deem Posey’s death as an accident and that she was heavily drinking and fell asleep in the bath. Leading up to her death, Posey was investigating the mysterious disappearance of a teenaged girl. Molly decides to take over the investigation and begins to uncover twisted secrets and lies. It becomes clear that SOMEONE did not want Posey poking around in the disappearance case … and that she was actually murdered after all!

I read this book in just three hours and could not put it down!! This witty murder mystery is fun, quirky and full of twists and turns! If you are a fan of The Flight Attendant or Killing Eve, then you will love it!

Thank you kindly to @but_katy_did_it @harpercollinsca @netgalley for my advanced digital copy in exchange for my honest review! This book releases on February 1, 2024!

Molly wakes up in her London flat with a horrible hangover, no memory of the night before and a stranger in her bed. She manages to haul herself to work only to be sent home again after learning that she is trending on social media for the worst possible reason. Later that same day, she discovers her best friend, Posey, is dead. The police think it's an accident but Molly is sure that it was murder. Molly has no choice but to deal with her shame and pull herself together so she can find out what actually happened to Posey.

The Murder After the Night Before is a well-written, fast-paced page-turner that I could not put down! I assumed from the cover that this would be a lighter read similar to the Finlay Donovan series but it covered some serious issues including grief, sexual assault, and social media toxicity narrated by Molly who has a dark sense of humour. Molly is an unforgettable character and the mystery is gripping - everyone is a suspect, nobody can be trusted and just when you think you have it figured out, there's a twist. This is Katy Brent's second novel and I have not yet read her debut but definitely will now!

Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins Canada for sending a digital copy of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

Molly Monroe wakes up with a terrible hangover, there's a stranger in her bed and she later finds out she's gone viral for a horrific reason. She has no recollection of the events of the night before, the one thing she does know is, her best friend Posey is dead and she knows it's murder even though the cops ruled it an accident. It's now her sole purpose to track the murderer down.

I binged The Murder After The Night Before, I loved it; it was hilarious. The story covers several heavy topics however, the author expertly throws in humor to help lighten the situation. It was a bit predictable at times but there were some twists that kept me on my toes. Molly's relatable as is her friendship with several of the characters. I enjoyed how Molly developed through the story and her investigation. Overall, I found it highly entertaining with several twists and turns and dark humor.

Huge thank you to Netgalley and HarperCollins for this ARC in exchange for a review.

Book is set to be published 2/29/2024.

Not only was How to Kill Men and Get Away With It the best title to read in public it was a thrilling novel so when I saw that Katy Brent had a new book I had to read it right away. And after the excitement of the first book, this one did not disappoint. It was engaging, modern, and gripping. Even when I thought it was looking like it might fall a bit flat, it quickly turned around and the ending.....you got me there. I can't wait to recommend this to my customers.

The Murder After the Night Before is like nothing I've ever read!

It's dark, funny, and suspenseful.

Molly did not want to go to her company Christmas party. She got very drunk and got caught doing an illicit act on video. It was shared on the internet and Molly didn't think her life could get any worse. That's until she discovers her roommate and best friend dead in her bathtub.

What follows next is a twisty tale that has Molly put the pieces together to prove to the police that her roommate was murdered.

This book had me constantly wanting more. It was impossible to put down.

I loved it so much, I'm not going to read Katy Brent's first book.

This was a first of my reading from this author, and I am absolutely in love with her writing. It was so incredibly well balanced, with humour, mystery, suspense, unpredictable yet realistic.. just so well rounded and thought out. I felt engaged from start to finish, which has seemed to be a rarity for me lately, and I can appreciate that!

The. Dark. Humour!!! So hard to do well, and so hard to find these days! But I am a true sucker for it! I will absolutely be purchasing a copy of this before it’s release in February, and I am excited to share it with others!

I was short of in a mini reading slump before picking up this book and, let me tell you, it took me right out of it. I devoured this book in one sitting. I keep comparing it to AGGGTM because it gives me the same feelings with the suspense of the MC carrying out a deeply entangled investigation and discovering a ton of secrets at the same time. I could not put it down and I enjoyed it so much. The ending really got me.
