This book was difficult for me to get into. I do plan to give this series more time in the future. Hoping he becomes a repeat read author.
This was a taut mystery and a great addition to the series. This police procedural weaves together complex plots into a masterful tapestry. I highly recommend.
Many thanks to Level Best Books and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I liked this book but I just couldn't get into the story. I didn't like the writing style but overall the story was good.
"A proverb slid through Chen's mind.
Xiao li cang dao.
A smile can conceal a dagger."
This is a story of layers.
Two detectives are investigating, to the best of their abilities. And both of them are very, very good.
So good, in fact, that their superiors are after them.
Layers of investigation. Layers of subterfuge.
And when their personal lives are on the line, well, things can happen.
Well written, twisty, and a quick read.
I enjoyed this book. Chen Yun works for the Chinese police on operation Fox Hunt which extradited Chinese citizens living overseas. He gets a mission in Pittsburgh which unintentionally gets mixed up with the people involved in a murder enquiry. The US detectives Vic, Liz and Craig are great characters. There are a couple of sub-plots which add interest. This is the first book I have read by this author so now have the previous books in the series to enjoy. I'd suggest reading them first as there are references to earlier incidents and people.
Quite a few times I've told authors they need better (read honest) friends in order to write better books. This author admits to having great friends, and it's apparent in the writing, storytelling and all the important details. Smooth and easy to read as well as excellent entertainment.
