☀️ The Bright Spot ☀️
“It makes you real. And real is my very favorite thing about you.”
Another delightful Jill Shalvis read! Her books are comfort reads for me. I always know what to expect - swoony, thoughtful MMC, hilarious banter, and flawed but real characters. She always manages to write characters who are working through things, but find what they need in partners and are loved as they are, without changing.
The Bright Spot is no different! Set on Apple Ridge Farm, run by the charming Luna, who rescues animals and collects people alike. She’s fighting to keep the place alive when the owner, who she didn’t realize was her grandfather, passes away and leaves her half the farm. The other half is left to Jameson, “a suit”, who swoops in to see the books and try to get the farm back in the black before the circling investors swoop in to close them down.
Jameson and Luna can’t fight their attraction to one another as they fight to save the place they both love. They find each other and the unwavering support of their found family at the farm.
A lighthearted, quick comfort read that I loved.

I received an ARC from Netgalley and Avon. My opinions are my down. The Bright Spot is on shelves January 16, 2024!
The Bright Spot is book 5 in the Sunrise Cove series by Jill Shalvis.
I’ve had the best time reading this series. And I’ve enjoyed every single book and characters in the Sunshine Cove series.
Each book follows a completely new set of characters but they’re all in the same town.
This book gave me all the cozy vibes I crave from small town romances.
A very sweet, and charming romance-family feel good book.
Getting to know the characters was a delightful experience.
Luna and Jameson are endearing characters and I adored every step of their journey.
In The Bright Spot, all of the characters are very interesting and believable, so much so that I felt as if I’ve known them for a long time.
They were fully drawn and entertaining. Once again, Ms. Shalvis pulled me into their lives effortlessly.
Between the endearing characters, the humor, and the heart, it’s a charming read.
There is so much heart in Jill’s writing that I was left with a huge smile on my face and my heart very happy. Jill Shalvis is the queen of writing heartfelt stories.
Thank You NetGalley and Avon for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
While being book #5 in the Sunrise Cove series this can definitely be read as a stand alone as the continuity of the series is only the setting. This novel focuses on Luna and Jameson - two lost souls finding out how to have a real relationship. The best thing of a Shalvis book is the relationships. Not just between the main 2 characters, but, between the secondary characters also. And boy there are a lot of secondary characters. This was really just a beautiful story of what it means to be a family. And where we find our true family.
The conflict arises with the farm that Luna runs and has inherited. It is bleeding money and Jameson is sent to try to save it. The banter between the characters (including the animals) make this a joyous story. I always know I will have a lovely reading experience when I pick up a Jill Shalvis book, and this one did not disappoint.
Thank you to Netgalley and Avon Books for the ARC.
Another great read by Jill Shalvis. The Bright Spot, the fifth book in the Sunrise Cove series, brings you a sweet (and some spice) romance between Luna and Jameson. One of the things I love the most about Jill Shalvis' books is that she always has THE BEST animals in her stories with such personalities that it's truly the icing on the cake. This book is no exception with all the rescue animals and especially Dammit Ziggy, the baby goat, and yes his name is really DAMMIT ZIGGY AKA DZ. You will fall in love with the animals, sweet and eccentric Stella (Luna's grandmother), Luna and Jameson and even her best friend Willow and her husband, Shayne. The characters are just that good. I highly recommend this book, this series and all of Jill Shalvis' other books.
Thank you Jill Shalvis, Avon and Harper Voyager, and Netgalley for this ARC!
Nobody write romance and humor like Jill Shalvis. An opposites attract story with romance, some heat, friendship, wit, family drama and of course animals, all together a perfect combination. I instantly fell in love with Jameson and Luna and the entire cast of characters at Apple Ridge Farm and need a DZ of my very own. Luna, adopted at birth never knew any of her real family, but that was about to change. I loved the dynamic of Luna's vivid personality and Jameson's more straight-laced ways and the sparks that occurred once they gave in to the inventible. Though this is part of Shalvis' Sunrise Cove series, this book can be read on it's own.
A delightful story about a band of misfit friends who become family. When Jameson arrives at the animal rescue farm Luna manages, at the bequest of her deceased boss, she finds it hard to see beyond his suit and loafers! He's a numbers man and she's a people person, but they learn to trust each other as they work towards a solution to their financial situation.
As usual, in a Shalvis book, you'll laugh and cry along with the characters as they chase true love and confirm the future of the Animal Rescue Farm.
Although I received a free ARC ebook from Net Galley and the publisher, all thoughts and opinions are the honest truth.
The Bright Spot is exactly that: an uplifting story that made my day that much better. I fell hard for Luna Wright and her crew of merry men and women and the way they happily glided through each week, tending to Apple Ridge Farm like the family they became. A group of misfits led by Luna and her stubborn yet easy-going ways. She is a wonder despite how her world suddenly changes as one Jameson Hayes becomes her equal partner in both running and owning the farm, shocking her with long-held secrets she tries hard to recover from. Even with all that is revealed that might allow Luna to stumble just a little bit, the love she has for the members of her team is what drives this remarkable book with her unexpected romance with Jameson the true cherry on top.
I simply cannot get enough of this storyline. Jill Shalvis' prose is addicting and heartwarming. She beautifully combines Luna's day-to-day as manager with the secondary storyline involving her bestie Willow, who is the farm's horticulturist extraordinaire, seamlessly. These two have each other's back even when at odds and this gives both women the strength to realize a future they might not have dreamed about but truly suits them perfectly.
There are plenty of plates in the air for Luna to handle and the ease with which she does is all the more reason Jameson changes his own immediate future, charmed by her determination and perhaps by some of the cutest farm animals anyone has ever seen. The fact that he and Luna share similar kinds of fears about getting too close to someone is definitely part of the attraction to one another imo. But overall, it's the way both work hard and how both need to bend a bit when it comes to the other in order to see that there is much more to life than what they've been given. That together, they are a force of nature and very simply, meant to be no matter how or why they came into each other's lives.
The backdrop of the farm provides sweet moments as this delightful group of hardworking people take care of their own whether it's the two or four-legged variety. Gram Stella is a huge highlight with her crafty ways and adorable texts to Luna that had me chuckling throughout this well-written book. But each character, even those who might not say much or those like Chef and his man Milo who see it all and aren't afraid to comment, add to the charm of this storyline. And that's what all of these incredible characters do: they charm the pants off of anyone lucky enough to be in their presence.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself from page 1 to the sweet epilogue that proves that it's never too late to find that someone who can truly see you for you. Jameson saw Luna right from the start and even with the information he held back from her regarding her former boss, I loved that he was able to form his own opinion of this struggling farm and find his new beginning that included the feisty manager forever by his side. And for Luna, her cool and calm demeanor was the perfect antidote to all the mayhem surrounding her crazy-good farm team, clearly deserving the love she found with her strictly by the numbers guy. A true dream come true indeed.
5 huge stars!

Sunrise Cove series has the warmest, loveliest people with the worst backgrounds ever. The books are completely standalones. I love the farm setting with the rescue animals and the various plants growing. Luna has created a group of misfits who are loved as family: her best friend and husband, her gay ex-boyfriend and his partner, her grandmother, and a bunch of others. Luna was adopted as a child and never fit in with her driven, doctor parents. She loves managing the farm for Silas.
Jameson has had no one to depend on since his father walked out when he was 5 and his mother died when he was 15. He tried to get a job with Silas and though he was too young, Silas took him under his wing and trained him in business. Jameson has done well with his numbers; they never lie to him.
Now Silas has died and Luna and Jameson are both going to learn things. As with many farms, this one is not profitable. Luna and Jameson are attracted to each other right away. It helps with their grief and also for them to work together to save the farm as Silas would have wanted. I love how they listened to each other, supported each other and figured out ways to make things work.
I was surprised by how little her adoptive parents were involved and that they never really connected with the wonderful circle of people at the farm. I wasn't surprised how the group of co-workers and friends came together to support Luna and the farm (ala George Bailey). Luna was really amazing at her work and her maturity in dealing with people even when others might be overcome by their emotions. I highly recommend this or any other Jill Shalvis book.
I totally loved this book as it came at a time when I was looking for a light read. Although the plot was very predictable, the characters were so fun and the setting described so well that I felt like I was right there with them. I have to say that my favorite character was probably Dammit Ziggy, just because of his name...well, and the fact that he was so snuggly and sweet. Perfect beach read. Definitely should be made into a Hallmark special.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Lots of interesting, complex characters. The animals were a nice addition. It would be fun to visit a place like it.
Ahhhh…
What can I say that I have not said after every Jill Shalvis book I read. For me reading a book by JS is a comfort. Like a cozy blanket…sometimes you get too hot and ya gotta stick your foot out from under the blankie 😉. Sometimes you gotta snuggle in and just sigh. Sometimes I’m slapping my knee at the wit. Every time I read one I get all the feels. It’s like coming home. I grabbed this because I needed a genre switch. I read a lot of dark books. It didn’t disappoint. And come on…baby goats!
Once again JS reminded me why I so enjoy opening a book by her. I recommend you go visit Sunrise Cove.
How can you not enjoy a book where the rooster is named Wyatt Chirp and the escape artist baby goat is named Dang It Ziggy, okay the name in the book is actually a swear word, but it's a hilarious name all the same. The story balances out the humor of all the antics of the rescue animals on the farm with the problems the characters have in their own lives. Luna is overwhelmed after she finds out she has not only inherited half of the farm she has been managing, but that the owner was actually her biological grandfather. Add Jameson coming to help save the farm from the balloon payment due soon in his suit and tie, as he has been willed the other half, and it becomes a dance of confusion and change. The staff at the farm offer a variety of quirky yet supportive friends/family for Luna and Jameson. There is a lot of depth tot he story as Luna and Jameson are searching for what they want out of life as is Luna's best friend Willow. As Jameson says, "No one should have to change who they are to be loved". Will figuring out who they are be enough to find happiness as well as save the farm?
Another great read by one of my favorite authors Jill Shalvis! I am truly enjoying the Sunset Cove series and really enjoyed the couple in this book, Luna and Jameson. Their back and forth feelings about each other kept their story interesting. I also enjoyed the supporting characters in this book too and felt i became invested in their story too. Another must read if you are looking to read a story that will just take you out of your reality and to a place you wished you lived.
Thank you to Netgalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for the ARC.
🌟🌟🌟🌟 4/5 stars
Another adorable romance from Queen Jill Shalvis. We return to Sunrise Cove and now get a romance set on the cutest farm. Luna Wright is the energetic and lovable manager of Apple Ridge Farm. When the owner unexpectedly dies, Luna finds out he left the struggling farm to her and his investment manager, Jameson. Luna and Jameson could not be more different, but may find that opposites attract.
This was the warmest romance full of spring vibes. I absolutely adored the setting and found it to be very dreamy. There is also a secondary romance that is just as swoony as Luna and Jameson’s. Another hit for Shalvis.
ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Need a quick getaway to a special place filled with quirky characters (2-legged and 4-legged) who are funny, loving, just the right amount of complicated? I‘ve got the place for you! Sunrise Cove where the stress and spice levels are low and the heartwarming level is high. I loved this latest in the series and highly recommend it! Releases 1/16, run, don't walk to your local bookstore to pick this one up!
Hello so to start thank you netgalley for the arc of this book. Ok so I just finished reading this book and I really enjoyed this one. So we basically follow Luna wright as she navigates the end and out of finding her biological father and keeping her Apple ridge farm afloat after Silas passes away. Favorite character is gottdam ziggi the 🐕 , the writing was excellent the story line is so heartwarming.
I love this story with its humor, quirky characters, and emotion. Luna and Jameson are so much alike. They both know what it is to be left behind. They just want to belong. Luna has found that at the farm she manages. When the owner, Silas, of the farm dies, Luna finds out that he was her grandfather. Why didn't he tell her? She thought she got the job because she earned it and now, she finds out that she got it because he was her grandfather. Jameson was taken in by Silas when he was a teenager. He owes so much to Silas and has made some promises. He never goes back on a promise. He also has some secrets. As Jameson and Luna grow closer, Jameson knows he has to tell her a secret, but he knows he will lose her if he does. He has always been honest, but he did promise Silas. What to do?
Another enjoyable, feel good romance from Jill Shalvis. Well rounded characters and a strong, if somewhat predictable, plot make for an enjoyable read.
This is book 5 in the Sunrise Cove series and though you definitely can benefit from reading the prior books in the series, this can be enjoyed as a stand-alone. I have read all the books in the series and this may possibly be my favorite as there were moments that made me chuckle, and there were life lessons and Luna was so dang relatable- A girl who eats her feelings and says what she thinks without a filter. And of course there were all the animals! Rescued, unwanted, blind, animals that other didn’t want or could no longer care for, like a sweet baby goat named Dammit Ziggy that has a huge personality, there’s not much to love about this book.
Jameson is a hunky investor who’s come in to try to save the farm that her grandfather left her and when he bonds with the animals too, talk about swoon worthy.
If you love stories about found family, like a tarot card reading Grandmother type and realizing that you don’t have to change who you are to be good enough, then you will love this series and especially this book.
I could easily see this being made into a Hallmark movie and falling for this story.
Thanks to Avon Books and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my review.
I try to read every Jill Shalvis book as it comes out. I have loved her style of writing with its humor, romance, warmth, and quirky characters for years and The Bright Spot didn't disappoint me.
Luna Wright has been managing Apple Ridge Farm near Lake Tahoe for its absentee owner for years, and she loves her job. Apple Ridge is made up of orchards, botanical gardens, shops, a farm-to-table cafe, and overrun with adopted animals and quirky employees and volunteers.
But Luna's world goes topsy turvy when the owner passes away, ownership unexpectedly passes to two separate people and it's found that Apple Ridge Farm isn't doing at all well financially. Be sure to read and find out how everything works out for the best.
I loved the romance, the many animals, and especially loved Luna's adopted grandma. I highly recommend this HEA romance.
I received this Digital Reading Copy from Avon Books through Net Galley and Edelweiss in the hopes that I would read it and leave an unbiased review. This is that review.
