Ruth Chou Simons' audiobook Pilgrim collects 25 devotionals into one tidy and cohesive package. Her view of Christians as pilgrims is agreeable and thought provoking at the same time.

What peace this book brought to my soul. Such an easy five stars.
Pilgrim by Ruth Chou Simmons is truly a fulfillment of the verse “pleasant words are like a honeycomb- sweet to the soul and healing to the bones”. It feels like a warm hug from one believer to another- especially if you listen to the audiobook like I did which is read by the author herself.
Even though Pilgrim is set up as a devotional, I read it like a book as each “day” is really just separate chapter or guidepost exploring a different attribute of God. Stunning artwork is sprinkled throughout the book as well as lines from beautiful hymns that illuminate the truths shared. Would highly recommend this book if you are in need of some encouragement on your pilgrim journey! It will remind you that God is behind, before and within you every step of the way.
Thank you to NetGalley for giving me a free copy of this beautiful book

This is such a beautiful devotional! Ruth always has a way with words that makes truths come alive. I loved listening to this so much I bought a physical copy and it’s even more beautiful in person that I would’ve imagined!

Our life's pilgrimage may be arduous. We may get lost along the way. But what if there were signs, like lights on a dark trail, that could lead us all the way home?
At just 3 Hours, 29 Minutes, this audiobook is a short but much-needed breath of fresh air. The narrator (and author), Ruth Chou Simons, has a beautifully warm voice that adds a motherly tone to the words. I'm almost transported to childhood, where my mum would tuck me into bed and read me a bedtime story. It's comforting; like a soft lullaby and gentle hug.
As you can already tell, I really enjoyed the audiobook version of this book, but I also took a peek at the preview of the physical version... and I wish I'd had both!
Of course, the hardback doesn't benefit from the ambience created by the author's voice, but the artwork throughout is absolutely stunning. I also think that having a physical copy would be good for dipping in and out of the chapters, whereas the audiobook lends itself more to a linear reading.
Combining an excellent balance of personal anecdotes with scripture, hymns, and words from other Christian writers, this book maintains a steady rhythm by means of the "guideposts" at the end of each chapter. Each guidepost links back to the overall theme of the book; God's character and how He guides us onwards through life and beyond.
The author does a great job of offering comfort and reassurance in a way that does not lack substance. Her words, though gentle and thoughtful, are not platitudes and pleasantries. Ruth doesn't claim to have all the answers, but she uses this book as a great big sign, pointing towards the One who does.
I'd recommend this book not just for Christian readers, but also for anyone who is feeling a bit lost and in need of some guidance.

Lovely book filled with beautiful truths! There may be something you’ve heard before, but it is packed full of the truths that we need constant reminders of! I also liked that each chapter had a line (or two!) from a hymn.
Huge thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to listen and review this audiobook!

Outstanding Book
This is such a treasure of a read!
Ruth Chou Simons is one of my new favorite authors. I really love the way she writes, and the heartfelt messages she details - especially that of grace.
To me, Ruth is the "Brene Brown" of grace. (where Brene Brown focuses on shame, Ruth has a similar focus on grace - a much better focus if you ask me!)
This book is packed full of 25 outstanding devotionals that lead you closer to God.
I highly recommend checking out this book, and very much enjoyed it myself.
4.8/5

Pilgrim : 25 ways God's Character Leads Us Onward by Ruth Chou Simons was one of my favorite audiobooks to date. Ruths words were so encouraging! I felt like I wanted to open my bible and sit with Jesus after listening to the convicting topics Ruth shares in her book. I ran and bought a copy of Pilgrim the day it released, because I enjoyed the audio book so much and also because Ruth's art is absolutely stunning. Ruths books make the best coffee table books after you've finished reading them because they are just gorgeous. Thank you so much for my copy NetGalley, Harvest house, and Ruth Chou Simons.
