The Buddhist and the Ethicist by Peter Singer and Shih Chao-Hwei is a dialogue between a philosopher and a Buddhist monastic. They discuss issues like animal welfare, gender equality, and the death penalty. The discussion is intriguing and very respectful. I found it very interesting how many of the Buddhist ideas presented in this book have similar old-fashioned ideas like the monotheistic religions. Having read many books on Buddhism in the past I have to say this is not one that I really enjoyed. I don't know, maybe I have taken what I have read in the past and altered it, but I felt as if this made Buddhism look like other religions when it came to the small minded views.
I did think that the way the two authors had their conversation was good.
