I really enjoyed this book! It has so many emotions along with twists and reveals. It just pulls at your heart but in the best way possible. This really was a wonderful book and I loved it being my first Rebecca Serle book!

I'm a fan of Rebecca Serle and will always read her books. I really enjoyed this and it reminded me of In Five Years but I was wanting more than what I got from it. I was hoping for there to be more chemistry between characters than there was and that made it difficult to get through some parts. Over all it was a great read but I was hoping for more.

The concept was a good idea, it was just executed poorly imo. Too slow and the “shock” wasn’t very shocking. I also felt like no one really had chemistry - there really wasn’t love in the story. You could argue it was less a romance and more a woman learning to love herself etc. but there also was barely any revelation. I just didn’t have any care for the characters, I wasn’t attached to them. I partially thought she would die at the end, honestly.

Thank you to NetGalley, Atria Books, and Rebecca Serle for the arc and opportunity to read Expiration Dates in exchange for an honest review.

I am very excited to share that this is my first book that I have read by Rebecca Serle, and I will certainly be picking up her others. I felt all of the feels while reading this book, so much so that I found my brain consumed with it when I wasnt actively reading. It was engaging, refreshing, and overall a fantastic book. i do however feel that some portions felt a bit rushed and wrapped up too quick, but Rebecca Serles writing flows so nicely that this didn't bother me too much.

The book offered a unique concept, to me at least, and I am excited to pick up more of Serles books, and to also recommend and share thoughts on this one with others!

A tad predictable. I did not like that her current romance (Jake) was all tell and no show, very little actual dialogue between them. Also his first wife died unexpectedly and she waited until like 8 months of dating and after moving in together to tell him she has congenital heart failure?!? Also waited that long to tell the readers haha.

The relationship with Hugo (ex boyfriend turned best friend) was all show, made it a very predictable ending. Wasn’t terrible but definitely wasn’t riveting.

I loved "One Italian Summer" so much, and was hoping to enjoy this book just as much. Unfortunately, it felt a bit predictable to me. I loved the time spent learned about Daphne's past relationships, but was less invested in the present story line.

4.5 stars
This was quite a rollercoaster. I think if you enjoyed “In Five Years” you’ll like this one. The premise was really fresh and unique and I loved all the references to places I’ve been to growing up in LA. Just when I thought I knew where the story was heading it took a huge turn. Overall I really loved this but I’m taking off half a star because I found the timeline confusing. Various chapters switch to the past but it’s not every chapter flipping back and forth past to present. The timeline wasn’t labeled whatsoever in the ARC I have so I was continually reading paragraphs at the beginning of a chapter not realizing the timeline had switched. It kinda disrupted the flow of the story for me but I got more used to it as the book went on. Hopefully when this is released in March 2024 the chapters will be labeled

I was given an early copy of this book for a review.

Every time Daphne starts a relationship she receives a note with the guy's name and te length the relationship will last. It works out that all her romantic relationships last exactly that amount of time. Until Jake. His note has no expiration date. Is he her soulmate she's meant to be with until death? You'll have to read this one to find out for yourself.

I found this an interesting read. I did wonder throughout if the relationships really ended because they were finished or if knowing the expiration date had an influence on ending. I think if you've enjoyed other of Rebecca Serle's books you'll enjoy this read. If you're new to her books it's still a good read that you'll enjoy.

For Daphne Bell, being single is like playing the lottery. There’s always the chance that with one piece of paper you could win it all. Daphne believes the universe has a plan for her. Every time she meets a new man, she receives a slip of paper with his name and a number on it—the exact amount of time they will be together. The papers told her she’d spend three days with Martin in Paris; five weeks with Noah in San Francisco; and three months with Hugo, her ex-boyfriend turned best friend. Daphne has been receiving the numbered papers for more than 20 years, always wondering when there might be one without an expiration date. Finally, the night of a blind date at her favorite Los Angeles restaurant, there’s only a name: Jake. As Jake and Daphne’s story unfolds, Daphne finds herself doubting the paper’s prediction, and wrestling with what it means to be both committed and truthful. Because Daphne knows things Jake doesn’t. Information that—if he found out—would break his heart.

Rebecca Serle has done it again with another gripping, emotional, and heartbreaking novel! I absolutely devoured this book, finishing it in less than a day. When I started reading, I became completely absorbed in Daphne's story. I was lost in the pages, forgetting the world around me. I loved Daphne and was rooting for her to find success in love and life. Jake, Hugo, and Daphne’s friends and family were loveable side characters who made the story extra fun and enjoyable. Everything about this story was just perfect. My only complaint is that it was over too soon. I loved “One Italian Summer,” but “Expiration Dates” is my new favorite from Rebecca Serle!

Daphne has an unusual ability to receive "expiration dates" which are basically names of men that she will be dating and how long the relationship will last. Throughout the years, she has received a number of papers and the paper's dates have ranged from one day to several years. This has allotted her knowledge that none of us have been privy to in our own respective love journeys. However, it has also caused Daphne to gauge her heart accordingly and to always hold back a little in love.

However one day, she receives a slip of paper that simply says "Jake" with no expiration date attached. Daphne realizes that she just may have found "the one." Or is something too scary to imagine happening and is Daphne running out of time?

Serle has created a wholly original novel that examines the nature of love and how we choose "the one." It's fascinating and unpredictable with definitely a few twists and turns along Daphne's journey. I highlighted so many beautiful lines and quotables that will definitely stay with me. I loved her quirky cast of characters and the theme of this modern romance.

This is definitely an exciting 2024 release to get on your radar that I highly recommend!

I loved the premise of this book, and the concept of the protagonist learning the length of every romantic relationship was well done. “Expiration Dates”—like previous books by Rebecca Serle—skillfully weaves a bit of magical realism into every story and I have come to look forward to each new release. The characters in this story were interesting and I enjoyed getting to know them and how they connected to each other. This book includes two significant plot twists, one of which I loved (as it added a great deal to the main premise), but the other really threw me off. I’d still recommend this book, especially for readers who are fans of her previous books, especially “In Five Years.” Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book.

Thank you to Atria Books and Netgalley for an ARC of this book! I’ve willingly read and reviewed it. All opinions are my own.

EXPIRATION DATES is my second novel from Rebecca Serle and I enjoyed it just as much as my first!

Daphne has secrets and one of her biggest, the one only her best friend Hugo knows, is that at the start of every relationship she’s ever had, Daphne receives a note detailing just how long the it will last. When she’s set up on a blind date and gets a note with no end date, Daphne has to come to terms with the fact that her happily ever after, the thing she’s been anticipating since she got her first note in fifth grade, is finally here.

I loved the concept of these notes, the idea that the recipient gets a little insight into just how long a relationship will last, and I think, from the now two books I’ve read by Rebecca Serle, that she does this magical realism so well. Her characters not only have to come to terms with these unbelievable events that happen to them, but they also go through moments of realization that things aren’t black and white simple. With Daphne, it was interesting to watch her come to terms with what exactly that blank space next to Jake’s name might mean for her life. I also really liked getting to see Daphne’s previous relationships and how they ultimately ended exactly when the notes said they would.

Don’t expect EXPIRATION DATES to be a happily ever after romance, because it is definitely not that (though it does have moments of romance!). However, with all the twists and turns and examination of trusting your gut vs. going down the clearly defined path, EXPIRATION DATES ended in a way that was extremely satisfying—even if my romance-loving heart wished to get more moments with Daphne and her guy—and with the tentative outcome I had been hoping for throughout the whole book.

I absolutely love how Rebecca Serve waves an element of the supernatural into her books. In Expiration Dates, Daphne finds random pieces of paper throughout her life containing a name and a measure of time (days, weeks, months, etc) that relate to her next relationship. As the book opens Daphne meets Jake, just after she found a note with his name on it- no length of time. Does this mean her relationship with Jake lasts forever? But how long is forever?

Loved this sweet novel about finding love in the most unique of situations. While I did wonder why she would end up with...I was surprised by multiple reveals in the book and love Serle's brand of storytelling. This book was a delight to read and I would happily read it again! Love the exploration if what finding love is like, the adventure it can be and the exploration what leads us to stay with someone or move on.

Expiration Dates is the third novel I've read of Rebecca Serle and one thing that I've come to learn about her works is that she doesn't repeat tropes or build on ideas/characters/content from previous novels--so I never know what, exactly, I'm going to get.

Expiration Dates is unlike any other romance that I've read. It's based on the main character, Daphne, and that she gets these mysterious notes that tell her how long a relationship with a certain man will last. Because of that, she never really fully opens herself to the possibilities of that relationship because she knows there's an end date. While she finds pleasure in her relationships and sometimes, even, allows herself to be more of herself with some of her partners, it's really only 2 partners that we see her begin to fully be herself. And it's because of all of this that for the first half of the novel, I felt disconnected...because she felt disconnected. Everything up to the halfway mark felt so matter of fact and didn't really back an emotional punch--it was more of a retelling of her past relationships than an emotional unfolding of her story. Then we learn more about her and why she does certain things or seems so matter of fact and that's when I became more invested in what was happening with Daphne and Jake.

Expiration Dates has a unique take on fate and love and while it wasn't what I was expecting, it was still an interesting read.

How would you approach romantic relationships if you knew they had an expiration date? Rebecca Serle tackles this topic in her latest novel Expiration Dates.

Daphne knows exactly when each of her relationships will end, by a little slip of paper that will give the name and how long, until one day she receives a slip that just says JAKE. Will he be her forever love? Is it fate or true love? Can Daphne let her walls down and truly be loved"

"We have to be cracked open sometimes to let anything good in."

I really enjoyed this book, especially the second half. The characters were well developed and of course the twist made me even more invested. It is beautiful and heartful. Just a warning it does have some language.

"We are all dying. Every Day. And at some point it becomes a choice. Which one are you going to do today? Are you living or are you dying?"

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

How does Rebecca Serle knock it out of the park EVERY. SINGLE. TIME!?! Her latest novel Expiration Dates is 5 star gem that most definitely will be a book I re-read because it’s just that good! This addictive novel is jam packed with so many emotions—literally ALL of the feels! The characters are extremely well-developed and even though I finished this book days ago, I still can’t stop thinking about these characters —love that! I can absolutely see this novel being made into a movie, and I have already mentally picked out the actors who should star in it lol! Expiration Dates is a whimsical and heartfelt romance novel that will stay with you!

I was absolutely enthralled by the premise of this story, wondering how to approach love knowing it had an expiration date. Do we really choose our love or is it left to fate?

Daphne has a robust love life, but she knows precisely when each relationship will end, from just one night to two years and two months. After she receives a blank piece of paper, she thinks Jake is her forever. Jake seems perfect for her, but I didn't sense the chemistry. She had more chemistry with her best friend Hugo, who had already seen his expiration date come and go, but he still stayed in Daphne's life.

THEN! Since Rebecca Serle likes to tug at our heart strings, she throws in a medical issue that threw me through a loop. Mostly because it was uncanny timing for something I am dealing with at the moment, so it was a bit of a sensitive subject.

This book was thought provoking and evocative. However, I don't know how I feel about the ending. Even after a couple of days to sit on my thoughts, I think I wanted more. It ended similarly to how I thought it would (in terms of who she would end up with), but I was still left wanting.

I just love Rebecca Serle so much. She got me out of a several year reading slump with "One Italian Summer". This was fun, lighthearted romance but it did have emotional depth as well with the plot twist. I genuinely loved this novel.
