Meddy and her new husband, Nathan, are celebrating Chinese New Year w/ her family in Jakarta, Indonesia. An old flame of Second Aunt's - who may or may not be a Mafia crime boss-brings gifts to woo her and accidentally gives something very valuable away, and meant for a rival crime boss. Meddy and the Aunties jump into action to retrieve the gift and wind up facing down criminals, kidnappings and rude teenagers in their wildest adventure yet. This is a fun, fast-paced read and a satisfying conclusion to a beloved series.

We’re back at it again, stuck in the middle of the most ridiculous (and somehow also dangerous) hijinks with this lovable family. But this time we are off to Indonesia and it’s THE BEST.
I swear Hesse’s books set in Indonesia are the best of her work and you can just tell how much love she has for this part of herself and the world. The culture and food and atmosphere enriches the story and her characters seem to thrive more. It’s such a delightful and rewarding experience to read!
In true Aunties fashion, a major misunderstanding leads to life or death scenarios, but instead of the Aunties being the ones unable to communicate and understand the world they are in, Meddy is. She realizes her very limited knowledge of the language and inability to understand the ways of Indonesia society means she needs to follow the Aunties’ leads as she fights to get her husband back from the clutches of “totally respectable and above board business people that are absolutely not mob bosses”.
I laughed and feel even more in love with these characters and hope we continue to get more of their story!
This was the last book for Meddy and her Aunties and I’m so sad to see them go!
I loved this book for its humor, outrageous situations, and setting of Jakarta, Indonesia (definitely made me wish I was closer to my Indonesian traditions/culture).
This book flew by for me and gave me that feel good feeling of when I rewatch my favorite sitcoms.
If you like books with truly outrageous hijinks and characters that feel like they’re on a sitcom or soap opera? Check this out!
Meddy is back with her mother, aunties and her husband, Nathan, for the third installment of this series. The newlyweds are finishing up their European honeymoon and join the aunties and Meddy’s extended family in Jakarta for the Chinese New Year. As soon as Meddy and Nathan get to Jakarta they are faced with hilarious mishaps after mishaps involving three prestigious crime lords.
I loved the other two books from this series, I think Meddy’s mother and aunties are hilarious! This book was packed with action and hilarious antics right from the beginning. It was a little chaotic at times with a lot of unrealistic things going on, but it was an entertaining and fast paced read. If you’re looking for a light and fun read, try this series out.
The Good, The Bad, and The Aunties was a great ending to this series. It had all the wild aunties antics we love from the previous books and gave us a nice wrap up to Meddy and Nathan’s love story. Glad I read these books and definitely would recommend them to anyone looking for a fun read!
In this 3rd installment of the Aunties series, Meddy and the Aunties found themselves embroiled in yet another “situation” —- The whole gang went back to their motherland to celebrate Chinese New Year when they got caught in the middle of a war between rival “gangs”!!! But fear not, there’s no dead body to dispose this time lol!
As in the 2 previous books, the meddling but lovable aunties take the matters into their own hands to try and rectify the problem. There are plenty of hilarious moments and over the top scenes as usual but also still full of heart. Second aunt even got a lovelife in this book!!! And, Nathan is now part of the family as the beloved Son-in-Law! It’s so fitting that this last book is set in Jakarta where the characters are from. I’m so sad that it’s the end of the series but at the same time I feel like it also needs to end on a high note. I’ll miss the aunties and Meddy for sure! They’ve become my go-to books when I am craving for comfort reads! Thanks so much Jesse for bringing these unforgettable characters to life! I will always recommend it as a must read cozy mystery series!💖💕💖
I love this series so much! The characters are so real and hilarious. The plot is entertaining, yet plausible. I really wish this series was continuing! We have to know what comes next for Meddy. The audiobooks are amazing as well, so I'll be listening to this one soon!
The third and final book in the auntie series - I wanted to love this one, but in the end I felt like it wasn't a necessary addition to the series. The same continued antics of the aunties didn't feel fresh and left me underwhelmed. The plot was interesting and I think many readers will still love it. I did love the names of the tribe mafia bosses - those were fun. It had a heartwarming ending and definitely some smiles/giggles here and there. I think if reading Dial A for Aunties is perfect, then even book 2 is great, but this one is not necessary. Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for an eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Jesse Q. Sutanto’s Aunties series is one of my absolute favorites and her latest installment The Good, the Bad, and the Aunties is the third and final book! I have adored following Meddy, Nathan, her mother, and the aunties throughout this series!
After spending an amazing honeymoon together, Meddy and Nathan join the rest of the family in Jakarta to celebrate Chinese New Year. Well of course things don’t go exactly as planned and I completely loved what Jesse Q. Sutanto had in store for this crew!
I thoroughly enjoyed the hilarious laugh-out-loud calamities! Never a dull moment from start to finish—I flew through this novel. This 5-star series will always hold a place in my heart and I truly look forward to reading what comes next from Jesse Q. Sutanto.
Let me start by saying that I absolutely love Jesse Q. Sutanto's books. They are nice, light, extremely funny reads that often have me cackling.
That said, I was a bit disappointed in The Good, the Bad, and the Aunties. It was so over-the-top ridiculous that I struggled to get into it. We're there still parts I laughed out loud with? Yes, but overall, it was simply too much for me, and I struggled a bit to even finish the book.
I will continue reading Sutanto's books because I so enjoy her writing, but this one just wasn't for me.
This was such a fun read and honestly wildly mix of bad luck, wrong place wrong time, and overbearing but funny aunties.
I’m crying…
This is the end of an Era.
Book 3 of 3 in the “aunties” series and quite literally. I’m devastated. What am I going to do without Meddy and the aunties?
Life is about to get pretty dang lonely.
I don’t need to state the obvious but I will, for you folks in the back, if you have not yet met the aunties you need to run on over to your favorite bookstore and purchase “Dial A for Aunties” . Yes, I am recommending you start from the beginning. Not because you have to but because you want to.
The Good the Bad and the Aunties, can be read as a stand-alone but you would be robbing yourself of pure literary gold.
This book is incredibly well written but it’s also a very “fun” read.
Jesse Q. Sutano is an adored author and I am yet to rate any of her books less than 5 stars. It was a true honor to be able to read and review early. Big thank you to Jesse Q. Sutano and Berkley Pub for making that happen.
The Good the Bad and the Aunties, releases March 26 and I promise, you don’t want to miss this one.
Check out this teaser :
What should have been a family celebration of Chinese New Year descends into chaos when longtime foes crash the party in this hilariously entertaining novel by Jesse Q. Sutanto, bestselling author of Dial A for Aunties.
After an ultra-romantic honeymoon across Europe, Meddy Chan and her husband Nathan have landed in Jakarta to spend Chinese New Year with her entire extended family. Chinese New Year, already the biggest celebration of the Lunar calendar, gets even more festive when a former beau of Second Aunt’s shows up at the Chan residence bearing extravagant gifts—he’s determined to rekindle his romance with Second Aunt and the gifts are his way of announcing his courtship.
His grand gesture goes awry however, when it’s discovered that not all the gifts were meant for Second Aunt and the Chans—one particular gift was intended for a business rival to cement their alliance and included by accident. Of course the Aunties agree that it’s only right to return the gift—after all, anyone would forgive an honest mistake, right? But what should have been a simple retrieval turns disastrous and suddenly Meddy and the Aunties are helpless pawns in a decades-long war between Jakarta’s most powerful business factions. The fighting turns personal, however, when Nathan and the Aunties are endangered and it’s up to Meddy to come up with a plan to save them all. Determined to rescue her loved ones, Meddy embarks on an impossible mission—but with the Aunties by her side, nothing is truly impossible…
The aunties are at it again! Celebrating Chinese New Year, Meddy and her new husband leave their honeymoon in Europe to go celebrate the holiday with her aunties. But in true Aunties fashion, drama follows them. This is another laugh out loud funny book! The aunties are so ridiculous it makes me laugh!
This is one of the easiest five stars I've given in a long time! The Aunties series is one of my all time favorites and I think if someone needs a pick me up, then they should read this series! All of these books are excellent!
Let me start out by saying I love Jesse Q. Sutanto's other books. The Good, The Bad and The Aunties is the third book in the Aunties series, but this one just wasn't for me. I love her humor in her stories and her characters that feel like family, but this book was just so over the top ridiculous. If you're a fan of the Auntie books, you might appreciate being back with this crazy crew again. however, it was just mehh to me.
I'm so disappointed in this one.
Thank you NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for this free eArc in exchange for my honest review.
Sutanto has done it again! The aunties are a fantastic set of characters and a cozy world that I always love returning to.
It was so much fun to dive into another adventure with Meddy and her endearingly quirky family. For their final adventure in this series, the family, including Meddy's new husband, Nathan, heads to Jakarta to celebrate Chinese New Year with Meddy's extended family. When Abi, a man courting Second Aunt who is "definitely not in the mafia," accidentally gives away a red envelope meant for an equally shady business associate, chaos ensues. Meddy's aunts are as fearless and fun as they topple headfirst into another hilarious escapade, and I enjoyed every minute of the journey.
When I realized I had the opportunity to hang out with my meddlesome aunties again, you best believe I was on it! "The Good, the Bad, and the Aunties" took me to Jakarta after Meddy's wedding to celebrate Chinese New Year. Second Aunt's past love interest shows up showering gifts to the family to display his affection and win her heart. During the festivities, the gift intended for a business rival to cement a business alliance is accidentally given to the family, causing trouble and putting everyone in danger. Leave it up to Meddy to ensure Nathan and the Aunties' safety.
Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the book. By the time I reached 40% of the story, I expected more character development, especially from Meddy, as we'd spent time with her. However, the book focused too much on Meddy's inner dialogue centred around her "stomach" and emotions. I felt that she was immature in handling and reacting to situations under pressure, despite her experiences with the Aunties.
In my opinion, the book was unnecessarily long, and it didn't add much to the series. However, the Aunties, especially Fourth Aunt, stole the show with her witty banter and insistence that Meddy should loosen up. I appreciated the overall message of the series, which is doing whatever it takes to protect your loved ones, even if it means going to extreme and unrealistic lengths to achieve it.
Thank you to NetGalley & Berkley Publishing Group for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The final book in the Aunties series takes place in Jakarta. I loved reading about the Chan's in their home country. The aunties were up to their usual funny antics. Unfortunately the storyline was too far fetched for me. All of the books have been a little out there and full of misunderstanding but this one was really out there. Overall I've really enjoyed the series and love the multi cultural aspect so much!
Also around 52-53% there is a spot where the aunties wake Meddy and Nathan up to tell them Second Aunt is kidnapped. In one paragraph they're explaining this then all of a sudden they are in Julia Child's office discussing it with Abi too. There was no break or transition so hopefully this was caught in editing.
