Finding love in the mundane daily life. I LOVE that about this book. There’s no billionaire, no sexy scientist, no hanging on ex, no social media influencers (which I totally adore in their own books) - just two people living normal lives with normal baggage and falling in love. It almost seems too basic a premise, too boring, but in author Livy Hart’s hands, it sparkles.
I received a copy of this book from Entangled Publishing.
What Did I think About the Novel Overall?
Some Kind of Blunderful is the type of book that you change all of your plans to finish because once you pick it up, you won't be able to stop reading. From the very first moment that our Alex and Mia meet, in the most cringe worthy and awkward first date on the planet, I found myself invested into how their relationship was going to turn around. I absolutely adored both characters despite their flaws - Mia is close with her family in the cutest ways that also borders on a dependent relationship with her dad, Alex has a history that makes it easier for him to put his head down and work, work, work.
The pace of the story was perfect - there was the right amount of build up, tension and banter between the characters to make the love story believable and that much more swoony. And once the love story appeared, it was lights out after that. Livy Hart truly wrote a knock out with this one between the cast of characters, the perfect rom-com moments, and the love story that makes you kick your feet up and down while smiling as it progresses.
Would I recommend this?
Hell yeah! Some Kind of Blunderful is guaranteed to be a runaway hit. It's the perfect "meet disaster" trop along with basketball, puppies, and meddling best friends. For every romantic comedy loving reader out there, Livy Hart is a must read author.
could not put this book down! From the moment I read the dedication (fans of The Office will appreciate!) I knew I was in for something special.
Mia is a 20-something teacher who is struggling in her career and personal life. She was left at the altar by her previous partner, and is slowly climbing out of wedding debt. She tries out a dating app and gives a chance to a guy, Alex, whose profile is “too good to be true”. While Mia and Alex are attracted to each other, their first date is awkward and forced, and when they realize that Alex inadvertently stole the job Mia’s dad had been expecting to get, they never expect to see each other again. However, life keeps throwing them together in the most unexpected and hilarious ways.

The banter, the spice 🥵😌 and the amazing characters were so well done 👏🏽 This is a fun romance that I’ll definitely come back to. Thank you to Entangled Publishing for the ARC in exchange for an honest review — absolutely loved this book!
Thanks so much to Livy Hart, Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for the eARC. All opinions expressed are my own!
I absolutely adore this book, its such a fantastic romantic comedy and had me hooked from the very beginning!
Mia Madden is a relatable and hilarious protagonist w she navigated the treacherous waters of online dating. Her witty observations and quick humour made her instantly likeable, a. Enter Alex Conroy, a character who defies the stereotypes of his corporate persona, and Livy Hart brilliantly portrays the tension between his professional and personal sides.
The chemistry between Mia and Alex is off the charts, and the way their relationship develops is both heartwarming and hilarious. I love the way fate constantly pushed them together The witty banter, the mishaps, and the steamy moments had me hooked.
What sets Some Kind of Blunderful apart is its clever blending of romance with workplace dynamics and family drama. The constant, often comical, collisions between Mia and Alex, along with their respective best friends' involvement, create a web of entertaining and unexpected situations that kept the tension flowing.
The writing style is sharp and engaging, and Livy Hart's humor shines throughout the story. The pacing is spot on, and the plot is well-crafted with just the right amount of twists and turns to keep the reader thoroughly entertained.
Whilst every aspect of this book is undeniably 5 stars, I would have loved to have seen Alex's background explored further, especially seeing the way in which his relationship with Derek is resolved.
This book is the perfect blend of humour, heart, and heat, and it's a delightful addition to the romantic comedy genre. It's a story of love and self-discovery that left me with a smile on my face and a warm feeling in my heart. I highly recommend!
I found myself both looking forward to reaching the end to find out what happened and dreading it because I didn't want the fun to end. I couldn't put this book down and you won't be able to either. I cannot recommend it enough!
Read this book on my way to the beach and I really enjoyed it. The bantering, spice (it's a slow burn) BUT when it comes, it doesn't disappoint at all. And I also loved the character growth for both mains. I'd recommend this book to anyone for sure! Thank you to the entangled team and author for sending me this as an arc!
1 100% loved this book. This is the most fun I've had while
reading a book in a while. I absolutely love that Alex and Mia
kept being forced together even while fighting their growing
attraction. Speaking of attraction, the smut in this is next level.
May everyone get their Alex when it comes to enthusiasm in
the bedroom, or couch, or hot tub. (The hot tub scene will be
playing in my mind for a while.) Not only was the storyline
great, but I loved the characters. From the main characters to
the friends they have were so wonderfully written. I seriously
cannot say enough good things about this book.
Mia and Alex start off as many of us have, a terrible first date thanks to a dating app. Chance is not on their side as they continue to cross paths in the most unfortunate way possible. Despite all odds, they begin the find a common ground, but will that be enough to make it work? Opposites attract in this adorable contemporary romance. The supporting characters are phenomenal and there may be an irresistible puppy in the mix. I really enjoyed this contemporary romance, it had a great 2-3 range spice that really enhanced the scenes, and a really engaging plot.
Some Kind of Blunderful is a light hearted and cosy romance that had me rooting for Alex and Mia.
Their first date, if you can call it that, is all kinds of awkward. First, he’s late—or so she thinks—and happens to over hear her complaining about him on her phone to her best friend Josie. Still, they decide to stick it out and have dinner which is all rather lacklustre. Upon parting, they don’t expect to see each other again despite the fact he works at the some company as her dad—in fact, he happens to be the boss. A little tidbit he neglected to mention.
Like magnets, Alex and Mia continue to wind up together. Whether it’s on a blind double date with their best friends, a company picnic, or volunteering at a pet shelter. Neither of them can deny the attraction between them and they soon realize they might just be dating, whether they knew it or not.
Some Kind of Blunderful was full of romance, family, and best friends—an excellent ensemble to a wonderful read. Thank you Entangled for the arc and the chance to read early.
4.5/5 Mia and Alex can’t keep from running into each other in awkward situations around her small town. First a cringey online date, then at her dad’s office, and lastly as a blind double date with their best friends. She’s afraid of love after her childhood love dumped her on their wedding day, and he’s never seen adult love modeled so he thinks he’s incapable.
This is dual POV, which I love, because we can see quickly that he’s not really an enemy and he’s falling fast for Mia. Their magnetic attraction leads to a few secret kisses and then explodes with an unexpectedly hot first spicy scene. I loved her family and his best friend acting as family, both encouraging them. There is misunderstanding around the third act, but it is not cringey at all. This is a blunderful, easy fall read!
I absolutely loved this book. It was exactly what I needed in between some of the stories I’d been reading lately. Reading slump cured! I related so easily to this story that it was an easy 5 star read for me. As I read I thought about my own dating life before I found my person and how finding that person hits you out of no where. Mia and Alex start rocky but life had other plans for them. Their romance was very sweet and steamy but most important realistic. I related so much to Alex in the way of not having a strong family network unlike your partner and how intimating that can be to come into. I loved Mia so much and enjoyed that she and I had something in common with being a teacher. More importantly I connected with her because she came off normal with her anxiety over pleasing people and her attitude towards situations was really balanced and believable. She wasn’t leaning heavily towards one side of the scale than the other which can make a character unlikeable or frustrating to me. All of the secondary characters were amazing supports to Mia and Alex and really helped the reader get a better understanding about their reactions. They also didn’t just go along with what the MC wanted they stood up and shared their voice and it really allowed their personalities shine through. The whole story was just so well put together and extremely entertaining. I honestly want more from this crew of characters! So I hope we can get a few more stories with them in the future. Highly recommend!
Alex and Mia mean so much to me. When I was in a wretched slump, it was there to get me out.
Thank you Entangled for the ARC. I am mutuals with the author, but that doesn't change the way I feel about this book.
Oh the antics! This story was such a fun read. The plot is adorable and literally every character is so so likable. The family dynamic between the Maddens is so cute and Josie is a girls girl for sure. She’s the best friend a girl could ask for. But the same is said for Ezra with Alex. The pairs friendship is amazing and the fact they have girls who are besties just adds to the fun. This book is beautifully written and a ton of fun to read. It’s dual POV and that just makes it better. Highly recommend this one!
I have loved this authors previous works, so I was excited to receive this arc. I liked it. I didn’t love it. I felt like the two main characters didn’t talk to each other at all about feelings, until the end when they were already together. And even then… Miscommunication is my least favorite trope so it makes sense why I didn’t love this. I definitely think others will though. I just can’t get down on MC’s talking around each other instead of to each other.
When reading romcoms, it is often an expectation that these characters will have flaws but their story will come together and be perfect. With some kind of blunderful, not only was it lacking in a third act breakup, but it was lacking in perfection in a way that made the story feel real. There was/were awkwardness, and mistakes, and uncomfortability, but there was real love shown between our two main characters. Some kind of blunderful is perfect for those who want a love story that feels like something real.
All thoughts are my own and I do not accept money for reviews. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me an early access reading of this book.
I have been in a bit of a reading slump, nothing has sounded good and I’ve just been trudging through books, but this book has like healed me. It was fantastic, a perfect rom-com, the love story was great and was perfectly meshed with the family drama plot. Livy Hart was able to mesh the love plot and the story plot together to where one doesn’t overtake the other, which is something I have not been getting from other rom-coms lately! And, this was dual pov, so getting to see both sides of how they were feeling and seeing them fall off each other was so good! I am definitely going to check out her other books so I can bask in well written books. Also gotta support a fellow DFW girl.
Dual pov, semi-workplace romance, not-so meet cute, he falls first, teacher x business man, troubled past, small town
Spoilery section
Okay, so, I had a really bad allergy headache, borderline migraine, while I was reading this book. Usually I will set the book down and wait for the headache to pass because my brain felt like scrambled eggs and my eyes had a hard time focusing. I could not put this book down. I powered through the pain, and honestly once I go through like a page I was fine, and read this book in a day. This book flows so well, you usually get both povs for a scene so you see how both characters are dealing with their feelings for the other and frustrations over the situation they find themselves in.
I have nothing that irked me with this book. It was the perfect romcom when I needed one, very enjoyable. The “almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades” made me feel seen. My family says this all the time and I have learned it is not a common phrase.
Book Review
Some Kind of Blunderful
By Livy Hart
Pub date: September 25, 2023
Thanks to @entangled published and @netgalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
One thing Mia and Alex can agree on is that their first date was horrible, and they never want to see each other again. In the brief conversation they do have Mia learns that Alex works at the same company as her dad. What she doesn’t know is Alex is the new boss that her dad complains about all the time. But it shouldn’t matter because they are not going to see each other after today, right?
Wrong! Avondale is a small town in Georgia, and they continue to run into each other and learn more about one another. Pretty soon, they retry dating, and they realize they really like each other, maybe even love each other. Mia and Alex have agreed she will be the one to tell her dad. Family is very important to Mia so if her dad can’t accept Alex into their family they cannot be together.
My thoughts: I loved this book from the beginning. I enjoyed the dual POV, slow burn, spice, and the way the two characters evolve. The relationship between Mia and her dad is honest and relatable. The connection between Mia and Alex was meant to be. I love the rom com vibe.
Two broken souls bumping with other even if fate is against their relationship. Mia and Alex banter, tender moments, and deep emotions is a rollercoaster that keep you reading until their HEA. Family, friendship, grief, banter, second chances and so much more in a wonderful love and life story
Some Kind of Blunderful was wonderful. It was also funny, cute, sweet, sexy with a bit of steam. I enjoyed Alex's and Mia's journey. It was filled with lots of blunders but it was also beautiful and had emotional depth. I quite enjoyed it and definitely recommend.

This book was the epitome of a fun read, Livy Hart has written a hilarious book featuring two characters I can only describe as a Disaster Duo. Mia and Alex are total opposites who are thrown together in a series of meet disasters, and end up forced to be near each other by virtue of the fact that their respective best friends are dating each other. Oh, and to make it just a touch more awkward, Alex is Mia's dad's boss, and Mia's dad HATES him. As you can imagine, hilarity, hijinks, and scalding banter ensue.
Read this book if you want:
- a meet-disaster of epic proportions
- enemies to lovers
- forced proximity
- opposites attract
- top tier banter
- scorching chemistry
- Puppies (HE ADOPTS A PUPPY)
