This was such a sweet book — I'd envision this being a very thoughtful gift to a young child whose grandparents or aunts and uncles live far away, it's a good story that can teach children about familial love that bridges the distance. The art was lovely, and the narrative was as well. I really loved reading this!
This is a sweet and simple read that is perfect for a far away grandparent to give to their young grandchild. With few words on the page, this book would keep the attention of even the most active toddler. For the early school age child, there is an origami paper heart craft tutorial that is a fun, interactive project. I love the idea of this book as a Valentine's Day gift for a kiddo who is geographically separated from a relative. This book made me smile, and for that, it received top marks. I appreciate receiving an advanced copy from NetGalley and look forward to reading this to my 2-year old and making a "paper wish" with my 5-year old.
This is such a sweet, heartwarming story about still loving and connecting with your loved ones even if you live far apart from each other. This was highly relatable because I have family spread out throughout the country that I don’t see often. It’s easy to call someone or get on a video chat, but to take the time to craft a gift and send it to them was sentimental and touching. I think kids would enjoy this story - the text rhymes and is simple, and the story is easy to follow. I also appreciated the instructions at the end of the story so kids can make their own origami hearts. Definitely recommend!
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. These are my own thoughts and opinions.
I read this with my 3 year old son. He was excited about it because of the paper plane on the cover (he's been obsessed with making them lately) but he really enjoyed the story. He has many family members that live in a different state to us, or in a different country, so this was a beautiful story for him.
The text is simple and rhymes, it was perfect for his age.
I love the instructions at the end to make your own paper heart. We will definitely be trying it out.
Cute story about keeping in touch with family that is far away. I liked the art and that it had instructions on how to make the paper wishes. It was very sweet.
4 stars
This is such a cute book. The addition of the paper heart instructions at the end makes my heart melt and I hope this helps children spread love to their loved ones near and far.
What a sweet and lovely book! As a parent with cross country loved ones, I loved sharing this picture book with my daughters. The illustrations are bright and cheery, and the sentiment is right up my kids' alley. They love to make and send things. The instructions for the origami heart wish are great!
This is a lovely children's book about a boy who is missing his grandparents, as they live very far away. He gets the idea to make an origami love heart, and he posts it to them. He wonders where it is on its journey and whether it will go by plane, train or boat. Eventually he goes on a video call with his loved ones, and he sees that they are delighted as they have received the love heart from the post man.
This is a cute story, which I really enjoyed. The images in the book are nice, and the text is easy to read. Highly recommended!
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.
Paper Wishes is a very sweet story about a child mailing an origami heart to their grandparents because they live far away (I am making an assumption that they are grandparents, there is no specific relationship named). The text is short, simple, and rhyming, which makes it fun to read aloud. At the end of the story the extended family connects over a video call. I think this book is simple and heart warming, it would be fun to do the origami craft in the backmatter or an easier option for littler kids could be to draw a picture and mail it to a far away loved one.
I just reviewed Paper Wishes by Tara Knudson. #PaperWishes #NetGalley
Paper Wishes is an adorable story of a child who lives far away from their loved ones. Since they can't see each other in person, they send an origami heart in the mail, then get together on a video chat to be able to talk to each other online. Perfect for kids who live far away from loved ones in this tech-filled day and age! Loved this!
Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this advanced review copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest review on the book!
This had all the things I'm looking for in a picture book.
Simple, rhyming text.
Beautiful illustrations. I loved how she kept the red and blue color scheme dominant throughout.
Topic is relevant/relatable for young readers and older students. There are a lot of social-emotional books out there to help children process the common emotions but I've not seen one that addresses missing someone.
Definitely a multicultural vibe although it's very subtle.
I received a dARC from the publisher via Netgalley; this is my honest review.
In the children's book Paper Wishes, a young child shares how much he misses his family who live elsewhere and the lengths he will go to visit them. Later on, the young child comes to terms with the fact that, even though they are miles away, they can still be reached via video chat and letter, which can lessen his homesickness. It resonates with me since I sometimes yearn to be with my loved ones in person considering the fact that I now reside in a different country.
Paper Wishes is a sweet book that provides directions on how to make your very own paper wish to mail to loved ones. It might be helpful for young children to read this book to help them deal with missing their distant family.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the book.
Paper Wishes tells the story of a child missing their family living far away and the lengths they would go to to be with them and make peace with the fact that although they physically cannot be with them, they can always send things in the mail and video chat.
With instructions on making your very own paper wish to send to loved ones in the mail, Paper Wishes is an adorable book that could help little ones cope with missing their family that is far away.
