So many twists and turns in this one that I didn’t see coming! The characters really pull you in. I went back and reread some parts after I finished it to see the clues I missed!
Highly recommend!

...That's it?

I started this story with mixed feelings, it was too slow and I did not want to pick up this book. As the pages kept flying by, I became entrapped within the plot and was being led along by the author's good writing. When we are nearing the plot twist though, within 5 pages of foreshadowing I figured out ONE of the twists and so I was pretty proud of myself for doing so but I was also disappointed that she was not able to get me.BOY WAS I WRONG THO, after that twist she softly dropped another one that had my jaw on the FLOOR. How could I have been reading it for so long and still not make the connection.....

Anyways, that leads into what I did like of the story, the characters were all quite fleshed out (as fleshed out you can make people that need to have secrets). I was excited to see what would happen so that the main character would have the upper hand in the end. I also liked not having to think and just be in their scheming world for a bit. For most of the story I thought they were in New York but they were actually in Chicago so that gave me whiplash 😭. By the time I had finished the book I was left with a feeling of "is that it?". I guess I was expecting more action or a bigger twist to happen but NO we like ran a mile and then gave up on the marathon. In conclusion, the story was not horrible but I wanted more from the thriller of it.

Thank You Netgalley for granting me access to an e-arc copy of this book<3

This was an entertaining read. I have only read one other book by Mary Kubica but it was similar to this one in the case that it was fast-paced, there were multiple characters and subplots, and a random twist at the end. There were 2 “big” twists in this novel. I enjoyed the first twist a lot, even though it played with the “unreliable narrator” trope which I am not always a fan of, but I think Kubica did it well. The second twist I did not very much like as it just seemed off the wall. There were too many subplots thrown into the story to make it all cohesive, especially at the end. But still, with that being said, I was intrigued the whole time and never felt bored reading the novel. I think that says something about a book.

Thank you to Harlequin Trade Publishing and NetGalley for this free ARC.

Local woman missing was in my top five favorite books I read last year. It seems this one may be in my top five for this year. I never am able to guess the ending in her books. The twist always gets me. This book was no different. An amazing book and I intend to read more of hers.

Meghan Michaels is a divorced mom of a sixteen year old, navigating the waters between daughter and ex-husband. She has primary custody of their daughter, Sienna.. These can be rocky times, being a hard working dedicated ICU nurse, mom, maid, etc. then her life gets even busier and more complicated when she attends a support group and meets an old classmate.

Why the support group? You see her divorce has truly effected her self esteem, along with the extra hours she puts in to provide for herself and Sienna, supplementing the child support check and for this reason Sienna is home alone much if the time, You see the divorce was Meghan’s choice, another reason she’s incurred an incredible amount of guilt. She left Ben because she felt she and Sienna deserved better than what her emotionally unavailable ex-husband, Ben, was providing, particularly when it came to Sienna. They had to move them out of their comfortable condo, and into a smaller apartment so she'd be comfortable financially.

The apartment is nice enough, but the new place isn’t in the greatest neighborhood, where vacant buildings sit and large parking lots surround their apartment building. Then there’s the deafening rumble of the L running directly beside their flat, every hour of every day. Sienna is typical of her teen age, moody, sullen at times argumentative with her mom, all compounded by being a split family. Yep, life is tough, but it can get way more complicated and it does.

At work, Meghan is assigned as the primary care nurse for a young woman, named Caitlin, who was brought into her unit in a coma, suffering traumatic brain injury, after allegedly jumping from a raised pedestrian walkway. It’s amazing the girl survived the fall and it’s unlikely she will ever be normal again. Caitlin is holding on to life however little her survival chances. Even though she has been trained not to, Meghan becomes emotionally involved in the case, spending a lot of time with Caitlin's parents, the Becketts. She finds Caitlin consuming her mind and her life.

One day the police arrive on the unit stating that a new witness has come forward, leading them to suspect that Caitlin was in an altercation on the bridge just prior to her fall. Does that mean someone pushed Caitlin, and if so, who and why?

In the meantime, a man is stalking the neighborhoods around Meghan's apartment, attacking women at their most vulnerable times, which makes him the lead suspect in whoever attacked Caitlin. Meghan begins to feel incredibly unsafe for her and Sienna.

She's Not Sorry has a lot going on, but it’s not hard to keep up with. I feel I’ve been somewhat vague about the storyline and that is because I don’t want to give away any of the many plot twists throughout the novel so you will be just as enraptured as i was. I don’t predict any reader will see what’s around the corner in this thriller/mystery.

I highly recommend that if you begin this book, you should etch out a large chunk of time because you won’t want to put it down.

I have been a huge Mary Kubica fan ever since I read The Good Girl almost 10 years ago! She is one of my go-to authors when I am in the need of a good thriller! She's Not Sorry did not disappoint. I thought that the book was perfectly paced, suspenseful and there were many red herrings that made me question everything and everyone. The twist was a total shocker to me. I am usually pretty good at guessing twists in thrillers, but this one totally caught me by surprise. Well done! Overall, this is one of my favorites by Kubica, and I will definitely be recommending it.

Thank you to Netgalley for the advanced copy!

The beginning was a bit slow, but once you got about 25-30% of the way in, it started to hook me and I could not put it down! There were so many twists and turns that I did not see coming, and in a million years would have never guessed was the end result of what transpired certain events!
I do wish the story would have shown more of Caitlin instead of the additional plot line with a man attacking women, but overall it was still a really good read, and I highly recommend!

2.5 stars rounded down. While I enjoyed the authors writing and how easy this was to read, I feel like there was WAY too much going for my liking. There were three mystery plots happening simultaneously, and they didn't all connect in any way outside the fact they were all just happening to the main character, Meghan.

It was also very slow to get going, and I found myself struggling to get into the story. It was when we got to part 2 that it really picked up, but that was the last third of the book.

I think this book had a lot of promise, but it just wasn't for me. I'm for sure the outlier, though, based on other reviews, so I'm sad I didn't love it in the same way that others did.

Thank you to Harlequin Trade Publishing and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is my 5th books by this author. She tends to be a hit or miss for me and I had high hopes for this one. The pacing was so slow with this one and the twists had me rolling my eyes. I predicted some of the twists and I’m usually okay with some unanswered questions but this time I was not. A pretty frustrating read overall.

I really enjoyed this book. The story was twisty and kept the reader on their toes. At the end of the day, Meghan needs to be more selective when choosing her friends.

I read an early copy of She’s Not Sorry by Mary Kubica (on my kindle) at the very beginning of the month, and have been sitting on my review for one simple reason. I needed a physical copy in my hands to look through, and check timelines, page breaks, formatting, etc. because something just didn’t make sense to me. In true Mary Kubica form, there’s multiple twists, turns, and big reveals throughout, but the REALLY big one stopped me in my tracks. I honestly sucked in a breath and paused for like five minutes. I even shook my head and whispered, “No. That’s impossible.” It made me want to go back and reread everything that I had just read. I needed to fact check, but found it impossible to do so on my kindle. So even after rereading bits and pieces in the finished copy, the big reveal still did not make sense to me. Things just don’t line up timeline-wise. It’s quite possible that I could have missed a few key details, and things went WAY over my head. Perhaps someone needs to hold my hand, and show me exactly what I missed.

After all that said, there was still a lot to love about this thriller. It was perfectly paced. Slow-burning for most, but then super steady when it needed to be. I also loved the eerie feeling that I got while reading it. It’s not very often that I have a physical reaction to a book. This one made me feel nervous, and I had butterflies in my stomach through most of it. I also loved the motherhood theme - specifically with a teenage daughter. The complicated female friendship was also fascinating to read about, along with the work/life balance as a nurse in the ICU. I inhaled this novel in a just a few sittings. It was addictive, sneaky, crafty, and super twisty.

Even with my confusion and ruminating on this one for an entire month, I’m still going to tell you to read it because the twist honestly was that good. I just wish things were more clear and executed a little better. For that reason alone, I sadly have to knock my rating down. It pains me to do this because Mary is one of my favorite thriller authors, but I’m going with 3/5 stars for this one.

She’s Not Sorry is a dark and twisty thriller that you will not be able to put down.

Goodness, I think this is Mary's darkest and twisty-est thriller yet. This book will hook you in right from the heart-pounding prologue and keep you guessing until the last page. I like this book; it's an additive thriller with plenty of unexpected twists and turns. This book follows Meghan, a single mom to a teenage daughter and nurse. Her life is quite hectic; she is newly divorced, living in a less-than-ideal neighbourhood, and her job is demanding. I really enjoyed Meghan's character. She felt real and relatable and was a great MC for a thriller novel.

There is a lot going on in this book. You have three mysteries unfolding at the same time. The first is around Caitlin, Meghan's patient, who was thought to have jumped off a bridge in a suicide attempt. However, as Meghan spends more time with Caitlin's family and when the cops get involved, Meghan soon realizes that something more sinister has happened in Caitlin's past. The next mystery is around women essentially being targeted and hurt in their neighbourhood. The last mystery is around Nate, a childhood friend of Meghan's who may be a victim of abuse. As this story unfolds, you find yourself trying to figure out if these mysteries are connected. There are a few mind-blowing twists in this book that will have you questioning every theory you may have and also questioning how well you really know these characters and their motivations. This book is such a well-developed and structured thriller. Mary just knocked this one out of the park.

She's Not Sorry is a heart-pounding thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time you read it.

NYT Bestselling author (a favorite), queen of suspense, and master storyteller Mary Kubica returns following Just the Nicest Couple with her ninth novel and best yet, SHE'S NOT SORRY.

This atmospheric, exhilarating, mind-bending, plot-and character-driven psychological/medical/crime/domestic thriller— with multiple twists and turns, two storylines, and unreliable characters, will keep you on the edge of your seat until the final jaw-dropping, intense climax!

Get ready for a WILD, clever ride where no one is as they appear!

Set in Chicago in the winter, Meghan Michaels, a single mom and an ICU nurse at the local hospital, is caring for a patient (Caitlin Beckett), age thirty-two, who has been brought in unconscious and is now in a coma after a suspected suicide attempt.

They think she jumped from a pedestrian bridge over the train tracks. She narrowly missed the train tracks and landed somewhere between them on the rocks. She was lucky to be alive. Meagan also has experienced suicide in her family (her younger sister).

Was it suicide, or was it murder? Will she wake up to tell the truth?

Meghan usually does not get too emotionally invested with her patients; however, the patient's family opens up to her, and then they find out she may have been pushed, not committed suicide, after a witness comes forward. It is in nurses' nature to be compassionate, and the two things (detachment and compassion) are at odds.

Megan is also a mother to her teenage daughter, Sienna. Things are tense in the city as a killer is on the loose attacking women. In a walkable city like Chicago, darkness lurks around every corner, from alleys, derelict buildings, and creepy parking lots to the L/train/subway/Red Line and the strong sense someone is following her.

Meghan becomes afraid of everyone around her as sinister things happen at home and the hospital surrounding this woman. Who is the creepy man visiting Catlin? What is going on with her daughter? The parents are worried about someone getting into Caitlin's room that shouldn't be there. But what if the danger is already inside?

Meghan becomes entangled in Caitlin's life, family, and mystery. However, the closer she gets, the more danger she puts herself and her daughter in.

What happened on the bridge? Someone isn't telling the truth. Mix in a kidnapping, an old friend at a divorce support group, domestic abuse, murder, an ex, a serial killer on the loose, an ex-con, mysterious envelopes, and so much more.

Wow! Kubica is a master of suspense like no other. She ratchets up the suspense while juggling complex characters you can relate to, placed in high-stakes situations with moral complexity.

You will never guess how the storylines will converge. Ample plausible twists, well-developed characters, riveting suspense, and a fast-paced plot make this a superb thriller. The scenes in the basement and the hospital room were heart-pounding!

SHE'S NOT SORRY is a dazzling, knockout, nail-biting, unputdownable psychological/medical thriller. It combines a multilayered plot, murder, unreliable narrators, and gripping suspense—it's unpredictable! Compelling and terrifying, Kubica fans will devour! Fans of Freida McFadden, the late author Michael Palmer (medical thrillers), and his son Daniel will appreciate the impressive medical research.

Mary's brilliant signature style keeps you on your toes, and her impressive lineup of hit titles keeps you returning for more. She is the master of this genre and one of my favorite authors. I have read all her books and anxiously await the next. It seems only yesterday I read her debut, which was ten years ago, and she keeps getting better, if possible!

Thriller lovers, get this on your spring TBR list! Top books of 2024! Be prepared to burn some serious midnight oil! Stay tuned for my #AuthorElevatorSeries Q&A (pub day) with Mary as we go behind the book and this mega-talented superstar author.

Thanks to Park Row Books and NetGalley for a digital advanced reading copy. I look forward to the audiobook narrated by the fabulous Andi Arndt.

Captivated by the allure of this thriller, I found myself immediately drawn into its world of suspense and mystery. From the very beginning, the premise intrigued me, promising a story that would linger in my thoughts long after the final page.

As I journeyed through the narrative, I became completely absorbed, unable to look away from the twists and turns unfolding with each chapter. The author's ability to keep me guessing, to maintain a sense of tension, was truly remarkable.

While certain aspects of the story didn't resonate with me, I still found myself invested in the overall narrative.

Other elements of the story more than made up for any shortcomings. The plot was meticulously crafted, with surprises awaiting at every turn, delivering the thrilling experience I anticipated from a thriller. Each revelation left me eagerly anticipating what would come next.

This thriller offers me an enthralling ride through its world of suspense and mystery. With its unexpected twists and heart-pounding suspense, it has kept me captivated, reaffirming my admiration for the author's storytelling prowess.

shorter chapters, my attention span is not the best for chapters that are over 10 pages. Overall loved the book though!

This book has many twists and turns. An amazing “who done it” page turner that kept my heart racing.

In this story we meet Meghan, a nurse in the ICU who is newly divorced. She lives with her 16 year old daughter Sienna, in a small apartment in a not so great neighborhood in Chicago. The other not so great thing is that someone is going around and violating women in the area. We also meet Caitlin, who is a patient of Meghans in the ICU. Caitlin is trapped in a coma and recovering from a self inflicted injury. She tried to kill herself by jumping off of a bridge at the train tracks. But later, police start to wonder if may be that wasn’t the case. They think she was pushed. Worst case scenario is if Caitlin wakes up and tells police what REALLY happened. Be careful who your friends are and be careful who you trust.

It's been a long time since I've read a twist that genuinely made my jaw drop. Well. It dropped.

Newly single mom and ICU nurse, Meghan, is trying to navigate through her life of juggling a teenage daughter and work. She's assigned the newest patient in the ICU, Caitlyn, who has survived a jump from a bridge, attempting suicide. As Meghan gets to know Caitlyn's family, things start to change from what they seem to be.

I loved how *almost* everything came together!
There were a couple of plot lines that felt unfinished or unnecessary. This was also a thriller where the author put a lot of details in the first half of the story, making it a little more dull.

Once I got through the 50% mark, it was so action packed and I couldn't put it down! I only guessed one of the twists, and even then, details were definitely surprising! This is definitely one of Mary's best books to date!

Thank you to Netgalley, Harlequin Trade Publishing, and Park Row for an eARC of this story! All opinions are my own!

SHE’S NOT SORRY Intrigued me right from the start and had me locked in for the whole story. The last 30% or so was pretty intense and there were multiple twists that I Did not see coming— somewhat jaw dropping ones, honestly. This was a wild ride and a really well crafted/executed thriller! I really liked this one— definitely recommend this as well as the author’s other book I’ve read (Local Woman Missing)

What a ride! This book was filled with twists and turns throughout the whole book. You didn't have to wait until the end for the twists - they were happening throughout the whole book! Definitely a top contender for my favorite Kubica book ever! I read this book in less than 24 hours because I could not stop and wanted to know what was going to happen next! There is one part I wish we found out answers to (but saying it would be a spoiler!) A definite read that everyone who is a thriller lover would enojy!

Wow. I was absolutely blown away by She’s Not Sorry! This was my first Mary Kubica novel, and I definitely get the hype. I received an early version of the book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The beginning was a bit slow and tedious to get into, but a few chapters in the pace picked up and I was hooked. We follow an ICU nurse named Meghan and her patients for the vast majority of the book, along with being introduced to her daughter and her ex-husband. We only see Meghan’s POV, but the development of the plot was WILD. I did not anticipate the big twist in this one, and it had me riveted.

It’s the perfect blend of thrill and suspense with no gore or over the top murder situations!
