Thank you to netgalley and to the publisher for this ARC. I don't often read mystery novels but the premise of this one seemed interesting! I enjoyed it but probably won't think about it ever again lol
An ICU Nurse accidentally uncovers her patient's frightening past- she's in a coma, seemingly because of an accident, but those around her have their doubts. I liked this one. I thought it had a lot of potential, but too many twists and turns for me, I like twisty, but these were too outlandish to be enjoyable. I also hated how many Chicago references were made- we get it!
Um, this book is bananas! Bonkers in the best way possible!
I could not put it down.
I was reading an advance copy and seriously thought there was a pretty major typo because I was so shocked by the twist I did not see coming. I was convinced there was a mistake in my copy because what I was reading just couldn’t be possible.
And that’s all I’m going to say about this one because you have to experience it yourself.
Okay this one had a lot of promise but suddenly it threw a lot of information at the reader at once. BUT I do have to say I highly enjoyed it. Were some of the reveals a bit over the top? Yes. Did I care? Absolutely not. I just devoured this book and enjoyed every moment.
This was not for me, unfortunately. I just couldn't get into the story, though that could be very different for other readers. I did think the premise was intriguing, however.
Mary Kubica's "She's Not Sorry," offers a gripping premise, psychological tension and loads of family drama. The story revolves around a mother, a daughter, and one shocking event that changes everything and shatters their seemingly perfect lives. The author's ability to create suspense is evident and she keeps readers engaged as the layers of deception unfold. As for the characters, to be honest, I have mixed feelings. While the protagonist is well-developed and relatable, some of the supporting characters felt a bit undercooked or like they lacked depth/development. I just wasn't genuinely emotionally invested. The pacing also fluctuates; certain chapters drag on, while others race by. Sometimes I couldn't wait to pick the book up, and other times I found days going by before I felt like getting back into it. The ending of the story felt a tad rushed, leaving some threads unresolved. I have to say, I really do enjoy Kubica's sharp and evocative writing, but the execution on this one just didn't quite hit the mark. It’s an entertaining read, especially for fans of domestic thrillers, but it may leave some readers wishing for a bit more cohesion and a little less predictability. Overall, it’s a solid addition to her repertoire and deserving of a respectable three stars.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!
I feel like Mary Kubic kicked ass and took names in this new She's not Sorry thriller.
I think this is MY ALL TIME FAVORITE of hers! While I read the ARC I did also listen to the audiobook and loved it even more.
I don't want to give too much away, but her talent of writing suspense novels is unprecedented and I'm here for all of it! Again this has one perfect twist that manages to make complete sense but also be something that still takes the reader by surprised. Great job by Kubica!.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this book! This was a decent thriller and one I’d recommend if you’re looking for a good poolside read. I did find the main character a little unlikeable and thought she made interesting decisions (but who doesn’t in a thriller. Not my favorite Kubica, but I’ll keep reading her books.
Unfortunately this one was a DNF for me.
I tried to push through because I loved the authors other book “Local women missing”. This book was super slow, I also felt like she spent so much time describing things that I didn’t need information on?
I truly appreciate being given this arc in exchange for my honest review, thank you NetGalley and to the publishers!
This was my fist Mary Kubica book, and I really liked it! I got the opportunity to see her at an author event, and I really enjoyed it. I can tell she is going to become one of my favorite mystery authors, and I cannot wait to read more of her books. I have started recommending her books to patrons looking for mysteries.
Wow!! A little bit of a slow start but once it picked up I was hooked. I loved the nurse / hospital elements, this totally reminded me of a lifetime movie! So many crazy storylines. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy!
I finished Mary Kubica’s book at 1:30 this morning. It took forever for it to get going. I almost quit it. It was well after 50% in but then it started slamming. It was really good. But readers will have a hard time with its take off and the way it’s written. The reader isn’t aware that most of the part one happens out of order. Really written weird. But it was a 4-star book. Once it started descending it went pretty fast.
Quick read with a few jaw dropping surprise twists. I found the protagonist a bit annoying and at times it was hard to feel sorry for her. There were plenty of times I questioned why she was so passive and why she didn’t question what was happening. This book also has a lot going on and includes several - what seem to be big - story lines at once. It was easy enough to keep track of each character. However, there were quite a few characters that were introduced with story lines that weren’t needed and there was no closure. I’m a huge fan of the author, but this one isn’t on my reread list.
Excellent mystery. I loved the premise and the surprises throughout. Great character building and plot development.
Meghan is an ICU nurse assigned to care for Caitlin, a patient who reportedly jumped off a pedestrian bridge. Caitlin lies unconscious, clinging to life by a fragile thread. Although she hasn’t been in touch with her parents lately, both her mother and father visit daily, with her mother refusing to leave the hospital.
Meanwhile, a man is terrorizing the community, brutally assaulting young women along the very route Meghan walks home from work—a distance of just a mile. She walks this path daily, while her daughter takes the city bus to school and is left alone at home until Meghan finishes her shift. This adds to Meghan’s growing anxiety about her daughter's safety.
This book was a compelling read that I couldn't put down. The characters are relatable, and the storyline is both engaging and thought-provoking. is a heart-throbbing thriller that I couldn't put down! The story pulls you in from the first page. The multiple well-executed mysteries in this book will keep you on the edge of your seat. Mary Kubica deftly juggles several plot threads, weaving them all together to keep you guessing.
Definitely recommend!
"She's Not Sorry" is a compelling psychological thriller that explores the darker aspects of human nature. Through a complex and intriguing protagonist, Meghan, the novel delves into the demanding world of ICU nursing and the lengths people will go to protect their loved ones.
Plot:
The novel centers around a mysterious woman in a coma, drawing Meghan into a web of secrets and lies. The story explores a multitude of sensitive topics, leaving readers with many unanswered questions.
My Issues:
The novel's pacing was slow at times, and the late introduction of the timeline confused me. The abundance of subplots and characters was overwhelming.
Final Thoughts:
"She's Not Sorry" is a thought-provoking and suspenseful novel that offers a glimpse into the complexities of human nature. It may not be for everyone due to its heavy subject matter.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Romance for sharing Kubricks newest read.
I really enjoyed this book, I read it all in one sitting! I have recommended it to a few friends who are readers so far and will continue to do so.
Thank you to Harlequin/Park Row for providing me with an ARC of this book. It’s one of those stories that’s so captivating, I’m kicking myself for not reading it sooner.
Meghan, now divorced from her husband Ben, lives with her daughter while balancing her demanding job as an ICU nurse. She left Ben due to his emotional distance and impatience, but her life is far from peaceful. One day, a woman named Caitlin arrives at the hospital after surviving a fall from a bridge, though she’s gravely injured. Meghan forms a connection with Caitlin’s parents, who request her as the primary nurse for their daughter.
Meanwhile, Meghan feels the pressure of juggling her job, motherhood, and the increasing threat of a sexual predator in her neighborhood. Her anxiety intensifies as she starts sensing someone following her on her way home from work.
This book will take you on a thrilling, unexpected ride. The twists were unpredictable and left me genuinely shocked. I won’t spoil anything, but the author brilliantly makes you question reality until the very end. As the story progresses, it becomes impossible to put down. If you love thrillers, this one is for you—grab your coffee because you’ll want to stay up late finishing it!
This book has a lot of potential. It started out great, but as it progressed it got crazier and crazier, each twist made it harder to believe. Even with this, the twists were very predictable. The back and forth between the present and past was confusing at times.
I want to thank Netgalley & Harlequin Trade Publishing, Park Row for an ARC of this book.
Another great thriller that kept me guessing the entire time with all the twists! No one can be trusted...
