Meghan is a nurse and divorced mom of a teenage daughter. She knows she shouldn't get overly involved with her patients but when a woman who jumped off a bridge, barely survived and is now in a coma comes into her care, she can't help but want to know why she jumped. But then things take a turn and now it sounds like maybe she was pushed off the bridge. On top of that women have been getting attacked in the neighborhood and an old high school friend is going through hard times and has sought Meghan out for counsel.

4.5 stars.

This was the best book I have read by this author in awhile but it wasn't without issues. Usually her books grab me from the start and the end is where things fall apart. This one, on the other hand, had a slow start and I was really a little bored for most of the first half until things started to pick up. Then I really got interested. I will say that when the big reveal happened, I was confused due to the timeline representation, but at least it was all tied together in an interesting way. I enjoyed it enough to read her next, when I was in danger of giving up on her. Overall a pretty good quick read.

I haven’t read a book by @marykubica that I haven’t LOVED 🥰 .. she quickly turned into an automatic read for me . I love how she always leaves me guessing until the very end while weaving a plot line of angst and thrills … “She’s Not Sorry” did not disappoint (my first 5⭐️ read in a while & the twist was 👌🏻👌🏻) . Be prepared to lose yourself (& a whole day 😬) binging this book - great for a snowy weekend !
Set to publish on 4/2/24 (soon !!)
THANK YOU @netgalley & @hqstories for the opportunity to review prior to publication .

From @goodreads :: “An ICU nurse accidentally uncovers a patient’s frightening past in this chilling thriller.
Meghan Michaels is trying to find balance between being a single mom to a teenage daughter and working as a full time nurse. While on duty at the hospital one day, a patient named Caitlin arrives in a coma with a traumatic brain injury, having jumped from a bridge and plunging over twenty feet to the train tracks below.
But when a witness comes forward with shocking details about the fall, it calls everything they know into question. Was Caitlin pushed and if so, by whom and why?
Meghan has always tried to stay emotionally detached from her patients, but this time, she mistakenly lets herself get too close until she’s deeply entangled in Caitlin’s and her family’s lives. Only when it’s too late, does she realize that she and her daughter could be the next victims.”

This was a fun, quick thriller! I'm not sure the plot will stick with me, but I very much enjoyed it while I was reading it.

A synopsis is tough because there's a lot going on - Meghan is an ICU nurse taking care of a woman who jumped (or was pushed?) from a bridge and is now in a coma. She's also reconnected with a friend from high school, and is worried about protecting her friend from her abusive husband. At the same time, women in their neighborhood are getting attacked, and she's worried for herself and her teen daughter.
*
Meghan annoyed me a bit at first, she's so safety-conscious when it comes to the attacker in the neighborhood but seems naive about trusting people she's just met. But this does eventually make sense. There was one twist I predicted early, but another one that was so unexpected, and the type that makes you want to go back and re-read sections.

I'm not quite clear on why the ending happened the way it did, it felt a bit forced, but was exciting. I definitely enjoyed and would recommend this!

4.25 stars. This was SO twisty. I loved the immediate feelings of eeriness. While it takes about 40% of the book to get to the “mystery aspect,” there is a good level of suspense and “not everything is at it seems” right from the jump. I loved the main twist itself and did not see it coming! I did not trust anyone in this book, which I always enjoy. I want to be on my toes during thrillers the entire time, and I was with this book. I think the pacing is perfect, and I think it would be a great audiobook as well for those that like to read that way.

I’ve never read anything by Mary Kubica before, but I do have a few of her books on my to-read list. This one seemed like a good one to start with in checking out Kubica. The book summary introduces the MC, Meghan, and the primary storyline so I’m not going to repeat any of that. What the book summary doesn’t mention is that in the process of checking out the bridge that Caitlin supposedly jumped or was pushed from, Meghan begins to develop some her own opinions of Caitlin’s predicament. There is also a secondary storyline of Meghan running into a former high school friend, Nat, that she hasn’t seen in more than 20yrs. It’s not long before it’s revealed that Nat is being abused by her husband. There is also another storyline of a man attacking and raping women in the area. All of this is revealed early in the story.

Most of the story revolves around Meghan watching over Caitlin and taking care of her daughter and reconnecting with Nat. Meghan is also getting to know Caitlin’s family better as well as helping Nat get back on her feet after leaving her husband, who was tracking her ever since she left him. It’s around this time that strange things start happening to Meghan around the building that she lives in that can’t be explained or at least not in any manner that doesn’t sound really weird or creepy.

The first half was the slow build up to the second half, and thus far, kind of boring – not much happening. It wasn’t until well into the second half of the story that a major element of the story is revealed that kind of pissed me off. I’m not going to go into the details though because that would be a spoiler. The end came pretty quickly after that. Thank goodness.

This was a weird story. I didn’t like any of the characters, including Megan. The pacing for most of the story was kind of slow and boring, the storyline was weird; I figured out who the attacker/rapist was in the first half. However, it was the writing style, the way a story flows, including how the writer wraps up the ending that bothered me the most. I’m sitting here looking at an overall rating of 2.5stars and vacillating on whether or not I should round up or down. I’m obviously an outlier. Enough said.

I want to thank NetGalley, Harlequin Trade Publishing, and Park Row for sending me this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to Harlequin Trade Publishing for an ARC of She's Not Sorry! If you're looking for a bingeable thriller, this is it!

ICU nurse Meghan works long hours at a hospital, and spends her off hours with her teenage daughter. After a recent divorce, things are different but she is finding peace with her new life. Then, Meghan reconnects with a high school acquaintance, Nat, at a divorce support group and realizes that Nat may need help getting out of an abusive relationship. Ever the helper, Meghan worms her way into Nat's life to help her start fresh. However, their relationship turns sour after Meghan learns that perhaps Nat wasn't completely honest with her. Things at work and at home spiral out of control and Meghan feels that she can't trust anyone.

Holy twists! The second part of this book provides so much suspense and crazy reveals, and I love how Mary Kubica revealed each one. I was truly shocked by the first one, and it made me want to go back and reread parts to see how I missed small clues of the impending plot. I raced through the pages wanting to learn what would happen! This book is full of tension, dark characters and shady morals!

She's Not Sorry publishes on April 2, 2024 and you will definitely want to pick it up immediately!

This was a heart pounding, extremely creepy, very well done book. The setting makes this so much better and adds wonderfully to this thriller. Total must read!

3.5 stars rounded up. (Spoilers are down below w/ a warning beforehand)

Right out the gate chapter one left me on the edge of my seat! But then it turned out to be a VERY slow start. I was about 50% in before I actually started getting into it. But don’t let that stop you because part 2 of this book was a PAGE TURNER! I couldn’t put it down.

-part one, like I said… slow.
the author went into unnecessary detail about EVERYTHING. So much so that I would forget what she was initially speaking on until she circled back pages later. It was interesting though, but not enough to say it was thrilling. It started to pick up towards the end of part one. I was finding myself wanting to read it more and more.

-part two, WOAH! What a shift in energy. I had to reread the first page to make sure I was reading it correctly and I was shocked. Definitely didn’t see that one coming. My heart was racing while reading this which doesn’t happen often. I was literally biting my nails with anxiety. This part had a lot of things going on that made me stress out. The ending and conclusion felt a rushed and the epilogue leaves you somewhat on a cliffhanger. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you read it.

Overall, I think it’s worth the read and I’ll definitely read more from this author.

Alright, do you guys think Ben had something to do with it… I think so.
-Also, is anyone else feeling like they wish they got more details when Meghan seen Caitlin in the hospital knowing she put her there?
- I also find it odd that no one put together the connection between Meghan & Caitlin. Maybe because there wasn’t an outside investigation since it was handled internally. Who knows?

A nicely twisty thriller with a sympathetic protagonist in Meghan. A nurse and single mom, she puts herself and her daughter in harms way when she gets too involved with Caitlin, her patient who was originally thought to have made a suicide attempt but who, as it turns out, was actually pushed. Then there's her old friend Natalie. Yes it's a tad implausible at times but it's a fast paced and entertaining read. Thanks to the publisher for the ARC. No spoilers from me.

WOAH! This was one heck of a twisty story! I will say I was suspicious of a few wrong people but also suspicious of the correct one early on too! But the twists and reveals were insanity! This book was definitely unputdownable! Finished it in one day! Also love that it was in Chicago and they mention Italian beefs, I miss Chicago food all the time especially Portillo’s and their delicious sandwiches! I can’t wait to read more by this author I have Local Woman Missing staring daggers at me from my TBR cart, it’s been there for way too long! Definitely recommend this twisty as heck thriller!

Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for this ARC! She’s not sorry was a great, fast paced thriller. There was a huge twist that I did not anticipate and then several more unexpected turns, in true Mary Kubica fashion. The story follows and is told from Meghan Michael’s point of view. She is a recently divorced, single mom and icu nurse caring for a coma patient whose supposed suicide came as a surprise. A fun “who dunnit?” for those who enjoy thrillers.
I did feel that the smaller twists towards the end of the book were more predictable and fell a little flat. The ending left some unknowns but I think that’s part of the charm.

5 stars!!! My gosh, this was such a fast paced thriller- and the twists! I have been so eager to read this one, and I found it to be right up my alley. I couldn’t put it down! Also loved that it takes place in my favorite city, Chicago. Huge thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the advanced copy. I really, really enjoyed it! Publication date April 2, 2024.

Meghan is a recently divorced woman living with her teenage daughter. She is a nurse and she has been assigned a patient who may or may not have jumped from a railroad trestle, but managed to survive her fall. She is also living during a time when a man in the city is attacking and raping women in her neighbourhood.

Meghan has a lot on her plate, but she is concerned for her daughter when she receives a call from her daughter’s phone by a man who demands she do what he says or her daughter will die.

Mary Kubica is a master of suspense and just like her previous book, LOCAL WOMAN MISSING, her newest novel SHE’S NOT SORRY has you on the edge of your seat. Does not disappoint!

Thank you to Netgalley, Harlequin Trade Publishing, and Mary Kubica for an advance copy of She's Not Sorry in exchange for an honest review. Holy smokes, Mary Kubica does it again!! I absolutely devoured this book and it took me out of a small slump I was in. We find ourselves meeting and ICU nurse, Meghan, who is taking care of Caitlin. Caitlin is currently in a coma and there is speculation to if she was pushed or not. Meghan finds herself diving into further and further into Caitlins life until she is completely intertwined. I literally was absolutely shook by this ending and I could turn the pages fast enough. This one is out on April 2nd, 2024 and it absolutely NEEDS to be on your spring thriller list!!

This book had so many twist & turns. There wasn’t just one thing to unravel, one big bad. Along the way in finding who did what smaller things were thrown into the story to make you question what is going on. I will say I was extremely confused, still am, when part one ended & part two began. Somewhere during part one during the back & forth something got lost that told me a timeline. Or maybe that’s just how the story was suppose to unfold. I’m still not clear how the timeline even works. But it didn’t mess with me too much and I still thoroughly enjoyed reading this one.

Thank you, NetGalley & Harlequin Trade Publishing for the opportunity to read this ARC before it comes out April 1.

Thank you Park Row Books for the advanced reading copy.

SYNOPSIS -- ICU Nurse, Meghan, already has a lot going on. A year post-divorce, she's the now-single Mom to a complicated 16 year old daughter and now has a patient triggering every one of her worst memories. Caitlyn Beckett is in a coma after jumping off of a pedestrian bridge. With a plethora of confusing people showing up to visit and little to no answers about her past, her presence is igniting memories that Meghan would love to forget. When a witness comes forward stating that Caitlyn didn't fall... she was pushed... things escalate, and quickly. Meghan works hard to detach herself from patients, but becomes entrenched in the events leading up to Caitlyn's fall and her confusing family dynamic. Can Meghan juggle all of the new and ever-growing roles that she is playing?

I LOVED this book. It was so fast paced and I could not put it down once I started, reading late into the night and first thing in the morning (and, let's be real, everywhere in between). Every single time that I thought I had a handle on things, Mary pulled the ground out from under me. There were some super confusing timelines and approx 100 suspicious characters, I was never sure who to blame. Tons of red herrings and misdirection made for a super fun story, start to finish. Meghan was a great character to narrate this story, and the unexpected ties between some of the plotlines and characters gave her such character depth, it was great to read.

I am so, so excited about this book. It was such a fun mystery and the kind of book you just want to devour. I didn't love Mary's last book (JUST THE NICEST COUPLE), and this book me back to the feelings of reading LOCAL WOMAN MISSING: absolute shock and delight at the places this story took us. I can't wait for more Mary Kubica and to discuss this at our book club meeting next month! It's sure to be a great one.

I absolutely loved this book. I read it in 2 days. She had me hooked and my heart racing. Great twist that you did not expect!!! I can't wait to read another book from this author. I hate reading books that you can predict what's going to happen but in this book what you think's going to happen is nowhere near what happens.. I think I found my next favorite author...

This is not the first book by Mary Kubica nor will it be the last but this one blew me away. I'm surprised how this book ended. It's not your normal every day story and will leave you thinking… omg!
Meghan an ICU nurse, is assigned a patient, Caitlin who jumped from a bridge and has a traumatic brain injury. Meghan is drawn into the family dynamics as Caitlin's parents anguish at her bedside. Meghan is struggling to start over as a single mother and move on after her husband left her. Intense work and new life struggles leave her trying to find her way. A book you won't soon forget.
Thank you, NetGalley and Harlequin Books for this eARC

Another excellent book by Kubica! Fast paced mystery that centers around a young woman named Caitlin, who ends up at the hospital after jumping off a bridge in what is believed to be a suicide attempt. One of the nurses caring for Caitlin becomes close to the family and gets tangled up in the mystery of what happened, especially after a witness comes forward claiming Caitlin was pushed. Top notch suspense that is difficult to put down.

**4.5-stars rounded up**

In She's Not Sorry, we meet dedicated ICU nurse, Meghan Michaels. Meghan is recently divorced and has primary custody of their teenage daughter, Sienna. As the Reader, you really get to know Meghan and follow her both in her work life and her personal life. Let me just say, Meghan has a lot going on.

Her divorce has caused a lot of self doubt and she's had to work extra hard to provide for herself and Sienna. Frequently reminding herself that she's done the right thing. The divorce was her choice. She felt she and Sienna deserved better than what her emotionally unavailable ex-husband, Ben, was providing; particularly when it came to Sienna. She had to move them out of their comfortable condo though, and into an apartment she'd be comfortable with financially.

Their new place isn't in the greatest area, with a few vacant buildings and parking lots surrounding their apartment building. Additionally, the L runs directly beside their flat, so that's a fun disturbance every hour. Sienna also has moods. She's a teenager, so typical stuff. That sums up Meghan's current home life.

At work, Meghan is assigned as the primary care nurse for a young woman, Caitlin, brought into their unit in a coma, suffering traumatic brain injury, after allegedly jumping from a raised pedestrian walkway. By all parameters Caitlin should be dead. She's holding on however, and Meghan becomes quite emotionally involved in her case, spending a lot of time with Caitlin's parents, the Becketts. She finds Caitlin consuming her mind.

Just when she thinks Caitlin's situation couldn't get any more disturbing, the police arrive on the unit. A new witness has come forward, stating they believe Caitlin was in an altercation on the bridge just prior to her fall. Does that mean someone pushed Caitlin, and if so, who?

With a man stalking the neighborhoods around Meghan's apartment, attacking women at their most vulnerable times, and the potential attack on Caitlin, her assailant still at large, Meghan begins to feel incredibly unsafe. How is she supposed to keep everyone safe?

Honestly, She's Not Sorry has A LOT going on, but it kept me enraptured. I was literally glued to the pages and had so much fun going on this journey with Meghan. I remember everything about this story. It was so memorable for me. In a world where constant Thriller, Suspense and Mystery stories begin to blend together, this one stands out. Well executed by Kubica!

This kicks off with a Prologue, though only a few pages long, absolutely gripped and stunned me. It grabbed me by the throat and said, 'hey, pay attention!!' Then the story truly begins. I would classify this as a slow burn, but I never mind that and loved how it was done here. The intensity steadily builds as more and more is revealed.

Kubica really gave me time to get to know and connect with Meghan. I absolutely adored her as a MC. I cared about her situation. I felt like I was reading about a friend. This is such a ride; an exciting read. There are so many twists, turns, and red herrings. Kubica would successfully lull me into a sense that I actually knew what was going on, and then, BAM, throw something new in my face. It was great; a lot of fun. I would recommend it to the world. Intriguing, suspenseful and full of drama. If you read for fun, escape, or for jaw-dropping intrigue, pick this one up!

Thank you so much to the publisher, Park Row, for providing me with a copy to read and review. If you don't have this added to your Spring TBR, you need to add it immediately.
