Loved this mystery thriller! Mary Kubica's story telling never seems to disappoint! I've already recommended it to multiple people who have preordered it!

This book felt to me like two separate books. I like those separate books, but together I felt overwhelmed. The story is thrilling. It’s a LOT. The twists truly shocked me. I think if it were two separate books I would love them both separately. The pace and tone were perfect for a thriller. I felt like yelling at the mc the whole time just turn around, don’t go down that dark alley, get some pepper spray, just be smarter. The main plot is super interesting and diabolical and I loved it. The subplots with the mc’s daughter get a little off track and took me out of the plot in the end. Same with other elements of the final scenes. I felt similarly about local missing woman. I LOVED it, until the very end and the suspension of belief at the end felt like too much of a reach for me. Her writing style is lovely though and she can write suspense, mystery, thrill, violence, and regret and more. I think it’s a good book anytime you are questioning everything and can’t trust anyone. Including family. The twist halfway through had me questioning what I had just read - literally, I had to go back and read the paragraph for a second time just to absorb the shock of it

What a great read! So many things happening, even a red herring! Those are my favorite! I thought I had it figured out but I was totally wrong. Great suspense and kept me guessing the whole time:

I have always loved how Mary Kubica can make a plot so twisty and tense. As someone who prides herself on guessing the plot twist, I was pleasantly surprised. I do wish that the ending was a bit better - I didn’t like the ambiguity the last chapter left us with

Wow!!! That’s all I can say about this book. As a nurse and avid reader I LOVED this book! I haven’t ever read anything by this author but I sure will be reading some more of her books! The twists in this book were amazing! This book for me was a 5 star and I can’t wait to read more of this author’s work.

Thank you Netgalley & Harlequin Trade Publishing, Park Row for allowing me to read an advanced copy of She's Not Sorry by Mary Kubica.

Megan Michaels is a divorced mother and ICU nurse living in Chicago. She's always looking behind her back when walking to and from work as there is someone in the area attacking women. She has a new coma patient (Caitlin) who had fallen off a bridge; however, things change when a witness comes forward claiming to witness the victim being pushed. Who's Caitlin and what happened to her?

What I liked: Mary Kubica did well with the tone of this story. It was wintery, dark, and mysterious. The story was a slow burn. The characters were fleshed out, yet enough was left unknown that led me to not trust anyone. There were descriptions of things happening that made me feel nervous often. It was an easy thriller to read.

What I disliked: A lot was happening from many different aspects of this story that didn't feel 100% cohesive. I feel like we could have done without the reveal of the person who was attacking women in the area. Either the whole thing shouldn't be included or it should have been used only to make the user feel more nervous about what is going on. I didn't care for it otherwise; it felt like a moot point in the story. Some of the pacing was slow burn, but some of it also felt overdescriptive. There were times we had a lot of scenarios about what could be happening as the main character thinks about them. I needed more action and less speculating. The twist was a little predictable for me; although maybe some who do not read as many thrillers may feel differently. Lastly the ending about what Ben may or may not know didn't feel very well executed either. And wouldn't he eventually find out more details about what happened later? It was just an odd execution.

Overall: I give this story 3 stars. I enjoy Mary Kubica's stories and will continue to read more of her books. I have a handful on my bookshelf as we speak. I could see this as a movie as it was very atmospheric and dark. I feel like this story could be portrayed better on screen.

Note: There are a lot of talks of domestic violence that could be triggering for some.

Meghan Michaels is dealing with a lot of stress. She’s recently divorced, trying to do right by her daughter, has a job in a busy ICU, and suddenly, a random attacker is targeting women across Chicago. Then, Caitlin is brought in as a patient. She allegedly tried to jump from a pedestrian bridge, but somehow survived, with massive trauma. As Meghan cares for Caitlin, more disturbing news comes in: Caitlin may not have jumped at all. Meghan becomes more concerned as events escalate and spiral out of control. Will she and her daughter be safe in a city that seems to be turned on its head?

Mary Kubica’s stand-alone thrillers are always a treat to read, never taking me long to read through, eager to get to the solution. And this was another winner. Man, I was flipping pages wildly by the end, unable to wait to find out how it ended - some guesses were right, some were wrong, but I was super satisfied, as always!

And of course, there was a HUGE twist that changed everything in there. I like that she doesn’t always wait til the end to throw the wrench in and gives time for the characters to have to deal with everything.

I won’t say anything about it, but I will say that while I liked it, I got confused about the timeline surrounding it. Things seemed to be linear, but with the twist, apparently they couldn’t be? It was the one point that got me in tangles. I wish it had been clearer.

But regardless, this was another edge-of-your-seat thriller that had me hooked. Pick this up if you love a good, suspenseful read that will keep you up reading late into the night!

The only reason I didn’t finish this book in one sitting is because life duties like dinner and such got in the way. That’s how good this book was.

From the start I couldn’t put it down, I needed to know what was going to happen next. Just as soon as I would catch on to something, I was sent for another twist and down a different path. Mary Kubica has such a way with hooking you in, and constantly making you dizzy trying to figure out what’s going on. I liked that it wasn’t so dark and twisty that I was disturbed while reading it. Also, can we get a story about Caitlin’s family!? And does Ben know what’s going on!?

I still have questions but this was such a good read! Thank you NetGalley and Mary Kubica for the advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

She’s Not Sorry by Mary Kubica is a classic thriller that hooked me from the first page and kept me reading until I knew what happened.

I’ve been a big Mary Kubica fan for years. She’s Not Sorry is one of her best yet! I couldn’t put this book down. I went in blind, but if you’ve enjoyed Mary Kubica in the past you’ll love She’s Not Sorry.

I enjoyed that Mary Kubica’s novels take place in Chicago, in a neighborhood I lived in for years. It was me able to imagine the story being played out.

If you’re in the mood for a fast paced thriller, be sure to pick up She’s Not Sorry.

I really was on the fence about this one for quite a while - there were a lot of great details but in other places, it was confusing. It was a prolonged build, which seems to be unique for the author as her books were generally well-paced. The characters were pretty interesting though - I liked reading about this cast of characters. This just was not it for me at all.

thanks to Net Galley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the opportunity to review this!

She’s Not Sorry by Mary Kubica
Pub date: April 2, 2024

This is one of the twistiest thrillers I’ve read in a while! Meghan Michaels is a newly divorced critical care RN, living with her teen daughter in a fairly rough neighborhood. When a young woman comes in having seemingly jumped from a bridge, Meghan is assigned to take care of her. It’s a disturbing case made all the more disturbing because there’s a rapist on the loose in the neighborhood, following women home and attacking them. Meanwhile, Meghan is disturbed by a number of coincidences surrounding Caitlin and the people in both of their lives. Did Caitlin jump or did someone push her? Is that person following Meghan?

This story had a chokehold on me! This right here is why I’m such a Kubica fan and why I love a good thriller that can still shock me. Revealing too much will spoil this story, so I’ll stop right here but not before I urge anyone who loves a complex and gripping (yes, I said gripping – ugh) thriller that will lead the reader down a merry path of guessing, second guessing and then come right back around again. It was fantastic!

Thrilling, gripping and completely unpredictable! Loved this one so much!

Once I got into the story, I couldn’t put it down. Some of this novel reminded me of The Silent Patient but in other ways it was better cause I liked some of the characters. Great story with tough choices made. Open ending to keep you guessing as to what really happened.

When I say a love a good thriller! I love a good thriller.

This was a great read that had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what would happen next.

Meghan is an ICU nurse who is currently taking care of a woman in a coma. Something is astray within the first few pages and sets up the story for a wild rollercoaster. There’s a killer on the loose and a woman who might not have committed suicide.

I loved how everything connected together in the end but that little cliffhanger at the end… oh my gosh. I feel like I need a little more of an explanation at the end but I can kind of fill it in myself.

I would recommend anyone to read this. It’s worth reading!

Meghan is an ICU nurse and single mom. Although she tries not to get attached to her patients, she can't help but be pulled to Caitlin, a woman in a coma with a traumatic brain injury due to her fall from a bridge. Was it suicide? Did someone push her? She wants to find out Caitlin's story. But Meagan is also still dealing with the aftermath of her divorce and while attending a support group, she runs into Natalie, a woman that she went to high school with over 20 years ago. Natalie appears to be in abusive relationship with her husband, and even though she won't open up, Meagan wants to help her any way she can. As a nurse, Meagan's heart is always to help others... but sometimes secrets should stay hidden. (And there are a lot of them in this book!)

The beginning of the book was a bit of a struggle for me, but once you see a big twist coming, things really get interesting. At that point, the story became fast-paced with secrets being revealed all over the place. Overall, an enjoyable read that will keep you guessing until the end.

I knew that this would be a good book because Mary Kubica is a fantastic writer and this book was no exception. What I didn't anticipate however would be how fast I would get hooked and how hard it would be to do other things. This book centers around our main character Megan who is a nurse at a local hospital. Megan is given the task of looking after a young woman (Caitlyn) who is in a coma after a recent suicide attempt. Or at least that is what we are led to believe. The more that Megan digs into Caitlyn's past the more she discovers that not everything is as it seems and Caitlyn might not be as good as she previously thought. I really liked Megan right off the bat. She had lots of redeeming qualities and I liked how the story was told through her point of view so it let the reader slowly discover what actually happened to the Caitlyn, and the more her story unfolded the more I was left gasping. This book was perfect because while there were so many twists there was just enough not to confuse the reader with a lot of useless information. I loved the plot line of this book and I loved the characters even more. Everything was so magically written that I found myself submerged in the story and desperate to find out what was going on. This fast paced thriller is one that you won't want to miss. And if you are the kind of person who has to figure things out before the reveal and this is the perfect book because all of the twists and red herrings make that a very hard but fun challenge to complete. Just like Mary Kubica's other works this is one that will be glued to your side until it is finished because you won't be able to put it down. And the ending... man oh man, all I can say is you have to read this one! Right when I thought it couldn't get better it broke through the glass ceiling. Great read and I can't wait for the release date so I can start recommending it to everyone I know.

Just finished She’s Not Sorry and I really liked it. It had me totally hooked….and, it was set in my hometown, Chicago, and at my hospital! It was really awesome to read about places I know and love so much.

Meghan is a nurse who is looking after a comatose patient. At first we think it’s a suicide however, we come to learn that Meghan’s patient was pushed. As all of this is going on, there is a local predator hunting women in the streets of Chicago.

As Caitlyn’s family comes, Meghan is slowly learning bits and pieces about her patient’s life. She comes to realize that may be her. Patient wasn’t such a great woman after all. She becomes kind of overly involved. All of this mingled with a curious high school friend returning, a contentious divorce, and a teenage daughter.

It all comes together though, in the end. A few twists were obvious, but a few really threw me! However, the ending kind of disappointed me, but I’m someone who doesn’t like endings like that.

As always, Mary Kubica does not disappoint. 4 solid stars.

The beginning of the book made me hesitant to continue. The author gave the sense of over-explaining medical devices/practices which made it feel as if she was just looking to increase word-count. Being in healthcare, I may have more insight than an average reader but even if some of the details were not shared, the average reader would still have been able to understand a critical care setting. After the initial 30% or so, the book became a page turner with multiple mysteries that make the reader guessing----the relationship between Declan and Nat, Meghan's patient and the mysterious man that lingers, and an event happening at Meghan's apartment building while there is a madman on the loose assaulting women. These ideas lead the reader to continue guessing what is going to happen next and if/how these things are connected. The story continues with many layers, a brother showing up to the hospital with a story that doesn't add up, a "friend" showing up with obvious distaste for Caitlin's parents. The story starts coming together at an odd point, essentially the mysterious stranger that gives Meghan bad vibes shows up out of the blue, seeking Meghan out. Half-way through, the reader is hit with a huge twist that you didn't see coming and then slowly all of the pieces start falling into place.

ICU nurse Meghan Michaels is taking care of coma patient who jumped from a pedestrian bridge in Chicago. Or did she? There's also a rapist on the lose, attacking women as they enter their apartments alone. Early on, Meghan runs into an old friend from high school at a divorce support group and immediately suspects she's being abused by her husband. The story had potential, but it turned into a big mess of weak red herrings, insignificant side plots and stupid decisions. The scene from the prologue doesn't re-emerge until probably 3/4 of the way into the book, at which point you've totally forgotten about it and it upsets the timeline that you thought the story was on in a confusing way. The rapist is obvious from the moment the character is introduced and questions are left unanswered at the end because Meghan would prefer to be oblivious to the truth. I think? To me, it was a few too many ideas put into one story making them all too weak.

I loved this book. It was unpredictable and the tension kept building. I seriously read it in one evening and thoroughly enjoyed.

What the heck was this?

First of all, I understand an ARC isn't going to be perfect and there will be errors throughout. That's fine. But there were zero page breaks in the formatting, which made it really confusing to figure out timelines. You'd be reading a scene and then the next paragraph is a new day, new location. It was jarring and unexpected because it threw me for a loop and I had to go back and see if I missed something, only to determine there was probably a page break that never got formatted.

Here's where this book went wrong for me. Possible spoilers will be tagged.
- Too many things going on at once. I kind of went in blind (read the synopsis forever ago but forgot what it was about by the time I got the ARC) so most of this book was a surprise. Was it about her divorce? The man assaulting women throughout her city? The gal in the ICU? Her friend that came back into her life? The Beckett family who seemed to have a ton of secrets, including the brother who was def hiding something? I feel like if she focused on one or two of these things, it would have worked. Not all of them.
- The pacing. Holy shit this was rough. It was so slow. I had no interest in any of the characters, including the main one, Meghan. She seemed kind of...dumb? I can't place my finger on it. But she wasn't too bright. It's hard to continue a book when you don't give a damn about anyone or anything. I think 65% if finally felt like things were "picking up."
- Mary spent wayyyyyyy too much time describing where Meghan lived. Listen, I don't need to know street signs and landmarks. I don't need to know--as she's chasing characters down the road--what the air felt like and how the trees smelled or the way the buildings looked in the shadows of the afternoon. I'm being harsh. But I skimmed PAGES (maybe a single page if we aren't talking paperback as opposed to my Kindle setting) of random crap and info you don't need to know about in this story. Like apartment layouts and hospital info that gave nothing to the story but filler.
- One "twist" was so freaking obvious, I was like wait a sec. (view spoiler) I feel like she got her twists confused and wanted to have too many that ultimately didn't work. You also need to create more red herrings if you want to play out one that she used in the book. That was lazy writing and honestly, I was really pissed.

Also Meghan just DROPPING THIS BOMB on her friend and confessing....SPOILER...was outrageous.

What else? I don't know. This just didn't feel like her writing. To compare this to The Other Mrs. is blasphemy. Those are two different worlds, two different books. I gave Mrs. five stars. Loved that book.

I don't know about this one. If you love Mary's books, you'll love this one. If you're on the fence and always rating maybe 3 stars or less, you might not like this one. Skip it. Or read it, come back and read my review, and let me know what you think. Am I crazy? Too harsh? Probably. But this one really fired me up.
