There's nothing I enjoy more than a thriller that takes place in a medical setting and this book did not disappoint.

"She's Not Sorry" is definitely a slow burn, twisted and full of surprises. Meghan Michaels is an ICU nurse and a single mom of a 16 year old daughter. She oversees a patient that attempted suicide by jumping off a bridge or so they assume. She tries not to get attach to the patient's family but finds it harder to stay emotionally detached from this particular patient. There are two different storylines here. Aside from the patient she's treating, there's a serial rapist that is attacking single women in her area. She also reconnects with an old high school classmate, who is dealing with an abusive husband but later realizes that not everything is as it seems. But Kubica did a great job connecting everything together in the end.

This book still doesn't top my fave from Kubica-"Local Woman Missing". Don't get me wrong, this was full of suspense, but I felt like the plot had a few gaps and too much going on. I did have my suspicions early on but this book kept me guessing until the very end. Overall, another great novel from Mary Kubica!

Many thanks to NetGalley, Harlequin Trade Publishing, and the author for my ARC, which I had the pleasure of reading. All opinions are my own. Publication date: April 2, 2024.

I absolutely loved this thriller!
There is so much that is woven in to this story that I had no idea what the end result would be.
I thought I did, but I was not close to solving this suspenseful , twisted, mystery!
The main character, Meghan, is an ICU nurse.
This is where we first meet her patient Caitlin, who is in a coma following a horrific injury. after attempting suicide.
She is young and it is not easy for Meghan to care for her, but she does her best.
However- this is only the beginning as we turn the pages and learn of Caitlin's family and injuries as well.

I waited with bated breath as I started each new chapter and was totally invested in this novel!
Believe me, this is not at all what you think! I will not give more away, but if you enjoy psychological suspense and a shocking plot you will really love this book! I know I did!
Thank you to @Netgalley and to @Harlequin Trade Publishing for this incredible ARC and allowing me to read and provide my own review.

Mary Kubica does it again! She is an auto buy author for me so when I saw this on NG I knew I wanted to read it! I was NOT disappointed.

I truly loved this book, it was so clever. And while I may have seen some of the twists coming there was some parts I had no idea. I thought the multiple plot lines worked well all together and I was a fan of the ending.

I would rate this book a 4/5 stars. The only reason I deducted a star was because I think there was more room for a specific plot point. But thats just my observation.

I highly recommend this book! Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publishers for a copy of this work in exchange of an honest review

This book was very well written. I think there should've been either more detail about how Caitlin brother was hiding things or take that part out of the story all together. There were times when as a reader, I was lead to believe that Caitlin's family had some big secret, but nothing was ever followed up with about that.

📚 She's Not Sorry
✍ Mary Kubica
📖 Thriller
⭐4/5

➡Recently divorced trauma nurse Meghan Michaels tries to separate the stress of her job from the stress of raising a daughter on her own. But when a patient named Caitlin arrives in a coma after jumping from a Chicago bridge, memories of her own past resurface, making nearly impossible to separate the threads of her life.

As details of Caitlin's accident begin to emerge, Meghan must work to untangle the web of lies that Caitlin has told from her own and when she does, she realizes that no one around her is who they seem to be.

🙏 Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the advanced copy of She's Not Sorry. All opinions are my own.

🎯 What I loved: This book was packed with crime, drama and psychological twists. There are a lot of seemingly unrelated characters and you're never quite sure who is telling the truth, which was a great way to tamper some of the truly heinous activity taking place in the background. It was propulsive and felt fast paced and I wanted to see what would happen next. There were multiple big twists so it really kept momentum until the very end.

🙅‍♀️ What I didn't: There were so many crimes happening to different characters that it was difficult to keep track of everything and everyone and even though most threads saw resolution, there were a few loose ends that really bothered me ( i.e. what happened with Caitlin's family?) and felt sloppy. There are also a TON of trigger warnings to be aware of before reading this book, so make sure to take care or adjust course as necessary.

Read if you love:
*multiple crimes/perpetrators with one unifying storyline
*big twists that will have you second guessing everything you just read
*

Book: She’s Not Sorry
Author: Mary Kubica
Publisher: Harlequin Trade Publishing
Pub Date: April 2, 2024

I have read several Mary Kubica books and this is my least favorite. It’s a very slow burn and at one point during the book I wasn’t even sure what direction it was heading or what the dominant story line was. Meghan is an ICU nurse and is taking care of Caitlin who fell from a bridge and suffered a severe brain injury. After a witness comes forward they now believe that Caitlin was pushed. Meghan herself is recently divorced and struggling to raise her teenage daughter Sienna. Along with that comes concern for her safety because a madman is loose and attacking women in her area. (This served no purpose to me whatsoever.) The prologue was misleading which set the tone for the book. I’m not one for spoilers and I don’t believe this is but it would have helped me tremendously if I had known this….a large portion of the book is taking place in the past. Maybe that was suppose to be a twist but it just fell flat for me and was annoying. I predicted the ending from the beginning. There’s several storylines and some of the “subplots” ended without a resolution. It’s described as a tense compelling thriller. It’s far from that but the idea behind the plot is very interesting. All that said if you are a Kubica fan don’t dismiss this book. It’s still a decent read I just would have done a few things differently. My last note on this book said “way too much is going on.”

Thank you Harlequin Trade Publishing and NetGalley for this sneak peak! Publication date is April 2, 2024.

I'm a huge fan of local woman missing and was excited to get an advanced copy of this book but I did struggle with how slow the first half of the book. This book is the definition of a slow burn.

Meghan is a divorced mother of 1 teenager and she is a nurse for the ICU. She gets assigned to a young patient who attempted suicide or so they think. She becomes involved in trying to figure out what happen to her patient. All the while an old high school friend comes back into her life and there also a man who is assaulting young women in their homes. Multiple storylines going at the same time and I struggled because I felt like they all moved so slow and nothing was really happening. Once I got to 60% then action finally started and it got good and was something I couldn't put down. For that I will give it 4 stars. All the storylines come together for a shocking twist.

Thanks Netgalley for the ARC.

Meghan is a ICU nurse and has been taking care of Caitlin who fell from a bridge and is in a coma. Meghan has worries about her patient, with good reason and things start getting strange. Megan gets trapped in the basement of her apartment, she gets an anonymous note with bitch written on it, and then her daughter is kidnapped. Who is doing all of these things and is it related to her ICU patient?

There are twists and turns and the character development is done very well. I enjoyed this book and will be recommending it to my friends when it is released in April of 2024.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of Sheś Not Sorry.

Mary Kubica hooked me with her first book and has reeled me back again and again ever since. I nearly missed the email saying I had been approved through NetGalley and was so excited I was.

From the description, “An ICU nurse accidentally uncovers a patient’s frightening past in this chilling thriller…”

Mary Kubica knows how to craft a tense story. I feel her earlier work was more thriller/suspense and her last few have leaned toward the domestic suspense side, both of which I enjoy. She’s Not Sorry delivers on the twists and turns, almost too many. Because when I got to the end, I had to flip back and check if I missed something.

She’s also mastered the art of pacing and delivering multiple POVs. So you have to keep up and just when you think you might have things figured out, there’s something left waiting for you on the next page. With multiple storylines to contend with and not-so-reliable characters, you’re second-guessing everyone at every turn, which makes the reading experience all the more fun.

I’ll still be purchasing this one when it comes out to add to my MK collection and eagerly await what comes next.

This was one of the better Mary Kubica books I've read. She always tells a great story and creates tension from the very first page. But sometimes I feel like her endings are a little too twisty and unbelievable. This one was just about perfect. From the very first pages, I was hooked on the story of Camden and his wife Jules. Camden, the adopted son of a wealthy North Carolina heiress, became her sole heir ten years ago when she died, leaving everything to him and nothing to her sister or her sister's family. But Camden didn't want it. He walked away from it all, including the vast estate and mansion where he was raised, and has never looked back, doling out funds to his family as needed but not touching the money for himself. And then his uncle dies. And he gets an email from his cousin. "Please come back and let's work this out," it says. So reluctantly, he goes. And then tension builds, the story progresses, and BAM! We have a near perfect thriller.

I’ve read a few of Mary Kubica’s thrillers before, but this one fell a little short. She’s Not Sorry is a very slow burn thriller with a lot of twists and turns. Meghan is an ICU nurse who is caring for a comatose woman while navigating raising her daughter post- divorce.

I really loved the main character Meghan- she was grounded and selfless which is rare to see in s thriller! However, there are just way too many plot lines in this book and none of them are resolved until the very end. I appreciate the author trying to create this interactive web of plot lines, but it was honestly confusing and hard to believe.

She's Not Sorry by Mary Kubica

⭐⭐⭐⭐

📚 The best kind of twist is one that absolutely stuns me, but when I look back at the story, I realize I could have put it all together with the clues the author gave me. The main twist in this story was THAT good. Meghan, an ICU nurse, finds herself tangled in multiple storylines: caring for an attempted suicide patient in the ICU, helping an old friend from high school who is being abused, worrying about the serial rapist stalking her town, caring for her angsty teenage daughter. There are many (maybe one too many) subplots in this novel, and they don't all connect in the end like I had assumed they would, but wow, was this a fun read!

💊 In the novel, Meghan recounts doing CPR on patients in her role as an ICU nurse:
"A code blue is not a gentle process. CPR is violent. Bad things happen to patients in an often vain attempt to save lives. Of the people who go into cardiac arrest in the hospital, most don't live, and of those who do, many have a permanent neurologic disability and few live meaningful lives." This is so spot on. There is only about a twenty percent survival rate for in-hospital resuscitation attempts. Thirty percent of CPR recipients end up with fractured bones/ribs. And only roughly ten percent of those patients end up leaving the hospital alive.

Thank you to Netgalley and Harlequin Books for the gifted copy of this book and the opportunity to review early. This review was published on Oct 25, 2023 on Instagram and Goodreads.

Meghan is such a realistic character. Everything she does, a real person would do.
I tend to try to call out the ending of a story I read. However with this one, I definitely didn't see this one coming. There was just one unexpected outcome. There were unexpected occasions throughout the whole book. Very good read.
