All Alexis Stone wants is to have a one night stand. But somehow she’s roped into fake dating the future governor of Texas.
Fake dating set against a political backdrop? I’m here for it. I loved every second of this novel. The pacing was excellent and it made me keep reading (even when I was on lunch break at work) and the character development was great! I truly felt like Alexis and Logan grew as people.
The tension…. Oh my lord, Logan was such an idiot but I’m 100% here for it. A man going insane? I’ll devour that any day.
The spice was PERFECT. There were only two open door scenes, but the two kissing scenes were almost just as steamy. I really enjoyed the amount of tension, it was fluttery - WHICH IS A GREAT THING!
This was one of the best romances I’ve read lately, I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to fans of Elle Kennedy or Ali Hazelwood.
The Boyfriend Candidate by Ashley Winstead is a beautiful and funny story about Alexis and Logan. Alexis has been down on herself after her cheating ex told her she wasn't good in bed. She decides to go out and have a one-night stand. While at a bar that was dubbed "the best for hookups" by her sister, she meets Logan. Her plan works at least until the unthinkable happens, a fire alarm. Logan has had a stressful time in his office so he goes to the bar to blow off steam. He meets Alexis and everything changes from the moment she looks at him. Yet being caught by the media was not his plan for the night. Logan is running for governor. Alexis, even though her sister is the famous Senator Lee, she didn't know who he is. Logan needs to save his reputation, so he proposes (meaning his team does,) the idea that Alexis and him fake date.
I loved this book. While I don't love having too much politics in my reading, Logan and his view were refreshing and good. I loved how Alexis grew so much throughout this book. Logan learning he wasn't a failure was beautiful. I truly loved this book and the way it's written. While their relationship is messy and fake it is at times. You can see how real the connection is. Their chemistry is everything, and I truly believe you will love this book!!
They are some steamy scenes and the tension so well does it leaves you angry but keeps you reading.
Thank you Netgalley for this amazing read.
I liked the premise of The Boyfriend Candidate, and I liked the writing style and flow of this story.
I didn't really fell any chemistry between our MCs. LIke, I felt zilch. They could have been people working in the same office building but on different floors, only every sharing the lift together. I didn't end up caring if they got together or not really.
Also, some of the subject matter made me feel like I should have been cramming for an exam the next day. We get it, the education system is broken, but to me it took away from what could have been a good relationship between Logan and Alexis if more was put into their romance instead of the political side of the story.
These are just my feelings though, and I am sure many are going to love all of it.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an eARC.
Alexis is a librarian who finally finds the courage to go out and rediscover herself after a terrible break-up with her cheating ex. She heads out to a club dressed in a tiny dress where she meets Logan, a gorgeous politician with a temper and foul mouth. The two have undeniable chemistry and when they're caught by the media together, Logan asks Alexis to pretend to be his girlfriend until the elections are over.
This book was fun. The chemistry between Alexis and Logan was pretty much on fire the whole way through and I loved their characters individually and together. Logan was an awesome male lead and I wish we'd gotten his POV in the book somewhere. The story was fast-paced and easy to read for the most part, except when the whole political side of the story came in, which in my opinion, took away from the otherwise excellent romance. THe romance definitely took a bit of a backseat but the characters were interesting enough to keep my attention. Overall, a fun romcom that I'd recommend to anyone who likes a little more politics than romance in their romcoms.
I really enjoyed this book!
It was a great mix of politics (campaigning), humour, romance, and self exploration.
I loved Logan. He was great.
Alexis was also good, but I wished we had more background of hers, and a physical description wouldn’t have gone astray.
I liked how this wasn’t angsty, and the humour wasn’t embarrassing. I also really loved Zoey.
This was a solid book, but you have to know Tottenham are colloquially known as spurs, not the hotspurs.
Also, Tottenham? 🤮🤮🤮
