I can always count on Fallon Ballard to deliver a heart felt romance that can leave you squealing!
I loved that it was set in a rom com movie set which added an interesting level of irony to the story. It allowed for a lot of consistent side characters too, many of who were well written and hilarious.
This was a third act break up that I could’ve done without, especially because the book started with so much tension. It was luckily resolved quickly and we moved on to the happy ending quickly.
Nah this book was not for me. I ended up skipping through the last 59 pages or so. The drama or conflict at the end was so annoying and unnecessary. I hate a miscommunication trope. I also am just not into acting at all so this book didn't really interest me in the slightest.
I was initially drawn to this book simply because of the author. Falon Ballard is one of my favorites, as is her book Lease on Love. I was rather giddy for this one - a romcom, a second-chance romance, with a movie element? Totally was excited for it!
However, for me the romance fell flat. There were no sparks, no moments where I felt anything was genuine. The miscommunication at the end really missed the mark for me as well, its not a trope
I'm particularly fond of anyway, but in this book I felt as though it just was really flat and that it went nowhere.
I however absolutely loved the "behind the scene" moments, learning about how a movie is made, the casting, the directing - those were elements that I considered to be done well.
Falon continues to be an auto-buy author for me, and I look forward to her next book!
This one was cute but a bit predictable . Fair warning I had just finished reading another book that had a very similar plot prior to this so it may have made me a little worn out on this storyline. I will say I really enjoyed the characters in this one and thought the third act conflict while had a lot to do with miscommunication was fun but again it has been done before. I’d say if you want a fun cute quick read about enemies to lovers romance this is a fun read but don’t expect anything ground breaking or new. I would like to thank NetGalley and the publishers for a chance to read this book for an honest review.
Didn’t love as much as her first two books but still cute. Just wasn’t as obsessed or hooked as I wanted to be if I am honest.
Right on Cue by Falon Ballard was the perfect pick-me-up to get me out of a reading slump. It was a quick and witty read that left me full of emotions.
Falon Ballard, an author I eagerly await for each release. This book surpassed my expectations!
5/5 recommend picking this up for your next read!
I loved this one and will officially read anything by Falon Ballard. I loved the premise, the tropes, and the characters. Highly recommend for fans of contemporary romance.
I couldn’t finish this book. I got halfway through and couldn’t continue. The story is told from the perspective of the female main character, Emmy. She's written a screenplay and is considered a great rom-com screenplay writer. The first movie she ever acted in was a flop and she never acted again because of Grayson her co-star then and her co-star now. She had to star in the movie she wrote and agreed when there was a different male lead. But when she got to the location the director and her best friend told her of the costar change. My issue with this book is that all she does is complain. Every chapter is her complaining and I thought it would slow down as the couple got closer but no it's the same. And since it's told in first person from Emmy, we hear all her internal thoughts and ALL her complaining. I just couldn't take it anymore.
I've read Falon's other two books and loved both of them. Right on Cue was another amazing book by her! I tend to steer away from Hollywood romance, no reason in particular they are just not my favorite romance setting for a book. But this one was pretty good.
If you're a fan of romantic comedies, *Right On Cue* by Falon Ballard is a must-read! Emmy Harper, a talented director, finds herself reluctantly stepping into an acting role for her new movie. To make matters worse, she’s paired with her longtime rival, Grayson West. While I knew this was going to be an enemies-to-lovers story, Emmy's intense dislike for Grayson had me worried they’d never warm up to each other.
At first, I found Emmy’s character a bit hard to like—she’s pretty stubborn and difficult, which did take away from my enjoyment. However, Grayson more than makes up for it. He’s the epitome of sweet and charming, quickly becoming my favorite part of the book. The chemistry between them eventually becomes irresistible.
What really stands out in *Right On Cue* is the mix of beloved romance tropes—enemies-to-lovers, cozy winter cabin, forced proximity, and the classic "he falls first." These elements come together to create a delightful, heartwarming read that I thoroughly enjoyed. If you love a good romcom with a bit of tension and a lot of heart, give this one a try! Four stars from me.
Another cute romcom from Falon Ballard but it missed the mark for me. It’s a quick read yet it still dragged. I didn’t feel the chemistry between Grayson and Emmy and it left a sour taste in my mouth. I just needed more from it.
Right on Cue might be my new favorite book by Falon!
I loved it so much more. The chemistry between Emmy and Grayson was everything! I really liked how the side characters added to the story. I was rooting from Emson the entire time even through their miscommunication snafu.
Thanks to Netgalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam| G.P. Putnam’s Son for a copy of Right on Cue in exchange of an honest review.
Falon Ballard is a dazzling voice in the romance world. This book is a delight from start to finish, full of tension and a sentimental journey from enemies to lovers for Emmy and Grayson. Falon does not miss!
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of Right on Cue
by Falon Ballard
I enjoyed this book, it really starts off as a Hallmark movie.. gone wrong. Emmy is forced to reluctantly returned to acting after an actor when she was younger made her run to behind the scenes writing, who might be her co star? None other then Grayson *Fucking* who she now has to act like she is in love with..
So this is good and I liked it for the most part but the issue I have is two things. The first is the miscommunication, I hate it and it was so relevant in this story it started getting annoying. The second is the third act breakup which was unnecessary and was all due to miscommunication. Again it was good and it might be me but those two things knocked it down for me.
I love the way Falon writes romance, I am always laughing out loud and so happy when reading her books- and I do love me some Hollywood themes.
"Right on Cue" is about a screenwriter former actress, pushed back into a leading role, opposite the main she cannot stand. (Cue enemies to lovers wooo!) The chemistry and tension are wonderful, but of course they are- it's Falon! Enjoyed it thorougly, Falon has been solidified as an auto-buy author for me.
*Gifted e-book copy via Netgalley/G.P. Putnam's Sons - thank you! All opinions/reviews are my own (I did buy a paperback copy myself, too!)
This story wastes no time getting good. The meet-not-so-cute is fun, Emmy’s personality is funny to listen to and the quaint, isolated setting and the small cast of characters made it so easy to cozy up in to the story. This book is a bit meta in the fact that it absolutely FEELS like a cheesy romcom, and it’s about filming a cheesy romcom. I liked the banter and faux-hate. I loved the enemies to lovers to friends route the story took. Grayson and Emmy are both deeply flawed but easy to love. Even as Emmy lies to herself throughout the story about what exactly she’s feeling, their relationship is sweet and genuine.
Gripes: The animosity is overblown and under-explained (why does Grayson think bombing his scenes with Emmy is a good idea? I needed an explanation). I wanted to scream at their stupidity fairly often, but that’s part of the romcom charm in a way. The third-act miscommunication and breakup is always obnoxious to me, and this was no different. Also, if I had to read the phrase “pine and charcoal scent” one more time, I might have thrown my Kindle.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC to review!
Lease on Love was on of my favorites when it came out and I’ve been chasing that feeling with these subsequent books. While this one was good, it fell short for me. Grayson definitely comes off as cold, and getting his POV absolutely would have helped. Emmy was kind of insufferable at the beginning, finding no fault in her actions and quick to blame him. Thankfully she comes around eventually. I enjoyed the plot of this and getting behind the scenes insight to filming a movie and watching Grayson and Emmy interact both on and off screen. I loved that once they decided to be together, there weren’t any secrets. The miscommunication was major in this one and it was really frustrating, especially the conflict. Overall, it was fine I just really didn’t connect with the characters or their relationship.
SUCH a fun and sexy enemies-to-lovers story. Immediately going to look up the author’s other work, loved her style and can’t wait to read more!
I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I will read anything Falon Ballard writes and Right on Cue reinforces that I will enjoy every second of my time reading her books.
When they were teenagers, Emmy Harper and Grayson West co-starred in a movie. Emmy had a major crush on Grayson until he told reporters that the on-set kiss he shared with Emmy was the worst kiss of his life. The movie performed terribly and although Grayson went on to become an actor in action movies, Emmy never acted again. Instead, she became an Oscar-winning screenplay writer for serious, dramatic movies. Needing a change of pace after her father recently passed away, Emmy writes a rom-com and her best friend, Liz, who is directing the movie, convinces her to give acting another chance and star in it. Emmy reluctantly agrees only for her co-star to get injured right before shooting, and of course, the only actor able to fill in is none other than Grayson West, who Emmy has long harbored animosity towards. Not only are they grappling with their own issues--Emmy's grieving her loss and wants to succeed in her second attempt at acting, and Grayson's wants to be respected as a serious, versatile actor--but now they have to pretend to be deeply in love with each other in order to achieve their goals even though they can barely stand to be in the same room.
I absolutely devoured Right on Cue. Like Falon Ballard's other two novels, this was funny, sweet, and hot. The tension and chemistry between Emmy and Grayson were palpable. There was angst but there were also many soft, romantic scenes (I personally loved the ice skating scene). I enjoyed watching Emmy and Grayson unpack their history and learn to get along and even trust each other again. I also liked the role that filming/acting played in this story.
Overall, I have nothing but positive things to say about Right on Cue and I would highly recommend it!
