Loved this. Wasn't sure what to expect, it's not an unknown trope, but it was a bit fresh, well written, and particularly swoony.
I read it in one session, couldn't put it down.
This is the story of Em, Emmy, Emilia, Harper. She's the Oscar winning screenwriter daughter of Hollywood Legends. Her new film is about to start shooting and she has to play the lead character, last minute shenanigans. Okay, she's fine, she can do this. The main male character is a friend from college, super sweet guy, she's got this.
Oh no she does not. She goes to check into the quaint inn in the even quainter town where filming takes place and who does she run smack dab into? You guessed it. Her first kiss slash man who ruined her acting career before it even got started.
Things do not go well on set, but I will say no more except for "if you're looking to escape for a few hours, this is the book for you". Now I'm off to find the rest of this author's books.
This right here is my favorite Fallon Ballard book. I absolutely loveee a rom-com, but I love a Hollywood rom-com even more. I loved Emmy and her girl-boss attitude at first, but she got annoying as the book went on. She was just so stubborn and refused to budge which ultimately lead to a 3rd-act breakup which I hate. Greyson was dreamy and delightful and I have zero compalints about his character. The amount of tropes that spoke to my soul - friends to enemies, enemies to lovers, one bed were all amazing. It truly gave me all the feels and I just really enjoyed this book and I’ll read anything she writes.
Okay, well this was so fun. I love a rom com that features a celebrity with issues and both Emmy and Grayson were well written. There is definitely some miscommunication in this but the way it was done made it less cringey than it normally can be. Emmy has the better growth as she was a bit insufferable in the beginning. I get that he hurt you, but girl, get over it and be a professional! Rachel Jacobs did a fantastic job with the narration so I highly recommend the audiobook. I’ll be picking up LEASE ON LOVE next!
This is such a cute romance! I loved the celebrity aspect of the book. I loved the tension we got from the enemies to lovers storyline. I really liked the FMC, Emmy. It took a little bit for Grayson, the MMC, to grow on me. Once they leaned more into the lovers instead of enemies, he grew on me more. I deducted a star because it has a huge miscommunication trope that felt cliche, especially in the third act break up. But I read this book in less than 24 hours so it is definitely one I’ll recommend if you need a quick, entertaining romance read!

Thanks to @netgalley and @putnambooks for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. This book releases on February 27.
So I’ve heard 1,001 good things about Falon Ballard’s books, but this was my first one and oh, I was won over by it. At first, I was a bit hesitant, as it seemed to lean really hard into the trope of old enemies who have never talked it out but seemingly held grudges for the better part of two decades (and god, do I hate a miscommunication trope). That being said, Emmy and Grayson won me over FAST.
The novel combines the vibes of a small town romance with the fake dating of a film set, and also works in some good spicy scenes balanced with incredibly tender emotional scenes. The moments in which Grayson really shows up for Emmy (and vice versa) really stand out to me: the soft and gentle kindness pushing past the lust and sexual tension the two have in spades makes the payoff of steamy scenes feel even better because you know they both just deserve the world.
I’m a big big hater of the third act breakup, and while this book does have one, it felt less fraught than some others I’ve read, and I was immensely grateful to the author for putting me out of my misery quickly and flawlessly. It made the wrap up of the book feel all the more sweet.
On the whole, this book was lovely, and I’ll be sure to go back and read Ballard’s older works (and all future ones!!). 4⭐️ for these lovelies!

📖 Enemies to Lovers
📖 Miscommunication
📖 Forced Proximity
📖 Single POV - Emmy
My second Falon Ballard book and I really enjoyed it! I always love an enemies to lovers trope and all the tension that comes with it and you can definitely feel the tension between Emmy and Grayson! The miscommunication trope isn’t usually one of my favorites, but I think it works decently in this book.
I loved Liz (the best friend) and Emmy’s mom, and I adored the relationship they had together (mostly talked about from Emmy’s perspective of having to deal with the two of them).
The book started off a bit slower to me so it took me some time to get into it. Grayson was so sweet and misunderstood by the world and Emmy was feisty and quick to react. I loved them together.
Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Group/G.P. Putnam's Sons for the eARC of this book. All opinions are my own.
Emmy Harper grew up in Hollywood and is a big name writer of romcom scripts. When her best friend convinced her to play the lead in her latest movie, Emmy finds herself face to face with the male lead Grayson West. Emmy and Grayson have a history that Emmy isn’t quite ready to let go of. When their acting takes a hit because of the friction between them, Emmy and Grayson vow to put the past behind them and focus on the present. Grayson and Emmy will do what it takes to save the movie even if that means ending up in bed together.
I was hooked on this book from the very first chapter. I instantly loved Emmy and Grayson and couldn’t wait to see what type of relationship developed between the couple. This story line was well executed and I really enjoyed the story as a whole. My only complaint is how Emmy acted sometimes, jumping to conclusions and holding grudges when it wasn’t always necessary. The chemistry between Emmy and Grayson was hot and it lead to a few steamy scenes. This book was a great combination of tropes and I loved how it all played out. I’m glad I got the chance to read this book, I found it so hard to put down. If you are looking for a sweet romance with some spice, give this one a try!
I definitely liked this book quite a bit. After having a few heavy reads over the last couple weeks, I really enjoyed having something more light hearted to read!! I feel like books set in Hollywood usually have a ton of miscommunication and I appreciated that this one didn't (at least not TOO much)
Fans of enemies to lovers will love this book! Emmy and Grayson have so much tension and back and forth. I love Falon Ballard's book and this one did not disappoint!
When Emmy decides to star in her newest movie, she shows up to the set uber nervous only to find out her male co-star has backed out. She's trying to figure out what to do when she runs into an old childhood flame, turned enemy, Grayson. Grayson has been cast as her new co-star and Emmy will not have it. But, Emmy has no other options, so she must star alongside the guy who ruin her career when they were kids. you can imagine the tension and hatred that ensues!
The premise of this book had me intrigued from the moment I saw it on #NetGalley and I knew I had to request an advanced copy of #RightonCue by Falon Ballard (in exchange for an honest review). I was very excited to be approved for it.
This was my first book by Falon Ballard and I really enjoyed her writing style. The story was well told and had a great balance of plot and romance. I've recently realized how much I enjoy a well written second chance romance and this was definitely one of those. I'm not always a fan of contemporary romance but this proved that I can like them. I didn't love the 3rd act breakup but the coming back together of Emmy and Grayson was very satisfying and well written. Emmy and Grayson were both very realistically written as people you might know in your everyday life even though they are fictionally famous which I think made the story more fun to read.
I thought this book was really cute! I am a huge Ballard fan, after having loved her two previous books SO much. So I was so excited about this one, and to receive an early copy of it. It definitely didn't disappoint! This book was so cute, with great friendships but it does have a lot of angst. However, I definitely enjoyed the characters and I appreciated their communication and development! Though at times Emmy was a little self-centered and entitled, I thoroughly enjoyed Grayson and I thought he was very cute with how much he cared for for Emmy 😍 As with Ballard's other books - she can certainly write an amazing romance with beautiful writing! Usually a trope that I don't like very much is Hollywood/celebrities, however, I did find this one to be very enjoyable.

This was a cute enemies to lovers book. It follows Emmy, an actress turned screenwriter, and Grayson an actor who had a major falling out after they worked on a movie together years ago. When Emmy decides to give acting another shot in the movie she’s written, she is dreading having to work with Grayson again, especially playing lovers on screen. However, how long can they play lovers on screen before the feelings start developing in real life?
I enjoyed this book, especially Emmy’s character. Grayson’s character did annoy me a little bit. While I did feel the chemistry between the two characters, I do think it could have had a little more positive interactions outside of the physical. It was just a little difficult to buy into the fast feelings they developed from their previous dislike of each other. I also didn’t love the reason for the third act breakup. I did enjoy the ending and I enjoyed the parts of intersection between the on screen romance and their relationship in real life.
I enjoyed Falon Ballard's first two romance novels, and Right on Cue lived up to my expectations! Right on Cue is a sweet, enemies-to-lovers romance set in the film industry. I love how Falon's characters are always relatable and down-to-earth. Highly recommend reading Right on Cue to anyone looking for a light, easy read!
Emmy Harper, beloved nepo baby and screenwriter dubbed the next Nora Ephron, hasn't been on screen in ten years. But when they can't find the perfect leading lady for her beloved rom com and production threatens to pull funding, she reluctantly steps. Already hesitant, things go from bad to worse when her leading man breaks his leg and is replaced with the same actor who she starred alongside ten years prior, Grayson West--with disastrous results.
Ballard is quickly becoming one of my favorite writers, particularly with this third, stellar novel under her belt. I love a good celebrity romance (particularly between two celebrities, when it seems more realistic), and this story hit all the notes I was looking for. This may be an odd comment, but I also think Ballard utilizes the occasional swear word exceptionally well in her books, in a way that makes the characters feel like real people and not sanitized for our enjoyment or reserved only for the steamy scenes. She's truly made characters I love and want to be friends with, and Emmy and Grayson are no exceptions.
Thanks to Putnam for my eARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
5 stars - 10/10
This was the first book I read by Falon Ballard and I'm definitely going to have to pick up her other books. This was fun, spicy, heartwarming, and had such fun vibes.
I loved Emmy and Grayson and I loved how both of their insecurities got page time, even though this was a single POV book. I also loved how they were able to use their insecurities to relate to each other but also to contrast their own life experiences to grow together. I always adore a celebrity romance and this was just tons of fun.
My biggest (and really only) issue with the book was that the third act conflict was one of those that could have been solve if the characters just. talked. It felt a little forced and therefore unearned. But I'm glad that actions of the characters that were irrational were called out as such. Additionally, I would have liked to see a little more of Emmy's relationship with her best friend.

Thanks to Putnam Books and NetGalley for early access in exchange for my honest opinion.
Right on Cue is a Hollywood romance with co-stars filming a romcom in an adorable small-town. Emmy wrote the screenplay and her producer BFF convinced her that she would do a better job acting than any of the actresses they auditioned. Emmy has only once been in front of the camera, and it was a flop, in part due to her interactions with her co-star. But guess who Emmy is acting against in the new movie? Yup!
I liked Emmy, the female main character, but the way the male main character was introduced made it rough for me to give him an honest chance. While I enjoyed the main plot, the story went too far in the miscommunication direction. This grated on me and led me to set the book down instead of quickly finishing it. If you are able to get past the miscommunication, it is a fun, cute read! I have been hit (Lease on Love) or miss (Just My Type) with the author so far, but I will continue to read her books. This one was spicier than her previous books! Right on Cue will be available this Tuesday
Thank you for allowing me a chance to read an advanced copy!
This one lost a potential star for me mainly because most of the book utilizes one of my least favorite romance tropes - miscommunication. It just makes me want to scream into the book! 😂 These two could have saved themselves a whole lotta anxiety, anger, and heartbreak if they could just open their mouths and talk to each other like grown adults.
Bottom line: I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either. It was just a solid, average romance if you're looking for something light and don't mind miscommunication.
Thank you Netgalley for this arc.

This book looked so promising and I was genuinely so excited to read it. But from the get go the writing was choppy and everything was being told to us instead of telling. I wanted there to be more substance to the story but it never came. The FMC was my favorite part but once the MMC came into the picture, I quickly started to lose interest.
Overall, it was a very promising idea but I think it severely lacked in execution.
Falon Ballard simply writes the best books that are filled with plenty of romance & full of one liner (or 2 liner) zingers between characters. The comments that fly out of Emmy, especially when interacting with Grayson, had me laughing so hard! Also, once I started reading I simply devoured the book in just two days. I was hooked on the story, I wanted to laugh more & I was too impatient to see how it all ended.
Emmy finds herself once again in front of the camera instead of just as the screenwriter & she is not sure this is the best idea -writing rom-coms is very different from being IN the rom-com. Her situation only becomes worse when Grayson West shows up on set as her romantic co-star. They spend weeks filming in a small town, stepping around each other until their lack of professionalism blocks the way of making the movie.
Forcing Emmy & Grayson to figure it all out to complete the movie, they decide to make a pact, co-stars with benefits, which works wonders until it just doesn’t work anymore. Emmy discovers a side to Grayson she never thought she would, she finds herself opening up to him in a way she never imagined & she struggles with her new feelings she cannot admit out loud. Grayson shows a different side of himself to Emmy, he falls fast & hard for her but he struggles emotionally as well. While there is a lot of struggle for both Emmy & Grayson it is very clear they belong together - they compliment the other in the sweetest & romantic ways possible.
I absolutely MUST recommend this book! If you need laugher, some spice & good romance Falon Ballard will deliver on all of it!!
Emmy Harper is a child of Hollywood royalty and has an Oscar herself for screenwriting. Her latest project has the funding and is set to film but no leading lady in sight. With a time crunch she is persuaded by her co-producer and best friend to take the part. She acted once in a movie as a teen and it didn’t go well. Arriving to start the film she learns that her co-star has been replaced by Grayson West, a blockbuster action star. And because it is all in the slightly misleading blurb, he was the co-star that ruined her confidence as a teen.
I loved Falon’s previous books Lease on Love (Feb 2022) and Just My Type (Feb 2023). This one started a little rocky for me. Grayson really comes off as a jerk intentionally performing badly with Emmy. And when eventually confronted by her memories of the past it is excused by his being young with no acknowledgment of her feelings. But Emmy holding on to that one experience seems odd too. Her parents, with their careers, should have been able to help her through that better. And I’m not convinced the power dynamics are accurately portrayed. Where she is the screenwriter, star and a producer she should have been in meetings and watching dailies with the director and co-producer. It is as if she gave up all of her power when she became an actress in the film.
The book picks up when their attraction kicks in. Overall the story has good pacing and is easy to read. And I eventually warmed up to the lead characters. I loved her BF and mom. I’d recommend the previous books more than this one but that is still enjoyable. And I will continue to watch for future books from the author. (3.5 Stars)
