What an adorable book! I love me a good enemies-to-lovers and this one stole my heart. I loved the chemistry between Emmy and Grayson and the spice was an added benefit. The banter between them before and after the enemies became lovers was fantastic and gave me a few out loud giggles. My only complaint is that I really wish we would have had some resolution with the relationship between Grayson and his dad. Just something I kept wondering about and might’ve been too complicated of a sideplot but I still wish something in relation to that would’ve been hinted at a bit.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for Right on Cue by Falon Ballard. This rom-com releases an n February 27th and was so much fun to read! It is a perfect read anytime— but especially around Valentine’s Day.

Emmy Harper is a one-time actress turned screenwriter who is such a lovable character. When her best friend/director of Emmy’s latest work cannot find an actress who reads the script as well as Emmy did when she was helping audition actors for the male lead, Emmy agrees to star in the film… But when the male lead has to drop out due to injury, the only available actor is Grayson West— her nemesis and the actor she fell flat with in her only prior acting role.

I loved the dialogue and interactions between Emmy and Grayson. The novel was entertaining, and the characters were incredibly likable.

Thank you to the author, GP Putnam’s Sons/Penguin, and NetGalley for the digital copy in exchange for my opinions.

Once again, Falon hits it out of the park and straight into my heart with her newest book.

Right on Cue follows Emmy, a rom-com screenwriter, who steps into the role of leading lady for her newest movie after not finding the right actress. When the original actor chosen to play her opposite drops out of the movie, the last person she ever expected steps in their place - Greyson West, action star and Emmy's former crush. The two must work through their differences to make an amazing movie, and of course fall in love along the way.

Falon is my queen of Rom-Coms, she simply GETS the genre. There's something about her writing that is vivid, the banter is always witty, and just flows so well on the pages. One moment she has me laughing at the characters bickering to swooning over the leading man. ALSO, the use of celebrity inspo in this book, the red carpet scene? I was GUSHING. Even the third-act drama is written so well. Also, one single POV does a lot for me, cause you just know that the man is DOWN BAD for his girl, and its so nice to see that being expressed.

Please pick this book up, it truly deserves all the love.

Thank you to NetGalley, Penguin Group Putnam, and Falon for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to PRH Audio for the complimentary audiobook. Thank you to Group Putnam and NetGalley for an advanced readers copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is my first book by this author, and I really enjoyed it. I will definitely be reading more.

Emmy Harper wrote a romcom movie but wasn't planning on acting in it. It's been a long time since she was in front of the screen. After a lot of urging, she decides to take the leap. At the last minute, her leading man is injured and unable to star in it. Who steps in the role? The one man that Emmy hopes to never have to see again. She blames Grayson West for ending her acting career only. Can she get over her feelings for him and act with him in this movie?

This has a single POV of Emmy. I really wish we could have had Grayson's thoughts, too. That would have made this a five-star read for me. Grayson is a pretty awesome male main character, once we get past the beginning parts of his acting/non-acting with his scenes with Emmy.

Emmy and Grayson have intense chemistry and decide to act on that right away. Things between them are really good for much of the book, so it did get a little boring. Plus, I was waiting for the third-act breakup. Luckily, it didn't last too long.

Read this if you like:
Enemies to lovers
Celebrity romance
Steamy, open-door romance that is NOT slow-burn

I loved the narration of this book. All of the narrators were new to me. The narrator for Emmy was so good. She had me chuckling more than once and feeling her pain, too. I really recommend listening to this for full enjoyment.

I love Fallon's writing! The chemistry between the two main characters was so good and I loved seeing them come together after the rocky start they had as teens. I loved the MMC cause he was just a giant teddy bear on the inside. Highly recommend!

A frustratingly hilarious enemies with benefits, forced proximity, steamy second chance celebrity romance.

Celebrity sweetheart and Oscar-winning screenwriter Emery reunites with Hollywood heartthrob and action star Grayson for a chance to redeem their disastrous debut movie romance from when they were teens. Both adults now, with their careers on the line, can they swallow their pride to put on an Oscar-worthy performance for their fans (including an onscreen sex scene) or is their tension taught tight enough to explode on set? Maybe they just need to let off some steam.

The relationships in this book were flawlessly executed. Between Emery and her mom, Emery and her best friend Liz, plus Liz and Emery’s mom. Emery and her stylists, her co-star, even the hotel manager. Then there was Grayson fucking West. Perfectly paced in a small town setting, filming behind-the-scenes, relatable characters with real feelings and combustible chemistry. Equal parts frustrating and funny, sweet and steamy. Complete with a cringey third act break-up scene. Still everything you expect and crave in a celebrity rom-com. 4 Stars knowing this novel was written by Ballard for Ballard with the hint of being a bit self-indulgent. And it was.

This was everything I needed in a romance and more. A fun, quick and spicy weekend read. I absolutely loved these characters and their chemistry was spot on.

What You Can Expect:
A BTS of Making a Movie
Second Chance - Enemies to Lovers Vibe
Hallmark-y Setting
Loveable Mother/Daughter Relationship
Forced Proximity
Tension & Banter

Nobody likes a third act break up because damn it if they can't fully communicate their feelings...but, I'm overlooking it with this one because it was short lived and I loved it so much.

A solid rom-com from Ballard...who in my opinion keeps getting better and better.

I really liked Graysons character and I wish we explored him a bit more and had his POV. We only see from Emmys side in this book and I think she was a bit dramatic 🙈 I’m sorry. But the miscommunication that happens twice was utter ridiculous. She breaks up with Grayson after overhearing a partial conversation and completely excommunicates him from her life without giving him any explanation or a chance to see or talk to her again. **DRAMATIC!** Then months later they have to see each other to promote the movie and she finally blurts it all out and he’s like you didn’t hear the whole conversation you’re wrong and she’s like I’m sorry take me back I love you. 🙄 I think your red flags are showing Emmy…… I think the characters given their careers are unrealistic too. Idk something about it didn’t click right in my brain and for me personally didn’t work well.

Okay rant done. I think the writing is great and the storyline was so cute. I loved the charming small town setting for the movie. Love the enemies to lovers vibe, second chance romance vibes, friends or coworkers with benefits. I will also say that there is talk of grief from losing a parent and those parts hit me hard. So thoughtfully written and relatable.

This book comprises tropes I usually really enjoy: celebrity romance (Hollywood in particular), second chance, and forced proximity. I also really enjoyed Lease on Love and Just My Type, so I was excited for this one. Unfortunately, it did not work for me for a number of reasons.

The writing needs a fair amount of editing. There are a lot of clunky metaphors and much of the dialogue is cliched and doesn’t seem to have been written with the characters themselves or their development in mind. The characters are underdeveloped in general. I also did not feel much chemistry between them at all.

Emmy is meant to be an Oscar-winning screenwriter who is compared several times to Nora Ephron. This doesn’t really track with the movie the characters are making in this book. Everything we see them filming feels like a Hallmark movie cliche.

I did like the third act relationship conflict, though I think the reader needs more context for it throughout the entire book because it feels kind of like it comes out of nowhere.

Overall, this was a miss for me, but since I enjoyed the author’s previous books, I will likely still give anything she does in the future a shot. They can’t all be winners.

Falon Ballard has done it again. Emmy Harper is a screen writer getting ready to play the lead role in her newest rom-com. The last time she acted it did not end well so she nervous about getting back into action. When the lead male has to back out at the last minute, he is replaced with her arch nemesis, the only male she has already acted with, the one she blames for her acting failure, Grayson West.

Emmy and Grayson have to learn to act together again, especially if Emmy wants this movie to be a success. Grayson is used to playing an action hero, so can he figure out how to be in a romantic comedy?

I love Falon Ballard's writing, it always sucks me in from the beginning and I often stay up too late to keep reading. Falon does a great job making you feel as you are in the book with the characters and I definitely felt like I was in the small town on set with the cast and crew. I was hoping there wasn't going to be a third act break-up and felt like it was very late in the book, but alas it happened. I loved reading this book and if you like celebrities, rom-coms, and small towns you will too.

As always I absolutely adored this book! The tension between the main characters was so great, it felt like a great workplace enemies to lovers situation, and totally had the hating game vibes to it! The spice was perfect and I enjoyed every minute of it!

Okay I LOVED this book!!! Enemies to lovers always slaps but I was really loving this take on it. I don’t think I’ve read many celebrity romances but this book is making me feel like I need to add more into the rotation! I was really sucked into this storyline quickly. I’m not sure if it was the the premise or the cozy small town/movie set vibes, but it all kept me invested and I flew through it!

I loved the evolution of Emmy and Garyson’s romance. We see them slowly become more and more comfortable with each other and their progression to lovers felt natural. Their chemistry was undeniable and watching them fall in love was so entertaining. I will say, the ending was a bit rushed, and a bit frustrating. A lot could have been solved by communication but at the same time it felt like a very human response. When you’re hurt you don’t always make the most rational decisions and it all worked out in the end!!

Kind of ironic that the premise of this book surrounds filming a romcom because this book would actually make a fantastic movie!!

Thank you so much Fallon, NetGalley, and Putnam books for this eARC! I loved it so much!

Emmy is a screenwriter who hasn’t been in front of the camera since her first role as a 15-year-old where her performance was widely panned by critics. The reason? Grayson West and their awkward first kiss that led to drama on set and lackluster performances for the rest of filming. But when Emmy ends up returning to acting years later as the lead in her newest rom-com, the male lead is replaced at the last minute by none other than Grayson. Once filming begins, their undeniable chemistry leads them to be co-stars with benefits. But can the magic they found on set be carried over to the real world?

Overall, this was an enjoyable enemies-to-lovers romance with some serious chemistry. I thought both characters had nicely developed backstories and the plot moved along nicely, but I also thought both could have been developed even further. Rom-com lovers will likely find it to be fairly predictable the entire way through, but it was a fast read and a great palate cleanser between heavier titles.

Overall 4/5
Spice 2/3

Thank you Net Galley and Penguin Group for a chance to read this book in advance. This book was a cozy read, the book takes place late winter/early spring where there is still snow on the ground, perfect cold weather read. I fell in love with the characters, Emmy and Grayson. An enemies to lovers trope which had some predictable sections and some spicy sections. The only thing I was disappointed was they glossed over their initial disagreement when they were teens. I feel it affected Emmy a lot (in her career and emotionally) but as she and Grayson start falling for each other she doesn't emphasize what a big deal it was to her. Otherwise, this is a fun, heartwarming read.

Happy Valentine's Day, babes! Thank you to Penguin Group for the eARC and PRH Audio for the ALC in exchange for an honest review.

I love Falon Ballard and I will ALWAYS download her books immediately. While this one wasn't my favorite, it was exactly what I was looking for at the moment. A cute, fun, quick weekend read and I will absolutely recommend it to readers who enjoy Hollywood/celebrity romances. It kept me engaged and laughing, not to mention I really loved both characters. And the spice. A+. 🥰

The third act break-up? Hated. But I'm glad they found their way back to each other. I also wasn't a huge fan of the audiobook, but a good option for those who enjoy it.

This was my third book by the author, after Lease on Love and Just My Type. I loved the chemistry between the characters in this, I feel the author writes chemistry really well, I felt that in the other books too. I also loved the setting of the book as well as seeing the on set vibes versus off the set. I enjoyed the descriptions about the film industry and how different the industry was for the main characters, one having grown up in the spotlight while the other came into it by choice.

My favorite thing about this book was the mother-daughter relationship. And even the father-daughter relationship that we got even if it was just through her memories. Reading about such great family relationships was really comforting and I really loved the banter and wit in Emmy and her mother's conversations.

My one big issue with the book was the third act break up and how unnecessary it felt. I also felt that Emmy and Liz friendship felt very on and off because it didn't feel like they were friends at all when they were on set and only felt like it in the parts of the book that were in LA (basically the beginning of the book and the third act.)

Overall, I enjoyed it and read it really quickly in two sittings. I enjoy the author's writing style and while I didn't enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed her previous books, I am looking forward to her future works.

3.5 stars^

This book reminded me somewhat of one of my favorites, The Hating Game. Emmy and Grayson have a past that neither one has forgotten. When Emmy writes a rom-com, the last person she wants to play the love interest opposite of her is her nemesis. The one boy that humiliated her all those years ago and left her struggling to regain her confidence, now he's here and he's as salty as ever.
I really wish we got some of Grayson's POV because when they finally confront each other, the things he says I didn't really notice because I had been seeing things only from Emmy's POV, but they all seemed so valid. I would have loved to see things from his perspective, but I also loved the tension it created not knowing.
I thought the back and forth between the two and the push and pull was just perfect. I got a little emotional even towards the end. 4.5 stars.
Thank you to Penguin, Netgalley and Falon Ballard for an early copy.

This book was simply adorable! It was enemies to lovers but so much cuter. Emmy, a nepo baby screenwriter, finds herself in her own personal nightmare - having to star in movie she wrote the screenplay for opposite her former costar. The same costar who made her nearly swear off acting all together.
There’s definitely spice, which that alone is five stars. The additional layers of the character’s histories and the small town that they are filming in? TAKE ME OUT IM READY BABES.
Definitely would recommend to anyone who has been forced to work with a situationship. Falon answered the age old question - do I want to kiss or smack you?

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review.

Thank you Putnam for the ebook, PRH audio influencer program for the audiobook.

Right on Cue is a like for me but also a bit of a miss. this book has everything I tend to really enjoy in a romcom, hollywood themes, second chance/enemies to lovers vibes, and behind the scenes movie/tv themes. It just never quite... took off for me. I think what I needed was a bit more background/history for the reason the main characters were at odds, a lot of that left me wondering how that lead to such, to me, immature behavior from Grayson during the filming of the movie and what was really going on. The third act miscommunication break up just also felt a little too much for me; I am, all for tropes, trust me, but I don't love miscommunication and this felt more like forcing a trope than letting it be part of how a plot was unfolding. The chemistry does work, there are a lot of moments when the book is fun, but this one never leaves the friend zone level of rating for me.

random note for audiobook lovers:
I also note that I tend to love romcoms and romance reads on audiobook but, through no fault of the narrators, the constant way Emmy would refer to Grayson in her head as Grayson "Effing" West got on my last nerve, it was a lot in the earlier parts of the book and despite being a frequent use of effing myself, it was off putting to keep hearing it over and over. Sometimes things just stick out differently when listening versus reading, this was one of those books that for me ended up working less well on audio perhaps because of some of the writing and how it landed as a listener versus reader. I switched to the ebook and enjoyed the book more that way.

Thank you so much @PutnamBooks for giving me this ARC in exchange for my honest and unbiased review (Release Date | 27 February 2024)

SYNOPSIS | Emmy is a screenwriter who has been convinced by her director best friend to play the lead role in her latest romantic comedy movie. She however hasn't acted in over a decade and when the casted male lead pulls out at the last minute, she is faced with his replacement (Grayson) who she blames for ending her acting career.

WHAT I LIKED:
- behind the scenes look into filming a movie
- second chance vibes (also kinda enemies to lovers)
- cozy small-town Hallmark-esque setting
- Emmy's relationship with her mother

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:
- the third act breakup (lack of communication at its finest)
- would have appreciated Grayson's POV to understand him & his motivations more
