i rated this one like a 3.75 stars, which was tough because falon is my ride or die - i LOVE her work
this one just fell a little flat for me. I still enjoyed it, and liked the characters and the premise was so fun. I just felt like the "enemies" plotline was a little underwhelming (i understand it being the reason she hated him, it just felt a little like it was held onto a bit too harshly for too long? i'm not sure how to describe the feeling)
i do however NEED to visit this inn and stay in Pine Springs because there is nothing like a small town vibe and i loved the setting of this place!
i did really enjoy the premise of this book, and would for sure recommend it!
Quick read romance, but not for me. I’m not a big fan of the miscommunication trope which was the center of the plot for this one. The characters frustrated me when all conflict could’ve been resolved with a quick conversation at page 100.
Right on Cue by Falon Ballard could have been an amazing title. But sadly it failed to bring what I was looking for. I wanted something light and cute and although this does somewhat do that it failed on all other accounts. The characters were super immature and the third act break up just seemed out of place. I wished that this would have been better fleshed out and that the characters would have been more professional within their acting careers. As I really hope real actors don't act this way. ie: like children. I spent most of the book wanting to slap both of them and putting them both into a time out.
Thank you Penguin Group Putnam and NetGalley for the digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Right on Cue is a celebrity romance about two actors who think the other hate each other and have to work together on a new Rom Com. Sounds delightful. I loved the characters and their chemistry, and that TV and they were open to their feelings. They didn’t even hide it on set. Loved the small town and film sitting. It’s my favorite part in celebrity romances. Overall, I enjoy that this author is very easy to read. This was definitely the spiciest of all her novels. I enjoyed this more than just my type, but lease on love is still my favorite. I can’t wait for her upcoming holiday novel.
What didn’t work- the pacing of the 3rd act break up. It honestly made it lose a star. This is where I started skimming. I know we need conflict, but it was so unavoidable with simple communication. It was just so frustrating. I am getting really tired of the miscommunication trope.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange of my honest review.
This book is my disappointment of the year. I loved Just My Type, and really looked forward to this, but the only plot point of the first 30 percent was seeing how many times the FMC could say “Grayson F*cking West” and after 53895 times, my ears started bleeding and I called it quits.
Ugh sad - this is the first Fallon Ballard book that I haven’t absolutely loved and it pains me so much to say that!
I know that it can sometimes be easy to poke holes into romance plots but I found myself poking so many holes in this one it was hard for me to enjoy the rest. I found the MC to be whiny and she held a grudge from her teen years that I had a hard time getting past.
I do love the Enemies to Lovers trope so much but like … they did not have to be enemies?! There was just way too much miscommunication threaded throughout and it pissed me off haha.
Also - I found it hard to move beyond her supposed best friend putting her in an uncomfortable situation, putting work over her feelings, without even telling her ahead of time. I am a girls girl so sorry… no way.
Right on Cue by Falon Ballard had well-developed characters and an engaging plot. This book was a joy to read.

"Right on Cue" by Falon Ballard is a captivating and heartwarming romance that will sweep readers off their feet. As a fan of Ballard’s previous works, I was eager to dive into this novel, and it did not disappoint!
Falon Ballard’s writing is, as always, top-notch. Her ability to craft witty dialogue and create palpable chemistry between characters is truly commendable. The pacing is perfect, balancing moments of tension with laugh-out-loud humor and heartfelt scenes. The descriptive prose brings the setting to life, especially the behind-the-scenes glimpse into the film industry, which adds an extra layer of authenticity to the story.
"Right on Cue" is a must-read for fans of contemporary romance. Falon Ballard has once again delivered a story that is equal parts charming, funny, and poignant. Whether you are a long-time fan or new to her work, this book is sure to leave you with a smile on your face and a warm feeling in your heart.
Highly recommend! 🎬❤️📖
Having now read several of Fallon’s books, she’s quickly becoming a staple author for me. I appreciate that her books often address head on some of the messier parts of relationships. That being said, this one was slightly more escapist given the premise, but enjoyable from start to finish nonetheless.
My first Falon Ballard and definitely NOT my last! This was such a sweet and spicy romance that was a perfect palette cleanser! I love a fake dating celebrity situation in books! Some of my favorite tropes! I loved their dynamic and relationship growth. It felt so authentic. Really great spice and chemistry!
3.5 stars rounded up - there is some miscommunication in this book, but the author does a good job of having one of the main characters point out the miscommunication (so I at least commend her for that).
The sex scenes were placed perfectly throughout and weren't too much or too little for a cute romantic comedy.
The character progression was okay, but I really love to see authors put really raw emotions on the page, you know...the ones that make you have that visceral reaction to their words. I didn't get that from this book, so it just felt like a quick palette cleanser for me.
I enjoyed this one and I'm interested in reading more from the author. Thank you to NetGalley, Falon Ballard, and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam | G.P. Putnam's Sons for the opportunity to read and review this Advanced Reader's Copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest opinion.
This book was alright - it was quick read and I didn't totally dislike it. There were aspects that fell short for me - didn't really believe that she was the ONLY option left for the role and didn't really like that it felt like they were doing a cheesy Hallmark movie. The MMC, Grayson, seemed like a total dick from the start, and I didn't particularly feel he was likable or professional, which made it also seem unbelievable. This person is supposed to every person's dream romantic lead but he was not giving that at all. I can somewhat tolerate an unlikable MMC but why does he have to be petty in a professional setting? Made me dislike him even more. Anyways, I enjoyed their relationship more when they were somewhat together and it was cute!
I'm a brand new Falon Ballard reader and I'm hooked! Ballard's writing is perfection. I loved the behind the scenes of making a Rom-Com and the entertainment world in the book was very realistic (with less stress than the real thing). Emmy Harper is lovable, imperfect writer/actor. I loved her relationship with best friend director and mother. I wish there had been even more scenes with her mom and also more back story for all the characters. The hero, Grayson, is an action star trying out a film with more depth. His inner voice and backstory unfold very slowly. Later in the story one of the conflicts between the couple is something "overheard." Personally for me this brought a real ick feeling that for me crossed the line in enjoying the book and also deep investment.
I also listened to the audiobook, which I loved!
Thank you to #Netgalley for the eArc. All opinions are my own.
i’ve loved every fallon ballard book! i loved being able to see the behind the scenes of a movie and getting a glimpse into that lifestyle! this book felt like a cute hallmark movie in the best way possible!
i can see how fallon’s writing has grown so far and i can’t wait to see what else she has in store for us!
I did not read the author's previous books, but this one, one could tell was a work of joy and it brought joy to this reader. A Romcom in a Romcom, like the Droste effect, (yes I had to look that up). Screen writer Emmy Harper writes Romcoms. She is a nepotism baby (I had to look that one up too). Her parents were a A-list couple, think Newman and Woodward, who sheltered her from the limelight as much as possible. She made her first and last film when she was fifteen and her leading man was seventeen year old Grayson West. She immediately had a crush on him, dreaming a HEA like her parents, but was crushed when she overheard hm make a careless remark and it showed on the film, which bombed. But it becomes apparent that she needs to brush off her acting skills to play the female lead and of course since it is a Romcom, Grayson is cast as the male lead. Secrets and poor communication sabotaged them in their youth, but they have their second chance. Will they learn from their previous mistakes?
I enjoyed this fun Romcom, with all the required elements of a romcom: cute enemy to lovers couple, best friend, other shoe dropping when the romance is going strong and a HEA. I read a gifted Advanced Reader's Copy provided by NetGalley.com. This is my honest, non biased, voluntary review.
Enemies-to-lovers, but make it Hollywood with a dash of Hallmark. This was an enjoyable and light read, but was lacking depth in the supporting cast for me.
If you like romcom books I HIGHLY recommend Falon Ballard. She absolutely deserves to be up there in the contemp romance pupularity with Christina Lauren, Ali Hazelwood, and Emily Henry. All of her books are so cute in the very best cheesy way and I find it so comforting, and really helps me get out of reading slumps! Love love love!
I initially gave Right On Cue three stars, but after reading some notes I kept I actually give it FOUR STARS.
Emmy Harper has to step out of her director role to act in her new movie. She already isn't psyched about it but is double irritated when she has to act along side her arch nemesis Grayson West.
Look, I read a lot of romance and knew this was going to be an Enemies to Lovers scenario but that complete and total vehemence Emmy showed through the first third of this book. Yikes. I genuinely got worried Grayson would not warm up to her. Tbh I also found our main girl very annoying throughout most of the book. Honestly that's the main reason I knocked a star, she was just so obnoxious.
Grayson, though? SWOON. My new book boyfriend! I love him! Grayson is so sweet and playful and charming!
Right On Cue combines some of the best subgenres/tropes in romance. Enemies to Lovers, cozy winter cabin, forced proximity, he falls first. Such a good read!
3.5 stars
This book was fun and I liked the history between the two characters. But the miscommunication was so bad and basically the same thing happened twice and it was so annoying. Emmy learned nothing from what happened when they were teenagers and eavesdropping on conversation. It was rough.
*Thank you netgalley and Putnam
I'm glad I read the preface "This one's for me" before beginning the book. I think it lowered my expectations just a bit, just in the way that this book wasn't for anyone but her so it might not have some of the typical elements that I love in books. This book was filled with some of my favorite tropes—enemies to lovers and forced proximity. I did enjoy our characters but their miscommunication was something else and so unnecessary. The pacing felt a little odd and inconsistent but overall I did enjoy the plotline and our characters.
Right On Cue by Fallon Ballard
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Copy and paste enemies to lovers who reconcile after a falling out and you’ll have Right On Cue. If you’re a Rom Com fan, then this is definitely something you’ll enjoy. I just found it’s not anything revolutionary. The one difference compared to others is essentially the “fake dating” trope shining through a bit as both of the main characters are in a Rom Com film together. It was interesting to see that through the lens of a film being made. I did feel when Emmy and Grayson finally admitted their feelings for each other, when they finally made up after their misunderstanding, and the events that took place in the epilogue were pretty lackluster. I felt like there was a lot of chemistry lacking in these moments and it just felt uninspiring. I also couldn’t help but cringe at the amount of times I read “Grayson fucking West” throughout the book. The author definitely tried using this as a way to emphasize how the main character was feeling but to me it felt unnecessary. I can appreciate how the author was proving emphasis on the capabilities men have with feelings.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for a copy of this ARC in exchange for my honest review. If you’re a lover of Rom Coms or maybe even newer to them, I definitely would say it’s worth a read. This book is also available now!
