This is not my first Falon Ballard book, and it won't be my last, but this one felt les put together than the others. It did start to come together for me about maybe a third to a halfway through, and it did become more enjoyable as the story went on. I had a hard time connecting with the characters, and the beginning portion of the book felt like I was walking into a story that had been started but that I hadn't read yet. I did not enjoy the random "magazine" or gossip blog exerpts throughout the book. It didn't feel like it added anything to the story. My favorite parts of this book were when Emmy was talking with her mom. Her mom was hilarious! The chemistry wasn't there for me for this book. I look forwardbto more of her books because I have loved the others and highly recommend Lease on Love and Just My Type.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

I’ve loved Falon Ballard since I got my hands on the ARC of “Lease on Love.” “Right on Cue” did not disappoint and is my favorite of her books. It’s a perfect enemies to lovers, he fell first story. I loved Emmy and Grayson and I definitely need a spinoff book of Liz’s story.

I am a sucker for second chances and Hollywood romances, so this book was right up my alley.

Emmy Harper is Hollywood royalty - her parents were industry icons, and she’s become an accomplished screenwriter. Grayson West is an action star with a himbo reputation. As teenagers they starred opposite each other in a movie - an experience that went so badly it ended Emmy’s short-lived acting career. When trouble arises while casting Emmy’s newest rom-com, she finds herself in front of the camera for the first time in over fifteen years - with none other than Grayson West playing her leading man. How can she pretend to be in love with someone she can’t stand?

Tropes: Second Chance, Enemies-to-Lovers, Coworkers with Benefits, Celebrity Romance, Forced Proximity

What I liked:
- Both MCs are well-rounded characters, with believable insecurities.
- The chemistry and sexual tension 😍I love Emmy & Grayson together.
- Great banter. Their convos, quips, and teasing felt like a real couple.
- I’ve read several books with these little blurbs and articles between chapters. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. In this case, they all served the book really well.
- Wasn’t a big fan of how the third act break up came about (see below) but I did enjoy the resolution.
- I love the dynamic between the best friend and Emmy’s mom.

There were a couple of small things that prevented this from being a five-star read for me:

- The circumstances that find Emmy and Grayson both cast in her newest film are questionable at best. And some of the other ‘Hollywood’ type stuff seemed a little uninformed. *BUT* not enough to diminish my enjoyment of the book. I’m okay with suspending belief if the rest of the book is good.
- I wish slightly more time had been spent explaining how Grayson felt when they were younger. The experience shaped Emmy in a pretty profound way, even changing the trajectory of her career. Yet the explanation for why Grayson acted the way that he did is brief to the point it could easily be missed.
- The third-act break-up felt a little contrived. It’s not even that I mind the miscommunication trope - it’s that Emmy and Grayson repeatedly reiterate how much they trust one another, only for Emmy to immediately believe the worst of Grayson.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing an advanced reader copy of this book. I look forward to buying it once it comes out.

I love enemies to lovers, second chance romance, and a Hollywood romance, all of which Right on Cue has - but unfortunately, this wasn't for me. The lead character, Emmy, is really immature, and that immaturity was reflected throughout the book overall. The love interest, Grayson, is quite flat and a jerk for so long, and their relationship doesn't have much depth. I just found myself rolling my eyes at this too often and was quite disappointed in the surface level writing.

I am a huge fan of Lease on Love and will happily pick up any book by Fallon Ballard! This was enjoyable but not particularly memorable. I read it a while back and, for me, it blends in with a number of other Hollywood romances I’ve read. That said, it’s a fun read so worth grabbing if you’re in the mood for a quick light read.

Unfortunately, I didn’t love this novel. I had a hard time getting on board with the MC’s motivations and to be honest, got a little sick of her saying ‘Grayson Fucking West.’ I also found the climax and resolution to be incredibly predictable. I’m bummed this book was not for me, but I adore Falon Ballard’s other works and she will remain an auto-read author for me.

Falon Ballard knows just how to write the fun, cute, good time romances with a lot of heart. I am a lover of movies and celebrities/pop culture so this was right up my alley.
I loved the insight to making a movie and the parts on set were really fun.
Emmy was a great lead and paired with Grayson I really enjoyed their relationship. I love a little second chance and of course paired with enemies to lovers. Both characters had such great emotional depth and the story did have a serious and more emotional moments that really added to the characters and their stories. The third act breakup really threw me off though and that is the one factor of this story I did not care for. However, everything besides that I had a really great time and enjoyed so much.

Thank you to Netgally and Putnam books for the advanced copy!

This book reads so fast, but is just kinda mid? It reminded me so much of Will They or Won't They, but without all of the emotional build-up. I wanted more depth, more longing, more pain! The costars to lovers is fun, though we didn't get to focus on Emmy and her writing very much. It all felt very surface level and almost more about Grayson? I dunno.

I found this book to move a bit slow, especially at first. It picks up around the middle of the book. It follows a fairly typical romance template going from hating each other to love to breakup to making up in the end with some unique circumstances with made it worth continuing to read it. I didn’t care for the frequent use of the “f word” throughout the book. It added nothing to the story and was often used to be degrading someone.
I give it 4 stars. It may have much more appeal to others than it did to me.

4.5 rounded up to 5! this book was SO CUTE! i’m a sucker for a sweet and sexy romcom and this one hit the spot. literally the only negative in this book is emmy repeatedly shooting herself in the foot when it came to grayson. it was really hard to watch her assume the worst time and time again when it was so blatantly obvious he was head over heels for her. HOWEVER i do think that insecurity in relationships is real and very prevalent today so it was an accurate representation of how my generation cuts people off without understanding the whole story. i literally thought that the enemies to lovers romantic comedy with emotional layers was so well done and the plot being on the set of a movie was of course perfection. honestly i loved this so much — 100% a quick, cute, and enjoyable read.

"Right On Cue" by Falon Ballard was my first novel by this author. If you are looking for a Hallmark Channel-esque read, this enemies to lovers story (with quite a bit more *spiciness* than would ever make it into an actual Hallmark Movie!), might just be for you!

It was full of humor, emotional tension, perfect wintery holiday vibes, and picture perfect movie-ready characters. In fact, that's exactly where this story lives, as its plot revolves around the making of a seriously cute romantic comedy.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this galley copy of "Right On Cue."

It is scheduled for publication on February 27, 2024.

I devoured this one. I loved reading the tension between the two that rekindled their romance. I also thought the story line was so unique. I can’t wait to purchase a physical copy!

Thank you PENGUIN GROUP Putnam, G.P. Putnam's Sons and NetGallery for the advanced copy of the book.

Background: This was the first book I ever read from Falon Ballard, but after this one I will add her books to my TBR. I typically enjoy audiobooks but read this ebook and plan on listening to the audiobook! Highly recommend!

This book: Instantly was addicted to this book. Enemies to lovers trope with forced proximity. Great banter between the main characters!

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️4.5 Stars

3 1/2 stars- Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes so I was looking forward to reading this one. I liked the setting of reading Emmy and Grayson's love story on a movie set at an inn. I overall liked this book, but I feel like my biggest issue was the miscommunication reason behind the third act breakup. I liked Emmy, but I found Grayson to be unlikeable at times, especially during the first half of the book when he kept being unprofessional on the scenes only they shot. This was my first time reading a book by Falon Ballard, and I would read another one!

3.5/5 ⭐️’s
I had a fun time reading this book! I’m glad I checked this book out without knowing anything about the overall plot or author.

Synopsis:
In this rom-com by Fallon Ballard, a former actress-turned-screenwriter finds herself back in the spotlight, only for her romantic lead to be the one man she can’t stand. Hollywood darling Emmy Harper is considered the queen of writing romantic comedies. That is, until tragedy struck and she swore she’d never write another happy ending again. After some time away, she comes back to the spotlight but finds that it might be harder to get back into the game with her childhood enemy co-staring next to her.

Pros: Overall, I found this story to be very a quick, fast-pace story and I was so I excited to get back to reading it any chance I got. However, more in the sense that it was an obsessive storyline, which was very fun to read about, and I had to know what happens next!

Cons: I will warn future readers that the first 20% of the book had me wondering if I should dnf. The beginning of the story was progressing too fast with little development in characters interiority and I felt it needed an establish setting before moving onto the rest of the story. I also disliked how immature the characters handled their arguments and continued to miscommunicate almost to the very end. Also not a fan of third act breakup but it was resolved very quickly, so that could be a pro or a con.

Fallon Ballard is someone I’m going to keep on my radar for future rom-coms. And I would say I’m pleased with the cute storyline with a lovable characters.

I absolutely loved this second-chance romcom! Equal parts sugar and spice, this love story was perfect! I read it in a single day.

Really liked reading this book! It was sweet but there was still a lot of tension between the MCs.

One thing I’m not sure I loved is both MCs having issues with their dads. While I do think it’s probably a better representation of real life, both characters having stuff from their past to work on, I’m not sure if both having daddy issues is the way to go. But overall the book was still lovely!

Thank you Penguin Group Putnam for my copy! All thoughts are my own.

I read Fallon Ballard’s debut, Lease on Love, and it quickly became one of my all time favorites. It made her an autobuy author for me and my goodness does it feel good to read a new book by her! I didn’t love Just My Type last year so I was nervous…but this book was perfection!

It’s a celebrity romance about two actors who think the other hate each other and have to work together on a new Rom Com. It was a delightful read and reminded me why I love to read books. It totally took over my brain and I couldn’t wait to keep reading.

Synopsis:

“Emmy Harper is no stranger to Hollywood, having penned some of the most popular movies of the past few years. But her latest project has hit a standstill—unable to find the perfect leading lady, Emmy’s been recruited to take on the role herself, dusting off acting skills she hasn’t used in over a decade.Things take a turn for the worse when a she's left with the one costar she can’t trust: Grayson West. A blockbuster action hero known for his megawatt smile and impossible abs, Grayson is anyone’s dream of a romantic lead. Too bad Emmy still blames him for her disastrous first movie and the early end to her acting career. The friction between the two risks tanking the movie, and no one knows if it’s lingering awkwardness from their youth or unresolved sexual tension. But if they want to save the production—and their own careers—they need to get their acts together quickly, both on and off camera.” —NetGalley

What I Liked:

The Premise—Celebrity romance is one of my favorite tropes but it was also a great time to read it after seeing the film Anyone But You recently! Rom Com book.film supremacy.

The Setting—A cozy cute inn in a small town AND a film set. Quite possibly my two favorite things!

The Characters and Their Chemistry—I loved Emmy and Grayson. I loved how they resolved things and weren’t afraid of their feelings. Plus I liked that they weren’t keeping their feelings a secret from the rest of the set!

What Didn’t Work:

3rd Act Pacing—It all came to a bit of a grinding halt in the 3rd act for me. I didn’t love the reasoning for the 3rd act break up either but at least it didn’t last too long.

Character Authenticity: 4/5 Spice Rating: 2/5 Overall Rating: 4/5

Right on Cue is a double celebrity, opposites attract, second-chance romance (kind of), enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, insta love situation. The single POV meant the female main character, Emmy, felt really fleshed out, but the male main character, Grayson, less so. This story did a good job with "show me, don't tell me," but it was very heavy on the physicality and I would have preferred to see more emotional development. This was my third Falon Ballard novel, and it's another solid romcom for me.

Thank you to Putnam Books for gifting me with an ARC to review! All opinions are my own.

Definitely my favorite Falon Ballard book! This was a delight to read. Love a Hollywood love story. Pair that with a second chance romance and two strong characters and it made for a good story the whole way through.
