Right on Cue is a second chance romance, enemies to lovers, celebrity romance.

Emmy Harper and Grayson West first worked together as teenagers and things ended horribly. When Grayson is unexpectedly cast in Emmy’s romcom movie the two have to work together. On set they have awful chemistry and their constant anger is bringing down the whole film. One thing leads to another and they decide to be enemies with benefits for the sake of the movie. Will they be able to play it cool and keep their enemy status or will someone catch feelings?

This book is full of banter, tension, and spice. It is also a really sweet and heartfelt love story about how our past hurt can impact our ability to fully connect and trust in a relationship.

Thank you to Penguin Group Putnam for the e-arc for the addictive book! All opinions are my own.

After reading, Just My Type and really enjoying it, I was super excited when I got approved for this book. I love Hollywood romances so the premise sold me instantly as well. The first movie Emmy and Grayson were in tanked and they were reunited for a new Hallmark-esque film that Emmy wrote. While I liked the characters and the premise, I found myself kinda disappointed with how huge of a role miscommunication especially towards the end of the book. At the beginning of the story, there’s a lot of mentions of Emmy’s grief & while we get to see little glimpses of it, I wish it was more central to the plot than it was. Once the romance starts, it felt like all of the side plots went away. The dedication at the beginning of the book said “this one’s for me,” so I’m glad Ballard got a write a book they were excited about and you really do get to see that passion and fun through the book!

Thank you to Netgalley and G.P. Putnam & sons for and arc in exchange for an honest review.

Solid 4 and at times more like a 4.5. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this new to me author. I didn't go into this book with any expectations but I certainly loved it! The story was cute and I enjoyed the characters and their banter. I enjoyed the books theme a lot as well. Though it wasn't a Christmas book per say there were definitely some Christmas-y elements sprinkled in which I liked. I'm usually not a fan of the friends with benefits story line but this one o enjoyed. My biggest complaint was the last minute drama. It seemed a little forced and unrealistic in some ways. The way Emmy decided to overhear a part of a conversation, jump to conclusions and not at least talk or listen to Grayson's side of the story annoyed me. Overall it was a fantastic read and I'll be sure to read more books by this author in the future

Falon Ballard does it again! I loved every second of this book. A steamy enemies to lovers forced to be in a movie together after their debut together was a total fail from their teen years. After hating every second of working together, what's the one way to get rid of all the tension... get involved in an enemies with benefits arrangement. Nothing bad can come out of that correct?

This book centers around the making of a romantic comedy film from Emmy, the daughter of Hollywood royalty, and hunky action star it man Grayson. You see them hate each other, love each other and then hate each other again before they really talk through their issues. I really enjoyed seeing the behind the scenes of what filming a rom com could be like. The female relationship between and Emmy and her best friend/director Liz was wonderful to see two women work together, challenge, and support each other.

This was such an enjoyable read and made me wish the movie was actually being made! Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for providing me with this addictive read's digital review copy in exchange for my thoughts and feelings!

After a string of of awful rom coms in my TBR list, that I unfortunately skimmed through, Right on Cue was like a breath of fresh air. It was funny, it was romantic, it was sweet, and it was everything I look for in romance novels. It had heart, it had depth and it did an excellent job capturing the love between Emmy and Grayson.

I enjoyed following along to their story, how they ended up reconnecting years later and the slow burn that took place to ultimately cause them to fall in bed together. ;-) It was sweet to see Emmy slowly lower her walls, and allow herself to fall in love with Grayson, and on the flipside, Grayson was a kind, sweet, underestimated actor wishing for someone to just *see* him.

The one piece that I wish had a bit more background was Grayson's side of things from their breakdown as teenagers. We knew what happened, but it clearly left such an impact on Emmy 15+ years later. We need to have more of a dialogue or conversation to explain Grayson's side, for Emmy to properly explain what that did to her, and honestly, to hear what that breakdown did to *him.* That's the one piece that I wish the author had gone more into detail with.

Overall, I will absolutely be recommending this to friends and family!

I am a self-admitted book worm, and I have been the majority of my life. Here lately, I gravitate towards suspenseful books. One genre that I have also been gravitating towards is books that make me laugh. Because of this, I was very excited to read this book.

Pros: I tend to be hesitant to read books from a new author, because it tends to take me a while to get used to their particular writing style. This was not the case with this book. I liked that it was told in first person.

Cons: None at all! I loved the book from the beginning to the end. I was actually a bit sad that I got done with it.

I absolutely loved this book. I empathized with both of the main characters, and I liked how their characters were developed. I definitely recommend this book.

I haven't read Falon Ballard's other two books, but reading this delightful and surprisingly spicy romantic comedy has me ready to add them to my list. The plot immediately draws you in - Emmy a romantic comedy screen writer is cast for the leading lady of her upcoming movie while her childhood enemy, the smoldering Grayson West is cast as her love interest. While this starts truly like enemies to lovers, it becomes quite clear that Grayson falls first for or maybe he has been in love with Emmy since they first met many years ago as costars.
The filming location is set in a cozy wintery California inn, but both Emmy and Grayson cannot fake the chemistry the movie deserves. In an effort to save the movie she wrote, Emmy suggests that she and Grayson sleep together to alleviate any tension and help with their on screen chemistry. What was to be a one time thing, turns into an every night thing and the production crew is elated with how much better the movie is progressing. It's only natural for Emmy to question if she can consider her relationship anything more than costars with benefits, but wow is it frustrating that it takes her so long to do SO.
I loved reading this book, I devoured it quickly, but I'm deducting a star for a few reasons. In the beginning of the book or what seems like too many chapters) every time Emmy refers to Grayson it is as " Grayson Fucking West"- it just gets sooooo incredibly annoying and seems immature for someone in their 30s who has an Oscar nomination.
Secondly, to piggyback this, there is an incredibly frustrating misunderstanding and Emmy is once again so immature and childish in her response. It probably doesn't help that a misunderstanding trope is my least favorite. Despite these minor hangups, I loved how everything wrapped up and the chemistry between the two main leads makes you root for them from their first hookup onward. I highly recommend picking up this book in February or if you do ARC reviews, submitting a request through NetGalley

This book is definitely a feel good romcom just in time for Christmas. The characters were witty and had just the right amount of fire and heat between them right from the start. One thing I didn’t like was the author never went back to address the reason they originally hated each other (mentioned multiple times but never resolved). Maybe that was the point and they just subconsciously moved on but I would have liked to know why he did what he did in the first place. Overall left me believing in love and all things movie magic.

This was a really fun concept for a rom-com. I love any story that involves celebrities, especially when romance is involved. I’ve always been interested in how actors are able to have chemistry on screen but not fall for each other in real life. I’m glad that love finally won with Emmy and Grayson. I would have enjoyed more background/description on the main characters because I really liked them and wanted to know more. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys 2nd chance romance and enemies to lovers. Thank you to G.P Putnam’s Sons and Net Galley for providing me with a copy of this book!

Right on Cue is a a second-chance and enemies to lovers romance set in Hollywood. Emmy Harper is an Oscar-winning screenwriter and a “nepo baby” of two Hollywood stars who finds herself starring in her own film for the first time in years. Grayson West is your typical hunky action movie star who ends up starring alongside Emmy. Emmy and Grayson first met on set for their respective first movie years before, and after a disastrous kiss (and movie reviews!), neither has spoken in years.

I do feel Emmy & Greyson’s relationship is a bit forced as they switch from zero on-screen chemistry to a perfect pairing instantaneously, but I do love how Falcon Ballard develops their relationship in the second half! Emmy’s personal and professional struggles felt so relatable to me and I loved seeing her work through them. This is a great curl up on the couch weekend read filled with a lot of steamy moments!

Right on Cue by Fallon Ballard is an enemies to lovers, enemies with benefits, and close proximity romance. This book had spice (a ton), a taste of banter, and a perfect cozy winter setting.

I have my thoughts on this book, I loved the premise of it and for what it is, it was great. I did not technically like the mmc in this book considering what he did in the beginning, and Emmy also got me a bit made at times if I do say so. However, they are actors and actors come with a ton of drama, which this book was full of. You follow Emmy and Grayson who work together on a movie for Emmy's book adaptation, however, they have worked together before and it wasn't pretty. There is a lot of unsolved conflict between these two, meaning miscommunication! It is heavy in this book, and honestly I got the feeling of wanting to scream at these characters. We follow them along as they try to work this out in the process of shooting the movie, and how with their background, have to work towards some of their problems and what that means for the work they do.

Thank you to NetGalley and GP Putnam Sons for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Right on Cue by Falon Ballard is my favorite story by her yet! Emmy Harper is the daughter of two Hollywood actors and prefers to stay behind the scenes, working as a writer. When her movie is in trouble, she has no choice but to become the leading lady in her own film and co-star with none other than her former teenage crush, actor Grayson West. Grayson and Emmy worked together as teenagers and things did not go according to plan. Nonetheless, these two rival co-stars are forced to work together and over time, real feelings develop on the set of their romantic comedy.

The romance is steamy and the chemistry is undeniable between these two leading actors. Ballard's newest romance read easily and transported my mind to the cozy film set in Pine Springs. I loved the banter between Emmy and Grayson, as well as Emmy's inner dialogue. In addition, the picturesque setting and enemies-to-lovers and forced proximity tropes made this book truly enjoyable. While I am not a fan of the miscommunication trope, I did think the scenario was realistic and handled well once the characters communicated about their issues.

Emmy and Grayson are a true match and bring out the best in each other!

Thank you for the ARC! I was so excited after reading Lease on and Just my Type, that I knew I had to get my hands on Right on Cue. It did not disappoint.

Emmy Harper is the daughter of two Hollywood stars who, after a movie flopped as a teenager. has given up acting to become a very successful writer. Her costar from that failed movie, Grayson West, has gone on to become a Hollywood heartthrob and action movie actor. When she can't find an actress for her new movie and the actor back out last minute, Emmy and Grayson are forced to face their past and work through their insecurities in order to make a successful movie.

This is a steamy romance that we all want and love, while at the same time peeling back layers so that we understand more about the characters back story and personality. I will always recommend her books to any romance lovers!

This book was just lovely, and had everything you could want in a Romantic Comedy - likeable characters, witty banter, swoony moments, a cozy winter inn setting, and great spice. The main characters are both actors in a major movie, and I thought the forced proximity filming of a sex scene for the movie was such a fun and unique idea. It was also nice to see the male main character have some insecurities and vulnerabilities as well in the story. My biggest irk about this book was that the main characters, Emmy and Grayson, call each other by their last names (Harper and West), which to me could also be first names. So while it was a good part of the banter, it kept throwing me off. I also generally really dislike the miscommunication trope, but I thought it was handled well here. Overall, I think was a great wintertime romance!

💞Believe me when I say you have to clear your schedule on 2/27/24 'cause you need to read this book.💞

When Emmy ends up being the best choice to bring the character she wrote to life, certain insecurities start to resurface. After all, she quit acting for a reason. Her only attempt resulted in public humiliation. But for the sake of her project, she accepts the role. Only the unexpected happens, and she ends up having to pair up with the guy who played a big part in her quitting acting in the first place. How do you pretend to be in love with a guy you can't stand?

Due to their forced proximity, they have to figure out each other, and I really liked how the story unfolded. There were several moments of tension where I was like, 'for the love of God, just get undressed already,' but they were still in the 'I can't stand you' phase. To me, it was clear from the beginning how much Grayson was into Emmy, my girl who was blind to it. 😅

I really liked how they grew closer and how the barriers fell, and how Grayson isn't afraid to be vulnerable around Emmy. Him taking care of her was heartwarming. 🫠

There were so many times I caught myself smiling while reading this book. There were too many to count. I loved every moment and highly recommend it.

Thanks to Putnam for the copy of this book!

Falon Ballard takes on a more emotional celebrity, second chance romance in Right in Cue, and it’s a delight. It was way too easy to binge most of this book in one sitting - Emmy and Grayson are an easy couple to cheer for, and the side characters are just lovely. My favorite part of this is the way Emmy and Grayson built each other up when they were struggling with feelings of being insignificant or inadequate. They balanced each other so, so well.

Read if you:
- aren’t too old to need your mom
- have or want a partner who makes you feel capable
- sometimes get caught up in the emotions of a situation
- enjoy celebrity romance, coworkers with benefits, or second chance romance tropes

3.75 - Cute rom-com set in Hollywood! With these types of books you always know what to expect but I found Emmy’s narration to be particularly fun to read and relatable. I will say that the third act break up was extremely frustrating in this case but again…it’s all fairly predictable and comes with the territory of this type of book. The banter and chemistry between the FMC and MMC was cute!

Enemies to lovers while making a Hollywood romcom

Emmy and Grayson first collide as teens starring in a romantic movie. Their initial chemistry transforms into antagonism after she overhears him making unkind remarks. 15 years later, they meet up again. Emmy is now an award winning screenwriter preparing to star in her upcoming romcom. Grayson is an action adventure star who has been drafted to play the lead role in the movie. Both are out of their comfort zone and need to figure out how to work together. As they film spicy scenes together and communicate about what happened in the past and how they view each other now, they move from costars and adversaries to friends to more.

Ballard develops their closeness very convincingly. Their longstanding chemistry develops as they support each other, open up with each other, and have fun together. As they build a new, more mature relationship, they are also experiencing the small town and holiday experiences of the romcom.

Both main characters are very likable, with believable vulnerabilities. Emmy is insecure because her parents are famous and she worries that people view her as a nepo baby. Grayson worries that he's perceived as a himbo and that people attribute his success to his looks. Ultimately, they both learn about the importance of communicating.

Satisfying feel good story!

Thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley.com for the advance copy. This is an honest review.

I loved this book! The relationships between the characters were solid and adorable. Yes, the a couple of the conflicts may have been predictable but I was so sucked into this book I didn't mind and I couldn't stop reading it. The main characters had a couple things I wish had been explored or resolved but I highly recommend giving this book a shot!

Falon Ballard and celebrity romances are like my two favorite things. 🤣

Short Synopsis:
Emmy Harper is an Oscar winning screenwriter. When she pens her next romcom, and struggles finding a leading lady, she steps in front of the camera. Only to have Grayson West play opposite of her - a guy she has loathed since she was a teenager.

My Thoughts:
I love a good celebrity romance and love that we got one from Falon this year. This one was so cute! There were so many swoony moments from this book. I do wish we got a dual POV from it though. I felt like I didn’t know or understand Grayson’s motives.

If you go in expecting a book like Falon’s last two - funny one-liners, epic friend text group, etc you might be disappointed. This one is different. Not better or worst but evolved in a different way. It’s more emotional, steamier and heart wrenching.
