Finlay Donovan is fun for the whole family!
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ✨
We're 4 books into the Finlay Donovan series and I am still enjoying every new entry. While this one was not my favorite of the series, it does a good job of moving the story forward and introducing new plot points that keep me coming back every year. In this iteration, Finlay and her family hit the road with a trip to Atlantic City where the chaos continues to follow them.
Similar to a cozy mystery, the Finlay Donovan series is lighthearted, comedic fun. It's often a series that I recommend to coworkers, family, and friends who want to get into reading. It feels like a safe option to recommend to anyone while still being entertaining and unique.
The series differs in that it's one continuous story throughout the series and not a new mystery to solve every book like a transitional cozy mystery. So you need to read the series in order to understand. I would say Elle Cosimano has been breaking ground on a new genre all together, cozy thrillers!
The first Finlay Donovan book, Finlay Donovan is Killing It is a 5-star read for me and I highly recommend getting into the series. My ranking as of now is 1, 2, 4, 3. I think it's absolutely worth getting into if you're interested in dipping your toe into the genre. And if you're starting to feel a bit burnt out on Finlay and her shenanigans, this 4th installment wraps up nicely and could be a good stopping point for some reads. Personally I'll be eyeing the next one when it comes out next year!
This was a fun installment in the series. It mostly redeemed itself from my disappointment in book 3. Finlay and Vero are getting themselves in more hot water per usual, or it might have been a little icy this time. I enjoyed them in the setting of Atlantic City. It tied up a lot of the loose ends from book 3. You’ve got a couple cliffhangers at the end of the epilogue but it is a much more put together book.
I'm still loving this series! Finlay and Vero head to Atlantic City and of course end up with some tagalongs...the kids, Finlay's ex-husband Steven, and her mom! They're out to rescue Javi, negotiate with a loan shark and find the stolen car, and of course they get themselves in all sorts of ridiculous situations. These books are always full of laugh out loud moments and I also enjoyed seeing Finlay and Nick's relationship grow as well as seeing Vero and Javi reunited. Definitely pick this series up if you haven't already.
we’re back to Finlay and Vero’s shenanigans and it’s a good one!
🎰 Atlantic City setting
🔍 hiding murders, discovering secrets, searching for the right & wrong people
⏩ story moves quick, it’ll keep you busy!
🎧 highly recommend listening on audio
🧗♀️ left us on another cliffhanger, leaving me guessing what I thought I knew??
the Finlay Donovan series proves to be the best kind of popcorn mystery thriller with good splashes of romance and comedy. it always delivers!
I have dearly missed having Finlay and Vero and all of their shenanigans in my life, bringing chaos and excitement with them. Seriously though, this series has brought so much enjoyment to my life, and it now feels like these two are friends that I get to tag along with for a while every now and then. Naturally, I was thrilled to jump into this book and see what these two have gotten themselves into now.
What I discovered was that Finlay and Vero picked up immediately where they left off in the last book, and somehow managed to get themselves into the biggest mess yet. And just to make things a little more interesting, they find themselves on an impromptu road trip to Atlantic City with Finlay’s mother, her ex-husband Steven, and her two young children who are borderline feral. But wait, there’s more … because a certain hot detective shows up with a few law enforcement buddies to add some extra tension to the story.
I have to admit that part of the draw of these books is the ridiculous, over-the-top fiascos that Finlay and Vero find themselves in on a regular basis. There’s at least one situation that occurs in each book that never feels believable, like two petite women being able to move the bodies of full-grown men, but honestly, the entire storyline of any of the books in the series would be about as likely to happen in real life as a petite woman being able to move the dead body of a full-grown man. But that’s what makes the series so charming to me, that I can willingly suspend my disbelief and lose myself in a silly, fluffy book.
The other draw, for me, is seeing Finlay’s character evolve throughout the series. She’s so much more confident and assertive than she was when we met her in book 1, and she seems to be able to juggle life’s stressors better. I wanted to shout a cheer for her when she learned how to stand up to Steven, since he has spent three previous books kind of walking all over her and not really doing much when it comes to being a dad. I’m hoping that he has learned his lesson and makes some changes in the next book. And while Steven hasn’t shown much growth, the relationship between Finlay and Vero seems to be rock solid and as full as trust as ever, drawing them closer with every illegal act that they find themselves mired in.
I’m a sucker for a good, fast-paced book with plenty of action and lots of humor, and I know that a Finlay Donovan book is going to give me that. I found myself laughing out loud often while reading, and the fast pace of the story started early, and kept up right until the end. There were plenty of characters from earlier in the series that made appearances, some good guys, some bad guys, and we got to meet some new characters too, but they’re all so distinct that I never found it difficult to keep them straight in my head.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It gave me a little more insight into Vero, but it still left me frustrated at how rash she was at times. She jumped into situations and made things worse more than once, and I wanted to reach into my kindle and shake her, and I had to remind myself that she was acting on her emotions rather than logic. Other than that, I loved how this story included a little bit of other genres: themes from women’s literature in the relationship between Finlay and Vero and Finlay’s journey towards standing up for herself against Steven, romance in the slow-burn relationship between Finlay and Detective Nick Anthony, and now that I think about it, they’re reminiscent of the Stephanie Plum novels in a lot of ways. This is a book that I can wholeheartedly recommend, with a caveat: these books are better when read in order, since you’ll be lost if you don’t.
Finlay and Vero are at it again! This series has been so fun to read and I’ve loved it so much. I’ve laughed out loud countless times. I wanted to love this one, but it just didn’t feel the same as the other three books in the series. So much of this one felt like a stretch and felt rushed. I still enjoyed, but it definitely wasn’t what I was hoping for. Thank you Minotaur Books and NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for an honest review!
Finlay is back! And this time she is on her way to Atlantic city, not only with Vero, but with her kids, mom and ex husband… talk about a trip!
This series is so fun and I absolutely love Finlay and Veros characters and dynamic. Atlantic city was the perfect setting for the mob, dirty cops, loan sharks, gambling and crazy adventures!
This definitely wasn’t my favourite in the series, but still a fun read and I can’t wait to see where this adventure takes them next as the ending of this one left us on a huge cliffhanger and sets up the next stories plot!
my rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Finlay Donovan has been a consistent four-star series for me; this book was no exception. Finlay and Vero are such a funny and unlikely pair and I love following them along on their hijinks. This book has everything I've loved from the series so far plus we got more backstory about Vero and got to see her character develop more in this book. I listened to the audiobook and as always, the narrator does a great job bringing these characters to life. With the cliffhanger ending and a couple of other things set up in this book, I think the next book will be one of my favorites in the series.
Thank you NetGalley, St. Martin's Press and Macmillian Audio for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
Finley and Vero’s journey through their continued chaos felt like a high stakes race in this book. Finley seems to have a knack for making really bad decisions, which can be occasionally frustrating as a reader. However, Finley and Vero’s dumb luck keeps the pages light and easy to keep turning!
Enjoyable, light read. Not my favorite in the series because a few things were too improbable, but I still enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to the next one.
4.5 stars rounded up!
This was another fun and exciting episode to the Finlay Donovan series. It was exciting, with a lot of action and drama, and even if it was a sometimes ridiculous story, it was entertaining and fun to read. I also really enjoyed how a lot of the loose ends were tied together in this installment, and felt very satisfied by the ending. It was so exciting to be with all of these characters again, and to finally get some long-awaited plot lines fleshed out.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a DRC in exchange for my honest review!
Somehow this was the most over the top, outrageous Finlay Donovan book yet lol. And that is saying something! I love how silly and ridiculous this series is. It’s always a fun time and I absolutely love the characters. It was really interesting to see them maneuver their way around so many roadblocks, especially when the whole family and police force decide to join on your trip! You do have to suspend belief a bit with this series and just enjoy it for what it is. I will say I have to take a lot of breaks with this series because it’s so anxiety inducing lol. I love Finlay and this series and that cliff hanger! I am hooked! Can’t wait for the next book l.
Finlay and Vero pick up right where they left off in the previous book in this series. The bulk of this one takes place in Atlantic City disguised as a girls weekend and once the action starts, it picks up speed. There are many comical moments and as expected, Finlay and Vero find themselves in sticky situations but manage to worm their way out of trouble! Both women have also found new interests that I hope to read more about in their next adventure! Thankfully, the ending hints that there may be more to this fun series!
I do not read too many series anymore but, the Finlay Donovan by Elle Cosimano series is one that I enjoy! This cozy mystery series is charming and makes me laugh out loud.
So, when I found out that the fourth book in the series, Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice, takes place in Atlantic City, New Jersey this Jersey girl was even more excited!
I always love the narration, and Angela Dawe always does such a great job keeping me entertained when I am listening.
The third book in the series had me thinking my run with Finlay was coming to an end, but this book had a completely fresh feel to it and I enjoyed it way more. If you didn’t like the third book as much, give the forth a chance.
I know there are always jokes and comments about people in NJ and there was a lot of stereotypical “Jersey” things that I was like really? did we have to include that? Including the delivery guy dropping off pizzas in an undershirt tank top. I’m sure other people in other states do the same on hot summer days! It’s not just a Jersey thing.
Overall, a fun cozy mystery that kept my hope for this series alive.

Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for providing me with an eARC of Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice in exchange for my honest review!
I've been having a ball with Finlay and Vero's antics since the first book, and I'm still enjoying it in this fourth entry. Sure, I do have to suspend my disbelief a lot of the time, but that's all right. You just have to accept that this is taking you through over-the-top territory, and if that's not your cup of tea, it's understandable. For me, it's what I'm willing to have fun with. Finlay and Vero remain lovable leads as they weave their way through the criminal underworld, barely avoid multiple attempts on their lives, and try their best to stop their family and friends from becoming exposed to all of these shady shenanigans. And while I do think the series feels like it could hit a formulaic rut sometime soon, I appreciate how this book leaves us with an intriguing denouement that makes me very curious as to what will transpire in the next novel.
Overall, I'm officially rating Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice 3.5 out of 5 stars, which I'm bumping up to 4 stars. I can't wait to gobble up more of Elle Cosimano's series.
A big bang to the FINLAY DONOVAN series! This book was great, and I loved that we got to see a little more of Vera's backstory. I honestly am hoping this isn't the last book, but if it is, at least I will know peace. Finlay is such a wonderful character, and this universe is the best escape. I cannot wait to see what Elle Cosimano writes next.

Well, this was a wild, ridiculous and completely unrealistic ride but that’s exactly what I love about this series!
In Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice, they changed locations again but still managed to include the majority of the ensemble of weirdos. Finlay’s mother, ex husband, kids, police, and even the FBI manage to highjacked Finlay’s and Vero’s trip to Atlanta City. There were even dogs who are critical characters in this book.
Atlantic city was a fun new location with things like strip clubs & psychics🤭. A perfect place for the hijinks ensue.
Finlay and Vero must investigate a kidnapping, protect a young hacker and of course solve a murder without the family and law enforcement finding out.
With all the deaths, the series remains cozy and hilarious. Also especially in Rolling the Dice, the series gets a bit steamy as Finlay’s life starts to mimicking her romantic suspense novels.
The novel is also a page turner. Although, Finlay and Vero have managed to the stay lucky throughout the series, there was so much suspense around how they were going to get out of this disaster. Will they get caught by the police? Will they stay under the thumb of the mob? Then there were all the will-they-won’t-they storylines to keep us guessing.
Now, what everyone loves most about this series is the relationship between Finlay and Vero.Finlay and Vero remind me of the amateur detectives version of Grace and Frankie ( if you haven’t seen that show do it). I love that they are a found family who are basically raising Finlay’s kids together.
Specifically In Rolling the Dice, I’m love seeing Finlay and Vero finding romance and getting success. They deserve their flowers.
I have read and enjoy all the books in the series and I can’t wait for the next installment.
Thank you to Netgalley for gifting me this novel in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you NetGalley, Elle Cosimano, & St. Martin's Press/Minotaur Books for this e-arc in exchange for my honest review.
This is the fourth book in the Finlay Donovan series, and it did not disappoint! Book one is still my favorite but I enjoyed this one a lot more than the last two! Even though the situations Finlay and Vero find themselves in is silly, and a lot of times unbelievable, I love how funny and chaotic these books are. I also liked how this book had all the characters were forced to be together and it was so entertaining! I also loved that we got to know Finlay's mom a little more in this book. She's a trip!
I kind of expected this to be the last book in the series but with that ending I'm expecting at least one more book to follow!
It wasn't my favorite in the series but it was still a solid 4 star read for me!
Finlay, Vero and the rest of the family are off to Atlantic City to rescue Javi who has been kidnapped. When Finlay and Vero come to meet Javi’s kidnapper Marco and find him dead. To make matters worse Nick and the cops show up in town looking for the Russian mob boss who always seems to evade capture. Can Finlay and Vero save and rescue Javi right under the cops noses, along with keeping the charade of a vacation with her mom, kids and ex-husband?
I have to say this is my favorite book of the series! There is nonstop action and hilarity as well as some steamy romance! I loved it!
Finlay and Vero are back, and this time they’re off to Atlantic City to rescue Vero’s childhood crush! Tagging along with them are her two kids, her mom, and her ex-husband (oh, my!).
I really enjoyed this book! I have loved this series so much, and book four brings the same antics, humor, and edge-of-your-seat excitement but developed the relationships between characters in that way you hope for from a fourth book.
The romantic relationships begin to solidify, and I thought that the development of Finlay’s relationship with her ex-husband Steven was a great benefit to this book! I really appreciate that Elle has written this story in a way where he has clearly messed up but also loves his kids and wants to do right by Finlay as a co-parent.
This is a fun and refreshing story and I can’t wait to see where book five takes us!
Thank you to Minotaur Books and NetGalley for an eARC. All thoughts are my own.
