Are you ready for a girls’ weekend getaway?

Finlay Donovan and her nanny Veronica Ruiz take it on the road from Virginia to Atlantic City, NJ for a “girls’ weekend”. However, they get bombarded with extra passengers, i.e. Finlay’s ex-husband Steven and the kids, also her mother Norma. How will Finlay and Vero snoop around loan sharks and the Russian mob to find Javi, and the missing Aston Martin with all these people in tow?

Finlay and Vero are queens of getting themselves into mischief and dangerous situations, and Rolls the Dice is no different. In this one, we get to be front row for Vero and Javi’s romance. Love will make you do crazy things and Vero pulls out all the stops to save Javi in Atlantic City. Meanwhile Finlay finds herself getting better acquainted with “hot cop” Nick. This hilarious duo are always masterminding the best ways to go about solving the crimes!

I am team Finlay! I LOVE a book with fierce friendships and banter. This one is filled with both. Will Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice be the last we read of Finlay? I’ll be on the edge of my seat waiting to find out!

Thank you to Minotaur Books and NetGalley for my eARC. All opinions expressed are solely my own.

Another hilarious installment in the Finlay Donovan series, this time we follow Finlay and Vero to Atlantic City to continue their shenanigans. Though they claim it's a girl's weekend -- which garners them some extra guests -- it's really a weekend of detective work for the duo, hunting for Javi and the stolen car and also dealing with Vero's debts.

It wouldn't be a Finlay Donovan if chaos didn't ensue, so of course there were dead bodies, police presence, and the Russian mafia. It's always fun reading how these two get themselves into and out of trouble and I never want to put the book down.

I hope there will be more for these guys!

"Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice" is a great addition to the series, and it was great to see many of the loose ends from the last book get wrapped up in this one. In some ways, it almost felt like the end of the series, although it introduced something new at the end. So maybe it's just a shift in focus to a new storyline. We'll see!

Either way, this series is always fast-paced, and this installment was no different. The situations the characters find themselves in are crazy, and Finlay and Vero's ability to think on their feet leads to some wild scenes. I especially loved when they were being held at gunpoint and were arguing back and forth about what the gun-wielder was most likely to do next, as if they didn't have a care in the world. Cocky, for sure!

If you like wild rides, implausible circumstances, and quick-witted heroines, you'll definitely want to check out the Finlay Donovan series. But start at the beginning. This particular book wouldn't work especially well as a standalone since so many of the elements at play relate to the earlier books in the series.

Thank you to Elle Cosimano, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for an advance review copy.

What a roller coaster ride of events!

This series should be read in order for the best reading experience and I am glad I knew the backstories of the characters... as it made the intricacies of the extended storyline even better.

Findlay has found herself smack dab in the middle of another dangerous murder mystery situation, and this time, it's Vero who needs help. So off to Atlantic City they go!

I continue to be frustrated with the situational lies between Nick and Findlay - I fully expected him to figure her absences out this time... not sure how she and Vero pulled it off again!! The nail-biting anticipation of the situations was very entertaining and I found myself addicted to these pages.

I am really appreciative to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for my complimentary ARC. I encourage you to read this series, as I found it easy to enjoy. I happily leave my review, and look forward to the next one in this series.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books in this series but at this point the novelty has work off and everything has become a little too far fetched for me. These remind me a lot of the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich which I previously enjoyed but ultimately discontinued for the same reasons.

BOOK: Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice (The Finlay Donovan Series Book 4)
AUTHOR: Elle Cosimano
PUB DATE: 3/5/24 by Minotaur Books
PAGES: 320
RATING: 4.5 stars
GENRE: Fun Mystery/Thriller

A BIG thank you to @netgalley & @stmartinspress for gifting me an advanced reading copy in exchange for my honest review!

SYNOPSIS: Finlay Donovan & her nanny/partner-in-crime Vero are in sore need of a girls’ weekend away, especially after the first three stories in this series. They plan a trip to Atlantic City, but odds are―seeing as it’s actually a cover story to negotiate a deal with a dangerous loan shark, save Vero’s childhood crush Javi, and hunt down a stolen car―it won’t be all fun and games. When Finlay’s ex-husband Steven and her mother insist on tagging along too, Finlay and Vero suddenly have a few too many meddlesome passengers along for the ride. If Finlay can juggle a jealous ex-husband, two precocious kids, her mother’s marital issues, a decomposing loan shark, and find Vero’s missing boyfriend, she might get out of Atlantic City in one piece. But will she fold under the pressure and come clean about the things she’s done, or be forced to double down?

REVIEW: This book was a darn good time! I’ve enjoyed the crazy antics that Finlay & Vero get into in this whole series, but this 4th book was my absolute favorite! It’s fast-paced and the girls are running non-stop to find not only the stolen Aston Martin but also Javi before the clock runs out! Filled with whodunits, rip-roaring humor and shenanigans only these two women can conjure! Hold on to your seats & place your bets to see how this fun mystery/thriller ends! I HIGHLY recommend!

Happy Reading!

Minivan Mom turns accidental hitwoman. AKA: Finlay Donovan 🙃. Cosimano had me cackling out loud one minute, and getting teared up over tender emotional scenes the next. All within the first five chapters! And it just kept getting better. I flew through this one and could not read it fast enough 🫶.
.
In this fourth installment of the series, Finlay and her nanny, Vero, are leaving for a weekend girls trip in Atlantic City. At least that’s their cover story. In reality, they need to find Vero’s kidnapped childhood friend while settling a score with a dangerous loan shark. Will their plan collapse when Finlay’s mother, ex-husband, and new cop boyfriend insist on tagging along? And when Finlay and Vero stumble across a murder, will they go down for the crime? Or will they uncover the real killer?
.
Vero is a sarcastic sharp-tongued spitfire with quippy comebacks for days. She is scrappy and cutthroat and by far my favorite character in this series 🖤. What’s a little felony or two between friends 😆? Finlay’s mom providing commentary on everyone’s sex life made for some cringey relatable moments 😂.
.
Finlay and Vero get into all the hijinks and this book was a rollicking good time! Might be my favorite of the series.
.
I read and listened to this one. Narration by Angela Dawe was A-MAZING (as always). She nails different voice inflections and her Vero voice is 🤌 *chef’s kiss*. Thank you to @macmillan.audio @minotaur_books and @netgalley for these ARCs!

“𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐤, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐩 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐭.”

I adore this series and after participating in the cover reveal back in July, I couldn’t wait to return to the wacky world of Finlay and the gang.

Elle Cosimano always finds a way to bring the characters that we love together, even when the action doesn’t take place in their hometown, with Fin, Vero, the kids, her mother and Steven put together on a road trip to Atlantic City, with Georgia, Nick, Sam and Charlie soon joining as part of a Fairfax County Police Department investigation. The humour continues to shine - the second chapter when Finlay’s mother shows up, alongside the stripper scene later on (and many one liners) had me howling. I appreciated how Finlay pushes Steven to examine the fact that even though they aren't together romantically anymore, it doesn't mean that they don't still have their family; this is an important progression in how they see their relationship, as a support and care for one another as parents of their children. We also saw some great progression in the romance department, but the major relationship highlight continues to be Finlay and Vero, in the way they look out for and care for one another. Cosimano keeps the story moving with short chapters and mini cliffhangers that comes together to a very satisfying conclusion, alongside an ending that has me anxiously awaiting the next book.

Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice is a story of getting over self-doubt, patience, protection, desperation, and greed. It is another worthy entry to this hilarious, engrossing, and entertaining series. By the way, I’d totally watch Margot Robbie as Finlay in an adaptation! Thank you to Minotaur Books & NetGalley for the ARC!

Elle does it again! I love the Finlay Donovan series and how it remains fun & light but has an air of mystery & thrill. Great for fans of Good Girls!

I love this series so much! Finlays back and doesn’t disappoint. These books are so much fun to read. A must for me after reading something dark when I need a lighthearted palette cleanser.

Entertaining as hell , hilarious and witty with a bit of mystery and a sprinkle of romance. If that sounds like a good time to you, I highly recommend getting started with book one in the series. Especially If you’re new to mystery and don’t know where to start!

The audiobooks are also 10/10 in my opinion. Angela Dawe is an excellent narrator. Forever favorite of mine! It’s like visiting old friends.

As always, I can’t wait to see where the next book takes us.

Thank you to the publisher for this ARC

This series is so fun! It’s one of my favorites because it’s hilarious and suspenseful and there’s romance and it’s just all around good! The audio for these books is phenomenal.

I love how much more we get to know Vero in this one. I also adore Nick and the romantic build between him and Finlay. The added piece of having Stephen around so much in this book made things fun, along with Finlay’s mom and her sister. The gang is all here and I loved it.

Oh and of course Javi too 🥰

Finlay and Vero (plus Nick) are back for another fun installment in the series. These two ladies sure have a knack for finding dead bodies. I honestly have no idea how these two are still alive or haven’t been caught yet. Or how Nick hasn’t yet figured them out.
Always fun, if unrealistic. Looks like there may be more to follow.
I’ve listened to all of them and I think the narrator is fantastic.

Contemporary Fiction

I'm invested in this series. I think the duo of Finlay and Vero are the modern-day crime fighting Lucy and Ethel, and I'm here for it!

Book four is a continuation of the story that has been created from book 1 of the series, so these novels should be read in order. The story begins with Finlay and Vero heading to Atlantic City to try to find Javi and recover the Aston Martin that played a large part in book 3. Finlay's ex-husband won't let her take the kids out of state and insists on tagging along as does Finlay's mother.

Once they arrive in Atlantic City, they are met by Finlay's sister Georgia, who is CIA, plus Georgia's girlfriend, a dirty cop named Chris and eventually Finlay's new boyfriend, Nick - who is also a cop. How are she and Vero going to be able to keep what they are doing a secret when all these people are around?

In typical F&V fashion - hilariously.

this was the first Finlay Donovan book that I read, I previously listened to them. I highly recommend the audiobook versions. The 3rd book in the series didn't engage me like the first 2, so I was concerned going into this novel. I needn't have worried as this was a delight. Many of Finlay's problems get solved here, so I'm wondering where Cosimano will take these characters next. Wherever it is - I'm along for the ride.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC of this book.

Thanks to NetGalley and Minotaur Books/St. Martin’s Press for a digital advance reader's copy. All comments and opinions are my own.

Hilarious and wacky – these novels keep getting more zany, madcap, and fun to read. This fourth in the series picks up right where #3 leaves off, and I found myself breathless from following Finlay and Vero’s antics as they try to rescue Vero’s long-time crush, find a stolen Astin Martin, keep themselves safe from a Russian mob boss and a short-tempered loan shark, and prevent Finlay’s hot cop boyfriend from discovering what’s really going on – he thinks this is a girls’ weekend. The novel takes place in the casinos and hotels of Atlantic City, including a day spa, a male strip club, and parking garages, with Finlay’s mother, ex-husband, and two young children along for the weekend – not realizing they’re part of the coverup for Finlay and Vero’s heroic hijinks.

The Marx Brothers-like plot is convoluted with dead bodies needing to be hidden, wild car chases, guns, unlimited cash, and everyone searching for the incriminating information on an elusive flash drive. It all comes together in the end, even for the loan shark’s little dog named Kevin Bacon (a running gag that’s actually funny).

In addition to the fast-paced mystery with a twisty plot and quirky characters, each novel in the series includes Finlay trying to write a romance novel while her publishing agent keeps following up to ensure deadlines are met.

I recommend starting with the very funny and clever first book “Finlay Donvan Is Killing It” as each novel picks up right where the other leaves off. But don’t worry if you forget some of the details of earlier books because author Cosimano expertly provides back up information that will fill in the gaps. If you’re looking for a humorous mom-com thriller/mystery with some romance, where you don’t have to think too much and where coincidences rule the day, this is the book and series for you.

Finlay and Vera are back at it again, but this time on a road trip to Atlantic City?! When I first heard about this change in location, I thought it was random but turned out to make the most sense given their mob involvement. And it’s the perfect seedy background for this duo’s escapades. As always, I enjoyed the overall adventurous tone of the book while Finlay and Vera’s haphazard Bonnie and Clyde story unfolded. The change in scenery kept it interesting, the character arcs were easy to follow and the writing was just….fun! The whole series has been such a fun read for me and I can’t wait to see how it ends!

Thank you to NetGalley + Minotaur Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I've had the pleasure of enjoying this series from the first book and it's a series I would recommend to anyone. Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice is probably my second favorite book in the series and I thought it was well written, well thought out, and had the charm I've come to expect from Elle Cosimano's writing.

I was really hoping this was the end of the series as I do think it might be getting a little repetitive, but it seems like we might get a fifth book — which, honestly, I will happily read. Elle has the ability to weave mystery and comedy together that makes her books a page turner.

This series is proof that I support women's rights AND wrongs and I'll continue to do so because there's something about Finlay and Vero that just makes you want to root for them, even when it involves committing crimes.

Thank you NetGalley and Minotaur Books for an eARC of Finaley Donovan Rolls the Dice.

This was yet another wild adventure into the unbelievable world of Finlay. We follow her and Vero around Atlantic City and somehow the entire cast also ends up there!! So let the craziness ensue including Finlay sleeping maybe 3 hours and eating 4 bites of food this entire book. I read these books for their fun and insane spirit and this one is no different. I love the fast pace, I love the dialogue, and I her her new boo Nick. Overall, this was a solid book four of this series. I wish it would change up a little bit next book it's getting a bit repetitive, so I'm excited to see what Elle does with this journey!

As always, there are some relatable mom life moments and some great reminders about giving yourself grace while balancing it all.
Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice Summary:
I loved being back with Finlay and Vero because these two never fail to make me laugh (and worry). This time, they are on the way to Atlantic City to win back money to pay off Vero’s debt and to find Javi. But as with everything with these two, nothing is as easy as they would hope it could be. Can these two figure out what is really happening and who is behind it before the police catch on?!
Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice Rating:
4.5 stars, fade to black/suggestion of spice
Moments in this one felt much more far fetched than events in the first three which is the only reason I’m giving it 4.5 stars instead of 5!
Favorite Quotes:
“You deserve opportunities, Finlay.”
“And you know what else you deserve? Someone who’ll be honest with you, even if you don’t want to hear it. Sometimes that means being with someone who’s going to make you face what you’re afraid of, because he’s planning on standing right behind you, covering your back.”
“I didn’t feel guilty for asking him to do his part. I just felt foolish for waiting this long to put my foot down.”

This one starts right where the last one left off. It reminds me of the Stephanie Plum series because the characters are always getting themselves into crazy situations they aren't prepared for. The humor is similar as well. Definitely start with the other books in the series if you haven't read them as the cast of characters is definitely already established.

I didn't love this one as some of the others because even though I know by now things are going to get a bit zany, getting all of the characters to AC went a step too far for me. It also seemed a bit more disjointed or something, probably because Finlay and Vero kept having to make up excuses for getting free of the other characters to move the plot forward. I still enjoyed it, don't get me wrong, but it was just not quite as good as the other 3 I've read.

Still, this is a really fun read with madcap plotlines that we've come to enjoy. There are plenty of complications and hilarious situations thrown in there. And there is character and relationship development which I enjoyed. Looking forward to the next book! I flipped between eye-reading and the audiobook and I really love this narrator. If you're an audiobook fan, definitely check it out!! Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC.

Finlay Donovan does it again. A great storyline with the fun suspense like the other Finlay books. When the fire between Finlay and Nick heats up, but the trouble of Finlay and Vero that needs to remain a secret. These books never get old & all of the characters continue to make a great book.
