I’m not sure I will ever tire of Finlay and her adventures! They always make sure to give her readers an entertaining ride! I am always laughing out loud with the sass and her quick remarks, especially when Vero is involved. They are some of my favorite duos and I always love to see what troubles they find themselves in. I love this series because it is always such a quick read and I always love the plot and all the characters. Overall, this is a series that I will definitely be continuing and can’t wait to see what troubles they get up to next time!
A wildly entertaining, fun ride!
Thanks St Martin’s press and NetGalley for ARC!
Synopsis –
Finlay and her nanny Vero find themselves in a bizarre road trip to Atlantic City, accompanied by Finlay’s mother, ex-husband Steven and her kids. This is only a façade underneath which, they are trying to rescue Vero’s childhood love Javi from the clutches of a dangerous loan shark while trying to locate a stolen car. On top of balancing her dysfunctional family, managing little kids and a budding love life, Finlay now has to take on the challenges of solving the mystery behind Javi’s kidnap.
Review –
Firstly, it is the humor that makes this book so delightful. As Finlay and Vero set out on their mission impossible, there are landmines waiting for them at every turn – but the accompanying situations are so hilarious that they instantly lighten the serious mood.
Oh how I loved Vero’s sass and quick thinking! And of course Finlay! What a kickass go-getter! It was as if this duo was simply invincible when teamed up. Nothing can stop them from getting their way. We all need a friend/nanny like Vero.
The ending packed a lot of action and drama with twists I didn’t envisage. I was happy just going along with the crazy roller coaster Finlay and Vero take us on! The cliffhanger is enough to make us all curious cats until the next one in the series is out! Elle Cosimano, I am a fan of your vivacious characterization!
Highly recommend if you’re already a fan of the series! Do no miss out on Finlay's latest shenanigans.
The Finlay Donovan series is so much fun that I can't wait for the next book as soon as I finish the current one. Finlay and Vero are going to Atlantic City in this book for a "girls weekend". That's the cover story, but in reality they are going to rescue Vero's boyfriend Javi, to make a deal with a loan shark, and locate a stolen car. Just your normal everyday getaway for Finlay and Vero! However, things get complicated when Finlay's ex-husband Steven insists on coming because of the kids and Finlay's mother invites herself along since it's a girls weekend.
Once they get checked in to their hotel with adjoining rooms, Finlay and Vero make an excuse to go out on their own. When they drop in on Marco to try to make a deal, they find him dead in his hotel room along with another man. Why does this continue to happen to Finlay and Vero? They need time to figure out what to do so they put both bodies in the bathtub and fill it with ice to slow the decomposition. They call the front desk and extend Marco's stay for 3 more days. They've got to have time to locate the stolen car and Javi. They also need to figure out who killed Marco and his partner?
Finlay's boyfriend, Nick, who is a detective shows up at her hotel with 3 other cops with him. Finlay's sister is one of them and she's brought her girlfriend. Nick has assigned Charlie to escort Finlay and Vero everywhere. How are they going to take care of everything with a cop watching them? Does Nick suspect anything? He says he was worried about Finlay and just wanted to make sure she was okay. Steven is a problem because he doesn't want to be left with the kids all the time while in Atlantic City. There are many laughs along the way in this one and awkward situations that you wonder how they'll get out of? I absolutely loved this book and rate it 5 stars. I'd like to thank NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an advanced copy of Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice in exchange for a fair review. #FinlayDonovanRollsTheDice #bookreview
I appreciate NetGalley giving me the opportunity to read this arc, however I will be withholding my honest rating and review because of the St. Martin’s Press boycott. SMP was given tangible goals to meet and have not addressed the situation.
I would love to not rate this at all but it’s required to select a star rating on NG so I selected one star.
Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice returns to the indestructible Finlay and Vero. I would happily read about Finlay and Vero's adventures forever! My favorite part of this action-packed book is Finlay and Vero's friendship and just seeing how far these two women are willing to go for each other. I loved how Finlay grew in confidence and forced her ex to take responsibility for their children. Vero also has fantastic character growth and even some romance!
Elle Cosimano’s writing is simply hilarious and I literally laughed out loud at points. The plot is so clever and comedic simultaneously. Even when I think I’ve got it figured out, Cosimano manages to keep me guessing. Readers who love sister-like friendships, hilarious writing, and action-packed comedy will love Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice. I hope to see Finlay and Vero on more adventures together!
Thank you to Elle Cosimano, Minotaur Books, and Netgalley for a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
For publisher: My review will be posted on Goodreads, Instagram, Storygraph, Amazon, Barnes & Noble etc.
The fourth install meant of the Finlay Donovan series...and this time we are going to Atlantic City, with everyone tagging along. I really enjoyed the first two books in this series. The 3rd wasn't bad, and this book I liked, but I didn't LOVE it. I think I need the story to feel more realistic than this one is. I mean how many dead bodies can you seriously be around and all the cops/FBI agents around you just go about their day? I do think if you loved the first three you'll enjoy this one. The author has the same comedy throughout. Make sure if you pick this book up you read the first 3. It is NOT a standalone.
My favorite part of this series is and will always be Nick. I need a book of just him, doing Nick things.
I listened to the book as I read along. I think the narrator does such an amazing job. I love all the different voices. The narrator makes the book more enjoyable.
Thank you to NetGalley, Macmillan Audio, and St. Martin's Press for the advanced copies of this book!
I’m such a fan of the Finlay Donovan series! They are always a fun and easy read. Are her hi-jinx a bit over the top and completely unbelievable?! Of course but that’s what makes them a fun read!
Thanks for the ARC Netgalley!
Happy pub week to the newest Finlay Donovan installment 🎲🚘🎰
This series is a consistent source of joy for me and I’m excited to report that book #4 is absolutely fantastic. (Thanks for my copy @minotaurbooks @netgalley!)
Instead of digging into the plot and the themes, I thought I’d answer a question I get whenever I post about these books, which is, “Will I like the Finlay Donovan books?”
Here are the points I make to help people decide whether or not to pick these up:
- The plot is mystery/thriller-adjacent, but the tone reads like a romcom.
- The writing is great! Elle Cosimano does a beautiful job of writing elegantly about topics that are very inelegant. While the plots are silly, she seamlessly fits in themes of independence and found family.
- In order to enjoy these books, you MUST be able to suspend disbelief. If you’re in it for a well-crafted mystery, this is not that.
- Despite being set in DC - and despite having a lot of characters that are cops - these books are decidedly a-political. I understand why, but at times they are SO a-political that it bothers me (see: my review for the third book).
No one has ever asked this, but here’s my book-by-book opinion:
#1: The best Finlay! An absolute delight! If you don’t like this one, don’t keep going.
#2: My least favorite Finlay. I enjoyed it but I don’t remember what happened in it, and I’ve read it twice lol
#3: Very good and fun and I loved how the plot and character development. But a warning that the entire book is about cops and training to be a cop — more info on this in my review, if you care to scroll back and find it.
#4: A great addition to this series. A lot of story lines get resolved, making me very curious to see where this series will go next (assuming there will be more!).
I always enjoy every Finlay Donovan story. After reading the four books in this series I believe that each one has the perfect amount of many different genres that blend together perfectly. There is romance, mystery/thriller, and contemporary women's fiction. Cosimano has created a relatable character out of Finlay Donovan with so many things in life that are realistic especially with being a mom. I am looking forward to the next chapter in Finaly's story especially with her romance growing with Nick and not knowing if the current conflicts will continue or a new problem is introduced.
Finlay and Vero are headed to Atlantic City! And - oh yeah - so is Finlay's mother, her ex husband Stephen, and their two kids. Experiencing roadblock after roadblock from family, friends, lovers, and bad guys, Finlay and Vero are doubling down on a good time. Finley Donovan Rolls the Dice picks up right at the end of book 3, so they should be read in order to get the entire story. The friendship of Finlay and Vero and all their crazy adventures are over the top - in a good way - as the humor lies in the ridiculous antics they get into. I have really enjoyed the Finlay Donovan books and this was no exception.
GIRLS TRIP!!!!!!!!!!!!
So Finn and Vero are at it again, book 3 left us with a cliffhanger of course and it left me with anxiety, this time we have the women off to a “girls trip” to Atlantic City (Vero gets into some trouble yall) with the kids, and of course some of our fave characters and not so fave character (Steven, the ex-husband) are tagging along. This book like all the others had me laughing from beginning to end, the things these women get into. The way they get out of things, the way they think????? I was ROLLIN’ with laughter. This suspense/romance/comedy read was everything I needed and more. I won’t be mad if another book is on the way…… I’m just saying….
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
I really liked the first three episodes of this series. They were very funny romps. Unfortunately, this fourth one feels completely dedicated to just get a book to press and make a buck. It really can’t be read as a standalone. Elle Cosimo forgot the first rule of series authors:. Good series writers always allow for readers just coming in, as well as followers who might possibly read other books during the year since the last one. Couple all that with a plot entirely stuffed with coincidence and contrived nonsense and I can safely say Cosimo has lost a reader.
Finlay and Vero on a road trip! Plus…. Basically everyone else.
This one picks up right where it left off with Finlay and Vero headed out to rescue Javi. This was definitely the silliest and most chaotic Finlay read yet. How much trouble can she get into without being caught?
My favorite part of this book was the relationship between Finlay and Vero. So much more than mom and the nanny, they are family.
Although all have been wild, this one felt a little too wild to me. I’m hoping book 4 will have some answers about what Steven is hiding!
Yet another cliffhanger, what is going on with Mrs. Haggerty?!
Finlay and Vero are back and this time even crazier than ever! In Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice, we find them in Atlantic City along with Finlay's mom, kids, her ex-husband, sister, hot cop Nick, and a whole slew of other suspects and characters. Just when I thought Finlay and Vero couldn't get into more trouble, Cosimano comes up with the 4th book in the series and proves me wrong! The antics these ladies get into had me laughing out loud throughout. The storyline was a bit far-fetched, but I think that's the fun of this series.
I love this series on audiobook, so I decided to listen to this one as well. Angela Dawe is a fantastic narrator and can do different voices and accents so well. She brings the humor to this story, but also the emotions in the moments Finlay isn't getting herself in trouble. There are a lot of characters in this book, and that was my biggest issue with the audiobook because it was hard to keep track of who was who. I would recommend listening to this book though.
This series is perfect for anyone who loves a good mystery, but not the seriousness of a thriller. It has humor and heart in it, and it was just what I needed when I was feeling a little bit of thriller overload!
Thank you St. Martin's Press and Macmillan Audio for advanced copies in exchange for my honest review.
In the fourth installment of the FInlay Donovan series, we meet our favorite dysfunctional heroes right where the third story left off. Cosimano mixes suspense, humor and tender moments together as we follow FInlay and Vero try to get out of the tangled web they have woven throughout the series. If you love these characters and are eager to see how this story progresses, then you will not be disappointed.
I will say that I am interested to see how long this story will go for. It seems like once things are wrapped up, something else pops up, and things get complicated and messy again. I would like to see some closure for some characters and their storylines, which is not to say that these characters go away, but I think four books in, all the characters don't seem to have much growth.
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Finlay Donovan is back in the fourth installment of Elle Cosimano's comedic mystery series and this time, she and Vero, her trusty nanny/partner-in-crime, are hitting the road to Atlantic City to try to rescue Vero's ex, Javi (you can get their backstory in the fun novella, 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗥𝘂𝗶𝘇 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗸). With Finlay's mother, ex-husband and kiddos along for the ride and her cop boyfriend and sister showing up unexpectedly, plenty of hysterical hijinks ensue.
My one quibble is that with three previous books and a novella's worth of story to remember, I wish we got a cheat sheet at the beginning of this one to remind us of all of the characters and their relationships. But it's a small thing, and while you can't jump into this series cold, if you were ever a fan of Finlay, it's a safe bet you'll enjoy 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗟𝗔𝗬 𝗗𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗩𝗔𝗡 𝗥𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗜𝗖𝗘.
Thanks to St. Martin's Press and Minotaur Books for the copy to review.
I always love a Finlay Donovan book and this one is no exception. I just love the trouble these main characters get into and how they get out of it. Just a quirky and fun read that never gets boring. Highly recommend the series. Definitely for fans of quirky female leads that are a hot mess, but somehow always come out on top.
This book started as unique and hilarious as always. Moreover we finally got our love stories! 🤌🏻 I loved the different setting in Atlantic City and the family dynamics (aka chaos). It was fast paced and the suspense was great because of all the unexpected accidents. Moreover, every character was unique and I could keep up with the story very well. However, I prefer the former volumes because of even bigger twists. Can’t wait to read the next volume!
Thanks to NetGalley and Minotaur books for this digital arc 🫶
This may be my second favorite book in the series so far, right behind the first one. I laughed a lot, but the storyline kept me on my toes. I absolutely love the writing style of Elle. I can’t wait for the next book. This book gets all 5 ⭐️! Go out and read it now 😊
Following the excitement at the civilian's police academy, Finlay and Vero need to get out of town. Under the guise of a girls' trip, they pack up the kids, Finlay's mom, and her ex-husband and head for Atlantic City. As in all Finlay Donovan books, there's been a murder (or two, or three), and Finlay and Vero have to figure out how to hide the details from Finlay's cop-boyfriend Nick, and make it clear that they were not the killers. It's a really fun addition to the series. As with Jumps the Gun, it's definitely best if read following the other three, but Elle Cosimano does a great job providing the reader with back-story without it feeling redundant. A hilarious action/mystery story.
Many thanks to St. Martin's Press, Minotaur Books and NetGalley for the advanced reader's copy in exchange for my honest review.
