This is book #4 in the series. It is one big continuing story. You really need to read books one through three first to understand this. It's fun and sooooo unrealistic, but who really cares?
This book picks right up where the last left off. Finlay and Vero say they are taking a girl's trip to Atlantic City, but they are really there to look for Vero's maybe boyfriend, Javi. It won't be easy, though, because her ex-husband, their two children and her mother all decide to go, too. Plus. Nick, Finlay's new boyfriend (and a cop) arrives with some other police. Soon, Finlay and Vero will have an even more difficult time.
There's so much going on and so many characters. I haven't read the first three books in so long that I forgot who some of the side characters even were. A character recap in the front of the book would be nice.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an advanced readers copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
BOOK REVIEW: FINLAY DONOVAN ROLLS THE DICE🎲🚗💰
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Road tripppp! Finlay is back and hitting the road with Vero, Steven, her mom, and the kids! They adventure to Atlantic City on a mission to rescue Javi (Vero’s childhood crush) and find a stolen car.
I love how fun, fast-paced, and entertaining the books in this series are! I was so hooked on #FinlayDonovanRollsTheDice and binged it in two days, alternating between audio and the physical copy, both of which were amazing! The narration on the audio was awesome!🙌🏼
Thank you so much to @minotaur for my gifted copy and audiobook via Netgalley.
I can’t wait for the next book in the series and might even do a re-read when the new one comes out as so much happens in each book! I’d also def recommend reading this series in order as each one builds on the previous books.
This book was one wild ride! I thoroughly enjoyed every exaggerated moment of it. It’s true that some of this was over the top and I gaped a few times at their shenanigans, but it all made sense for these two crazy women.
The book picks up where the previous one left off. Finlay and Vero must head to Atlantic City to save Javi. But they don’t go at it alone. Steven, Finlay’s mom and the kids join them and if that wasn't enough, Nick, Sam, Georgie, and Charlier end up there too - and Cam. Basically, Finlay and Vero must dodge the entire cast on this unhinged quest to get Javi and their car back.
The ending of the book was very satisfying, tying up many of the loose ends from the previous three books. However, we still don’t know what Steven has been up to and now a whole new mystery has surfaced. So, I believe this is not the end of Finlay and Vero’s crazed adventures. I, for one, am hoping for more Nick in the next one.
Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an advanced e-copy of this book. The opinions expressed are honest and my own.
Loved this Finlay! Last book dragged a bit for me but I enjoyed the pace of this installation. Can’t wait for what comes next- and I felt it tied back to book 3 a bit!
I flew through it and loved each page!
The fourth book picks up where the third book left off. I highly recommend reading the books in order or you’ll be very confused!
Finlay and Vero go on a girls trip to Atlantic City, New Jersey to get away and relax. Finn’s mom and ex-husband decide to tag along which complicates the situation.
Anything that will go wrong can go wrong as Finlay and Vero jump over multiple hurdles and have to sneak around so no one knows what they’re really doing at the casino.
Although this wasn’t my favorite in the series, I couldn’t put it down. I was kept on my toes wanting to know what was going to happen next. I thought I knew who did it but then there was a twist thrown in that had my jaw on the floor. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Finn and Vero!
Finlay and Vero continue to absolutely slay. I think I was ready for the series to wrap up by now, but I keep finding myself making my way back.
Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice is a wild and fast ride of a book! The fourth book in the Finlay Donovan series, this one focuses on Finlay and Vero’s road trip to Atlantic City. Picking up where the last book left off, Finlay and Vero head out to rescue Vero’s friend Javi and recover a stolen Aston Martin in order to clear their names and get Vero out of financial trouble. But this is easier said than done, since they also have to accomplish this without alerting the attention of Finlay’s ex Steven and Finlay’s mom, who join them on the trip, as well as the police and Detective Nick Anthony, Finlay’s love interest.
Every Finlay book is an adventure, and this one is no different. Finlay and Vero find themselves in increasingly difficult situations and have to rely on each other to escape. I love their friendship, and how they interact in this novel. I also love Nick and his growing relationship with Finlay, as well. This installment has more of the humor associated with the first book, and I found myself laughing out loud at some of the situations that occur. Finlay and Vero continue to be the luckiest duo ever when it comes to getting out of dangerous situations, but thankfully some of the problems they faced in the third book are resolved in this one.
There’s a new cliffhanger at the end of this one, setting up the fifth book of the series. I look forward to seeing what happens next for Finlay, Vero, and Nick.
Thank you to NetGalley and Minotaur Books for this advance copy, in exchange for my honest review.
Finlay Donovan always winds up finding herself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Dead bodies seem to always find her! This fourth book in this series doesn’t disappoint and continues right where book three leaves off. More mystery, more dodging the police (even though she’s dating a cop!), more family drama. Such a good continuation.
This was phenomenal! It had so much action and happiness for Finlay. I loved that she finally got her happy ending and exactly what she deserved. I’m really hoping there is going to be another book after this one because I really enjoyed this one.
I requested Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice, so that I could see for myself what all the bookstagram chatter is about. This is book #4 in author Elle Cosimano’s series of Finlay’s adventures. In this book, Finlay and Vero, her nanny, travel to Atlantic City to settle things with a dangerous loan shark and to try to find Vero’s kidnapped childhood love, Javi. Then things get complicated. Detective Nick and Finlay’s detective sister Gemma both show up and their shenanigans keep the story exciting right to the end.
What a crazy and fun ride as Finlay and Vero discover dead bodies, search for a missing Aston Martin, and hide a runaway teenager, all while working out of a luxury hotel. Is this whole story realistic? Absolutely not! But with the crazy characters and comical situations, every page is pure entertainment. I enjoyed the banter and humor. What a breath of fresh air.
Ugh I just love this series!! Finlay and Vero are my favorite duo and I love reading all about what kinda trouble they find themselves in. This story kept me intrigued and interested throughout the whole book & really hope there’s more books to come.
Finlay Donovan and her nanny/partner-in-crime Vero plan a girls weekend in Atlantic City as a cover, so they can rescue Vero's childhood crush Javi. hunt down a stolen car, and negotiate a deal with a dangerous loan shark. The only problem is, they have one mother, one ex-husband and two children in tow. It is going to be hard to accomplish what they need to without raising any suspicions. Within hours of arriving at their seedy casino hotel, it becomes clear their rescue mission is going to be a bust. Javi’s kidnapper, Marco, refuses to negotiate, demanding payment in full in exchange for Javi’s life. But that’s not all—he insists on knowing the whereabouts of his missing nephew, Ike, who mysteriously disappeared. Unable to confess what really happened to Ike, Finlay and Vero are forced to come up with a new plan: sleuth out the location of Javi and the Aston Martin, then steal them both back. But when they sneak into Marco's suite to search for clues to Javi's whereabouts, they find more than they bargained for—Marco's already dead. They don’t have a clue who murdered him, only that they themselves have a very convincing motive. Then four members of the police department unexpectedly show up in town, also looking for Ike—and after Finlay's night with hot cop Nick at the police academy, he’s a little too eager to keep her close to his side.
This is the fourth book in the Finlay Donovan series. These books are so much fun. I love the Finlay & Vero duo. They remind me so much of Stephanie and Lula in the Janet Evanovich series. There was non-stop action, crazy hi-jinks, several laugh-out-loud moments, a little romance, and a very satisfying conclusion. Oh, and I love the set-up for the next book. I can't wait!
I always have a good time with a Finley Donovan book and this was no exception. I also happen to be a fan of a road trip book and this had that trope covered. The situations are of course ridiculous and a lot over the top, but I was in for the ride and that did not bother me. I love that by the end of the book Finlay was starting to understand how smart and powerful she was, and as the fear dropped away things fell into place for her. All in all a great intro that wrapped up a lot of plot points just in time for a new mystery to begin.
Finlay and Vero on rag in find themselves in a bind with the mob and a loan shark. This book in this series was funny and we finally got to see Finlay and Nick together. I can’t wait to see what these two get into next.
I loved the newest book in the Finlay Donovan series and it renewed my excitement for all that is to come. I thought that the third book in the series felt like a "filler" and I was starting to wish the series would be wrapped up, but Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice was everything this series needed to keep things rolling. The whole story was thrilling, but the epilogue was the perfect ending and it already has me looking forward to next year's book.
Summary: Finlay and Vero are headed to Atlantic City to deal with a loan shark, find Javi and hunt for the missing Aston Martin. They try to use a "girl's weekend" as their cover, but it doesn't work and they end up traveling with Finlay's mom, ex-husband and the kids in tow. Within hours of arriving, they find themselves in their usual shenanigans which of course includes a couple dead bodies. Their mission becomes even tougher to carry about when Nick, Georgia and a couple other members of the PD show up looking for Ike. Will Finlay be forced to come clean or will she escape yet again?
Suspending disbelief is necessary when reading and listening to this series, but if you can do it, this series is a BLAST! I've loved Finlay and Vero's adventures and can't wait to see what they get up to next. Thanks Minotaur Books for sharing the early copy with me!
Thank you St. Martin's Press, Macmillan Audio, and Netgalley for a copy of this e-arc and audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
Oh to be back with Finlay and Vero! The first few books of this series are so fun. I think the storyline is a little too far-fetched now for me. This might be the last Finaly Donovan book that I read. I really do love the characters and it usually is such a lighthearted, fun read, but again the plot has just gone way too far with outlandish things happening.
The narrator, Angela Dawe, does a fantastic job. She can change her voice perfectly to fit each character. From Finlay to Vero to the kids, it was easy to distinguish who was talking without getting confused. I think any audiobook person might love listening instead of reading. It made me want to go back and listen to the first few books in the series because I loved reading them.
Overall, if you enjoy a lighthearted mystery and don't mind the unusual experiences, this book just might be for you. I will always recommend readers to at least try books 1 and 2, as they are my favorite.
I gave this 4.5 stars, rounded up. This was so much fun. Perhaps it is because I just had a death in the family but the silliness in this murder mystery was precisely what I loved and needed. There was no possibility that I was not going to love a book that had a dog named "Kevin Bacon." I will confess that I read the first but not the second or third, which I will go back and read when I can get my NetGalley shelf under control. In this romp, the protagonist, a writer and single mom head to Atlantic City to deal with a loan shark and save the crush of Finlay's nanny and partner in these (ad)ventures, while trying to pass this off as a girl's jaunt, but they end up accompanied by Finlay's two kids, ex husband and her mother, with Finlay's boyfriend, Nick, a police office getting involved and meanwhile, Finlay and Vero, the nanny, are trying to solve the mystery which involves the Russian mob, all without getting killed. Yes, it is silly but it had me laughing out loud and there is nothing wrong with that. The narrator was good, particularly adept at the voices of the Russian characters and older characters, and very well suited to this book.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's press for providing me with the opportunity to read this wonderful novel.
This is the 4th installment in the Finlay Donovan series and I've loved every single one of them. In this one, Finlay and Vero are back, but they're not alone. On a trip to Atlantic City to try to save Javi and a stolen car, it turns out that Finlay's ex and her mom (and therefore her children) think it would be a great time for a family vacation and they end up coming as well. Hilarity ensues. There's a lot of back and forth between hotels, dealing with loan sharks, stealing cars, and maybe even a strip show?
Finlay Donovan reminds me a lot of one of my other favorite series, Stephanie Plum. Neither woman really knows what they're doing, but somehow ends up doing a great job while making us laugh the entire time. I really hope #4 isn't the last one!
Finlay Donovan is back and picking up right where the last book ended! Finlay's troubles are far from over and when Javi is kidnapped she packs up and heads to Atlantic City. It's a road trip with Finlay, Vero, Finlay's mother, Steven and the kids, what could possibly go wrong?
Nice the hot cop shows up with Finlay's sister not long after they check into a hotel in Atlantic City, where Finlay and Vero have already encountered two dead bodies. Finlay is playing a dangerous game of enemies closing in on her, trying to hide the dead bodies and making sure that Nick doesn't find out about her involvement with the Russian mob. Time is running out and Finlay needs to find the killer while also rescuing Javi.
I loved this book so much! Elle Cosimano can write as many Finlay Donovan books as she wants and I'll read every single one. I love the antics that Finlay's family gets into while she's trying to fight mobsters and solve crimes, the side plots and adventures in these books always make me laugh. There was just enough romance to keep things with Nick and Finlay interesting but the romance isn't a focal point of the book. I will say I'm waiting for Nick to learn the truth at some point in the series but that hasn't happened yet. I also liked that Steven was more involved in this book and seems to be growing as a character. I don't want to give things away but there were some deaths in this book so I'm very curious to see where the next book in the series takes things as it did end on a cliff hanger. This was a 5 star read for me and I finished the entire book in a day!
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Our favorite mystery solving queens are back on the most bloody and mysterious road trip you have ever been on... but this time the E N T I R E gang accidentally follow Finlay and Vero on their murderous escapades.
Thank you MacMillan Audio, St. Martin's Press and Minotaur Books for the advanced copies of this book and audiobook.
This is my first time listening to a "Finlayverse" book and I have to say I would 100% recommend checking out the audiobook. Angela Dawe absolutely nails the performance of this cozy mystery. She truly completes the package when it comes to "Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice." The characters are excellently portrayed from accents to feeling the emotions through her voice, you can't get a better audiovisual experience. You can truly feel how anxious Finlay gets in some of the tenser moments and every time my heart is racing, thanks to Dawe's performance. Highly recommend!
This is a classic Finlay adventure. The situations that Elle Cosimano creates for the iconic pair of ladies just get better & even more hilarious. I love that we are on a road trip with the family. Yup, we get the entire family back together and it's truly a moment. *insert wheezing here*
If you're obsessed with this series like me, you're going to adore this next book. It has everything we have fallen in love with from the beginning. The best friend duo. The hilarious atypical situations. Lots of dead bodies. Sketchy deals. Running from the cops.
But this book... we get a whole lot more romance & I am here for it. Just you Finlay fans wait you're gonna L O V E it!
CAN WE TALK ABOUT THAT ENDING!?!?! *shocked face emoji here* If you've read this we need to chat theories ASAP! My direct messages are wide open.
"Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice" publishes Tuesday, March 3rd. Don't forget to preorder your copy from your favorite book store. You're not gonna wanna miss what Elle has cooked up for us this time.
