This was such an action packed book! Compared to the other books in the series I thought this one was really fun and it had tons and tons of action, basically from the first chapter! Such a fun instalment to the finlay donovan series and I think it has more of the classic humour and lightheartedness that fans of this series will enjoy! Thank you NetGalley and St Martin's Press for the eArc in exchange for my honest review!
Ahhh...Finlay and Vero are back and the hijinks and calamities continue in this brilliant series that really needs to be made into a TV series. I love the fast pace and the way they roll with the punches often making lemonade out of life's lemons. The hilarious addition of Finlay's ex and her mom coming on the road trip is pure gold and I enjoyed every moment. I listened to the audiobook and Angela Dawe does such a fantastic job with all of the characters that I felt like I listened to a wild adventure of a movie.
Elle Cosimano did it again! Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice is another fun-filled, suspenseful romp for Finlay and Vero, the kids and their supporting characters and this time it's all rolled up in a road trip. Such fun!
The situations Finlay and Vero get themselves into are mostly absurd but also somehow believable. There are dead bodies here and there, and a decent amount of sexual tension, the action is constant, and I was thoroughly entertained by both the storytelling and skill of the narrator of the audiobook. Either print or audio version will not disappoint.
Fans of Finlay and Vero, as well as newcomers to the series, will love this book.
Thank you, Macmillan Audio, Netgalley, and Elle Cosimano for the advanced copy.
Started physical and then switched to audio with this one!
Finlay Donovan Rolls The Dice 🎲 #4
Pub Date 📅: 3/5/24
Thank you @stmartinspress for the finished copy!
You must you must you must read the first 3 in the series first. There is not a ton of character development so you need to read them in chronological order to fully grasp the SOAP OPERA this series is!
These books are absolutely ridiculous and silly but I always come back for more! Vero you are my HERO 🫶🏼
If you are in a reading slump definitely pick up this series they are great to listen to too! Thank you @netgalley & @macmillan.audio for my #ACL
Longer review on #Youtube 🔗 in bio!
Finlay is back, and this time she finds herself, Vero, her kids, her mom, and her ex in a car headed to Atlantic City to try to get Javi back.
This one wraps up what I feel like is the first big arc for Finlay! This might be my favorite in the series so far in terms of humor and just overall shenanigans in the plot. I am excited to see where things go left because it leaves on an interesting cliffhanger. Can’t wait to see where Finlay’s adventures take her next!
I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I was so excited for this 4th installment detailing the adventures of Fiinlay & Vero- I piggy backed between the digital & audio versions of this one! Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice.... boy did she ever! Disguised as a girls' weekend in Atlantic City, Finlay & Vero set out to rescue Vero's childhood friend & crush Javi. To add to the craziness & chaos, Finlay & Vero are accompanied by Finlay's mother, ex-husband Stephen, & 2 precious children. This book has it all- adventure, suspense, an Atlantic city bookie, and throw even a side of the Russian mob. This book is light, fun, entertaining & an easy read. The narrator on the audio was spectacular & lends even more to the story. I would describe this as a cozy mystery with equal parts of humor & craziness. As in all of their adventures, Finlay & Vero compliment each other's personalities extremely well and make for quite the duo. While this could be read as s stand alone, I can't imagine anyone would want to - all of the installments of this series are a fast-paced, must read. Thank you @netgalley @stmartinspress & @macmillanaudio for the digital & audiobook ARC of this title.
This is book 4 following the crazy shenanigans of Finlay and Vero. If you have yet to read this series, you are missing out! Constant excitement, dead bodies, mobs, gambling, stolen car, shootings... absolutely unbelievable but still so good! This one gives the Hangover vibes and Miss Congeniality 2 as they venture to Atlantic City to find Vero's kidnapped childhood friend.
To me, this series is a great 'palette cleanser'. Great for reading or listening after a deep emotional read. A whole lot of nonsense that just works and is highly entertaining.
I can't wait for the next in the series. I have already started speculating what is going to happen in the next book.
Thank you, @netgalley, @stmartinspress, & @macmillan.audio for an audio & Ecopy.
I have really been enjoying this series as it’s very fun and entertaining. I don’t know how Finlay and Vero deal with all that they do, because I would get anxiety with all the secrets and sneaking around. But, this fourth installment was a little lackluster.
I have always loved Vero and Finlay’s relationship and that still holds true in this book. They compliment each other and have funny moments together. I did like that we got to see more with Vero & Javi plus I like Nick and Finlay together. What I found lacking in this one was there was just too much going on and so many characters. Everyone was there and it seemed so chaotic. While I know it’s fiction, it just seemed a little too crazy this time around. I am still going to keep reading the next book, because the ending kind of drew me back in, but I just hope that we don’t get too much repetition and stale with the plot.
If you’re looking for something light, fun, and entertaining, pick up this series. I would recommend starting with book 1, because you would be a little lost if you went straight to this one.
Lucy and Ethel go the Atlantic City. Oops, sorry, make that Finlay and Vero go the Atlantic City. Please pardon my mistake, but the slap stick and silly situations confused me for a moment. Finlay and Vero have gotten into some really bad situations in the past books and if you haven't read any of those, I highly recommend that you don't start with this one. The problems for our duo seem to compound by the hour to the point that it was easy to lose track of what is going on. This is a pure escape read and I loved it. Finley has a knack for getting into and out of really, really nasty situations, with the help of Vero, her nanny/bookkeeper/bestie/partner in crime. This time around the situation is compounded when Finlay's problems with the Russian mob collide with Vero's problems with an Atlantic City bookie. Oh, and everyone is there to get in the way. If you like your cozy mystery with a side of zany, this book is for you.
With the guise of a girl's weekend in Atlantic City, Finlay and Vero are out to rescue Vero's boyfriend, Javi, from Marco the loan shark who kidnapped him and stole Finlay's very expensive Aston-Martin, a "gift" from a Russian mobster that Finley really wants to give back. Easy-peasy, right?
Not. Then Finlay's mom, her ex, her kids, sister and sister's new squeeze, Nick and other law enforcement types tag along and make the situation really, really complicated. But Finlay and Vero are on a mission and just have to figure out how to ditch the unwelcome company, find Javi and the car and satisfy Marco, the bookie, and that's the easy part. Things get a lot more complicated from that basic mission and in the end, Finlay makes a gamble and it's all or nothing, but that just seems to be the way Finlay and Vero roll.
My thanks to the Publisher, and Author, for providing a complimentary digital Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this novel via NetGalley. This is my fair, honest and personal review. All opinions are mine alone and were not biased in any way.
Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice by Elle Cosimano picks up right where Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun Book #3 leaves off. Let the shenanigans begin!
Under the guise of a girls' weekend, Finlay and Vero, straight out of their Citizen's Police Academy, are headed to Atlantic City. Someone has kidnapped Javi and the ladies must rescue him and bring the ransom.
Suddenly, it's not just those two. Finlay's mother, ex-husband Stephen, and their two adorable kids insist on tagging along. Finlay and Vera's adventure is beginning with all odds against them. Including, convincing Finlay's 'hot cop' boyfriend that they are only on a quick getaway!!!
Experiencing roadblocks from family, friends, lovers, and bad guys, Finlay and Vero double down with every wild card they can. The stakes are high for these two female super sleuths...it's an incredibly fun book with the usual Finlay and Vero banter and humor. With each sentence, I can hear Angela Dawe's voice (narrator for the Finlay Donovan series audiobooks). I'll be getting the Audiobook too!!!
Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice has an almost perfect ending with a transition into the next book.
I'll be reading and listening to that one too!!!
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher, St. Martin's Press, for an advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review.
Finlay and Vero head to Atlantic City, where their "getaway" acts as a cover for a deal with a loan shark, a search for a stolen car, and the saving of Vero’s crush, Javi. And things become extra complicated when Finlay's ex, her mother, and the rest of the gang accompany them.
There, the plan falls apart fast, and they unexpectedly find themselves as potential suspects in a murder.
This was the perfect time in the series to freshen things up by transporting the characters to a new location, and Atlantic City was the perfect place for both mayhem and crime.
It has all the same humor and heart you expect from Finlay and Vero in investigating the seedy underworld of criminal minds, and fans of the series are also likely to be both pleased and intrigued by the ending.
This is such a fun read. Finlay does it again.....finds herself in situations that she gets herself out of in very clever ways. Just a stay at home mom who writes romance thrillers, these situations end up being good research for her books.
This one takes us to Atlantic City, where Finlay searches for a car, a thumb drive, and Vero's friend, Javi. This should be a perfect girls' weekend until Steven, the kids, and Finlay's mom tags along. Not to mention Detective Nick Anthony so he can keep an eye on Finlay while still searching for Felicks Zhirov.
I love how Elle can write Finlay into the most stressful situations yet keep it light and funny.
Finlay and Vero do it again!
I absolutely adore Finlay...and Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice did not disappoint! I go into these cozy mysteries expecting to laugh and not be too serious, and this one gave exactly that! There were moments when I laughed out loud. Finlay and Vero take on Atlantic City and the twists kept coming. Like previous books, I imagined many of these scenes being played out on television or in a movie.
The quick punch lines were fun and witty. I did enjoy seeing the relationship between Finlay and Nick evolve. The funniest had to be Javi and Vero...no spoilers here, but I think I laughed the whole last 15 minutes of the book.
Expect there to another book or two in the series...there was a cliffhanger and I can't wait to see what adventures Finlay and Vero go on next.
I liked the first installment of this series, Finlay Donovan is Killing It, and although i haven't read the second or third book in the series, I wanted to read this one. I thought the debut was clever and so different that I enjoyed it more than I expected.
Thank you Netgalley, Minotaur Books and St. Martin’s Press for my advanced readers copy, but this one wasn't a hit for me.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with the writing or the execution of the story, it was simply too much for me. The action, while I know its fiction, was far-fetched, and too much is happening that it made me confused at times. I got through it because it's super easy to read and very entertaining, but this will unfortunately be my last book in this series.
Many thanks to my friends at @minotaur_books and @macmillan.audio for the #gifted copies of this book.
Have you ever heard a story that’s SO outlandish that it has to be based in truth?
There is no end to the antics that Finlay and Vero get in. And at this point, I’m starting to be suspect… exactly WHAT does Cosimano do on the side?! 🤣
Book #4 in the series picks up right where we left off in Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun, only now Finlay and Vero are heading on vacation with the entire secondary cast in tow. Watch out Atlantic City!
Like each installment before, this book is a pure serotonin boost. It’s laugh out loud funny with a wild plotline. There’s no shortage of adventure and the buffoonery is at peek outrageousness. This is another easy binge full of fun.
With the other books ending on a cliffhanger, I was surprised to find this one so tidied up. And that leaves me to wonder: are there more hijinks from Finlay and Vero ahead? But then again, that last whirl of the police siren begs to be explored.
Everyone needs a dose of fun. And to me, there’s not much that is as fun as an escapade with Finlay and Vero.
If you haven’t met this duo yet, start at the beginning. This series is best enjoyed in order as they build off of each other.
🎧 At this point, Angela Dawe IS the voice of Finlay Donovan. Even reading the print copy, it’s Dawe’s distinct portrayal that I hear. Her narration is full of snark, and she makes the most unbelievable scenes read like reality. But the one thing I haven’t figured out: how every time Finlay does an eye roll (which is pretty often), I can HEAR it in Dawe’s voice.
Usually I listen to the amazing narrator of this series and laugh out loud, but this time I read the fourth installment. Elle Cosimano is a fantastic plotter, and just when you think things can't get worse, of course they do. I always enjoy listening to the wild and crazy life of Finlay Donovan and her faithful sidekick Vero, and this time they take off for Atlantic City to save Vero's boyfriend, Javi, who has been abducted by Marco the loan shark. Throw in Finlay's two small children, her mother, her ex-husband, Steven, and her new hot cop boyfriend, Nick, and she has so many plates to balance it looks like a catastrophe for sure. How can she keep all the principals apart, totally clueless, rescue Javi, and make sure the past stays buried? It's a rollicking roller coaster of laughs and excitement. Please, keep these books coming. Thank you NetGalley and Minotaur books for letting me read this book in advance for an honest review.
I’m not even sure I can summarize the plot to Finlay Donovan’s 4th installment and I think this is my issue with this book. I am one to read a series in linear order but I wanted to try this series and it seemed like a fun one to try since it was all over bookstagram.
Unfortunately this is not a series you can jump into the middle of, you need to start with 1 and then go forward. The reason for this is the author assumes you have been with Finlay since the beginning and you don’t need the background. I find this to be a flaw that could have easily been remedied and it alienates new readers (like me).
This seems to be a cute, fun light series that I may have really enjoyed but since I spent much of the book confused and playing catch up (I never caught up) - I didn’t enjoy this half as much as I could have and therefore I can’t give this book as high a rating as I think I would have if I understood the story. There should almost be a warning at the start not to read this if you haven’t read the others! Bummer for me, it may be a great read for those who have been with Finlay the whole time.
The narrator was really good and I enjoyed listening while waiting to board my plane and it was definitely a fun listen while waiting to take off and during turbulence!
3.25 stars (could have been higher because I see the appeal)
Thank you to NetGalley, Minotaur and MacMillan Audio for the ARC to review
4.5 stars
I loved the change in location, how quickly things happened and the ending was fabulous!!
Huge thanks to NetGalley, St Martin's Press &
MacMillan Audio for advance copies in exchange for an honest review!
Read This Book If…a hot mess of a mom with murder on the mind sounds a little too relatable.
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫/5
Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice
Genre: mystery
Series: Finlay Donovan # 4
Spice Level: 1/5🌶, closed door
Setting: Atlantic City, NJ
POV: single, 1st person, past tense
My Thoughts: This series continues to be a fun ride! I think it could have been tied up in three books, but I’ll stick with it to see what happens to Finlay and Vero! I wish there’d been a little more mystery to this one, instead of lots of sneaking around. But overall, this was a good read!
Memorable Quote: “Stop worrying about the cards you’ve been dealt. As long as you don’t give anything away, no one else can see your shitty cards but you. Fake it till you make it, Finn.”
Solid 4.5 stars! I felt like this book was right on par with the other Finlay Donovan books. Loved it! I have really enjoyed getting to know all of the characters and that they always end up in funny (not always believable, but funny) predicaments. I wish there had been more about her writing in the book, but it was a fun story.
