I rounded up from 3.5.
The latest Finlay Donovan installment is a lot. More and more threads are being added to the plot and cast of characters. Elle Cosimano is inches away from jumping the shark but manages to reign it in just enough. Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice has all the things we love about our accidental mafia adjacent mama: humor, genuine friendship with Vero (#goals), highly relatable parenting moments (albeit in entirely unrelatable situations), high risk shenanigans, plus the Hot Detective. That said, the Finlay series has lost a lot of the charm of the first and second books. While it's infinitely better than the third book, the story is getting to hectic and too convoluted.
ARC provided, opinion 100% mine- thank you NetGalley.
Another brilliant story and shenanigans with Finlay and Vero. I could not put it down and the series gets better overtime. I enjoyed getting to be in a new setting with the characters and more high stakes and laughs.
Another insanely entertaining Finlay Donovan story — so many laugh-out-loud moments (like the Chubbies scene…ARE YOU KIDDING?! 😂)
The hot mess that is Finlay Donovan is way too relatable 🤣 her story as a whole is outrageous and beyond ridiculous in every single best way possible.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.75
I love this series. Findlay Donovan is the new Stephanie Plum. At some point I will become annoyed with Vero and Finlay's hijinks but for now I'll keep recommending this series to Evanovich fans.
Book 4 is as much fun as the others with Vero and Finlay ending up in some dangerous situations that only those two can navigate their way out of with their signature wit, humor, and bravado.
There's a lot going on in this story as they try to wrap up Vero's issues with a loan shark, finding a stolen car, rescuing Javi, wrangling the kids, keeping Steven's tantrums in check, and getting to the heart of Finlay's mom wanting to tag along. Oh, and keeping Nick "the hot cop" from figuring out what she's doing all day. Even Sylvia the Agent makes an appearance!
Best lines go to Vero:
"There's no way you're taking him out with Farberware, Finn. You need Le Creuset for that."
"I might be old, but it wasn't that hard." "I hear they make medications for that.
Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Finlay Donovan did it again. I always really enjoy these stories and these characters. Such a fun read!
4.5 stars rounded up. The story gets right into the action, picking up immediately after the conclusion of the previous book. It's a road trip to Atlantic City with the whole family, Finlay's mom and ex husband included. I was constantly cracking up, this book had all the usual shenanigans. We also get a lot more of Finlay and Nick together, which I absolutely loved. Series' are hard for me because I tend to forget everything by the time the next one comes out. That is not the case with this series. As soon as I started, I knew immediately what was going on. These books are so fun, fast pace, and hard to forget. I thought the series was wrapping up very nicely and then the epilogue happened. It looks like this may not be the last we see of Finlay Donovan.
Thank you to NetGalley and Minotaur Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
While I delighted in the sheer fun of the first Finley Donovan, and happily breezed through the second, by the end of third installment, I was craving something fresh and less predictable. The fourth book does not give you that.
If you are a fan of the series looking for more of the same, you will not be disappointed. The antics and quips persist, but I have to admit that, by book four, they feel tired and drawn out. The characters and their situations, as well as their reactions to these situations are increasingly silly, bordering on ridiculous.
With that said, I still really enjoyed this series as a whole! Thank you Net Galley and St. Martin’s Press for an advanced copy of this ebook.
Thank you #netgalley and #st.martinspress for this early copy of Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice. This is my favorite Finlay Donovan book since the first novel! It was so fun and fast paced. I love the banter between the characters and the sticky situation Vero and Finlay keep getting themselves in and out of. The last novel had me a bit worried about the progression of the series and whether or not I would remain invested but this one hauled me right back in! These books are so fun!
I would like to thank NetGalley and Minotaur Books for providing me with an advance e-galley of this book in exchange for an honest review. Look for it in your local and online bookstores and libraries on March 5, 2024.
I always love catching up with Finlay and Vero and while these books are definitely entertaining, this one was not my favorite. I buddy read this one with a friend and more than once I was messaging her about how over the top this was and I know I have some strong feelings when I am starting to feel sorry for Steven, Finlay’s jerk of an ex-husband!
While the action was non-stop, I think that may have been part of the problem – there was too much going on and it was hard to keep up. I do like the relationship between Nick and Finlay but felt bad for Nick as he was either being lied to or ignored for most of the storyline.
Finlay and Vero remind me a lot of Lucy and Ethel – fun to watch but always getting into some type of trouble. Will I read the next book – probably as I am always curious as to how the series will end.
These books never fail to make me laugh. I just love all of the banter between the characters and the predicaments that Finlay and Vero find themselves in are just over the top hilarious. In this fourth installment the duo take a road trip to Atlantic City with children, ex husband and mother in tow, only to be joined by all of our favorite cops. Shenanigans shortly ensue and the bodies start to pile up as Finlay and Vero hunt down kidnappers and loan sharks.
Finlay continues to be a bit of a hot mess, and also makes many bad decisions that still somehow seems to keep her and Vero one step ahead of the russian mafia and the police. But she is showing a bit of growth in this one, as she at least starts to understand her strengths and uses them to her advantage. Her greatest strength is her friendship with Vero. Vero is the best friend everyone wants to have because she always has your back, and a shovel to help bury the body. I love Vero and her tenacity and sarcastic wit are always a delight to read.
All of the secondary characters that you have learned to love and hate, join Finlay and Vero on their road trip. Nick is there to of course bring some spicy sex to the story. Steven is also on the scene and at times I almost felt sorry for him because he was so out of his element. But then I remind myself how he is such a schmuck and it is okay to hate him again. We also get to see a lot more of Finlay’s mom, who was a great addition to the team. I just loved her! And a special shout out to Kevin Bacon, a weiner dog, whose name gives us such comedic relief that you have to love him.
The action is fast paced and never lets up from the first page. I must say the the plot of this one left me a little bit disappointed. Some of the decisions made by Finlay and Vero were so bad that it just made it real hard to suspend disbelief and sort of took me out of the story abit. But I did appreciate that most of the storylines from the previous books were neatly tied up by the end. But don’t worry, I am pretty sure there will be a fifth book after reading the epilogue!
This was a perfect addition to the series. It was full of all of the dead bodies, shenanigans, and witty banter that expect from these books. If you are looking for a fun cozy mystery thriller with some romance to get you through the long cold winter nights, than look no further than this series. It has it all.
A worthy entry to the series. Finlay and Vero head to Atlantic City to retrieve Javi, but the mission is complicated by her ex-husband and mother tagging along on the trip, not to mention the FBI and FCPD showing up. And would it even be a Finlay Donovan book if she didn't stumble across a dead body she could easily be arrested for murdering? Much like the Stephanie Plum series, they get a little formulaic, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't love the formula. And the cliffhanger ending has me excited for the next entry.
While, I will not be getting this the HS library (because bleh to banned books and "inappropriate" content). I digress.
I LOVE FINLAY. and hot cop (Hello Henry Cavill! No? Just me?? Surely not.....). and Vero. and Javi. and I even found a little (tiny, tiny) amount of love for Steven.
I want to read her actual books (I know, I know this is basically her story but I love it okay?).
I feel like we get a lot of closure and endings.
I NEED TO KNOW WHO/WHAT/WHY/HOW IS HAPPENING WITH MRS. HAGGERTY. like yesterday. please.
*I keep picturing Mrs. Haggerty as Mrs. Figg. I have no idea why but yeah, there's that.
Anyways. Laugh and live and laugh more with Finlay and her crew. Go ahead, you won't regret it.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for a chance to read and review.
What a hoot! Cosimano does not disappoint in her 4th Finlay adventure. Finlay and Vero in Atlantic City? You can be sure that many shenanigans ensue. Throw in an ex-husband, hot cop boyfriend, two kids, Finlay’s mother, plus her law enforcement sister with several other officers in tow… Finlay’s floor at the shady Royal Flush hotel gets a bit too crowded. Finlay and Vero have quite the time in their mission to rescue Javi. Full of the usual slap stick, laugh out loud moments we’ve come to expect from Finlay and Vero. Suspend your belief and enjoy the ride.
Special thanks to St. Martin’s Press, Minotaur Books for the digital ARC via NetGalley. Pub date March 5, 2024.
Finlay and Vero are back, and after their time at the citizen’s police academy, they are now headed to Atlantic City in hope of saving Vero’s missing friend Javi. However, Finlay’s ex, Steven, her mother, and children are all along for the ride, so the crew heads to AC. Upon arrival, they find Javi’s kidnapper, Marco, already dead, and it’s a race against the clock to find Javi, the missing Aston Martin, and avoid Nick and his fellow police officers {who have also shown up in Atlantic City!}
This fourth installment of the Finlay Donovan series delivers plenty of Finlay/Vero shenanigans, dead bodies, and hilarious moments. I love that this book took us to Atlantic City, which made for a super fun setting. I definitely needed to refresh my memory on events from the first three books since I’ve read them each a year apart right around their publishing dates, but the author does a good job making you not feel completely lost. The book was fast-paced, and reminded me a bit of The Hangover with the casino-town setting, and all the ridiculous, outrageous, and laugh-out-loud occurrences. You definitely need to read the four books in order, so jump into this series NOW if you haven’t already!
Thank you to Minotaur Books and NetGalley for my gifted e-ARC!
I absolutely LOVE the Finlay Donovan Series!! I have read all three books so when I was able to read this one I was so excited!! . She had me laughing out loud so many times and I couldn't stop reading because she just made me feel like I was there with all the characters. Finlay is such a fun character on her own but add Vero in the mix and OMG those two! This book had so many WTH moments and I loved it! Finlay and Vero will take you and such a fun and enjoyable ride. I HIGHLY recommend this book and this series. Once you start you can't stop!!! Enjoy!
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press, Minotaur Books for allowing me to read this ARC in advance for my honest opinion.
I think this was the final book in the series. I have LOVED this series. It's so much fun, with such humor and crazy antics. The series starts with Finlay, an author, being overheard at a coffee shop talking to her agent about her latest suspense book, being mistaken for a contract killer. What has evolved is a story filled with a ton of craziness as Finlay and her nanny try to deal with the repercussions of the last 3 books. It almost has a Lucy/Ethel vibe in terms of the antics they get involved with. I really enjoyed this ending to the series but there was so much going on, I had a hard time keeping everything straight at first. It had been a while since I read the third book so maybe I should have reread the series for a refresher.
If you are looking for a cozy mystery with a lot of fun, I definitely recommend this book and this series. You could potentially read this as a stand alone because the author does try to recap things but the whole series is so good and you will feel less lost by reading the entire series first.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy.
This was a suspenseful and hilarious journey with Finlay and Vero in Atlantic City. The duo's comedic shenanigans, crazy ideas, and over-the-top actions kept me laughing, while Elle Cosimano masterfully weaves in unexpected family drama and more. Angela Dawe's narration enhances the experience, bringing Finlay and Vero to life with impeccable tones and inflections. Together, Cosimano's engaging storytelling and Dawe's skillful narration make this audiobook a must-listen for those craving a thrilling and humorous ride. I was so sad when the book ended. I hope there will be more in this series. I need more Finlay and Vero shenanigans.
3.5 rounded up
In the fourth instalment of the Finlay Donovan series, Finlay and Vero are at it again! This time with her mom, ex-husband, and kids in tow. They head to Atlantic City in search of Vero's childhood love Javi, and the weekend quickly turns into chaos and crime, in true Finlay fashion. Finlay and Vero are queens of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I feel like these books just get crazier and crazier the further through the series we get. What more can possibly happen to these two?! Overall, this was an enjoyable read, and had me giggling from time to time.
