Road trip to Atlantic City! Finlay and Vero set out on a trip to try and track down Javi (Vero's crush). Throw in two kids, a mother, and an ex-husband. What could go wrong? Well, if you're Finlay, you already know the answer to that!
I have been a big fan of Finlay and Vero's. I love how they will go to bat for each other. There is always a sense of comedy that comes with these two. This is a book that you can just pick up and read, although I would highly recommend reading the first 3 Finlay books. While I enjoyed Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice, I liked the first two better.
Thank you to NetGalley and Minotaur Books for the opportunity to read Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice.
I’m not going to say much about Finlay’s latest adventures. I find half the fun is in not knowing where the next book will lead her. I will say this one picks up shortly after the last book ended. The usual how will Finlay get out of this latest predicament, good development of all the characters I have come to love, and oh an ending that I’m sure sets up the next book. Just a fun series but one where I definitely suggest reading the books in order. It was good to spend a little more time with Finlay.
Thank you Netgalley for an early copy of this!! This was one of my my most anticipated reads, I love the Finlay Donovan series. The pacing was fast so it makes for quick read! There were SO MANY hijinks in this book, they're a little far-fetched at times but it's so fun! The best parts of this story were the characters and the banter. Like I mentioned before, Finlay & Vero's friendship is so remincesnt of the show Good Girls. I’m always kept on my toes and we’re only on book 4 out of 7? The cliffhanger in this one was CRAZY so I can't wait for the next one!!
My first read by this author and apparently in the middle of a series too! I'm always doing that.
Wow! What a fun and cute read! I've never grinned or laughed so hard!
I didn't want this book to end. It was so very good!
I loved the backdrop for this little adventure.
You just never know what awaits you around the corner.
I like Finlay Donavan she seems to have all the adventures that a person could want or need. She's a pretty cool character.
I'm not going to say any more cause I don't want to give it away but it looks like I'll need to go back and read the othe others in this series as this is book 4.
5 stars for making me have fun and laugh with this cool story. I highly recommend it.
My thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. This was such a fun read and continuation of the story. I really enjoyed watching everyone come together. There was plenty of humor, snarky banter, and suspense. The end wrapped up so nicely I was worried this was the end of the series, but then the epilogue renewed my hopes.
I know I can't go into super detail - don't want to give anything away. But this was a blast! There were several moments I gasped out loud because I genuinely wasn't sure how Vero and Finlay would get out of their ongoing problems. This was so fun, and I loved being able to be with the whole crew. I can't wait for book 5 because that last sentence blew my mind!
This one does not disappoint! This is such an exciting mystery. I’m hooked from the first page. What’s even more astonishing is that this is the fourth book in the series and it is just as fun and exciting as the rest. I cannot wait for book number 5!
It’s a fun read. Everything that happens is more outlandish than what previously happened but that’s the fun of it. These really remind me of the early books in the Stephanie Plum Series.
Is this my favorite Finn book?! I think it might be! Fin is such a fun and relatable (minus the dead people) character. And her relationship with Vero is BEAUTIFUL. #girlgang. I loved all of the additional character development in this one. We got to see more of Georgia and Sam, more of Finn’s mom (thank you thank you for the bit about Finn’s mom acknowledging the friendship between Finn and Vero. I didn’t know I needed that), JAVI and NICK. And even a little Joey. There are a few key pieces that I want to come together before Finlay Donovan stops chasing bad guys, and I hope that comes soon because the anticipation is almost too much to handle. Nonetheless, this was an epic installment in the series. Bravo!
This is my favorite yet—rollicky, seat-of-your-pants action and suspense !! #finlaydonovanrollsthedice is great fun and even if you haven’t read the others you could read this and be ok-but do yourself a favor and read them all!!
Thanks to #netgalley and #minotaurbooks for this arc to read and review before publication. All opinions are my own.
I’ve read all of the books in the Finlay Donovan series and feel very invested in Vero and Finlay’s story at this point. The first book in the series is far and away the strongest book, but I will keep reading them as long as Cosimano publishes them.
Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice doesn’t feel as though it can stand on its own without the other books in the series. There is some background about events in previous books, but little context is given in most instances. There are references to the first murder Finlay and Vero find themselves wrapped up in, but there is no explanation provided. As someone who has read all four books, that was fine, but it might have been harder for those who hadn’t read them all fairly recently.
With that said, this book does flow neatly from the previous one. It is clear the action of this book immediately follows the action of Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun. There are references to the fire at the police station that ends the previous book being very recent. This helps orient the reader make connection between the action of each book. It also seems like the epilogue of Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice sets up the fifth book of the series.
I wanted to be invested in Javi and Vero’s story, but the readers don’t really see enough of them together to make that feel possible. Of course, the reader understands that Javi means a lot to Vero, but there isn’t a lot of foundation provided. It makes it so Javi’s extended confession of love doesn’t pack the presumably intended punch.
The strongest relationship in the books remains Finlay and Vero’s. It’s clear they will do anything for one another (including clearing up massive debt and rescuing a kidnapped boyfriend), and their bond really does seem unbreakable. I am a sucker for a strong and supportive female friendship, and this is what keeps me returning to this series.
While I do believe the first book in the series is the strongest, I will absolutely continue to follow the adventures of Finlay and Vero as long as Cosimano is telling their story.
THANK YOU, NetGalley- I've never been so excited for an ARC, mostly because I'm just such a fan of this series!
It's definitely cheesy and unrealistic, but it's also just so dang fun and entertaining.
Another really great addition to the series, and I cannot wait to see where Finlay does next!
This stressed me out. Like, bad. Finlay and Vero are running around Atlantic City, stashing bodies left and right, getting tangled up in all kinds of crazy stuff, never sleeping, barely saying hi to the family they dragged out here... Like, what are all these other characters doing? Do they go into stasis and just chill at the hotel room while the main characters have adventures?
Okay okay, let's pretend that yes, everyone else in the book does go into stasis when off-page and it's fine. Here we have another zany installment of Finlay and Vero getting into a HUGE amount of trouble that would most certainly put them behind bars forever. And of course, they're mixed up in all kinds of cop stuff. Yipes!
I adore Vero and Javi. Their little thing was my favorite part of this, by far. Second only to Finaly putting Steven in his place. You tell him, Finn!
I'm going to keep going with this high-octane/madcap series (which seems to be moving faster and faster) but this one's not a re-read for me. Too stressful!
Thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Finlay and Vera set out on a trip to Atlantic City to recover both the Aston Martin and Javi. It won’t just be those two, however. Steven, the kids, and Finlay’s mom are tagging along. They have to find a way to pay back Marco for Vero’s debt because he is demanding payment in full. And then they discover he has been murder.ed….
These two are constantly getting themselves into and out of extreme situations while the cops are breathing over their shoulders. And I love it! I highly recommend this for a fun packed hilarious read. The cliffhanger seems to lead into another book with another character have a bigger focus.
Many thanks to Elle Cosimano, St. Martin’s Press, and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to Minotaur Books for the eARC.
I think this is my new favorite Finlay Donovan book. Finlay and Vero are back from their police academy in book three and go straight to Atlantic City here where so many things happen. I loved the wildness Cosimano created in this plot with a girls weekend quickly turning into a family trip with all of the characters we've come to love and maybe hate. This was a tight story - taking place over a weekend - yet so full of details, schemes, and hijinks from Finlay and Vero just trying to do what they came to do. There was plenty of humor here. The one scene with Finlay's mom had me cackling. I was also shocked by the ending and the way everything went down. Just when I thought I knew where this book was going, Cosimano surprised me in the best way. I will be reading these books as long as their written, and I can't wait to see what Finlay and Vero do next.
This Finlay Donovan series is so much fun!
I've read all of them, and while the plot line is always a bit farfetched, it's easy to go along with it to keep up with Finn and Vero's various murder-adjacent mishaps.
This latest installment didn't have as much of Vero and Finn's usual witty banter, and I missed that. However, I still really enjoyed their adventure in Atlantic City.
Ideally, these books should be read in order to understand the different relationships that are going on throughout it, but you can also pick one up for an isolated bit of fun!
I think the first book in the series is the best, but I'm glad that the characters have had a chance to live on in more books!
Many thanks to #netgalley for this ARC of #finleydonovanrollsthedice
Is it possible that my adoration for this character may be fading just a little? I loved the first two books and really liked the third, but I was starting to get the same feeling I got when I abandoned the Stephanie Plum books.
Just how many zany, madcap scenarios can Finaly and Vero find themselves in? I do appreciate that the love interest was sorted out early and didn't drag on for 16 books, but I wanted some laugh out loud moments with this installment, and I just didn't get them.
I'm hoping it was just my mood and that the magic will return with the next book. Thank you to NetGalley and Minotaur Books for the early read. This title will publish March 5, 2024.
Four solid stars! Okay, so the 4th in the Finlay Donovan series did not disappoint...
I'm so glad that I found this series (thanks to my favorite place, Bookstagram). It's been one of the funnest series that I've read recently. Each installment ends in a cliffhanger leaving me wanting more. (You know how to keep me roped in, Elle Cosimano.) I binge-listened/read all of the books earlier this year (in time to read the third upon its release.) I was excited to hear that the series is far from over....
The fourth installment picks up where the third ended. Finlay and Vero head on a "girls trip" to Atlantic City, but it's quickly turned into a family affair with Finlay's mother, Steven, and the kids in tow.
As previously, Fin and Vero find themselves in the center of mobster danger... With two dead bodies discovered and their enemies closing -- and Nick hot on the Russian mob's trail -- Fin is flirting with disaster. I've learned to suspend belief and enjoy all of the absurd situations Fin & Vero find themselves in. While this may've been the most absurd adventure so far, I really enjoyed it! (The third wasn't my favorite, and I was afraid the series had lost its spark.)
I only have two complaints: 1. I forgot about a few characters, so I had to do a little refresher. 2. Not enough Nick & Finlay!!
I'm excited to keep reading. I have to believe it's only a matter of time before Nick catches Finlay in her web of lies. I'm anxious for that reveal.
Thanks to Net Galley & Minotaur books for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. The book will be available March 5, 2024.
Another exciting and fun adventure with Finlay!
I might be tired or getting old, but I had a hard time keeping up with this one. As much as the new setting of Atlantic City was thrilling and kept the plot interesting, I think there was just a lot going on and I had a bit of a hard time keeping everything straight. The end definitely cleared some things up for me, but I think as Finlay gets deeper and deeper into multiple criminal situations, they're all getting a bit mixed up for me. I would recommend a reread for anyone going into this one after the first few books, just to give some context.
Y’all this series is amazing and it’s the perfect combination of mystery and humor and tension that you want to read to escape reality.
Nothing about their “girls weekend” goes as planned but that’s to be expected when Finlay and Vero are involved. From unwanted company tagging along to the FCPD and FBI crashing the party to chase down an anonymous tip and more dead bodies showing up to complicate the plan.
I love that this book starts immediately after the ending of the previous book because I needed to know what happened next and this story doesn’t disappoint; it was chaotic and classic Finlay and Vero. We got to see Finlay channel her inner main character and write her story and I loved the direction it went for Finlay and Nick and Vero and Javi and we even got somewhat of a resolution between Finlay and Steven. There’s so much more left to explore in Finlay and Vero’s world that has me so excited for future books.
Thank you @stmartinspress @ellecosimano and @netgalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest feedback
