The latest installment in the Finlay Donovan series continues the winning streak of the previous three books. Following Finlay, Vero, and essentially the rest of Finlay’s family to Atlantic City, I felt as if I had my own seat in the car. I was along for the ride. Of course, the series’ signature humor was on full display, making this a joy to read.
I absolutely love the Finlay Donovan series. As soon as I read the first book, I was sucked in. I got my mom into the series too. I love her being a mystery writer and accidentally hit man?? Lol I was so happy to get an advanced copy of the 4th book in the series and it did not disappoint
What a fun book. Unfortunately I have not read the prequels. This book was amusing and at moments, laugh out loud funny! The cast of characters are entertaining. I can't wait to read books 1-3.
Thank you to NetGalley and Minotaur Books for this eARC in exchange for an honest review!
Let me start off by just saying WOW!! I think this just may be my new favorite book in the series! It was SO fun and easy to read, SO fast paced, and SO hard to put down!
I can't tell if Finlay and Vero have no luck or if they have all the luck but they're sure smart enough to get out of anything! I can tell Cosimano spent a lot of time figuring out the details involved in this book because it was so well told that it felt like I was in the book with the characters! Some of the events that took place did seem a little unrealistic and I lost track of timeline a couple times but I still had so much fun reading!
One of my favorite things about this story was seeing so much more of all the side characters like Finlay's family, Javi, and even Sam. And while Cosimano has said that's it's not necessary, I think reading Vero's short story before reading this book is the best way to go. In reading the short story you see a lot of backstory on Vero and Javi and then when reading this book you have some questions answered.
I'm curious to see where the next book will go and if it will be the conclusion or if Cosimano will keep it going! I'm only a little sad that I was able to read this one so early because now I have to wait even longer for the next!!
I just couldn't get into this one. I am not a "series" reader but I loved the first one so I continued on. Things just start being repetitive with stories like this. I am also not a fan of having to read books in order and these definitely build on each other. I will say these are great cozy mystery books but they just aren't for me.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.
I think this might be my new favorite Katherine Center book! Hello Stranger is the sweetest, swooniest, most heartwarming book and will easily be one of my top reads for 2023.
The whole storyline was fascinating to me, as I’d never known anything about face blindness before. Main character Sadie was so endearing and I was truly sad to say goodbye to her. Her personal growth fought for center stage in this book with the two adorable men she was falling for. Every aspect of this story is gold!
This is an absolute must-read!
Elle Cosimano DOES. IT. AGAIN.
Another absolutely amazing adventure with Finlay and her crew, and man did the WHOLE crew show up!!! Picking up right where we left off in the third installment, Finlay and Vero are on the search to find Javi after getting too deeply mixed in with loan sharks and the mob. Determined to find Vero’s crush and clear their names (as much as they can, anyways) Finlay and Vero head to Atlantic City for what was supposed to be a “girls weekend”. Instead, the entire family comes along and Finlay is left having to balance her ex husband, new boyfriend, two kids, her mom, her sister, and other members of the police force all while the body of a loan shark decomposes in a bathtub in a hotel room.
Goodness, do I love this series so darn much. The banter between Finlay and Vero is next level and absolutely hilarious. I can’t tell you how many times I laughed because of them alone, not to mention all the completely ridiculous situations they get themselves into. How does it seem that everything goes incredibly wrong for them just to go perfectly right so that they get themself out of their mess? I’ll never know but I eat it up. Is it ridiculous and far-fetched? YES. But it WORKS.
There are books you read for the vibes and this is definitely one of them. The Finlay Donovan series is just an all around great time from start to finish. I enjoy every moment I am in these books with these incredible characters (minus Steven, how is he still such a piece of work?!) It had been awhile since I read the previous books but this fourth installment did an incredible job of reminding me of each character when they were reintroduced while still keeping me fully engaged with the story. And that CLIFFHANGER!!! I already cannot wait to read the next one!
4.5 stars! Oh boy what a fun ride. Honest to god I love this series and these character so much. For those out there that thought book 3 didn't have enough Vero and Fin, rest assured book 4 is back to team Vero and Fin. The antics they got up to in this book were hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud. The plat was fast paced and buttoned up things up really well too.
Go into this one with an open mind and just have FUN. I love the escape I feel when reading this series and just go with the flow.
Read if you like:
- Fast paced action
- Funny dialouge
- All the Vero and Fin antics
- Big family / FCPD roadtrip
- Mysterious murders
- Detective Nick
- The perfect cozy mystery
You know that show you skip all social things for because you've "got plans". Before it starts you make sure you've got your popcorn and you settle in with your fluffy blanket, popcorn and wine and just grin because you know the next hour is worth skipping drinks with your work buddies.
That’s the Finlay series. If you’ve read the first three books, stop reading renewed reviews. Go get your wine, popcorn and blanket and cancel your plans. If you haven’t read any of the series yet, you're in for a treat. Stop reading reviews and start reading book 1!
"Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice" by Elle Cosimano is Book #4 in the "Finlay Donovan Series"!
Do you know how hard it is to begin this review without a spoiler from the previous book?
Under the guise of a girls' weekend, Finlay and Vero are headed to Atlantic City when Finlay's mother, ex-husband Stephen, and their two adorable kids insist on tagging along. Finlay and Vera feel like their adventure is beginning with all the odds against them.
Experiencing roadblock after roadblock from family, friends, lovers, and bad guys, Finlay and Vero are doubling down on this crapshoot with every gimmick and wild card they can line up. This isn't Penny ante poker they're playing and the stakes are high for these two female super sleuths to hit the jackpot...
"Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice" picks up right where Book #3 - "Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun" leaves off. It takes a while for the familiar rhythm of this series to kick in but once it does the shenanigans begin and the entertainment delivers full-on.
"Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice" has an almost perfect ending with a segue into the next book that may take a different direction with a reoccurring character who was absent in this book taking center stage in the storyline. I'll be there for Book #5 in the "Finlay Donovan Series" and recommend all previous books to be read in chronological order for the best experience.
3.75⭐rounded up!
Thank you to St. Martin's Press - Minotaur Books for a widget of this ARC through NetGalley. It has been an honor to give my honest and voluntary review.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an e-galley of Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice.
I could not wait to read the next adventure of Finlay and Vera and Elle did not disappoint! I devoured this book in record time - I couldn't put it down.
Finlay and Vera are now trapped between a loan shark and a mob boss. What else could go wrong at this point? After leaving the disaster of the police academy behind, Finlay and Vera are ready to tackle their next problem. Which requires a quick trip to Atlantic City...with the ex, kids, and mother in tow. Thinly disguised as a "girls trip". Finlay has one mission - rescue Javi from the loan shark. And whatever else pops up. Dead bodies, missing dogs, and car chases later...Vera and Finlay hope that they can put everything to bed. Until another body pops up.

This Book #4 in the Finlay Donovan series; this story picks up where "Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun" ended we learned that Javi has been kidnapped. Finlay and her nanny/partner-in-crime Vero are head off to Atlantic City. However, in addition to Finlay and Vero, Finlay's mother, Finlay ex-husband Steven and the kids decide to come along!
Another crazy adventure with Finlay, Nick her ‘hot’ boyfriend, as well as Vern, Javi, and in this case mom.
Truly laugh-out loud entertainment!
I do love how the end is a tease of something that is happening to a neighbor. Okay I am ready to sign-up for the next ‘Adventure of Finlay and friends’!
Thank NetGalley and Saint Martin’s Press ~Minotaur Books for this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for March 5, 2024.
The next chapter in the Finlay Donovan saga. I have loved this series from the very beginning and this book did not disappoint. Finlay, Vero, and the whole crew end up in Atlantic City. Finlay and Vero and trying to save Javi, while the cops are trying to catch Mob boss Feliks.
There is a lot of insanity and several moments I yelled "why are you doing that". But overall the Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice is a lot of fun and a great read.
Finlay Donovan is at it again finding herself in crazy scenarios that place her in harm’s way. Vero, her nanny/babysitter and confidante, partners with Finlay again to rescue an old boyfriend in Las Vegas., only this time Finlay’s entire family is in tow, even her ex-husband, along with Finlay’s handsome cop and love-interest Nick. Cosimano keeps you on the edge of your seat as Finlay and Vero confront hardened criminals and try to hide not one, but two, dead bodies. Finlay’s mother is a hoot and had me laughing out loud. As with the other two books in the series, there are standout scenes that are hysterical and nerve wracking simultaneously. Looking forward to more adventures with Finlay and Vero.
Finlay Donovan is back again for Elle Cosimano’s fourth installment, Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice! It’s all hands on deck as Finlay and super nanny Vero plot to rescue Javier and resolve Vero’s gambling debt and their issues with mobster Feliks Zhirov. What starts as a trip for two (plus two kids) to Atlantic City turns everyone’s favorite characters all crashing their trip. Chaos and secrets ensue again as Finlay tries to keep her worlds from colliding and her cop boyfriend Nick from discovering the truth!
@ellecosimano delivers another solid entry to her Finlay Donovan series! Each book seems to get better and better, but this is definitely a series where you need to read every book in order. I love the chaotic energy of the Finlay-Vero pairing and all the eclectic characters that continue to make appearances. It’s got some laugh out loud hilarious moments, career defining moments, and some much needed adult time for Finlay 😉 This is a great series for fans of Janet Evanovich and Jesse Q. Sutanto, truly great for anyone who likes action comedies with some romance! And as an added bonus, the first two books are available on Kindle Unlimited!
Thank you @netgalley for an ARC of this wonderful book!

thank you for this ARC! I loved to be back in the world of Finlay and Vero. It was absolutely nuts with lots of silly action. I love these characters and their banter. You know it's always going to be a wild ride with them.
3.5 stars
This was by far the best book in the series. Elle Casimano came out swinging and did the damn thing justice. I loved it so much.
suspense, contemporary, cozy-mystery, thriller, mystery, ex-husband, nanny, verbal-humor, situational-humor, friends, friendship, family-dynamics, family-drama, snarky, mystery-writer, dachshunds, mothers, siblings, boyfriend, law-enforcement, threats, amateur-sleuth, relationship-issues, relationships, relatives*****
One vehicle, one Finlay Donovan mystery writer, one Nanny with a warrant out in Maryland, one peculiar mother of Finlay, one unruly ex-husband, and two rowdy children are headed for one casino in Atlantic City to rescue a feckless relative from A. the mob and B. law enforcement. Not riding with them is Finlay's cop boyfriend or the two stiffs they find. But there are a lot of laughs! The whole read gives spiraling out of control new meaning!
I requested and received an EARC from St. Martin's Press/Minotaur Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
When another book in the Finlay series comes out…I have to read it! This is the fourth book in the series and you do have to read the ones before it for it to make sense. Elle Cosimano does a great job of reminding you what happens in past books so you pick up where you left off!
Fans of the Netflix show “Dead to Me” will love this series! Based off a recently divorced writer, Finlay and her nanny, Vero and all the trouble the wind up getting in! This book takes place in Atlantic City with a loan shark after them while keep the mob off their tail! This is mystery comedy and at points had me LAUGHING out loud! These are some of my favorite characters and I love reading about them. Check this out when it comes out in March! 4 out 5✨
I always enjoy the Finlay Donovan series, and I think that this novel brings back the original magic that the first book in the series captured. The second and third books were good, but I really think that this storyline highlights the characters and showcases the humor that made me love the original book in the series. Definitely recommend this for Elle Cosimano fans.
