I’m a Finlay Donovan fan, and this latest book in the Finlay series was delightful. Finlay and Vero bring their A game. Sylvia was a riot; labor focused on Findlay’s book success, oblivious to the real danger going on. Nick was the perfect hot cop devoted to Finlay despite her shenanigans. We should all be so lucky. This book read like a comedy action movie with so many memorable, hilarious scenes; possibly my favorite book of the series.
Thank you #MinotaurBooks and #NetGalley for the ARC e-book!
Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice is the fourth book in a planned series of seven. At this point, spending time with Finlay and Vero feels like hanging out with that one crazy college friend who was always getting into shenanigans and narrowly and miraculously avoiding trouble.
There were some laugh-out-loud moments in this series installment and some much-needed closure for certain storylines.
Looking forward to new shenanigans in the next book!
Fans of the TV show “Dead to Me” would love the Finlay Donovan series. And, fun fact: I just read it’s been optioned for TV, with Marlene King of Pretty Little Liars adapting the books into a screenplay. Yay!
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press/Minotaur Books for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Book 4 in the Finlay Donovan series and Finlay Donovan is still whiplash funny while solving the latest mystery.
These are so crazy and it gets even more ridiculous with each new book!
In this one we focus more on Vero. We didn’t get her full backstory—that will be in her the short story out in November. But we get more information about her and Javi.
We also see more development in Nick and Finlay’s relationship. Nick is such a book boyfriend. He is always looking out for Fin, even when most inconvenient for her 🤣
We have an interesting set up for book #5! When will Finlay catch a break?
5/5 stars!
In the fourth installment of the series, Finlay and Vero pick up where we left them after the police academy. They decide to take a girls weekend to Atlantic City as a cover to their investigations, but end up with Finlay’s mom, kids, and ex-husband along for the ride! They need to rescue Javi and the stolen Aston Martin, while keeping their involvement under wraps from the family and Nick. It may not be the relaxing weekend they hoped for!
The Finlay Donovan series is so much fun. Elle Cosimano packs mystery, romance, suspense, and humor into the perfect escape of a book. I enjoyed the continuing adventures of Finlay and Vero, and based on the cliffhanger conclusion, I am looking forward to book 5! I particularly enjoyed how this book included some returning characters from the first book. If you enjoy laughing throughout the entire book, cheering on a slow burn romance, and misadventures that turn suspenseful and action packed, you’ve got to read this series! I highly recommend starting from the beginning of the series with book 1.
Thank you to Elle Cosimano, Minotaur books, and Netgalley for an arc in exchange for my honest review.
The minute this ARC hit my Kindle, I started reading. These books are a lot of fun and I was happy to meet them tonight in Atlantic City. What I love is that each book builds on the next, but opens up new avenues of mystery. Is some of it farfetched? Yes. Is it somewhat ridiculous? Also yes. But it's an enjoyable ride with Finn and Vero, now featuring more Nick. There's also real heartfelt moments, particularly with her Mom. We all still want to know whats up with Steve which is why I can not wait for the next installment.
Another great book with Finlay and Vero and the clan. It was another wild ride. A great book, a lot (I mean A LOT) of action, sometimes it was hard to keep things straight (so many characters, crimes, crime scenes, crime bosses, dead bodies - to name a few) but it was entertaining and fun. The banter between them all is hilarious and I love the fact that as these books progress, so does Finlay as a mother and a bad ass. You go, girl. We need more spice with Nick...please!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. Cannot wait for the next installment!!
Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice (Book 4) was just as delightful as I’d anticipated, if not more so. This has everything I love in a book that keeps me excited to read. My gosh, I love this series so much. I love Finlay and Vero and their whole relationship. The situations they find themselves in are wild and ridiculous, but so fun to read. I couldn’t put this down but never wanted it to end. The story was wrapping up nicely, but of course, another cliffhanger. I’m SO grateful to have had an ARC of this one, and I already can’t wait for the next one!!
Finlay Donovan does it again!! I think this one is my favorite of the series. Finlay continues to be a badass hot mess of a character and Vero is still a snarky, savvy hotshot. Finlay gets herself into hot water at every turn but somehow manages to find a way out of it.
Every character in this book is thoughtfully created and the storyline just flows. It keeps you entertained and laughing all the while wondering how the heck Finlay is going to get out of this jumble before anyone finds out what really happened.
Nick is still adorable and her ex-husband is still a turd but he does redeem himself on occasion. Loved the addition of Finlay's mom in this book and her narrative.
If you are looking for a fun filled, chaotic, murder-mystery, this book will definitely hit the spot!
Thank you to NetGalley and Elle Cosimano for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A huge thank you to NetGalley and Minotaur Books for the ARC! Finlay Donovan may be my favorite series and book 4 keeps the excitement rolling.
Finlay and Vero are back in the middle of paying off debts and trying to lay low. This time, we’re heading to Atlantic City with the whole family- one big, dysfunctional family. And it gets even better when Finlay’s lover boy brings the police force in tow. Cue the murder, mystery, and hilarity.
These books never disappoint. The banter is always perfect 💯 It’s such a well thought out mystery and it leaves you with a cliffhanger- bring on the next one!
Another wild ride with Finlay and Vero. These books are action movies written into thrilling, yet humorous, books. Any time I think: that’s unrealistic, that would never happen, I remind myself that it happens in movies all the time, only the lead roles are men and they aren’t the primary parent. Because Finaly is a mom first and foremost, I find that I enjoy this chaos. It encapsulates how insane it is to juggle motherhood, a career, personhood, individuality, and a relationship all at once. Finlay has an incredible village surrounding her. I am so excited to read the rest of these forthcoming books.
I have enjoyed all of this series. It definitely has a ton of twists and turns and tension. I feel like everything is going to come crashing down on Finlay and Vero every time and then somehow they make it out. This book in the series did get slow at times and I had a hard time imagining exactly what was going on in their escape from the garage, but overall it was very entertaining as always. I look forward to the next one in the series since Elle Cosimano loves to leave us with a cliffhanger!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this advanced copy.
A fun fourth installment of the Finlay Donovan series. This book picks up immediately after the end of Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun, where Finlay and Vero's time at the citizen's police academy comes to a chaotic end. The pair needs to head north to Atlantic City, where they suspect both Javi and the stolen Aston Martin have gone. Unfortunately, neither can escape without Finlay's erstwhile ex-husband nor her mom. Now she has to dodge questions from Steven, a lot of Catholic guilt from her mom, the crooked retired cop, Charlie, loan sharks, and the Russian mob.
I've really enjoyed the Finaly Donovan series. It has just enough action to keep you interested, but not so much that my anxiety spikes. The romance is certainly there, but not the focus, and it's far less interesting than Finlay and Vero's friendship/partnership anyway. It's built an expansive and interesting world of interlinked characters and criminal worlds that feels original enough to keep the series moving forward.
However, I've really felt like the last two in the series had very slow starts. The first 50% of this book was slow going and felt somewhat repetitive, or perhaps stagnant. Regardless, the second half of the book moves fast, with storylines tying together and Finlay demonstrating some impressive strategic moves. I'm guessing there's more to come from the series (there's at least another short story covering Vero's origin story) because we definitely end the book on a very intriguing note!
Another hit for me!
I've been waiting for another Finlay book and this one hit the spot. This time Finlay is stuck in the car with her ex husband Steven, their kids and Vero as they are headed to Atlantic City to save someone from Vero's past. Gosh, I would never want to be in this car! Too many people who dislike each other! Too much chaos, and they have to focus- eye on the prize.
This book contains plenty of humorous moments, some dead bodies, some fun Steven/Finlay bickers and a lot of funny Vero/Finlay moments. Of course there is a bit of romance as well.
Overall, I enjoyed this book a lot more than the last book. The mystery is definitely stronger as well. For this book to make sense and for you to appreciate the cast of characters in full, you must read this series in order. They are pretty quick reads and also enjoyable to listen to as an audiobook!
I believe there are at least 3-4 more books in the series spread out over the next couple years (1 per year!)
Can't wait to see what Vero and Finlay do next! They have such a beautiful friendship/ second family dynamic and make fun partners in crime.
Thank you so much netgalley for an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review!
Finlay is BACK baby!! And it really feels like we're putting a wrap on the story arc from the last 3 books, but opening up new opportunities for sequels. We gotta save Javi, square away Vero's debt, and (as always) deal with some dead bodies. But of course... Steven and the kiddos are along for the ride this time! It felt cinematic but still made me giggle and swoon throughout. You've got antics, you've got romantic tension, and there's a real mystery! Did I know whodunnit? Obviously. But I felt like it was better than Book 3's mystery.
Give me Finlay 5 and Vero 1 pleeeeease!! (Like if there isn't a #5 after that ending, it would be literally criminal.)
*Thank you to Minotaur Books and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest review*
Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice picks up right where book 3 left off with Finlay and Vero setting off on a "girls getaway" to Atlantic City in pursuit of their illegal hijinks... with Finlay's two small kids, mother, and ex-husband in tow. Their party is soon crashed by Finlay's newly minted beau and his police and FBI entourage, and everything gets that much stickier.
The pacing of this book was fantastic. The reveals, laughs, and plot twists were plentiful and wonderfully placed. I love the way Elle Cosimano blends humor and mom life into this accidental life of crime that Finlay has fallen into. It's escapist fiction at its finest. Is it entirely realistic? No. Do I care? Also, no, I'm too busy enjoying the ride! And from the mild cliffhanger ending, it looks like there may be more Finlay and Vero adventures to enjoy.
Huge thank you to St. Martin's Press via NetGalley for gifting me with an ARC to review! I loved it so, so much!
How many books will I read about a mystery writer and her ex-nanny turned total badass "not murderers"? As many as Elle Cosimano writes ...
If you are thinking of starting this series, just let go of reality and doubts about this actually happening in real life. It's a novel, and it's a little far fetched but super fun.
In book 4, Finlay and Vero are off to find a stolen car and rescue Javi, Vero's childhood friend. The only problem is, everyone else is along for the ride. When Finlay tells her ex she's taking the kids for a girl's trip with Vero in Atlantic City, he refuses to let her go alone. When Finlay's mother hears about a girl's trip, she insists on joining so Nick doesn't get the wrong idea about Stephen, her ex. So the whole gang head to Atlantic City on a getaway.
When they arrive, things go south quickly and Nick and Georgia and a few other cops post up across the hall from them to make sure they are safe after getting an anonymous tip that the mobster Feliks is back in town. Nick is still looking into Ike's disappearance, and knows something is up, but can't figure it out.
When some key players turn up dead, Finlay and Vero are on a race against the clock to find out who killed them before they get blamed for the murders. Chaos ensues.
My favorite book is still the 3rd one but I can't wait for book 5!! I need a synopsis of all the characters since there is such a gap between the books coming out, lol. I had to think about a few of the characters to remember who they were! I also want to know what Finlay's ex is up to!! Tell us already, haha.
Thanks to netgalley for an eARC to review.
I LOVE Finlay and her hot mess self. I live for the mystery and the crazy shenanigans she always seems to get herself into (and out of). This is one of my favorite series!
The thing about this series is that it’s written in such a way that you can see everything happening in your head. Everything from the setting, to the tiny, usually unnoticeable, nonverbal cues of the characters are so wonderfully placed and described that I feel like I’ve watched them rather than read them.
Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice was no different. Set in Atlantic City, rather than Finlay’s home in Northern Virginia like the previous books, you feel like you have a front row seat to the chaos at the casinos and Finlay and Vero’s race against time to save themselves and their friends. You are guaranteed to laugh, get secondhand embarrassment, and cheer for Finlay as she juggles motherhood, dating, and mob busting. The usual.
TLDR: You need some Finlay Donovan in your life. Thank you @ellecosimano for this lovable hot mess of a character, and thank you @stmartinspress @minotaur_books for this ARC.
This may be my favorite Finlay Donovan book yet! It had me laughing and turning the pages until the very end to see what would happen to my beloved characters of Vero, Finlay, Steve, Nick et al. I was worried they books would start feeling repetitive but I haven’t encountered that yet. I also really loved getting to know Finlay’s mom a bit more!
