I read Royal Blood last year and really enjoyed it, so I was so excited to get my hands on Royal Scandal. After all the drama of the first book, you'd think Evan would manage to catch a break, but book two packs just as much of a punch, only bringing more mysteries to the table.

I continue to be delighted with this series. It's like American Royals but with an extra punch. The care that's given to these highly sensitive matters is done with care. I need book three stat.

*Royal Scandal* by Aimee Carter is a fast-paced, intriguing blend of romance and political drama, filled with unexpected twists that keep the reader hooked. Carter's engaging characters and vivid world-building make this a delightful and captivating read for fans of contemporary royal fiction.

I first off want to say, thank you to Aimee Carter and NetGalley for allowing me an advanced copy of this book. I first found out about Aimee Carter when my sister and I went to a book signing for her years ago, right before Pawn, the first book in The Blackcoat Rebellion series came out. Since then I have read all her young adult releases and have loved them all. This book was just as great as the rest in my option, I can't wait to read more from her.

Evangeline "Evan" Bright is an American girl whose father happens to be the King of England. The king has publicly acknowledged the relationship and has brought Evan to England to live with the royal family. This has caused no small amount of scandal and jealousy. Although Evan and the crown princess, Maisie, have come to be on good terms (maybe even friends) there are still many extended family members (and press outlets) who see Evan as either a threat to their own line of succession or to the integrity of the English people.

In the previous volume Evan was set up to take the fall for the death of a British tabloid owner's son but the evidence and truth eventually came out. But this hasn't relieved Evan of becoming a scapegoat for attacks on the Royal Family. Someone is targeting both Evan and King Alexander - and they might just succeed!

After multiple attacks in which a rebel group claims responsibility and claims that Evan is a member of their coalition, a direct attack at their home puts the king on life support and there is talk about preparing for Maisie's ascension to the throne. But because of her age and some changes to the laws of succession, Maisie will need to be advised by a specified group of people. Surprisingly, because of Alexander's careful wording of the plan, Evan is to be among that group. This doesn't sit well with many, given her American heritage and her presumed links to the guerilla group.

I'm having a lot of fun with this series. I'm not an anglophile but my wife and daughter are, to a very small degree, so I've caught on to a bit of the lingo and complicated lineage. Having an American girl suddenly discover she's actual 'royal' is likely a fantasy for many teens (just think about books and films like The Princess Diaries). But as author Aimee Carter suggests in this series, it isn't all a bed of roses.

There are times I rolled my eyes with an "Oh, seriously?" thought - sometimes it was because of the piling-on of problems and sometimes it was with Evan's decision-making, but I'd remind myself who this book is targeted toward and how that reading audience (probably teens) would react.

Evan's relationships with the royal family are enjoyable - I will admit that I missed the strength and volume of interaction with her personal attendant that we had in the first book - and I'm glad that there's not an evident resentment conflict between Evan and Maisie (though I admit I'm not sure we're seeing the true Maisie yet).

There's a clear open door for another volume and I would question whether or not this is a stand-alone book because I don't think there's an ending here. If you should read this, plan or expect that you'll need to commit to the next volume as well.

Looking for a good book? Royal Scandal by Aimee Carter is a fun anglophile fantasy, likely for teens with plenty of mystery and teen angst.

This was a lot of fun. I don’t want to say too much since it’s a sequel, but it was really fun. I mean that in a listening sense because the subject matter itself isn’t. (Check the Content Warnings above) Although I’m a little mad tho because no one said this was a cliff hanger. I was not warned lol

Ok so I liked this one ok, but the first one is still the best. When I finished this last year I was waiting everyday to see if the next one was going to come out and if so when. This one was also good, but it spent so much time in the mystery, but it doesn’t give us any real reward? Like we aren’t clear on who actually did it. And like what’s going on in this, I think we deserve to know who it was. And like, some culprits are outed, but they don’t give the main one and I was annoyed by that. We spent this whole time reading this for the book to end with no closure.

The plot itself kept me rooted to the book tho. I couldn’t move AT ALL. I remember basically whipping my head around to make sure I heard something right. When I tell you this book was full of twists and turns and ups and downs! It was all over the place and I couldn’t stop reading it. I was even upset that I had gotten so busy because I couldn’t sit down and read. I was being so dramatic, so I know it will get you all too.

The same characters from the first one were there, but some have bigger roles. And something traumatic happens to one character in particular which has a domino effect on the rest of them. I don’t want to say anything and risk spoiling it, but let’s just say I hid from my toddler to be able to listen to what happens to him. Because it made everyone spiral, even me.

This story picks up right where the first one left off. But now everything has come to a head… And then it was over. So basically I’m going to be hanging together by a thread waiting until the next one comes out. This last one is going to be interestingggg.

DNF. I’ll probably be in the minority here but I just couldn’t get into this one at all. Maybe it’s because I’m trying to read this in the middle of summer and it takes place during Christmas but it also didn’t feel like it had too much going on either. I really loved the first book and was hoping I would enjoy this one as well but it just wasn’t for me. All thoughts and opinions stated are my own. Oooo, I really like this one. This series has lots of mystery and suspense and a little bit of romance. Evan does seem to attract attention and danger every where she goes. This is definitely a middle book, but the cliffhanger is a worth it. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

A great follow up to Royal Blood. This was so fun and fast paced that I think even reluctant readers will have a hard time putting it down. The cliffhanger ending would have been a disappointment if it wasn't so spectacular.

Royal Scandal picks up shortly after the events in Royal Blood and it is just as thrilling and dramatic as its predecessor. More thriller than mystery, this second installment follows Evangeline as she and her family are repeatedly threatened and attacked by someone (or multiple someones) who know more about the inner-workings (and vulnerabilities) of the palace than they should.

Mixed into the dangers of gunshots, bombs, anarchy, and attempted murders are subplots surrounding relationship dramas and familial conflicts. Not only does Evan have to figure out who is behind these deadly attacks, she also has to make sure her relationships don’t implode as a result of them.

I was a huge fan of Royal Blood when I read it for its previous tour, so I went into this sequel with high expectations. While I wasn’t as much of a fan of this installment, I still found it a fun and thrilling ride. There are many different mysteries for the reader to try and solve, and a decent amount of curveballs thrown in to keep us our toes. Evan is a main character that is extremely loyal and kind at her core, making her the perfect protagonist for a series whose conflicts mostly revolve around betrayal and selfishness.

My main complaint about this novel was that there were times where I felt the drama was turned up a bit too high, resulting in me getting fed up with certain characters/plotlines before they were wrapped up. Regardless, the book clearly leaves the reader with the understanding that there will be another installment, and I’m excited to see what’s next for Evan and her gang.

After reading this book, I need the next one because Evan’s journey just keeps getting crazier and I’m ready to see the take down of Ben once and for all. I absolutely love the relationship that Evan and Kit share and I think it is so adorable and refreshing and I love how he is always ready to stand by Evan no matter what. I feel like each scandal that is presented is always so juicy and I can’t wait to see how deep mystery will go in the next book!

I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next one to come out! The second book in the Royal Blood series, Royal Scandal finds Evan in the palace continuously fighting for her life as someone is trying to kill her, while also destroying the monarchy. This book was really soapy, dramatic and fun! I’m so excited for book 3!

So here I am sitting listening to this book, playing with the cat, not paying attention to the page count and bam the mother of all cliffhangers.
Maisie and Evan have had more ups and downs than I can keep track of and honestly at this point I don't know who we can trust and who's out to kill or dethrone who and honestly I'm loving every bit of it.

There's so much I want to say about this one but I don't want to give anything away for anyone that hasn't read it, so I'll just say read book one (Royal Blood) then read this one and then let's talk.

Lastly, while I am still hoping for a very specific twist (please tell me I'm not alone) I find myself so drawn into this story that I can't wait to see what happens next.

Just as good as Royal Blood; the first book of the series!

18yo Evan is in the United Kingdom with her family, royal and not royal. She’s recovering from the assault by Jasper and has great support from her boyfriend Kit and her family. Evan is starting to feel more at ease with her royal surroundings until a shooter misses her and hits Kit as he protects her. Evan receives secret anonymous threats and she starts to hear voices that are threatening her also. Her mother has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and she’s worried she’s hallucinating since no one else sees or hears the threats. Each day the threats and danger build until Evan is terrified she will lose her life and the people she loves.

Likes/dislikes: I love Evan and Kit and their relationship. The royal premise adds heightened intrigue to the mystery. This second book of the series is just as good as the first.

HOLY CLIFFHANGER!!! I need book three yesterday! Lots of juicy drama, royal scandals, and exciting plots.

Royal Scandal takes the readers on a wild ride picking up right where Royal Blood left off. Readers enter the lives of royals who often find themselves having to combat...scandal. While parts of this book were difficult to get through (because it was a little slow), I was able to stay invested in the storyline. While I definitely do not connect with all of the characters, as an adult, I connected enough to keep reading and turning the pages...waiting to find out how the story will end.

I recommend this book to those who love reading about "royals"/monarchy, gossip/scandal, and coming of age. I look forward to the next book in the series!

While the plot and structure of the story has improved since the first book, unfortunately the characters have not. The glaring issue here is still that Even is totally unlikeable and does nothing to redeem herself.

Royal Blood was a fantastic series opener, introducing the characters, setting up the basic problems and basically letting us learn about the altered world of the novel. This second novel deepens the issues and makes things exponentially worse for everyone, but mostly Evan.
Be warned, this one does end in a cliffhanger! The first one didn't, there were threads still but not a full cliffie, but this one definitely does. I was watching the page count dwindle in terror, hoping against hope...but it's a great place to stop and I'm really looking forward to the third volume.

But this one! Funny, exciting, terrifying. I was really sorry for Evan at one point, I won't mention it for spoilers but you'll know it. It's a really great read. I do recommend reading the first one first, though, don't start with this one!

I can't wait for the third. This is turning into one of my favourite series.
