Thanks to Netgalley and Zeitgeist for access to this Arc in exchange for my honest review.
If you are fascinated by Greek mythology like me, this book is for you. I always forget the names and stories but I've always loved Greek (and Roman) mythology. This book targets kids, with simple language, short stories for each Greek god/goddess/character. However, I think even adults curious about mythology will love it.
I loved this. Great writing. With wonderful pictures. I have read a lot of Greek mythology and this is one of my favorites
My daughter loved this. Great writing. With wonderful pictures. She has read a lot of Greek mythology and said this one was one of her favorite.
As a child, I was addicted to the mythological stories told by Roger Lancelyn Green. Bear in mind that I grew up in a time when we didn't have the Internet - and the number of English books available on such esoteric topics was distinctly few in my own country, Bangladesh, at that point. Now though, most books or topics are available in translated versions.
Still, my book-loving parents assisted me in developing voracious reading habits in my Spartan (only in terms of access to English language material, mind you) childhood. And my father, who shared my interest in mythology, encouraged me to explore faraway legends in addition to those closer to home. Despite reading widely, my favourite remained the Greek myths, so I could not resist downloading this book when I saw it on Netgalley.
And what a volume it is! There is so much to enjoy, including the beautiful illustrations and the information sets and questions that are provided to give you an opportunity to delve further into some of the stories you find particularly interesting.
The book is a fantastic introduction for youngsters to begin learning about these stories in a child-friendly way, and to birth in them a love of mythology that will take them far, far further in their own explorations in the years ahead.
This is the book I didn't even know that I needed! Thank you, on my own behalf, and also on behalf of all the children who are going to read, learn from, and enjoy the contents of this wonderful volume.
Ultimate Greek Mythology For All
Aargh, I had to rewrite this review! When I discovered this book, I was enthralled and excited about reading it. I enjoyed reading the book and all the amazing Greek myths. This book is for all ages. That being said, it is detailed vividly and reads fluidly. I devoured this book, which will read over and over and use as a reference. It is an encyclopedia of a book with vast information. Well written, it keeps the reader's attention, and I didn’t want to put it down. The illustrations were great also. Kudos to the author and illustrators. I highly recommend this book and be enlightened to the mythical world.
Thank you for allowing me to read the advanced readers copy of this book. This was such an interesting and unique way to teach children all about greek mythology! I really enjoyed reading this, and can't wait to read it to my nieces who I'm sure will also enjoy it!
This is a great intro to some Greek Mythology stories. While all the stories aren't necessarily finished, the author provides enough information for the themes and bulk of the stories to be understood by children. The stories are accompanied by beautiful, colorful illustrations, "Did you know" facts, and questions at the end of each.
Thanks to NetGalley and Zeitgeist, Z Kids for the eARC!
Loved loved this! It has been a long time since I haven't seen a book on greek mythology this well done, it is easy enough for kids to read while at the same time having a lot of content for them to learn and discover more. I love how engaging and interactive the book is!
This title is a welcome addition to compilations of Greek myths for children. They are invited in to the stories and addressed as curious readers. Kids are quickly informed that myths originated in part to try to explain something (for example bad weather). They are assured that these exciting tales are stories and not real (there are no multi headed monsters for example). They are then encouraged to jump in.
This title is well organized. Part One is about “Essential Greek Mythology” and includes many characters, creatures and worlds. The other chapters have titles like Beginnings, Relationships (Echo and Narcissus for example), Bravery (one story is about Theseus and the Minotaur), Pride and Envy (King Midas is among the tales), and Glory and Loss (The Trojan Horse for one). In addition, there are both a glossary and reference section at the end of the book.
Throughout there are colorful illustrations and stories told in a modern way. Each tale includes boxes; one might ask “did you know?” while another may have some questions. These serve to further engage the reader.
This title provides a good introduction to the Greek myths. Interested readers may then graduate to other collections as they get a bid older and more sophisticated in what they understand.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Zeitgeist/Z Kids for this title. All opinions are my own.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the free book in exchange for a review.
I have loved reading Greek Mythology books since I was in elementary school I've always loved reading the different versions and interpretations of the myths and this book was no exception this is a great book for kids to read about mythology and the illustrations are beautiful but I do wish they were more of them.
Embark on a journey to the magical world of Greek mythology in this ultimate book of fascinating myths and fun facts for kids ages 6 to 9!
Well-written and very informative.
I am a huge fan of Mythology and I found “Ultimate Greek Mythology” to be an education and entertaining read for children and adults. Fun facts, vibrant illustrations, and easy to follow. For those looking for an overview of all things Greek Mythology, here is a great place to start!
Thank you to both NetGalley, Zeitgeist, and ZKids for providing me the opportunity to review "Ultimate Greek Mythology” prior to publication . I am appreciative and leave my review voluntarily.
A beautifully illustrated book perfect for young fans of Greek mythology.
The gods and heroes and their myths are being told in a truly entertaining way. It’s easy to understand and to follow along, no matter if you already have some knowledge of the topic or not.
Disclaimer: The ARC was provided to me by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The ARC category in no way impacts the rating of the book. All of my reviews contain my honest opinions.
Even though this book is being marketed as a "children's book", I found it to be very engaging and informative. I must admit to an ulterior motive in my requesting it as an ARC. That being, having not studied mythology since high school, I found myself at a loss in the category during my wife's and my nightly Jeopardy "battle". (And at local trivia nights). No more! This easy to read, well illustrated, and fun book touches just enough on each subject to allow me to triumph in the Jeopardy category now! Huzzzah!
But seriously, this would be a great little read for anyone trying to brush up on their knowledge. And enjoy themselves in the process!
This was really fabulous. The information and stories backed up by the illustrations in the book are brilliant. I am 100 percent going to buy this book for my friends children's birthdays if they are at the right age for it!
"Ultimate Greek Mythology" is, overall, a good book for young readers. It presents the stories and figures of Greek mythology in a simple & straightforward manner. But some things could be improved.
The pros:
1. Colorful illustrations.
2. Boxes containing fun facts and interesting tidbits of information.
3. Glossary included so the bold terms could be easily defined.
The cons:
1. The text seems geared for readers older than the 6-9 age group.
2. The question boxes - I found them unnecessary, especially if the goal is just informative entertainment.
3. Poor formatting in the first section: the way the god/goddess name is listed, and separated from the information about the individual makes it a little confusing to understand.
My kids are 1000% into the Percy Jackson universe and have read tons of books on Greek Mythology. This one was something fun and new we could enjoy together. The pictures are great, though the beauty is somewhat lost on an ereader. I look forward to reading this again as an actual book. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of "Ultimate Greek Mythology" by L.J. Tracosas. I am a Greek mythology junkie, and I could not get enough of this book! I know it is aimed at kids, and I did share it with my kids, but I loved the layout and informative it was and thought it was also perfect for any age reader. I would love a hard copy of this book in my library.
My daughter is absolutely obsessed with the Little Goddess Girls books and wanted to know more so when I saw this as a “read now” I knew I had to try it. This is a fantastic breakdown of the Greeks and perfect for anyone, young and old alike. I’ll definitely be getting a copy for my daughter and myself to use as a reference book when reading any Greek mythology!
This was a really well put together book about Greek myths. It broke down each section very well. I really enjoyed all the questions throughout the book that encouraged more in depth study. And the pictures were so cute. I just loved them they really made the story better. Definitely a must read for kids.
